We have been going to Kowloon's for years, ever since our most favorite place, Chin's, (where the senior center is now), closed. Haven't tried any other Chinese place. I guess we should try some others, but we're happy with Kowloons and it is convenient for us. My only complaint about Kowloons is that the food isn't always consistent, must have different chefs working that prepare the food differently. Wish we could find a place that serves Mandarin Duck. Chin's always had it, but I haven't heard of any one else who makes it. Yes, the restroom leaves a lot to be desired. Needs a remodel, but we normally get the food to go, so we avoid using the restroom. read more

Haven't been here in years because of my low carb diet. It's not what I remember for sure. The fried shrimp is a bit undercooked gooey inside with an old oil flavor. We used to make Kowloon's our go to Chinese restaurant but after moving three years ago and coming back for a visit we took 11 people for dinner there and was very disappointed. Over fried and sautéed food. Some dishes tasted like they had been reheated and not fresh. So sorry to report this because we always loved the food before. No cars in the parking lot that early evening either and that is not a good sign. Hope things get better and a sub cook was on duty. Server was very nice. read more

I am so disappointed with Kowloon Chinese food restaurant. I ordered Marfar chicken and general chicken both were so disappointing the general chicken was hard and stringy. I ordered beef chop suey: the meat was gray, gelatinous lumps and the veggies even less fresh. The ice tea was basically tap water. The service was OK. The ambiance was noises from the kitchen and a table of geriatrics loudly railing about politics. The menu was pretty limited. They had like three drink options. All and all, meh. Won't ever go back. We went on Christmas Eve, had a big party of people. We had made reservations and they took us into the back room where there was plenty of room for all of us. They had the absolute best fried shrimp I've ever had in a Chinese restaurant. I don't know how they make the batter but it was not greasy at all, and very crisp. The shrimp were really big and flavorful. I never have fried shrimp at Chinese places because the tempura is always so greasy but I had a few someone else ordered and it was awesome. I also tried their BBQ Pork and Chicken Almond chow mien. The veggies were cooked perfectly, still a little crispy and not cooked to mush. Everyone in our party ordered something different and it all looked delicious. I'd definitely recommend this place! It is an older restaurant so it is a little drab inside but I didn't think it was dirty. read more

This place was always my favorite growing up. Maybe hasn't held up as well with time as I would like, and may be causing me to throw in an extra star. This is what my experience with Chinese food stems from .... BBQ Pork done the right way. Not dipped in a gravy sauce, just wonderful bold flavors that stand on their own. If you're going to dip it in anything it's got to be the hot mustard and sesame seeds ... if you aren't familiar with hot mustard, a little goes a long way...always start light and increase the amount, if you go strong it will clear nasal cavities quickly! Next up, mar far chicken. So yes, it's fried chicken, but the golden crispy secret recipe they have for the golden batter goodness is as good as it gets anywhere. Insider tip - add some $$ and get the all white meat ... only way to go! Next up BBQ Pork and Bean sprouts with Pan Fried Noodles ... not sure what the sauce for the noodles are, but this is probably one of my favorite noodle dishes, regardless of origin (Italian, Thai, etc). If you have a large group they have family style so you can try several things and get a feel for lots of menu items. Prices are fair and on par with other Chinese places. To be totally fair they probably deserve 3 stars ... the place does need to be updated. The food is greasier then I ever remember ... but I just can't go there, it's still really good and hard to beat what they offer on the menu. read more

