Akai Hana is one of my favorite hometown restaurants. The chicken teriyaki bento box is delicious and a great deal. I love the atmosphere and the service is great. It's a staple in the area and one of my favorite places to dine or carry out.

As good as ever! Saturday night dinner and we enjoyed every bite of our salmon tempura bento box and ala carte rolls. Every course is fresh and tasty. The service is consistently friendly and quick with fast water and tea refills.

Traveling a lot in the past couple of years to the Northeast suburbs, of Chicago, we happened to come across AKI HANA. Bit of a difficult time to get parking by the restaurant at peak dining time. The place is always very crowded. The wait staff is small but manages to accomplish their waitstaff duties with reasonable efficiency. Very large, complex menu, condensed somewhat for the lunch crowd. The wife and I have tried several of their offerings that we are used to ordering elsewhere. Quality, taste and freshness compares with the best! Their luncheon Bento Box offerings are especially wonderful. TEMPURA can be included in a variety of offerings. Let me say this; - - - - - I have had Tempura all over the country and especially the Chicago area. I have to rank theirs ***** the best I have had anywhere. Flavor, texture and non-greasy, are their special merits. They usually give you enough TEMPURA included with a Bento Box, that equals what others serve as an entree. I could go on and on. If you dine at lunch you may want to ask for their MAIN MENU, along with the Lunch Menu. Very hard to imagine why anyone would down-rate this restaurant. Of course, no one is perfect 365 days of the year.

I get lunch here several times a year... so not exactly a regular, but I've been around enough to see the menu evolve and stay the same. It's a nice plaza-style restaurant. Yes, as others have pointed out, parking can be a little tight (it was worse pre-pandemic when the lot seemed to be under repair all the time). I am not a good judge of "authentic" or not... but it is certainly a little more classical in its approach. Yes, there are some non-standard dishes and rolls, but they aren't as crazy as new age stuff out there. We often get the bento box lunches, which is a fair amount of food... a soup, crab salad, entree, and a cali roll. I'm also a fan of the udon, which seems a little more no-frills. I can see service being a little inconsistent, but I've always been a little sympathetic since it's been very hard to fully staff up.

Haven't been here in a long time. This place is still good. The servers and the host are very attentive. There's lotz to choose from on the menu. We went during the week and it wasn't extremely busy. I wanted the sea bass teriyaki but they didn't have any. So I ordered the orange roughy teriyaki combo. It was delicious. Then my b4 ordered the sashimi dinner. We ordered extra pieces of salmon, tuna and uni sushi. They also had toro sushi which is fatty tuna. It was delicious. I'll ordered more of that. I never had uni before so I tried it. It wasn't for me. He loved it so he could eat mine anytime. It's far for us but we will come back when in the area.

We arrived around 7:45 for dinner because we didn't know they closed at 8 pm on a Friday. Still, they were kind to seat us and had our order out pretty quickly. They brought us complimentary bowls of miso soup. We tried the pork gyoza, which was prepared perfectly with the right amount of crunch and chewy texture. I will say, I generally do not like to eat sushi, but the food was decent. I enjoyed the Louisiana roll and the greedy shrimp roll.

Good lunch spot. My hubby and I were very pleased with the portions for the price and you get to try a lot of variety. The interior is a little dated. They have the sushi bar area blocked off for employees only.

We ordered two rolls as well, salmon rice bites, two appetizers, and two sides of sashimi. So we left three of the nigiri on the plate.., the rolls were not great as well... seeing how off the nigiri was left quite a bit of the sashimi on the plate. Forced ourselves to eat since our bill came to $180 with tip but seeing the amount of food left the server kindly asked us to whether we wanted to box anything and didn't want to get sick so politely declined. Seeing that most of the tables around us stuck to ramen understand that is why this place has good reviews.... The star is purely for the service (they sweetly took a picture of three of us) and the table was comfortable with one side being a bench against a brick wall and TVs showing the world series but a really expensive mistake to make worst of all it was my one night of dinner seeing my daughter at college and not the way that I wanted her to remember our time together.

I've had many clutch spots over the years as I moved around, but it took me a minute to find my North Shore go-to. But here I am, a local for half a year now, and my go-to is Ni's, 100%. Lisa, the owner extraordinaire, is friendly, engaging, and an absolute customer service star. Not to mention a formidable chef. She has an obvious passion for food and its cultural history, and I love talking with her about it. The whole crew at Ni's is awesome and always happy to chat or handle any dish alterations. They clearly care about their clientele, and it's one of the things that keeps me coming back. My "must have" is the veggie summer rolls. I get them every time. Really, really good. And after living in the Vietnamese neighborhood of San Francisco for a few years, eating out almost daily, I've had my fair share of summer rolls. The produce at Ni's is always fresh, and I love how they cleverly use jicama for crunch. The rolls come with peanut sauce, but Ni's makes a delicious vegan fish sauce in-house that I go with almost every time. Banh Mi, Veggie Pho, Crispy Tofu, Fried Rice, I've had everything on the menu that is vegan or can be made so, and I'll gladly order them all again and again. This is not an all-vegan restaurant by any stretch (fear not, meat eaters), but Lisa goes out of her way to have options, and I've never been anything but satisfied. Even my kindergartner is into the veggie Pho broth and summer rolls, and he's not the easiest to please. Wilmette is lucky to have Ni's. I hope everyone knows that. They're tucked around the corner from the busier area of Central Ave and Wilmette Ave, and I've been doing my best to spread the word. "You've never been to Ni's?! Get the hell outta here.." So, if you didn't know, now you do. You're welcome.

A lot of the familiar things on the menu. There's of course the banh mi and pho. It's about $13 for the Veggie Pho Chay. This has bamboo and mushrooms. Has a few things to add on. There's basil leaves, bean sprouts, and jalapeños to give it spiciness. Has a great variety of Vietnamese classics. It's closed Tuesdays. There's a few things for vegans and vegetarians.

There was a live saxophone player and I loved the live flowers they had. Our waiter was extremely nice and took the time to explain the menu as well as their customer favorites. I order a Thai iced tea which wasn't bad but I prefer mine a little thicker and sweeter. It came in a thin tall glass which in theory was not a lot of drink. To start we order the chicken appetizer and fried beef on rice to share and unfortunately I did not snap a pic but these were listed under apps or shareables but the portions were extremely small. As our mains came I noticed that they were also small and each were around $20-$30 per plate. Not a bad thing if you don't eat much but I'm a big bang for buck type of gal. My family came to share and this place is a more fine dining thai restaurant which could explain the smaller portions. We ordered the pad Thai which was alright in my opinion I expected a little more flavor, the aubergine which was tossed vegetables as recommended by our waiter which was also ok not much flavor but beautiful plating though, and the coconut curry which was by far my favorite. If I were to come back here I would order that again, it was a nice light yet complex flavor profile which made me savor every bite. Overall good place for an upbeat fancier meal and I highly recommend the coconut curry braised chicken if you visit. Little pricey but that's just my opinion let me know what you guys think if you visit! There's also plenty of good vegan and vegetarian choices and lots of spicy stuff or whatever. It's about $12 for a cocktail. There's a good amount of Asian inspired ones. Among these is the Bangkok Mule. This was made with kaffir lime infused vodka. Crisp and refreshing. The food is kind of pricey, which is the only bad thing. It's about $16 for an entree. The vegetarian choices include the Crispy Rice With Iceberg Wedge. A lame name but it was good. This had chili lime dressing, ginger, peanuts, shallots, tofu noodles, and white jelly mushrooms. Good just slightly Americanized Thai food. It's pretty authentic to be honest.
