Visiting Springfield and stopped in to this little spot for some Korean eats. There is a parking lot with plenty of slots right in front. The inside was dimly lit with tables as you walk in and to the back. There is also an outside seating area. We ordered at the register and our food was brought out to us. The menu is easy to understand, but the staff was able to answer all of our questions and explain different menu items in detail. Everyone was nice and welcoming. I got the Hotstone Bibimbap (suggested by the lady who took my order because it continues to cook when served, making the rice crispy and vegetables hot. I chose white rice topped with bulgogi and spicy shrimp. For sauce, I chose Sesame and Kochi to a little add extra kick. I had the kimchi put to the side. It also came with a miso soup . This whole combination was so delicious. Stayed hot the entire time and was plenty enough to share. The Yaki Soba, which is a noodle dish, was also very flavorful, came out fresh and hot. The Japchae was equally delicious and full of flavor. The sweet potato noodle of this dish was different, but still pretty tastey. I recommend leaving this for the experienced eaters. Lastly, we tried the kimbap. It was a typical kimbap, nothing stood out. Everything came out fresh, cooked to order, and hot. The price for everything was very reasonable. Not bad but $16.73 (including 18% tip) is a bit much. The main gripe I have is the Teri chicken, 1st chicken breast is too dry, gotta cook it perfect or use thighs. 2 either marinate it overnight or cook it in heavily condensed sauce, feels like you're throwing on watery sauce on dried unseasoned chicken. 3 your sauce is too liquidy , you need to make it thicker, corn starch or potato starch should do the trick you can even use flower. The bulgogi was decent tho, and salad was cool, best of luck! read more

I found exactly what I was looking for at Koriya. I am visiting Springfield and was looking for specifically, tofu, fresh vegetables and tofu. I want expecting to be able to get them in one dish but the bimibap nailed EXACTLY what I was craving. The owner was so sweet and patient and guided me through the menu to find my perfect meal. The bimibap was $13.95, $1.75 for brown rice and $1.75 for tofu. I tried mine with lemon soy which NAILED it. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food at this Korean place in Springfield, MO, en route from Madison down to Austin, TX. I did not know they would even have Korean food in that town, but it was nice to try this place out while we were there. The menu options are pretty extensive, and I was able to try the short rib, the dolsot bibimbap and the kimbap. All of the dishes were pretty good, but not the best Korean food I've had. That being said, I wish the prices were a little more reasonable considering the cost of living in the area. The price of the food was about the same as what I paid in Seattle for Korean food, and there are dozens of options there. Generally was an ok experience and service was nice, food was good but I think mostly because I was very hungry. $12.95 for a bottle of soju that you can get at H Mart for $4.99.. come on man read more

What a great local spot! Food is always super fresh, staff is friendly and the atmosphere is casual. The hot stone bibimbap with chicken and kochi sauce is my go to choice - just so flavorful and filling. For two bibimbap dishes, we spent $27, but I think it's worth that price for the quality ingredients you receive. I did not have the highest expectations when coming here as I have been otherwise unimpressed with Asian cuisine in the Midwest, but was pleasantly surprised with Koriya. The bibimbap tastes like what my mom made for me growing up. Granted, bibimbap is not a complex dish, but the ingredients are what transport me back to my family dinner table - bracken, bean sprouts, and boiled spinach, to name the highlights. My biggest qualm is the price- I would never pay $15 for this in my pre-Midwest life. However, I understand why it has to be this way considering how shocked I was to see the variety of roots and vegetables. I got the traditional with bulgogi and a fried egg, and got the kochi sauce. So I've been here a few times and the food isn't bad. Pales in comparison to other Korean food I've had, but thankful it's here, I just hate the way they have their ordering set up. When you order a Bibimbap protein doesn't come standard, it must be added. I know they do this to make it look like it's cheaper than it is, (ends up being almost $20 with meat) but last night I ordered it online and forgot to add a protein. The Bipimbap was really lacking without any meat. The rice was gummy and the whole thing was really sloppy, it really grossed me out. I ate part of it and threw the rest out. I hate to do this because I understand these folks are just trying to make a living and I assume the owners are also Korean like myself... But I'm genuinely appalled by the quality of the food here. I realize that this might be acceptable standard for somewhere like Missouri, and I may be speaking too much from a Los Angeles perspective, but this was simply just shocking from a basic "Korean food" definition. This was not an unlucky isolated experience. Why? Because the insanity starts with the menu itself: A $14.50 bibimbap that doesn't come with a fried egg + meat by default... is wild. I just saw another review who was disappointed when her order arrived with no fried egg and didn't realize that it was a $1.50 add-on (Emily C., you are indeed correct that this dish usually comes with an egg. This is NOT normal and should NOT be normal. This is NOT indicative of a normal Korean restaurant. You were incredibly nice to give a 4/5 star rating). And then there's another $1.50 for the meat topping? Again, this is just insane. This is not normal. This is Missouri-normal, apparently (thank god I'm only here for 1 night). Bibimbap includes the meat by default, period. I've literally had better bibimbap on a plane. I ordered the Hotstone Bibimbap version. It was not "hotstone" bibimbap (you can look up the distinction). It was barely even bibimbap. I mean it technically was, but not at ~$17. It also did not come with the sauce I had to add-on. Wait, I forgot to mention that in the previous paragraph because I thought the egg + meat costing extra was already too much and forgot there was even more. THE ESSENTIAL SAUCE(s) IS "required" AND COSTS $0.50 EACH??? Look, if you managed to read this far, you already know the pattern here. Bibimbap INCLUDES THE SAUCES. It's just gochujang and sesame oil for god's sake, not some fancy gourmet white truffle marinara sauce. Nobody expects ketchup to cost extra when ordering fries. Same thing here. I'm sorry if this all sounds too critical to those of you who aren't familiar with Korean food, but it really needs to be said if this restaurant represents it. This has nothing to do with post-pandemic food inflation. Gochujang is just Korea's ketchup. Increase the bibimbap price to $20 if you have to (insanity), but please don't make Korea's ketchup and general purpose sesame oil that's incorporated in so much Asian cuisine an extra "$0.50/each add-on" thing. That's some clueless-white-people-getting-scammed shit. My sister got the Spicy Pork Bulgogi Lunch Box. I'm too lazy to type up another essay about that but just know that she suffered through barely half of it before hopelessly resorting to a protein bar. To all non-Koreans: this is not what Korean food is actually like. To all Koreans who actually did enjoy the food here, you desperately need to venture outside of this state. I beg you. I always get the hot stone bibimbap. It is usually pretty good, but honestly it takes so long to cool off before you can eat it that you're probably better off getting it without the hot stone. My mom tried the spicy peanut chicken lunch box and it was good although reminiscent of chicken dishes you'd find at any Chinese buffet in the area. The counter is confusing, and the people taking your order aren't always helpful. They're not unfriendly, but they don't really know what to say if you ask for suggestions, and they just kind of look at you. I think this place would highly benefit from good table service instead of the counter. Overall though, I do enjoy their food and it does feel healthy! read more
