I've been meaning to try this place for a while last time I drove by it it was closed. I think it was one of their usual days that they're closed. Kostas used to be a wonderful place to eat with generations portions. Since their renovation the quality and portions of food have gone downhill, however the price has increased exponentially. I came here for takeout today and got the Spanakopita Platter. I added a side of Taziki and my total was $19!!!! When i got home the salad portion barely covered the bottom of the to go container. Mind you this is basic iceberg lettuce 2 olives and some cheese. Very disappointed in the amount of money I just spent for this lackluster "platter" that doesn't even come with a side of taziki for the dry as hell spinach pie. Went for lunch again the first day they were open post their vacation and huge disappointment in the sanitation department. One would think that owners/management would take advantage of the break and completely decrease and sanitize or hire a janitorial service to do so. The servers, bussers, and counter staff are such hard workers and incredibly hospitable and instead of solely trying to do their jobs with a lunch crowd and the internet down , they were tasked with trying to sanitize as they helped customers and honestly , it's been neglected for so long there's no amount of double duty that would make a dent (you could see it on the napkin holders , greasy handprints on mirrors, two inches of dust on the chachkis on the wall,and don't get me started on practically being stuck in place with the floors.... Just deplorable. In light of the nature of their health code violations in the recent past, one would think they'd make this a priority. Fast food does not equal good food. This is my third visit to kostas First two times the food was just ok. This trip I ordered their shrimp basket. Sign said,10 to 12 shrimp. Actually got 8 Young lady at register said they were light batter and medium sized. They were shrimp the size of a small ground worm covered with over fried batter. Managed to get down 4 or 5 then gave up. The cold slaw might as well have given me a piece of raw cabbage leaf. Tasteless. Fries from a bag. 15.00 for a a dollar meal. Quick counter service. They have excellent Greek food but also offer a wide variety of other foods including American cuisine and Italian dishes. The chicken gyro is my all time favorite. Save room for dessert and plan to share them, they are huge. read more

Came for lunch based on 4 star average. Very disappointed in the food. Ordered 1 chicken gyro and 1 lamb gyro with sides of lemon chicken soup and fries. They basically botched the preparation of the food service (cafeteria) products. I thought it would be some tasty greek food but it was not and I will not return here. Ate here often before the pandemic and it was wonderful. Usually had to wait for a table. Was told it was awful after the change to "Express" but decided to try it anyway. Red flag that we shouldn't have ignored, only 2 cars in the parking lot. Ordered our usual Gyro and they are awful now. Couldn't eat even half of it. We found this place out of desperation for food that was vegetarian/pescatrain friendly and traveling for many hours on a highway. We couldn't be more pleased! Awesome little gem of place. Easy access off and back on the highway which was great. Reasonably priced, super delicious and had something for everyone on the menu. Mainly Greek food but they do have fish n chips and I think I saw burgers but I'm sure. Over all, super delicious and fresh which is a welcome change from the normal fast food stops when your traveling. Would absolutely stop here again when were in the area. read more

By the time i got to Kostas, i was desperate for a good meal. The lack of restaurants in the Cherokee/Sylva/Bryson City areas is sad. Fast food or bad food. Few in the middle . This restaurant was large and loved by its patrons, the regulars. Its menu reminded me of a Greek diner in NY. Everyone was friendly and we were seated quickly. My companion and I both ordered the Greek salad and spinach pie. The pie was made in house. The salad was good but there were limited olives and absolutely no anchovies (but that I really expect them?) I would come back Next time I'm in the area. read more

One of my favorite places to eat. The food is good. The folks are nice service not to bad.

There were five of us for lunch at Kostas. We picked it because there were tables open outside of the restaurant. Most meals were left half eaten. None were horrible, but none were better than OK. I had a gyro and a Greek salad. It was expensive $17.00. For what you could getter for $9 in Winston-Salem, Raleigh, Durham or Charlotte. The gyro meat tasted like slivered hot dogs not lamb/beef gyro meat. The service was very quick and the dining area was very clean. read more

After a long day if skiing, we stayed at a hotel in Sylva,NC. After some quick research, we decided to have dinner at Kosta's Family Restaurant. It was exactly what we needed. 2 hungry men, 2 teenage girls and 2 elementary school aged girls fell in love with this place. The wait staff were great. Very friendly and experts. We are still traveling and came across the same town we enjoyed 10 days ago. We decided to try Kostas and was extremely disappointed. The food has no flavor and ours was sitting under the heat lamps until we reminded them we were still waiting for our food. The Bourbon Chicken & vegs taste like a frozen ready meal. So disappointing. My husband has the chop steak and it was over cooked plus the mash potatoes were ice cold. Not sure what was the "lemon chicken" but it doesn't taste anything like that. read more

