I used to love Kossar's. They still have some of the best bagels on the UES. So why 2 stars? Delivery and customer service there has gotten really rough. I placed an order at 9:52 AM and by 11:52 AM it still hadn't arrived. Most places around here turn around a simple breakfast sandwich order in under 20/30 minutes. I tried calling to check on the order and was put on hold for 10 minutes with no one ever coming back. At that point, I canceled and ordered from H&H. Long waits mean cold and nasty food. If you want it the way it's supposed to be, just walk in, pick it up, or go somewhere else. read more

So I order a Bakers Dozen. This allows an extra 2 Bagels. I then order an Ice Coffee, I then decided to have the bagel there with butter as opposed to giving me a plate and some butter I am made to order another bagel with butter. I pay for the bagel separately I then decide to have some jelly on the bagel, they then try to charge me for the jelly separately. I said never mind. I am born and raised in NYC but I do not think I will ever come to Kossar's too many other places that will not squeeze you for every nickel you have. Total BS. read more

It's hard to describe Kossar's bialys other than saying, they're absolutely perfect. I went with my dad this morning to pick some up from their York Ave location, and it was a clean, quiet little spot on the corner of the street. It wasn't too crowded, so we were helped right away and got our bialys quickly. I believe it was my first time having Kossar's, and it definitely didn't disappoint! It has a slight bite, and is soft and fluffy on the inside, yet solid as well. This is a must-try! read more

Kossar's has never disappointed me that I can remember! I've been here with my daughter and my Yelp Friend Jasmine. I come at the right time to get a seat. The service is fast and the counter employees are smiling and professional. The bagels are so good and they have my favorite Pumpernickel Everything. This is just a local breakfast store I just stepped foot in one morning when I was kind of sick. I needed comfort food and this was just the breakfast store available where I was standing. Walking into the store made me realize the time I used to live in Lower East Side back in the days when I was a toddler. I saw all the black and white pictures and they made me reminisced. Anyways, the kitchen looks pretty nice and hip allowing customers to see how they bake and do their work in the kitchen. So many glass doors and windows in the kitchen. There are many styles of bagels like garlic everything, whole wheat everything, and egg everything. Many types of cream cheese too. What caught my eye was the fact that they got turkey bacon, which is not fatty at all compared to regular bacon. Wish the prices were a lot lower for the hot breakfast sandwiches. For some reason, the coffee is on the lower end of the pricing scale compared to the hot breakfast sandwiches. Hopefully they have some specials to make it enticing and attract customers. The shopping paper bags are very elegant as they are labeled and branded with the Kossar name. They are reusable until broken. read more

