A lot, I'll explain. I NEVER walk into a hair salon expecting miracles. I am a ballerina but I am horrible at styling and cutting my own hair, when such styling and maintenance is needed. Jona, the stylist and owner I believe, worked near- miracles on my hair. I left a lot to her discretion (as another reviewer wrote, I am not very decisive on my hair), and she did not disappoint. She explained what she was doing and demonstrated knowledge of her art; friendly and kind while focusing on her work. Ok- the hydrogen, helium and neon? They are all what are called 'noble gases' on the periodic table; like people, have pros and cons on their 'traits.' But my hair AFTER Jona dealt her magic and these noble gases: hydrogen is the lightest of the gases, and my hair felt fresh and light, not weighed down and dull; helium-- don't inhale it!-- but it is used in balloons; my hair had this floatability to it. Neon-- my hair felt effervescent and 'shiny,' but NOT in an artificial way. I felt wonderful. Those aficionados of 1980s music may remember 'Don't Get Me Wrong,' the Pretenders, 1986. . . 'I see neon lights/ whenever you walk by.' While in that case the neon lights are referring to another person-- I felt like a movie star . . .at least as long as Jona's haircut and style Lasted. :) Never mind that my own lack of skills with tresses meant that I could not maintain the look forever-- Jona did a great job. The salon is well-kept and organized; bright and well-lit but not gaudy. In very good taste. She is wonderful. Prices reasonable; certainly no more than elsewhere. The first time I came in and showed her a few pictures of the look I was going for and she delivered in spades. You know it's a good haircut when you are already getting compliments before you walk out! Every time I come in everyone is very friendly, the location is convenient and the facility is clean and organized. I spent 3 hours here just for a pedicure and manicure. I never judge a book by its cover I decided to give this place an opportunity despite the fact that they only had a small selection of dip powder. I understand completely the shop recently opened up. But do not display products if you do NOT have it at your location: That is false advertisement. I fell victim to the owner who was very polite however had no idea what she was doing with my nails she should just specialize in hair care instead of nails. Firstly; usually when I get a pedicure it consists of a massage,& a foot callus remover. She scrubbed my feet for less than 30 seconds, I still have callus on my feet. Second: The manicure was the most dreadful. I asked for a dip manicure coffin shape, and had picked out a green which I realized after didn't look like the display, so we switched over to white. She gave me egg shaped lemon soup nails and was extremely rough to my skin to the point my cuticles themselves were breaking off( I wish she put that energy into the callus off my feet) she even pointed it out that my skin was breaking from her roughness!!! When I asked her to just do 2 layers of dip powder because I didn't want them to appear thick she kept insisting to put on 3, and blamed the layer of powder as a result in why she couldn't shape my nails to coffin but rather an egg. It felt more like a surgical procedure than a relaxing spa. I hope this business thrives and the owner gets more clientele so she can gain more experience in nails.

She also kept checking in throughout the manicure to make sure it was going the way I hoped (shape, length, thickness, color). All of the tools are clean and she kept sanitizing the tools and my skin before any contact, which is unfortunately hard to see these days at other salons. The manicure did start to lift near the cuticles around the 3-week mark (usually I easily go over 4 weeks without lifting at my other salon). Parking can look a little tricky but there is some street parking right in front of the spa. Still, I would come back to see her because it's nice to finally find a nail tech who isn't in a huge rush!

The rating is based on the rudeness of the staff when I called the next day to report that I had been overcharged. There was a discrepancy between their verbal quote when I made the appointment, based on the length and thickness of my hair, which is what the stylist herself actually charged for the cut, versus what they ended up charging me. Seems like they padded the stylist's price by $10. Pam was rude on the phone when I called to report the error and asked for a refund. She continually talked over me and refused to listen. I asked her politely to take a moment and listen, and she said she didn't have time. "We can't be on the phone discussing this back and forth" she said. Most places would own their mistake in favor of retaining a new client. Metamorphosis clearly doesn't care. This is a personal services organization with low emotional intelligence. I cut my hair elsewhere (shoutout to Vivian at Bloouts down the street who gives the BEST cuts), but find it easiest with timing to get blowouts here following my colors. Unfortunately, I've had trouble finding a good stylist for blowouts. I went to Kate for many years, but once showed up for family pictures with my daughter. She took a look at my daughter's curls and said she had no time in her busy schedule (at the very time of our appointment), which I thought was really wrong to do an hour before photos. My daughter rocked her beautiful curls for photos, but it left a bad taste in my mouth so 2 years ago I moved on to Ji for my own blowouts. During my most recent hair appt I was running a few minutes late and they expedited my glaze so that I wouldn't be too late for Ji. I went downstairs to find her and she was busy with a client so I sat there for 10 minutes waiting for her. Once she finished her client she rudely turned to me and she was out of time and would have to see me another time. After I complained they found me someone else, but the stylists really need to learn to stick to their schedules and work with the front desk if they need more time. I may continue to go here because I like Marissa, but if so it looks like I'm on the hunt once again for another stylist after color. I would love to walk down the streets to BloOuts, but difficult to time it right and walking in winter with wet hair isn't so fun.
