We were in the area and decided to try this restaurant. It was a lovely experience! We both had their Tonkatsu curry (mine with cheese) and with the spiciness kicked up a notch. Yum! As an appetizer, we picked Karaage, which was delicious-- fried crispy with the chicken inside still moist and tender. I have to mention a couple of things about our visit that will have us coming back: first and most notably, the music playing in the background was relaxing and not too loud. Almost every restaurant you go to plays music overbearingly loud. So this is such a nice difference that I wanted to mention it. The other notable thing is that the restrooms are very clean and tidy. While this wasn't the best ramen I've ever had (RIP Ramen Setagaya), this hits the spot for me with its authenticity and location. Egg was still jammy, pork was nice, bowl was big. It was on the saltier side (but I like that). I think the Koyo ramen didn't have much truffle flavor, or rather the black garlic overpowered it. An elderly Japanese couple came in while I was there and they said that they thought it was good- and that to me speaks volumes. I'm super happy that there is a more authentic ramen place closer to me now. It's a 45 minute drive, but well worth it. I can't wait to come back for the curry katsu. I'm a huge Ramen fan so was super excited to hear a Ramen Shop opened so close to me. Koyo Ramen did not disappoint! Food was great. Started with the Parmesan Brussel Sprouts and I had the Spicy Tofu Ramen (I also asked for extra egg because that is one of my favorite parts). The soup was perfectly spicy and super flavorful. They also have a great Bubble Tea selection including Winter Melon which is my personal favorite but harder to find. Service was great! Super friendly staff! Loved the restaurant had a good amount of people in it and there seemed to be a good amount of take out happening too! My wife & I love a ramen restaurant so we thought we'd give Koyo a try based on a recommendation. It's set up like a fast casual place which you'd expect from a ramen bar. Comfy and clean. Service was great even though there was only one person handling tables AND seating. We knew what we wanted but overheard the waitress guiding some ramen rookies through the menu. We ordered vegetable gyoza & chicken karage for appetizers and we both got spicy tonkatsu ramen. Appetizers were excellent! Chicken was crispy and flavorful and came with a zesty aioli. I swung by and checked out this restaurant last week and it was very nice. The ambiance is chill and very clean, oriental and looked like they had a bubble tea bar which was cool. I hade the Tonkotsu Ramen and Gyoza. The gyoza was nice and crispy on the outside stuffed with mixed veggies. It was amazing and the sauce you could drown in. Gyoza is a solid 8/10. The ramen was carefully prepared. I did order an extra egg but usually you get half and here they have you full eggs which was perfect. The broth is savory and the por was thick and tender. The egg was just a regular boiled egg. Usually some ramen spots have like a sweet pickled egg they put in and Naruto as well. Overall the ramen for me was a solid 8/10. There's only one spot in DC that would top this but they have the best portion sizes and also the cut of the pork is super thick and tender. The pork alone was 9.5/10 easily. The broth is phenomenal and very flavorful; you can tell the taste is from a broth that was home made and not from a box powder that so many places in DC use. Got here around 8:00pm last night. I was the only diner in there for a while until another couple came in. I got the karaage and the Koyo Signature Ramen. There was one lady who was the hostess, waitress, and server. Given that the restaurant wasn't busy, this was fine. She was very attentive to refilling my water and asking if I needed anything. The karaage came out very crispy, hot, and juicy with a Mayo dipping sauce, cabbbage salad side, and lemon. The Koyo Signature ramen came with 6 slices of pork and 2 halves of a soft-boiled egg (in contrast to many other ramen restaurants that only give you 1 half of a soft boiled egg, or sometimes none at all). I got really full trying to finish everything. They give you a generous amount of food which justifies the price. This is definitely a gem for locals who live out here. But if you're in the epicenter of Nova, it's not worth the drive to Purcellville given the alternatives you have. read more

I first went to Koyo on their opening week and didn't like how their ajitsuke tamago(soft boiled egg) was cooked. It was more hard boiled then soft, but decided to give it another go later in the future. Here we are 8 months later and have gone back to Koyo 5 times. What keeps us going back is their service, multiple menu selections, a bar, bubble tea, and their chicken Karaage. However, their Ramen has gotten much better than what we first tried on their opening week - noodles are great, broth not too oily and most of all their ajitsuke tamago cooked just right! Food: They have a variety of Ramen bowls, although I'm not too much of a fan of their signature Koyo bowl. I like my Ramen brothy and lots of flavor. And I feel this bowl misses the mark on that. However, I find myself gravitated