Food was good. The Long Island Salad appetizer turned out to be a riceless roll. Once I got used to the fact that it was not the salad I was expecting, it was delicious! Per another Yelper's recommendation, I tried the Spicy Boy roll. Lovely. Our chief complaint was that the heat was not working, so it was definitely chilly to dine in. Not great. Sushi tasted old and the rice very salty. Spicy tuna roll looked like the tuna came from a flavored tuna packet. Everything was warm and as if it was left overs from lunch and sat out all afternoon . I've had decent sushi here in the past but tonight was not good. Came in on a weekday and it was fairly busy. At first glance, tbh,, I almost left after being seated. I had the feeling service would be slow. However, once the waitress came, she was pleasant and did mention they were busy. Despite being busy, dishes came out fairly fast. I had the ocean roll that was the special for the night. It hard calamari in it. All rolls are prepared superbly! The gyoza was delicious as well. My hubby loved his hibachi meal of steak. The steak melted in your mouth. Excellent sushi a nice atmosphere. The crazy boy roll was one of my favorites. All the rolls were great, and some were huge. Service was fast. We were the only group there at an off time, but our server was very attentive. They do have a few extremely large hibachi tables. The only reason it wasn't a 5 star I would have done 4 1/2 was the crab Rangoons had hardly any filling, and the Mai Tai's had a funny taste. The rolls also came out one after another on separate plates, so we had to keep consolidating to try and make room. I have no problem waiting a few more minutes, so they all come out together. Overall, some of the best rolls I've had in an out of the way place, and we've eaten all over the country and Caribbean. read more

A solid place to get hibachi or sushi. When you first arrive, this restaurant can look at little iffy, once you get inside the decor is nice enough. It is a small restaurant, but some of their tables are in rooms that appear semi private, and a definite Japanese aesthetic to them. We went for lunch on a Saturday, it was not busy and there appeared to only be two people working. The service was not slow, but we did have to specifically ask for a couple of things I would have thought to be automatic (soy sauce dish to hold soy sauce for the sushi, the sauces that normally get served with your hibachi). Due to not actually getting hibachi from the grill but rather from the kitchen, you could taste the propane used on the wok in the dish. The sushi was fresh and tasty, no issues there, though there did seem to be a love of spicy mayo even when the description didn't say it would be there, so if that's not for you, you'd have up likely ask for no spicy. The only other detriment was that the hibachi came with clear soup, not miso, and that tasted like some beef broth with a few slices of mushroom floating in it. Bottom line: while not a five- star restaurant, you'll be able to get good food at a decent price. read more

The service could use some work as the orders were brought into the general area and shouted out so you had to claim your plate which is pretty off putting. The ambiance is typical Japanese steakhouse style, a bit dark but appears clean. The food was decent but the sushi was great! Will definitely be returning for more sushi. read more

The spicy Santa is definitely my favorite sushi roll. The hibachi meals could be better but definitely the best in the area. The rice wasn't very good but the steak and shrimp were cooked perfectly. Environment doesn't feel super clean but good Japanese food is so limited in the area that I consider Kouzoku a win and I will be returning. It seems family run so wait staff are young and don't necessarily have the customer service skills one would expect in a restaurant but I do love that I'm supporting a small business when I eat there. read more

This is a sushi nightmare! I was super hungry and craved for sushi, but couldn't finish this small box of sushi. All sushi were lukewarm and not fresh. All of them had weird smell. Tuna has slight discoloration at the edge, and salmon texture is horrible. I just cannot risk my life for salmon, so didn't eat it. White fish I dont know what it is, it tastes so weird. The sushi we've gotten here has always been excellent but actually GETTING the sushi is a problem. I cannot tell you how many times we've called when they were supposed to be open and no one answers. Tonight when I called to order take out the woman asked if I could wait a few minutes and I said sure. I waited 10 minutes before the call dropped. I tried calling back a few times and it went straight to voicemail. We are going out of our way to order takeout from a sushi joint in West Leb because of this. When walking through the door we told the lady we had a reservation for habachi. She looked annoyed and rushed us to our seats. Was very unpleasant when taking our orders. We ordered calamari for an appetizer (which we never got) habachi was good but not worth the price. Dirty plates and empty drink cups were never cleared the whole time.She put the calamari that we never got on our check and when I told her we didn't get it she took the check, ran away and never apologized. I never leave reviews on here but this was an awful dinning experience. They are VERY lucky they are one of the only Asian restaurants in town. read more

As soon as we sat down, saw the dirty salt and pepper shakers... still hopeful, we ordered our meals. The soups were lukewarm at best. My sushi was decent but my husband's steak and scallop hibachi was smaller than my child's steak hibachi and the steak was grizzly. You could tell the grill hadn't been cleaned in awhile and cleanliness is not a top priority, just check out their bathroom. The rice was plain and didn't have any flavor. From outside this place looks like a dump, but don't judge a book by its cover. The food from this restaurant is incredible. I stopped in to grab some sushi, my spider roll and California roll were delicious. This place also serves hibachi which looks and smells delicious. Whomever makes the sushi takes no pride because it is sloppy and falls apart before you can even look at it. There Miso soup has gone to crap and not improved. Seaweed salad has gone from amazingly yummy, beautiful, and full of roe and panko. Now it isn't even edible!! Up until recently every order came with multiple Miso soup but now you don't even get that! Just a chinsy salad. Save your money and travel to keene, west leb or Manchester! Instead of driving 45 min north to exceptional but overpriced hibachi, we drive 45 min east into NH to try this spot. Sunday night date night at 7:30. I read the negative reviews and figured I'd try anyway. Tempered my expectations. It's a mom & pop hibachi spot in the middle of nowhere with I assume their daughter helping out. Take out was booming and they were working hard. Hibachi chef was also cooking on the bank and I assume the dad. Customer service / proper waitress service non-existent, but if you think you're getting that at a Chinese or Japanese restaurant, you're never gonna be happy. The Scorpion Bowl was too boozy, but what do you expect asking when you look at it as basically the mom making a drink that she don't drink. I got the filet mignon & lobster tail. It was cooked with butter & garlic too and it was delicious. Since we were the only hibachi diners at the time, we got a private hibachi show w/o the saki gag or food flinging, which I'm happy about. It was date night, just us & we were dressed well. All in all, they exceeded my expeditions, food was good & fresh and the place looked clean & nice. I can't really recommend this restaurant unless you have a craving for a general Japanese taste and no other options. We went as a party of four on a Friday night and although it was not busy, the food took far too long and when it arrived, it was lukewarm-- especially disappointing for the hot pot of soup with a lid. The restaurant was cold so we sat there in our coats. The waiter was very nice but good intentions only go so far. It's too bad, because Claremont could use some good restaurants. Go to Koto in West Lebanon or to the Korean gem in downtown West Lebanon, Yama. read more

