AMAZING. My fiancé and I order takeout every other weekend for Korma Sutra and I start getting excited about it Monday morning! The owner is hilarious. The food is outstanding! We get the Chicken korma, cheese naan, and rice pudding. All are superb and full of flavor. We always get a few free goodies in our takeout bag, like a mango lassi and some sweet cinnamon balls. The place is usually SUPER busy on Friday nights, so it takes a bit to receive your carry out. The staff brings out lots of free samples for those waiting, like fried vegetable balls and a cup of hot chai tea for everyone. We've only dined in once on a very hot, busy summer evening. It was pretty hot in the restaurant and service was slow since it was so busy. I hear the lunch buffet is great, though. All in all, a wonderful and charming little restaurant with outstanding food, and some pretty hilarious staff. read more

I am by no means a fan of Indian Food, but this place is rather unique. First the Pros: The staff is extremely friendly and takes good care of their customers need. The food had a good taste without it being overwhelmed with excessive amounts of spices like other Indian restaurants I've visited in the past. The price was also reasonable considering I only paid $12.00 for the Buffet. They had a delightful drink called the "Mango Lassi" that tasted like a sweet Mango Yogurt beverage, I don't have a sweet tooth, but I did enjoy it nonetheless. The Cons: Place is small and a bit cramped, felt a little bit claustrophobic. The two Gentleman wearing neckties gave off a rather tense atmosphere, it felt like something was always in a constant rush so it was difficult to feel comfortable with them looking so tense maneuvering through the tight spaces of each table. The picture placed beneath the glass of the table put me off my appetite a little. One would assume there would be nice designs of patterns from the Indian culture, but they have drawings of woman instead. Now it's not to say they weren't good drawings, but I prefer to eat my meal without having a drawing of an Indian woman silently judging my food intake(I eat a lot). Overall it's not a bad place for Indian Food, the only quells I have would be the whole atmosphere of the place which may have made me felt a little uncomfortable. Delicious selection of foods on the lunch buffet, comes with a free basket of naan, glass of mango lassi, and chai. The only thing I don't like about this place is that it is small and that can get a bit crowded at times. The fact that it is busy is an indicator that it is good, and that's a very good thing. My son who lives here in KC took to me to this place not expecting anything, however , as soon as we walked in , I heard a man yelling & asking us to sit . He sounded so enthusiastic & made us feel at home. My son said he's like this all the time. He came to our table quite a few times bringing in food & drinks that he wanted us to try . He always emphasized that we have to be full & happy. I felt like eating at Grandmas house . The lady whom I assumed was his wife was extra nice also. Our drinks got refilled all the time , brought Naan bread constantly & wrap all our left overs plus extra cups of Chai w/c my wife loves . I have visited twice now and am hooked on Korma Sutra. Aside from the delicious food (the naan and anything with chicken on it are to die for), the service is wonderful. It had a very personal and informal feel, but that only improved the experience. The servers are constantly coming by to offer more food or drinks and give free lassi or extra naan. In fact, we were hardly permitted to leave before trying 4 or 5 other things ranging from fruit to Chai to some sort of frozen cream. Picked up some Lamb vindaloo for a carry-out lunch today. I had tried to call the night before, and couldn't get through. The owner said it was just because he was tied up taking orders, and to keep trying. He was very accommodating. I Have loved Indian food since I had a customer from India who used to cook for me, and I fell in love with Indian home cooking, and learned to cook some Indian styles for myself, but like to eat out occasionally so I can have somebody else do the cooking, and taste something different. So far, most of the restaurants I've tried, with their gravy-based dishes, have been disappointing (same old stuff!). The vindaloo at Korma Sutra was different from the dishes I cook, as I would expect, but it was also very good, and had its own character, which is what I was looking for. I ordered "hot", but it wasn't too hot for Johnson county tastes. I'll know better what to order next time. I will come back, and bring friends when things open up again. In the meantime, will sample the menu some more when the urge strikes. read more