more towards their Shoyu pork Ramen bowl, the pork just goes well with the Shoyu broth and find it more flavorful to my tastes. I really enjoy their Chicken Karaage appetizer. If you are trying Koyo for the first time, I definitely recommend getting this dish. Other restaurants over cook their chicken Karaage, making it tough and their batter dry. I find Koyo's chicken Karaage very moist, tender, breading crispy and not over done. If you are looking for Japanese style dinner, then I recommend getting their chicken katsu combo. Their chicken is cooked well, katsu sauce is great and on the tangy side and just works together. I have had better chicken Katsu compared to Coco curry house in Japan, but this hits the spot when I crave it. They do have a curry selection too if that fits more your tastes. Ambiance: The wall paintings of Japanese art is cool to see. The kids are always intrigued about the different Japanese art styles they see on the wall. They do have a bar with foreign (Asian) drinks for sale if you're into Sake and Soju. Music is great, and dining area is spacious. Service: Service here is great, food comes to the table at a reasonable time and waitress is always friendly and checks up on us. Location: Koyo is a great restaurant that you can get your Ramen fix here in west Loudoun. Their location makes it a prime spot for those that live here that do not want to take a drive from Purcelville to another Ramen restaurant that could be 45mins away. Overall, being that they are the only Ramen shop in the vicinity makes it great place to get your Ramen fix without having to spend 2 hour round trip. In summary, Koyo has multiple selections on their menu other than Ramen. Their Shoyu Ramen I find more on the brothy side, while I highly recommend also getting their chicken Karaage as an appetizer. Ambiance, service, and location are great! If you live in the area and looking to get a Ramen fix, look no further this place hits the spot! read more

An absolute gem of a restaurant in the heart of a quaint little town called Purcellville, VA. After being open for about a week and hearing great things my wife and I decided to stop in for a lunch date. This was our first time having this level of ramen and it didn't disappoint! I got the Vegetable Ramen which boasted an amazingly flavored broth filled with an assortment of veggies like broccoli, carrots, scallions, two different types of mushrooms, seaweed, and tofu. Not to mention the noodles were cooked to perfection. This ramen dish was filling and packed with flavor! I topped my meal off with a refreshing passion fruit green tea which had the perfect amount of sweetness. My wife got the Spicy Shio Ramen. Her dish was surprising at first due to the spicy broth, but you settle in quickly due to the amazing flavor profile. This was packed with fried chicken, seaweed, eggs, scallions, and the same perfectly cooked noodles. My wife couldn't finish hers and at first I was reluctant to try it only because I'm not a fan of soggy chicken, but this bowl is an exception to the rule. Very quick service, and fun decorations, music was at a good level, and not crowded at all. Good portions of food. Curry ramen was quite spicy and I have a pretty good level of tolerance. The chicken in the ramen was a little scary to eat, because it was fried and still pink inside. I poked at every bite to check if it was raw or not. This is the only acceptable ramen I've had in the area outside DC. We ordered takeout last night and everything was perfect. I am usually expecting to be disappointed with how people package things, but this was above and beyond. We both got the spicy tonkatsu and the flavor was perfect, spice level perfect. It has great food and and a beautifully designed interior for what is essentially a casual family dining experience at a reasonable price. The Japanese dishes are exotic for small-town America but delicious and easy for any palate rather than an acquired taste. The Thai owner served us and made us feel right at home. Finally a local Ramen house that I don't have to drive to Reston or DC for, and its fantastic.  We were initially apprehensive when Koyo first opened and allowed all the hype to die down.  The kids finally broke us down and we stopped in for lunch.  I am so thankful that we did because once we sipped the Ramen broth, I could immediately taste that this was not a run of the mill soup.  We ordered the Koyo special after starting with the Kaarage appetizer which was hot, fresh and delicious.  Our kids ordered bubble teas and the adults opted for the Green Jasmine tea which was perfect, not bitter.  Regarding the Koyo Ramen special and with the first sip, I was regretful that we hadn't stopped in sooner.  The broth was perfect, not salty at all with a hint of Truffle oil and black garlic.  Our son ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen and the pork was so tender, he didn't really have to chew.  Overall, we found our new Ramen house and the service was attentive.  Annie, restaurant owner, was very kind and welcoming.  She informed us that the broth was her special homemade recipe and we could definitely tell.  Thank you Annie... 100% this was better than Jinya (Reston / Arlington). read more
