I've wanted to try this place forever but was never near here when they open at 5. Finally, trying it for lunch today. Their thing is huge rolls and nigiri. I've read you can ask for normal size-I would definitely do that. We had a salmon nigiri to start. It's always a litmus test for quality. The pieces were extremely large-3 bites for me. The flavor was really good. The chicken teriyaki bento boxes were good. There was a salad, California roll, gyoza, tempura, and rice. The salad was excellent, the California roll has real crab, tempura and gyoza were very good, too. The chicken teriyaki was not grilled and was ok. Service is excellent and ambiance is good. I recommend and will definitely be back. This will be on regular rotation.

Teriyaki tofu and cucumber avocado sushi

We got take out - teriyaki tofu and cucumber avocado sushi roll. The food was very delicious and the price was good. The food was ready very quick and the portion sizes are big. The service is quick and the restaurant looked good inside.

    Giant Sushi!!

I've driven down Cass street dozens of times, but somehow overlooked Ami Sushi. That was a mistake I've finally corrected, and I'm so glad I did. Really good, fresh sushi and very generous portions! Our waiter was attentive and quick, too.

I have been frequenting Ami for quite some time. Unfortunately, I am not able to as I live a few hours north now. The positive and upbeat welcome each time I walk through the door is simply awesome. There, Sashimi and Sushi Rolls are on point. The service is always exceptionally pleasant. ( I actually was in a difficult spot homeless) The Staff were no different from any other visit. The atmosphere of this place is eloquently situated. The Itamae" and "Shokunin are characters both funny and professionally serious depending on the situation. Well proportioned and tastie. I once was delivered sashimi on ice 76 miles east at the Umpqua Hot Springs

I NEEDED SUUUUU-SHIIII!!!! Three months after my move to Glide, Oregon (a beautiful place boasting many characters, including now, me), I was feeling fit and feisty. And needing a sushi fix. I'd been doing a lot of cooking; it seemed only fair. Now, Roseburg doesn't have a lot of choices for the sushi fan. Glide, where I actually live, has none. This part of the state is more of a burger and steak reality, I've been discovering. So I was very happy to discover Ami Sushi and Korean Bar-be-cue in the cute little downtown area. I decided to give it a try. I hunted down the menu on-line (thank you to their web designer for recognizing that might be helpful), and phoned in my order. The woman who took my call was pleasant and professional. "20 minutes", they told me. Which is almost as long as it takes to drive into Roseburg from my riverside habitat. But I wanted sushi. It was late afternoon, clear skies. I did the drive. The outside of the building has had some wear but the inside of the restaurant is very clean, nice and homey. I look forward to being able to enjoy a meal in there one day. The sushi chef is experienced. I recognize the knife skills of a pro when I see them. Not having had sushi in over three months made me greedy. I also had no idea how frickin' HUGE their rolls are. I ordered too much. Two rolls: an avocado and a local handroll concoction with fresh tuna and yet more avocado (I like it and it's heart healthy so, you know, no judgements. Please.). Also, two orders of fresh salmon nigiri. The fish was fresh. Nice surprise. Normal sized nigiri. Decent rice, not too sweet. The hand roll of fresh tuna and avocado, was very, very good. The other roll, as I've said, was massive. I guess in Douglas County bigger is better. I detest the fake krab places use as their filler and this was no exception. After I'd pulled the foul stuff out, the roll was quite tasty. And no, I couldn't eat everything. I took the rest home and chowed down later for my dinner. There are lots of photos on the walls of regulars, folks who have been coming here for years. Given it's pretty much the main game in town, I'm thinking my pic is going to be up there one of these days. Eatin' sushi. Irassaimasse!

Perhaps the spicy shrimp tempura roll or the spider roll

We had a fabulous time at Ami Japanese sushi. Loves their beer selection, especially Asahi. We had the spicy octopus roll, the spicy shrimp, tempura roll, rainbow roll the dragon roll. We chose to have their special large roils, we ate them with our hands as that's the only conceivably way to. We will definitely return!

Very friendly staff. The sushi was way to large aka fat. Can't eat it in one bite or two. Vegetable rice was good too.

Food is to-go, though, you can sit at a table and eat it but it is still in to-go containers. We ordered a miso soup and sushi combination that comes with a salad, 2 tuna & 2 salmon nigiri sushi and 8 pieces of California roll. This was plenty for 2 for lunch and would be great even for dinner. The miso was ok and the sushi combo was good. The fish was fresh and tasty. The roll was good, too. I'm not especially into rolls but it is good for lunch. The salad was fresh and good sized. It came with what tasted like a mayo based dressing but I made my own with rice vinegar, sugar and a bit of sesame oil. I have to say I'm surprised it was that good. The sushi was better than expected for a to-go place. I really don't like to-go containers. I even bring my own to restaurants so I don't add to the plastic or styrofoam problem so this will be the dilemma in deciding whether to come back here. Maybe I can convince them to give it to me in parchment or in my own containers. I would love if this place would open for regular lunch and dinner service. This would be a great addition!

They were a little pricier compared to what I'm used to paying, but I figured it was fair because, we in Eugene do not have easy access to a lot of items that are found in our local chain grocery stores. I came across the produce section and was excited to find 2 bags of taro leaves (we call it luau leaves back home). The two packages they had, looked like it had smaller leaves than I preferred, but looked really fresh. I was planning on surprising my family by making palusami since I only had 2 bags and didn't have enough for make laulau. I had all of my ingredients laid out and ready. Imagine my surprise and disappointment when I opened the taro leaf packages and found that inside the nice and fresh leaf, were small, wilted, yellow, brown spotted, broken and ripped with holes taro leaves! These are basically the leaves that a grocery store should not be selling and instead, they decided to deceive their customer by wrapping those leaves with a nice, fresh one on the outside. I felt so disappointed in this store! I'm from the island, I know my taro leaves. If they did this purposely thinking other people will not notice, shame on the store. I know many have raved about the produce here, and I hope that this is a fluke. I will try again in a couple of weeks. If I get similar results, I will need to talk to the owner about getting a better vendor. Or i'll just order it from back home and pay that shipping charge.

With that said, it was very challenging to find modern songs as there were numerous songs that were not in English and some of the English songs were actually in a totally different style than what we are used to hearing here in the US. So if you are expecting karaoke like you would have in the local bar this is not the place. The karaoke rooms are large with plenty of couches and seating, there's a big screen that displays videos and the words, you're given two microphones and there's some fun lighting that happens. During our time there the air conditioner was not working in our room so it became really hot, but they moved us to another room which was really nice. We were there during karaoke happy hour which was $15 per person per hour so it does add up pretty quickly. Also, we were there on a Friday evening and we were the only ones there, when I asked the attendant at the front desk if this is normal, she said they're not very busy on the weekends but during the week they're very busy with the Asian population. They do sell alcohol, but it's a very limited menu, they did offer a magnum of Cook's champagne at $38 a bottle, which was steep, but what made it not worth it was the fact that it was room temperature. I don't think this is an establishment I will visit again, but I do wish them well as they put a lot of thought and money into their karaoke establishment.
