I have been coming here for a while now and they always take care of my hungry, it may not look like much on the outside but do not let the fool. They provide delicious food for a good price. Traditional cantonese restaurants are rare in the Coachcella Valley. If you are looking for ambiance, this would not be your place for dining in. This is chinese take-out with tables for those that can't wait to get home. They were doing a great hot Saturday afternoon business. The air conditioner kept the packed place cool. The food? Greasy spoon cantonese like I remembered and missed. I only wished they had pressed duck w/ brown sauce and some black bean dishes. The portions were outrageously huge. Our 5 dishes came out in 10 minutes, hot and steaming. A large bowl of white rice was included as well as cups of egg drop soup. Ahhh Kowloon! This is one of my must have's when I'm out in Cali visiting my family. It is located between a car wash and a dive bar, and in a block filled with carnicerias. Just look for the bright yellow building on the west side of the street. While this place might not be the cleanest looking, and at one point I think they had a "C" rating from the Health Department; the food is incredible! The lunch price is right at $5, and for that you'll receive a plate piled high with your entree, soup, an egg roll, and a massive glass of water or ice tea. It is enough food for two meals but I always eat it all because it is so delicious. My favorite lunch priced dish is the Szechuan Chicken. And my favorite standard priced dish is the Orange Chicken. Kowloon is located in North East Indio, and it is a sketchy area (hence why Indio is featured on COPS). Don't let this deter you from some of the best Chinese food in the Coachella Valley! read more

Now, Before I get started, I'll explain how I choose a star rating. If I go to a fast food joint, and it is excellent fast food, and good service, and worth the money I paid, it will get 5 stars. So, if I go into a McDonalds, and the service, food and cleanliness was great, and exceeded my expectations, they will get a 5. Met my expectations, a 4. The same goes for fine dining. If it's over priced, or the server had an attitude, but the food was great, they will get a deduction, for the other negs, unless something was so great, and I feel it makes up for the negative. We came here to get some food, as we were in Palm Desert, helping my niece move to a new apartment. My brother ate here all the time, when he lived here a few years ago. We made a 20 minute drive, just to come here to eat, and I was really happy we did. This place is in a dumpy building, and the interior reminded me of some of my favorite, run down, old, local eateries I frequented when I lived back in Hawaii. Hawaiians would totally get this. This place is all about value, huge portions and surprisingly decent food. Don't walk in here expecting ambiance and opulent service. You get what you pay for, and here, you get a lot for your money. The location and condition of the building keeps the rent down, I'm sure, and they pass it along in the largest portions I've ever seen from an Asian restaurant! I have half-slanted eyes too, so I like to think I know what I'm talking about.)) Seeing another posted photo on Yelp, I ordered the Yang Chow Fried Rice, for $7.25. It had shrimp, beef and chicken in it. Simple, flavorful, and the styrofoam to-go box was overstuffed to the point the rice molded to the shape of the box! it was over 100% full! The flavor was good, not great. Some green onion and sesame oil would have taken this over the top. But the value for the portion size, more that deserved the 5th star. I'm a big man, and this one dish, made three meals for me. I won't bore you with the details for the other dishes we ordered. I did take pics and will post them from my phone, after I'm done writing. I don't always write reviews, on these type of establishments, but after reading some of the troll reviews, I had to write something, to support these people and their restaurant! Firstly, this place has an A rating from the Health Department. (See my pic) If there was a cockroach problem, the Health Department would be all over it! If that roach wasn't planted, then I wouldn't be surprised if it wandered in from the dive bar next door. Roaches love bars, and stale beer. Secondly, complaints about it smelling like a toilet, was absolutely false! We went on a Sunday, September 11, 2016, at 5pm. There was not an empty seat in the house. Families all loading up on cheap eats. There was no smell.... just an appetizing aroma of food that made me hungry. Don't listen to the trolls..... if you want ambiance, then get it to go, or go somewhere else and pay twice as much. First thing first: Don't judge the place by its cover or its surroundings. As soon as you enter the facility, the staff make you feel welcome. They call everyone "My Friend" or "Primo". If you're a regular they already know what you will order. The tea is fresh and unlimited refills. There is plenty of options on the menu but The plate specials on the back page is where it's at. I recommend the 26: Pork Lo Main. It feeds up to two people. You might need a to go box if you're eating alone. And all this For only 6 bucks. I had my first Kowloon's experience yesterday morning and I was pleasantly surprised. You could never tell from the exterior of the building, or it's location in general, that such a welcoming restaurant was nestled inside. The staff is friendly and attentive and the atmosphere is casual and relaxing. I ordered off the lunch special menu and decided on the Chicken Lo Mein. The entree comes with an iced tea (in the biggest glass I've ever seen), an Egg Roll and Egg Drop Soup... All for $5.95. The portion size will feed me at least 4 times.