I came here for lunch a few months ago, and the staff had clearly just arrived... the restaurant was freezing (this was January). I have been to this restaurant many times over the years and have always had an excellent experience. With that said the ownership change 2 weeks ago has brought the experience up to another level. The showmanship of the hibachi chef is great. The food is of a quality you would expect in a much larger market area (Boston, metro) if you haven't tried or haven't tried recently, you should get yourself in for a great show, great food, and excellent sushi. I don't write Yelp reviews much but my experience at this restaurant was memorable in all the wrong ways. I'm a vegetarian and I ordered a Bento box asking the waitress explicitly if all the contents of the box are vegetarian and even assured it didn't contain fish. She assured me multiple times that it would be vegetarian and I believed her. When I got my bento box I got 6 California rolls (which are definitely not vegetarian). I called the waitress over and asked why they gave me the California rolls and asked if they could give me Avocado rolls. She was incredibly stubborn and said that the bento box can only come with California rolls and Avocado rolls weren't an option. I mentioned that she stated that the bento box was going to be vegetarian and that I can't eat the sushi but she was adamant on not being able to get the Avocado rolls to substitute. She looks at my friend sitting across from me with a plate of his own and says "oh, he can eat it". And in my head, I'm sitting there pretty hangry at this point and wondering what I'm going to eat. I ended up eating a piece of tofu, a tiny salad, and a piece of fruit for $20 dollars. I actually had to go somewhere else for food, and I'm not the type to consume a lot of food. This place must literally have no heat or air conditioning, at all. Please allow me to explain.. Went here in January with some people to celebrate a friend's birthday. As a reminder, winter in NH is COLD, and heat is necessary indoors. It was so cold in this place, we all wore our winter coats and could see our breath. My honest, un-exaggerated guess is it was about 40 degrees in there. We had hibachi and the food was cold after sitting on our plate for a few minutes because it was that cold inside. My friend whose birthday we celebrated went back about a month later (in February). I jokingly asked her, "Hey, did they fix the heat yet? HAHAH." Because I had assumed that after a MONTH, a broken heat issue would be fixed. She replied, "Nope." Okay, soooo.. they don't have heat then, I guess. (And I can see that several of the other reviewers for this place can say they've experienced the same..) Now, yesterday was a hot May day, with temps in the upper 80's. I went here again with some people. It was miserably hot inside. I assume that can't be good for raw fish?! My friend asked them to turn on the A/C and they just didn't say anything, and A/C never came on. Additionally, immediately after being seated, the waitress just walked up to us holding her baby, and clearly expected a reaction from us. Girl, I didn't come here to play with your freaking baby. I came here to eat sushi, and that gesture was really unprofessional and put me in an awkward position off the bat, because I don't enjoy babies. Please don't assume everyone is interested in strangers' babies. And there's a room in the back of the restaurant with traditional Japanese sliding paper doors and such, which was obviously designed as a dining area, but the door is open and it's just filled with baby stuff. Then the baby starts wailing, because that's just what I want or expect to hear in a restaurant with zero other customers. It's sitting in another corner of the restaurant where the lights aren't even turned on. I guess they just keep the lights off in areas of the restaurant where people aren't sitting. Also, the tables around us are dirty. Again, we are the only people in the restaurant. The one redeeming quality of this restaurant, and the reason why it's getting a second star from me, is the food is pretty decent. They actually probably have the best sushi in the area that I've tried. But I don't want to eat sushi in an 80-degree room, ya know? I think the business must not be great here or something, and the lack of heat, A/C, and turned-off lights may be a cost-saving measure or something. But someone should tell these folks that they need to create a welcoming, comfortable environment to draw people in. And these things are necessities, not options, in an indoor restaurant in America serving this type of food. I really wanted to support these folks, but after 3-4 visits, I've decided I won't be going back here. read more

Uhmmm disgusting! About a pound of minced garlic in my meal. The steak was spoiled, when I asked if I could smell it lol he said no it's fresh we just got it this morning. The meat was gray. The guy kept saying how it was fresh so whatever. Took one bite of it and had to spit it out. Rotten. We told the waitress we couldn't eat it at all because the meat was bad and too much garlic and she said people aka for more garlic here! Say what?!? No flippin way, I can't taste my op I'm drinking right now because I have permanent garlic flavor in my mouth. The waitress also said all the places out here so it. BS. Oh and the cook guy was throwing out stuff that didn't fit on his spatula thing. The egg for the rice he broke and it went into the gutter thing and he picked it back up, just the yolk and chopped it up instead of getting another egg. Pretty sure the piece of chicken and steak I ate is making my stomach cramp as we speak, probably will have to go to the hospital for food poisoning. Avoid at all costs!!