Great tasting bialys are very hard to find and given the abundance of bagel shops, it woukd appear that baking bialys has fallen out of fashion. And that's why i was thrilled that Kossar's opened up a new location on York Avenue and 75th Street! While I live further west, since we were visiting friends who specifically asked us to bring bialys, I took my assignment seriously and loved the selection of onion, Gsrlic and everything bialys! There's no such thing as a " plain bialy" since there was a time when you could only buy them with onions! The good news is that Kossar's bialys are DELICIOUS! Kossar's is famous for its bialys, so apparently their bialys are top notch, even better than their bagels imo. ＊Onion Bialys Bialy is a flat roll with a hole in the center spread with onion. It has a soft bread like texture. Compared to bagels, bialys are less dense and less filling. If you don't wanna unhinge your jaw for a bagel, bialys will be a good alternative. At 8am on a Monday morning there was no line which made our visit quick. They are very efficient with taking orders and payment! The gluten free bagels are pretty good for gf bagels according to my friend. They have gluten free bagels available in plain and everything. They also have 2-3 vegan tofu spreads. Every time I go in here it's something else. It used to be very good. When I went last time the woman at the cashier was on Instagram looking at reels when I was trying to pay and looked frustrated when I asked if I could pay. Finally, it's open!!! I've been waiting for the Lower East Side staple to open, and it was worth the wait! On the corner of 75th and York, the lines are long, but if you wait until 10:30 - 11 you can get in and even get a table. Classic NY deli with great bagels, fresh cream cheese, sandwiches and salads. Bagels are hand made and oh so good Salmon Cream cheese was one of the better ones and the coffee was fresh and hot. Prices are excellent and IMO very reasonable. Craving "a taste of home" while recovering from an injury, a friend sent me a dozen bailys and lox cream cheese. Immediately upon receiving, I toasted a carmelized onion baily, topped it with the schmear, and devoured it on the spot! You can't find bialys in Portland, OR, so I was in carb Heaven! The gift box was ordered through Goldbelly. Remember when only the uber rich & famous could have their favorite treats from around the country shipped to them? Well, now everyone can partake. Yes, it's expensive, but not out of reach. And it's totally worth it to brighten someone's day, said the person on the receiving end! Haha. Seriously, the Baileys were fresh and delicious. There were four varieties, each packaged in 3s. Other than the three I kept to eat over the weekend, I wrapped the remainder individually in plastic wrap and put in the freezer to enjoy as the craving hits. I thought the garlic one had too much garlic on it. -chicken cutlet sandwich - this sandwich was amazing and my husband still talks about it. -everything bagel with lox and cream cheese - I really enjoyed the bagel, but the lox was a little too fishy/salty. I definitely recommend trying Bagel ($1.75) 3.93oz - The bagel is more expensive than your neighborhood spots and it was not good--sort of dry in the middle, rough exterior and lacked flavor. Wowowow!! New bagel store in the UES that expanded from LES I believe. I tried the whole wheat bagel with tofu vegetable cream cheese and it was AMAZING!! The bagel was so fresh and perfectly soft & chewy, while maintaining a slight crunch on the exterior crust. You can bite right through the bagel without any "toughness". May be the best bagel I've had, or definitely up there!! If you're going to have a bagel, this is the spot. I want another one already. The tofu cream cheese was pretty standard. They had 3 different type of tofu cream cheese options- plain, scallion and vegetable. Of course this was in addition to other "regular" dairy cream cheeses such as plain, sun dried tomato, and walnut raisin. In terms of bagels, it is like most bagel shops where they are all up on the wall behind the counter and have a variety of the typical types- plain, everything, whole wheat everything, blueberry, egg etc. The store also has bialys and many baked goods such as babka, rugelach and cookies. Everything looks delicious! Tried their hot brew coffee (basically drip coffee) with oat milk and it was great coffee (I'm pretty picky with drip coffee). Washes down the bagel perfectly! They have regular milk, as well as almond milk and oat milk. LOVE the non dairy options!! Came on Saturday morning ~11am, and it was already pretty busy. The line was to the edge of the door. It probably took ~15min or so to move through the whole line? The workers were working as fast as they could! Service was quick & efficient. By the time I left the line was out the door. So definitely a busy & popular spot, so expect to wait a bit. The store itself is nice, brightly lit and has a good amount of seating. Given how crowded it was, did not get a seat. Maybe a few outdoor tables would be nice for the outside area! Overall, this new bagel & coffee spot is a WELCOME addition to the neighborhood! Can't wait to return. Not even kidding, a group of friends and I did a blind tasting where we gathered an everything bagel from 12 different UWS shops. The results were unanimous, Kossar's came out on top! The bagel has a nice crunchy crust and slightly softer interior. It has a nice amount of salt and everything seasoning on both sides. The bagels and cream cheese are great, as well as the lox sandwich. We weren't a huge fan of the bialys, but it may be an acquired taste. Fantastic new addition to the neighborhood! read more

I grabbed myself an onion bialys with lox and a latte to go. The spread is generous and the latte is decent, though on the pricier end. It's a good grab and go spot or a quick dine in. It's just ok, I wouldn't say these are the best bialy's in the city I have had. Good bialy's are hard to find anymore but they are acceptable here. Each time I have been here it's packed and the lines move slowly. Plus, on weekends it's the annoying baby carriage brigade along with parents and their screaming out of control spawn. The line outside should tell you everything. A new challenger for the "Best Bagel on the UES" crown has emerged. Kossar's bagels are fresh, flavorful, and come in every variety you could expect, alongside a good assortment of generously applied toppings. The store itself is bright, clean, and buzzing with customers. And though the line can be long (especially after 9AM on weekend mornings), it moves consistently. Though new to the neighborhood, Kossar's is an NYC institution. (The LES location opened in 1936, predating both the Lincoln Tunnel and LaGuardia Airport and responsible for infinitely more happiness). And that's cool! But I don't come here for the history, I come here for breakfast. Specifically the flat everything bagel with scallion cream cheese, which puts the 'nom' in phenomenal. Great little neighborhood spot if you'd like a spot to sit down and enjoy a bagel. There are a few outdoor spots and lots of indoor seating. The bagels themselves are a bit fluffy for my personal preference, but the flavor is there. The coffee is very good (La Colombe, I believe). I would highly recommend. I have been dreaming of my plain bagel with veggie cream cheese and cucumbers since my last bite. The banana muffin was great and had some notes of citrus which I really enjoyed. The lattes were great and kept us warm as the day was cold. All employees were kind and worked fast to get everything done quickly and presentable!
