However, I was greeted very cordially and brought back to Tanya, who had a station in the back. Tanya was nice, no frills, and did my simple manicure professionally and quickly. Employees could care less about the waiting room of paying customers, so I left. I was never spoke to, greeted or acknowledged. Just that alone, I wouldn't give them my business or time. First I want to say that this is probably my 4th visit here for a haircut & blowout and they are…read moreusually pretty good, at least 4 stars but this visit was bad My bangs were cut so so short and badly that it looks like I did it myself and messed it up completely. I specifically asked for my bangs to be below my eyebrows and she made a rookie mistake of cutting it at my eyebrows when wet. Anyone with bangs know that once dry, it gets a bit shorter. plus she didn't cut it evenly or symmetrically. In the attached pictures, one is a picture of the bangs I showed the stylist (of the bangs I wanted), the one that looks very short is the bangs I left with right after (she styled it with a round brush and dryer), and the third one is the next day after I washed my hair and combed it down- you can see it's not even straight or symmetrical.. thankfully this will grow out in about 3-4 weeks but it's devastating with the holiday season, Christmas is in a few days and New Years next week with lots celebrations and my hair will look like I cut and messed up my own bangs. the rest of my hair was decently cut - though when looking at it, it's hard for the eyes not to go to the bangs that were so obviously messed up. I would have been understanding if they told me they gave me a junior or student stylist and I wish she would have just told me she isn't comfortable cutting bangs as it would have been better if she just left it alone.

Rodney became my hairstylist when I was around the age of 17. I'll never forget my friend dragging…read moreme in to meet him. He felt that Rodney was so laid back and cool. In less than five minutes of conversation, it's easy to understand why. Rodney is comfortable speaking to just about anyone. I have watched him with his clients over the years. What impresses me is that it seems he styles males as much as females. Of every age. I don't see many male stylists who are able to do that. This goes for the Chicago salons I have visited over the years. Rodney may or may not agree, but he has always reminded me of James Dean. When I walked into the salon at 17, he had a tight-white t-shirt on, and jeans. Just like the icon himself. Rodney seems to like music and culture from that era as well. In contrast, Rodney has longer blond hair which echos more of the '80s. I've always found that amusing. Rodney is the best. Just sit down in his chair and let him tell you all about the El Camino he's restoring. I can't wait until he finishes this car. The look of satisfaction on his face will be epic! If you ask, he'll show you photos on his cell phone. Rodney is an unsung hero of hair. Twenty-seven years later, I found Rodney in the same salon where I left off back in the early 2000's. I had just moved back from California, and reconnecting with Rodney was just what the doctor ordered. He knows pretty much everything about me, and I had a California story for him which captured almost everyone's concerns in the salon. It was my first haircut and color since I got home, and it felt Cathartic. Also, I have never felt so supported by people I didn't know. Just when I was thinking humans were poisonous, everyone here in this moment reminded me that some people are still good. You could tell by the looks on their faces. Even if they were just curious. lol That's okay. I get that way too. I now live in Chicago, and drive completely out of my way to get my hair done. My old stomping grounds. It takes a good chunk out of my day, but it's totally worth it. Chicago salons have never treated me well. I might find a decent stylist, but my hair ends up dried out, and it breaks off, leaving my hair looking frizzy. All from the color that they use. When Rodney colors my hair, it feels the same as it did when I started my day. There's probably a simple answer, but what it translates to is a world of difference! The Optometrist I work with has learned a little bit about Rodney after each of my visits. She notices the color right away and knows I went to see him. It's to the point where curiosity has gotten the better of her because of how I describe him as a person. She already knows he has talent from looking at my hair. However, it's because of the nice things I've had to share about the kind of person he is, which made her say, "I have to go meet Rodney." I really hope she does.