I ordered a chicken breast with a Greek salad platter and my friend ordered a Gyro sandwich. Sadly, I suspect that neither my chicken nor his Gyro was no where near Greece. The chicken breast was overcooked and very tough. The salad on bothof our plates was swimming in tasteless dressing I suspect that the cheese was not Greek either. The two olives were not Greek either. In short, very disappointing experience. Would not eat there again. I mentioned all this to the owner with no responsr from him. read more

We arrived in Dillsboro around 8:30 pm and made it to Kosta's 30 minutes before they closed. The menu is huge, with lots of Greek items, salads, sandwiches, steaks. We ordered the flaming cheese which was fun to watch and it was delicious. My son and I both had the pastichio, which came with a choice of soup or salad, and a side of green beans cooked with bacon. The pastichio was as good as I've ever had - delicious. The green beans were also very good. My husband got the grilled liver and onions (because I never make that) and he enjoyed it. The French silk pie and baklava were very good. There aren't many restaurants in this area, but Kosta's would be worth a drive. read more

Stopped by based on the good reviews of this place. We arrived around 5:30 and walked in and we were immediately seated. Coleman came by took our drink order within the first minute of being seated. Took his recommendation for the appetizer and got the onions petals and they were pretty good good. I took another of his recommendations and ordered the gyro platter and I'm glad I did. One of the best gyros I've had. The tzatziki sauce wasn't the best I've had but it was pretty good. My girlfriend ordered the chicken Alfredo fettuccine and the plate came out big enough to feed three people. She really enjoyed it and so did I as I stole some from her monstrous plate. Overall it's a 5 star for me. We normally can't find any places good to eat while we are up here but not anymore. We will definitely be coming back again! read more

I'm attracted to Greek-owned restaurants - in large part because the Greeks know how to run a restaurant - or diner - or whatever food outlet it may be. Started up with Saganaki and Calamari - both quite good. Surprisingly, I opted for the Gyro platter. it was good, but nothing spectacular. I yearn for the authentic rotisserie gyros with alternating lamb/beef - but alas, this place doesn't have those shavings. Son had burger, which he liked. Daughter had a non-descript chicken cesar. I was just going down the highway and the restaurant and surroundings caught my eye on the east side of the highway, so U turn was made. It was mid day Sunday. The restaurant was full. Yet I was seated right away, waitress came right away, service was excellent everywhere. They got it down to a science, everyone is moving fast and you never wait for anything, yet the service is friendly and efficient. Its nice to see a restaurant run so well. When given the opportunity for something different I always order it. The Pastitsio, a Greek version of lasagna looked like the something different so I ordered it. It came with a choice of soup or salad, plus yeast rolls seem to come with everything. The yeast rolls were hot ,light and wonderful. From the uniform look of the bottom it looked like they were not made there, yet they were so fresh and wonderful. I asked. They get them from elsewhere, but finish them off in their in house ovens. Something like a brown and serve I guess but these were tasty without that brown and serve type of industrial taste. They also used REAL butter in those little plastic tubs on the table. Most places use that spread stuff that can sit out forever it seems as its made with all sorts of unnatural things. Not here. The Pastitsio was ok. No regrets for ordering it but next time will try something else. It had a light fluffy sauce on top that was slightly browned. My guess ricotta and egg whites but there are different ways to make it. The salad was a side greek salad with feta and also good. The older couple next to me both had the pot roast special and it looked good, piled high with gravy. They both scarfed every bit of it down in no time. Across from me they ordered Gyros which looked good and served with a bunch of fries. Both tables seemed quite pleased with the food I could tell. The owner, I presume he was, made the rounds talking to many folks. It seems to be a very well run restaurant and should you stop I would expect you would be pleased. read more

Great option for Greek food in the small town of Dillsboro. After a long day hiking the Smoky Mountains we were in need of a tasty light lunch. Being a small town our options were limited but Kostas more than fulfilled our expectations and appetites. Having a large group of 9, we kept it simple and ordered 4 Gyro platters to share, the platters were great and very generously sized. The platter included fries, a Greek salad and pita; we opted to skip the fries and in doing so I believe we were given slightly larger salads. The dressing was great, as was the hummus we ordered on the side and the delicious Tzatziki sauce. We took our food to go and enjoyed it at our cabin with the great mountain backdrop. One of your best bets in Dillsboro and for $10 per platter it's very reasonably priced. read more

In one word, this place was yummy. My wife and I were in town for me to finish some things up at WCU, and wanted to try some local places to eat. Imagine our surprise at seeing a Greek place, and we were delighted at how wonderful everything was. We came in near closing, and most places make you feel guilty, but everyone was welcoming and were accommodating of our request to eat outside.
