The best indian food in the area, hands down! My family and I go here for the lunch buffet and we always leave with full bellies and massive smiles. The food is just wonderful, no words could do it justice. My personal favorite is the mutter paneer; perfect combination of spicy and rich. I also love the desserts; I always gets multiples on the rice pudding. Along with the great food, I have to give a shout-out to the people who work there, especially the owner. He goes out of his way to talk to each guest and make sure they are having a great time. They get busy during the lunch time but it's worth the wait if you ask me. read more

The food and quality of service are amazing!!! They try and get you a seat as soon as possible, with many of their staff not missing a beat to make sure things run smoothly. You really feel like they personally care for each customer. :) Then the food....outstanding!!!! Never disappointed. I am a vegetarian while my fiancé is not so Indian cuisine is our go-to a lot. We have tried quite a few places but this place just feels like "home" now since we ONLY come to Korma Sutra for our Indian food fix (and only this location, have not tried downtown). The owner (or manager?) that is always there greets you so lively and walks around the bustling restaurant with ease and only to make sure everyone is fine and showers you with little treats and snacks as he(and other staff help) passes you by. I LOVE KORMA SUTRA!!! A friend originally took me out to eat there a few years ago and have been addicted ever since. Their service is very friendly, and attentive in giving you unlimited refills of both your beverage and Mango Lassi (a smoothie type drink). The best part though is the food. It is AMAZING and they have a large selection of both vegetarian and meat dishes. The food is very flavorful and is not overpowering hot (spicy) like many Indian restaurants I have eaten at. I am an Indian food junkie. The first thing I do when visiting a city is scout out the Indian restaurants. KS - Overland Park is the best in the KC area. The owner puts extra care into purchasing and preparing the food, which comes out in the flavor. The chai tea is a slice of heaven. Mango lassi is beloved by many Indians, as it can cool down 'heat' from food, and, it helps your tummy digest food. However, don't get the impression the food is too spicy here. The food is fine, not great, although admittedly I wasn't there for the lunch buffet that everyone on here seems to enjoy, nor did I order the butter chicken that appears to be getting high marks. Sometimes though the product becomes less significant when experiencing the kind of dishonesty that ended our evening with pure discouragement in humanity. If you are into someone attempting trickery to bait you into accepting food that you did not want, or being lied to about the practices of other establishments, by all means, give this place a look. Came here for the first time today. Never had Indian food before. I am a total convert now! The food was amazing, especially the chicken tikka masala, and the garlic naan. I really loved the complimentary mango lassi and yogurt ice cream. Service was amazing, and the manager was so very courteous! Free things came to the table all the time, it was so much fun. We visited this place on my parent's anniversary, and it was AMAZING. The service was EXCELLENT, and the servers managed to make my 5 yro sister, who was pissed that we weren't eating at McDonald's smile. Every need was catered to, and the appetizers were delicious. We order butter chicken, chicken tikka, and seekh kabobs, all spicy and all delicious. The garlic naan was excellent and the leftovers kept well. The owner ( I think he's the owner ) is incredibly gregarious and always remembers me. He is always trying to stuff me with extras like the tea or the mango ice cream or more of that delicious bread. They're crazy busy during lunch, but it's because their lunch buffet is REALLY GOOD. I just moved to the city and was looking for some good indian food to fulfill my craving. I did a simple search and this place was the closest to where I was at the time. I decided to check it out. In the back of a shopping center, you find this little pop of color in a sea of office spaces. Korma Sutra. You walk in and immediately smell the most delicious smell- home cooked, authentic Indian food. I just wanted a take out order and I'm assuming the owner, greeted me with literal open arms. I ordered a lot of food - the menu selection is quite extensive. He said it would be a wait and sat me at a table near the hostess station. He gave me hot chai tea and a spicy naan dip to "keep me happy". I loved the whole experience even if I didn't dine in. I will definitely be coming back. We decided to order order out tonight, but Chinese food wasn't in the cards. So, we've been wanting to try Korma Sutra for some time and decided that this was our chance. Ordering over the phone was very pleasant and efficient. We ordered Chicken Bhoona Sutra (medium), Butter Chicken, Chicken Korma and Chicken Tikka Masala. We also ordered Papadam & Naan. We were told our order would be ready by 7:00 pm. We arrived a bit early and the host served us complimentary Chai tea while we waited for our food to be packed. When we got it all home, everything was hot and delicious. The complimentary relishes were fantastic. The Butter Chicken was a standout, although everything was uniquely as flavorful. The staff went above and beyond to make sure that we had a good experience. The curry was delicious and the naan was the perfect combination of fluffy and crispy. Was a bit disappointed in this place. Drove from downtown KC out to OP to check this place out because it had great reviews. Let me start off by saying that the owner and wait staff are awesome though. Constantly around refilling your naan, mango lassi, and this yummy hot tea that I liked. They are super attentive and are always around to bring you samples of random things like ice cream. Even chased me and my friend down as we were leaving to give us naan and the hot tea to go because he saw how much we liked it! Which was so sweet! The food though is just okay. Chicken tikka masala was decent, as was the korma sutra special chicken, and a veggie dish I always forget the name of! Basmati rice was too dry and undercooked though compared to other indian buffet restaurants I've been to. I did like the garlic naan! Fluffy and super carby, just how i like it! Korma Sutra is a bit too far for me to make the drive out just to eat here, but if I'm in the area, I would consider stopping by since their service was so great! read more

Great for groups, lots of seating. The lunch buffet is huge, at least half of it is vegetarian, and always delicious. The "extras" that come with the lunch buffet (mango lassi, hot bread straight to your table instead of dried-out under buffet lights, ice cream) are a nice touch and make it more of an experience than just a lunch. read more