We had a family dinner. We ordered family style for 8. Family style for 8 USED to be two platters of each dish. This time, it was 1 plate of each dish. The price was the same as it has always been but the amount we were served was 1/2 of what it used to be. I understand inflation, but this was ridiculous. I remember back when Kowloon was the place to go for great Chinese food. That is no longer the case! My husband and I ordered two dishes. Mine was my absolute favorite Marr for chicken and chow mein with pink sauce. Of the five pieces of chicken I got two were burned. Practically beyond recognition and the remaining were cooked fine, but they had absolutely no flavor at all. the pink sauce is so dilute that it is unrecognizable. My husband, Kung Pao chicken was watery, not very hot, and just sad! The pork fried rice had one or two pieces of actual pork in it, one little piece of scrambled egg and cabbage was basically the only other thing that was included in either of our dishes. The lo mein noodles were over done with too much soy and fish sauce. We were very disappointed and absolutely will not even consider going again. Kowloons has always been our go to place for good food and friendly service since the 80's. The last few years it's been going downhill. It started with 'off' tastes that didn't seem fresh - like they were using old oil but it was OK. Not great like before but OK and still somewhat familiar. Then began the downward slide. Each time we got food it was a little worse. Less fresh, more overcooked and more old tasting oil. A couple days ago our friends invited us over for Kowloons take out. We ordered, picked it up, came straight home and it was still hot when we tried to eat it. Where to start? The Mar Far chicken was rock hard and the pieces we could even bite into tasted just like fish. We literally had to get a sharp knife to cut into one to see if we'd gotten shrimp by accident. The egg rolls were too hard to eat too. The fried rice was hard and dry and when we went to put it on our plate it sounded like we were dropping a handful pebbles onto a hard surface. That was bad enough but our next scoop uncovered a slimy mass of something we couldn't even identify. We decided we weren't eating that either. Next up was the BBQ pork pan friend noodles. It's always been a favorite. The most rancid dark oil you ever imagine was running out the bottom of the container and when we opened the top the smell was horrendous. We put everything back into the containers and our host called Kowloons. The woman she spoke was incredibly rude. They refused to replace or refund the dinner and when pressed said, "We're not a clothing store!" Kowloons may not be a clothing store but they're also not a restaurant anymore either. Over $70 worth of inedible food hit the trash and Kowloons didn't care one iota. In the end we paid $70 for a small handful of fortune cookies. Thankfully our host had picked up some beautiful cupcakes earlier from Kim's so we each had a fortune cookie and a cupcake for dinner and nothing else. We kept trying to patronize Kowloons for 'old times sake' and kept hoping they'd get their act together and return to the quality they used to be known for. This was our last try. There are other Chinese restaurants in the area that serve better food that you can actually eat. If there's a problem they will also make it right unlike Kowloons. Many others who loved the old Kowloons we've talked to are saying the same thing. Unless Kowloons turns things around they will be part of Roseburgs past because I don't know that many people willing to or who can afford to throw entire meals away more than once. It took several tries but Kowloons can now add two more households who used to be loyal customers to their list of ex customers. read more

We enjoyed the food here and the prices are reasonable. Our dinner party ordered mostly family style dishes that were well prepared and the service was very good. The general condition of the restaurant was somewhat run-down but, given how long this place has been around, I chalked it up to a lack of investment into the space. Once we completed our meal I took a visit to the bathroom and the regret immediately set in. The condition of the bathroom often reflects the conditions in the kitchen, so it was pretty concerning to see that the bathroom appeared to have not been cleaned in a very, very long time. The toilets in the stalls appeared to have not been touched by human hands for at least several weeks, if not months. The film that had grown inside the toilets was thick and black. The floors were sticky. The only thing the restroom had going for it was that there was soap in the dispensers and toilet paper in the stalls, so points for that. I visit Roseburg a few times a year but it is very doubtful that I will return to this particular place out of concern over what the back-of-the-house areas of the business probably look like based on the condition of the restrooms. read more

Kowloon's has some of the best mar far chicken, house fried rice, pork chow mein, fried pork noodles, and sweet n sour pork. Especially the fried rice. Other Chinese restaurants in Roseburg just do not have the excellent fried rice that Kowloon Restaurant has. When it comes to Roseburg, you have many Asian restaurants to select from, so if you don't like Kowloon's, there are other choices. read more

We were on this end of town, so we decided to try this place for lunch. In Asian restaurants we prefer a buffet so we can see a dish before we try it, but at this place you order off of a menu. They weren't very busy so we were seated right away, and attended efficiently by a reasonably friendly staff. Rose ordered a combo plate of fried shrimp and fried rice. The fried rice was good; nothing special. But good. The shrimp, on the other hand, was excellent. The batter coating was crispy and flakey, almost like Japanese tempura. The shrimp themselves were plump and juicy, cooked just right (not over cooked like so much seafood is around here). I would go back to this place if only to get the shrimp! I ordered a combo with egg foo young (very good), fried rice (see above) and pork chow mein. The chow mein left a lot to be desired. The vegetables consisted almost entirely of bean sprouts, with a few slices of celery. I like bean sprouts, but as a part of the total mix to add some texture, not as nearly the entire dish. The small amount of pork looked like bits of ground pork. I found the chow mein to be generally unappetizing. With lots of dishes on the menu, I'm sure some are really good, like the fried shrimp.