We have visited this place after 2 years because of last bad experience, and here we go again.. we asked for itemized bill and he did not like it and made scene as he did manipulate the bill. This is it, not going there again. People think he give free food but that's not true, he does manipulate amounts in the bill. Wow wow wow wow WOW! This place is an explosion of flavors. Their service is also an explosion of personalities! You can tell the staff hustles hard all the while enjoys thoroughly what they do. Seems like a family operation but if not they certainly give off that feel. The combination of flavors, richness and bustling energy makes me want to go to India! This is my favorite indian restaurant. It's well worth your money to stop by during buffet hours, especially if you're addicted to Mango Lassi like I am and can't get enough to drink! It's very vegetarian friendly, and the staff in Overland Park is quite attentive. If you're the type of people who prefer to be mostly left alone while you eat dinner, you're better off at the Westport location. The OP location has staff who will constantly come around to talk to you and give you treats. I was weirded out at first, but I've gotten used to it over time. Annoying kid!! -The food was great, the quality is slowly slipping down. I expect tasty indian food for the price. I am an Indian and I know what quality Indian food is. -They have an annoying, rude, kid who they let to serve customers. My wife and I have eaten here many times since we moved to overland park. I'd say about once a week for the past 6 months. I called tonight to order dinner for 5, and was hung up on 3 times. When I finally got to place my order, the person I spoke with refused to read it back to me, simply said "OK" in the phone and hung up. After about 3 more calls back, and getting hung up on with a simple "OK" each time, I gave up. I will never come back to your restaurant, and will ensure none of my family, friends or co-workers experience the frustration I did tonight. You just lost a good deal of repeat business. Small and welcoming shop that has the BEST Indian food I have had in all of Leawood. It has a very reasonable price range for all the food you get. We ate during the buffet that had all different kinds of curry ranging from vegetarian to all sorts of chicken and some goa. While food was good. Service nice. My table was overcharged. The staff kept asking if we wanted mango drinks which we replied no. I'm diabetic so I avoid unknown sugary products if I can. Two min later the drinks came. Along with offer for pudding. Again no thank you for same reason as above. Two min later pudding is placed on the table. Another offer for chai tea. No thank you. Bam chai tea sat in front of us. We ate none of the extra food. When bill came it was a mess. Asked to split between the $80 bill between the three of us. The man at front did but my $13 veggie dinner and water I ordered rang up at $19. No itemized receipt to discuss with employee. Who was on the phone while figuring out bill. I have a feeling I was charged for all the extra food and drink brought to the table without asking or wanting it Will not be back. :( read more

Love this place! My wife and I like going during the lunch hour when they are doing the buffett and we enjoy it every time. The food is always good and the staff is nice and are always tossing more food at you than whats on the buffett. We kind of laugh though because they remind us of our grandmothers making sure there is no way your walking away being hungry. I really didn't want to give this place one star, but have no choice. It's certainly not for the food; the food was fantastic. It all started with waiting twenty minutes for someone to take our order. Then when the manager came over to take our order it was very rushed. I also ordered my dish medium and it came out extra hot. I was willing to overlook the two issues; but not the third. At the end of the meal, the manager wanted us to try some "sweet nann". He said it was sweet and made with brown sugar. Well, it wasn't. It was made with cayenne pepper. The taste was terrible. Haha, very funny. It wasn't like we were regulars. Just another Indian restaurant. I am from India and so my general expectations of spicy mean more spices, not HOT/Heat. We ordered Chicken biryani, Veg special Korma and garlic Naan and said hot of the options for hotness (low, medium & hot). Biryani was too dry and there was no side/raita, Korma would probably been good if it was medium. Naan was very good. Now our mouths and lips are burning as the heat was probably from Habanero pepper or chilli or something similar but not additional mixture of spices! FYI... unfortunately this happens pretty much most Indian restaurants. read more

I took my girlfriend to this restaurant. To start with Ambience=1/10, Customer service =2/10, courtesy=2/10 . As soon as you get in you see a table to your left and a guy taking orders on phone.. And his Phone won't stop ringing, we sat next to his table and his phone rang loud 7 times and he won't answer(very obnoxious). He involves himself in an uncalled for conversations with customers with his fake English accent trying to be funny. And on the other hand the lady who brought food(seem fresh off the boat) was unwelcoming and she won't respond to hello, thank you and again a thank you. In the end the food was average at the best. This was thoroughly one of the most enjoyable meals I've had in ages. This five star review is as much about the food, which was great, as it was the atmosphere. The owner clearly is passionate about this business and his customers. When we first walked in, even whilst waiting for a table, we were given pakoras and chai tea. The food took a while after ordering, but were were given additional things to munch on while we waited. I ordered the Korma Sutra Korma which was wonderful, though with all the munchies before, I barely had any room left. My husband had the lamb curry which was also very nice. I want to comment specifically on the owner's attitude toward my 2 year old son dining with us. When we ordered our meals, I asked if they had anything for children. The owner says, "Don't worry, I'll take care of him.". Sure enough, he did. He brought my son a bowl of the rice pudding and then a plate of tandoor chicken and fried paneer. Later some fresh fruit and some sort of ice cream. All free. When we were leaving, he asked if my son had ever eaten there before. When we said no, he took a dollar bill out of the register, wrote "Welcome to Korma Sutra", signed and dated it, and gave it to my son along with a hug and a high five. I know kids can be difficult at restaurants, but it is clear this place appreciates families. I've been going to this restaurant for years and have very much enjoyed the food from both the menu and buffet. During my last visit over the lunch hour I was coming back from the buffet to the table. As I started to sit, I noticed a nice big cockroach on my table cloth...climbing to the top of the table. Honestly, I should have let it do it's thing so everyone could see it. Disgusting! They need to close that location for a week or a month and clean it from top to bottom!!