WORST PLACE EVER. I don't know about the food because we didn't taste any. We decided to try this place based on reviews. Our two teens went with us. The boys were finishing their game on the phone before getting the food. Meanwhile we went to get ours. We could see the owner standing near our table with a inflated balloon tucked on his right ear and saying something to the boys. I thought he must be asking about the drinks or something. When we came back to our table our older son said that he is not eating here. We were confused and I asked why since he was so excited to try the place. Apparently, the owner came to them and told them that they cannot use their phones and they have to put them down immediately. He said he will not leave the table until they do so. We called the owner and asked if they have No Phone policy and if it is stated somewhere in the restaurant or the website. He said No, it is not stated anywhere but he doesn't want them to use the phone. We asked if it is for everyone and he said No, adults can use their phones but I don't want these kids using theirs! So, there is no policy or anything it's just on his whim. We said sorry, then we cannot eat here and we left. The owner had NO business talking to ours kids like that in our absence! i wasn't sure if the attention and extras that we received during our dinner were a benefit of coming in on a cold and snowy night, but i know after reading reviews that it's the standard. the food here is great. probably the better of indian restaurants in town, and i'm in the process of visiting (almost) all. yes, there are some quirks, but they make it more endearing in my world. i think something that puts a restaurant on a level of 5 stars is when you ask your server for a suggestion and they totally insist on something - that you end up absolutely loving upon receiving your order. happens every time at korma sutra. bonus for receiving balloons (i was eating with a friend, and no children but we both got one), learning that chai tea is caffeine free and seeing how much free stuff we received compared to any other indian restaurant in town. I just love this place and really need to visit more! It's just a happy place! You will be greeted with a smile and the happiness will continue.. just go with it. :) They will keep you laughing if you're open to it, while keeping your table and plate full of yummy food. Try not to fill up before your actual order arrives because the meal is also oh so good! I try to order something new every visit and I have never had anything I didn't love. The naan.. holy smokes is it good!! I go for the garlic but there are many options and everything comes in great quantity. You will NOT go hungry here! My only recommendation would be that if you enjoy spicy food, go for "hot". They will probably recommend that you go "medium" but that just isn't spicy enough for me. We've always loved the food and atmosphere but this time there was super inappropriate content on their TVs that I spent most of my time trying to keep my 4 and 6 year old from watching. Some of it was amazing choreographed Indian dancing...most of it was not. The kids loved the meal, the energy of the owner, and the silly birthday celebrations, but I'm not comfortable taking them back if the erotic music videos are still playing. Staff was great, the food was okay... not bad but there are better choices in the area. I think the busy kind of over the top atmosphere really swayed my review. Don't take this wrong... everyone was very nice but it was loud, it felt like a tight fit, and we were offered many foods to try that we were not interested in. This place used to be good. I went there with my 2 daughters 6 and 11 for the lunch buffet. Warning to ALL parents, they do not have a child's price for the lunch buffet. It cost $39.00 for the three of us to eat there. I will never be back. It has been a while since they have received a best of award, and it was reflected in the food. Not only will I not go there with my kids, I will not go there without them based on principle alone. There is no way the small amount of bread and rice my kids ate is worth $13.00. RIDICULOUS! They have officially lost my business forever. I will no longer recommend them as my favorite Indian restaurant in KC. It really is a shame because I like to introduce my kids to different kinds of food, even when I know it challenges their tastebuds. This place is not family friendly at all. I and my family have been going to this place for years and have always enjoyed our meal. Tonight, something was definitely very off. Everything was cold, it took 10 minutes to get rice with our meal, the food was all VERY hot with spices even though we ordered mild, the food seemed left over and rewarmed. The vegetable dish I ordered was dry and mushy as well as so hot with spices I was unable to eat it. I don't know if I want to risk going back. The place has definitely gone down hill. I went for the buffet lunch with a friend. I never go to Indian buffets, simply because I am vegan and the dishes I like are never the ones put out. This one, however, has made me do a 180!! I have never felt more spoiled! I would call this the Worst Indian restaurant in Kansas City. To back up my opinion, i would let you know that i frequent Swagat, Chai shai, chili n spice and ruchi's regularly. So its established as i like americanized-indian food. But today, after trying Korma- sutra i was shook. My first experience was so bad, i might probably never go back there again. After having the meal, i was waiting on the table waiting for servers for a long time (yes, they do show off by serving beverages in a buffet). After almost what felt like forever, I got up and started self serving chai to me and friends (what A normal person at a buffet would do). The owner of the place was super rude and shouts "This is not for self-service. Don't take it yourself." We stood shocked as he was being mean, after paying almost 15$ for a buffet. He added "and we do not want to go down on customer service" soon as he realized people around were watching and noticing his rude behavior. I doubt if he even understands what customer service even means. I am never going to this place again. If you are thinking of a sweet calm or even romantic (haha never here) evening, save your time and money. Stay off of this property, cuz no one know who can scold you for not parking your car straight !! - in shield of being a good samaritan !! Hence my 1 star. cuz i couldn't get lower. Located in a strip mall, this place had an excellent lunch buffet with saag paneer and vegetable korma as standout entrees and the gulab jamun was the softest, warmest, sweetest fried doughnut ever -- not a rubbery mess. The butter chicken was dry from sitting on the buffet too long. Buffet comes with a mango lassi, but for those cool days in Kansas, opt for the hot chai tea - straight from India and full of frothy cinnamon goodness.
