Great find! We are from Texas and got the Cajun Pasta and the Honey Hot Ginger Chicken. Ordered the artichoke dip and before it even got there, we had a pan full of cornbread and let me say everything we had was perfect. I asked for Creole season and the cook in the back whipped it up because they didn't have any. We tried Kozak's on a recommendation from a family member. We had the pork tenderloin sandwich that came with horseradish sauce and either fries or homemade chips and the catfish fillets. The service was good, prices were normal. It was average food. I felt like the pork tenderloin had been cooked too long and a little on the dry side. Fish was ok but my guest said she's had better. Held our November book club meeting at Kozak's. It was my first time here. Interior was nice and clean. Separate areas for dining or booking parties and a nice bar area. I had the BBQ grilled cheese and others had the bbq cheeseburgers. For appetizers we had spinach dip and fried green tomatoes. Our server was really great, however later into the meal her attentiveness lacked as the restaurant became busier. Food was great, dinner service starts around 5pm and the food for that timeframe looked delicious! May need to come back for dinner! read more

It was cozy and dark last time I visited. The prices were fair and the service was fantastic. Also amazing drinks.

Pretzel was frozen, 100% a pretzel from the freezer isle Ordered "kozaks burger" with NO BACON and wanted it cooked medium well. Burger came with a heap of bacon melted into the cheese and it was 100% medium rare. Sent burger back and when it came back out it had even more bacon on it, sent back for a second time bc my gf is repulsed by pork products. Finally came out correctly only for us to realize that the burger had never been re-fired, it was simply put in the microwave and cooked through. They added cheese on top so we wouldn't see it was the same exact piece of meat. Cheese was rubbery as if the microwave sucked every ounce of moisture out of it. I ordered the fish and chips, it's supposed to come with fish, fries, coleslaw and a side of tartar sauce, I paid to substitute the fries for a Caesar salad. When my food arrived it was missing the tartar sauce and coleslaw, the Caesar dressing tasted like it was from a bottle and I wouldn't be surprised if the tartar sauce was from a jar. Now for the finale! When it came time to pay we realized that nothing had been taken off or at the least reduced! Even after sending the burger back twice and me missing my sauce and side... NOTHING!!! I'd like to think that me and my girlfriend are pretty understanding when it comes to simple mistakes or new staff in the kitchen but this was just unacceptable. Our waitress truly did do the best she possibly could, she was running around 24/7 all night while still having an engaging and nice table side personality. 5 stars for our waitress by sadly 0 stars for the food. read more

So yesterday I made another trip up to Kozak's in Smithville. Where I found out that they had a new item on their menu. It turns out that they have added a mushroom and Swiss cheeseburger. So, I thought I would give it They start with an 8 oz patty of delicious ground beef and sear it to perfection, medium, pink, and juicy! That burger is then laid down on a lovely, toasted brioche bun. With a generous portion of sauteed mushrooms that they cover with melted Swiss cheese and add a dollop of dijonae sauce, their creation is ready for the tummy! It was ok. I came because of proximity to the hotel and the reviews were better than other places. I ordered a fish Po'Boy with fries. The fish was almost burnt/overcooked. It was more salty than to my liking. I couldn't finish the fries. They were ok. They had coleslaw in the sandwich. It was dry. They must do things differently than in the South. I prefer my slaw with a little dressing. The service was quick, and it was extremely busy for a Sunday night. I guess the people like what they were doing. read more

We walked in and it was a very cleanly place, got seated right away, brought out waters as we got settled and then took our drink order which came out rapidly. We ordered appetizers which consisted of fried green tomatoes and spinach artichoke dip, which were so good! Then the waitress took a while to get our meals ordered, when she finally did our appetizers were gone. I had the BBQ burger and sweet potato fries which was very tasty, and my friends had a Cobb salad and brisket bbq grilled cheese and everyone enjoyed the food, however as it got busier the waitress was lacking. Kozak's appears to be a labor of love between a professional chef and his designer/artist wife. The interior is sleek and clean with a safe corporate feel. It screams upper middle class suburbia and welcomes Smithville out of the remote farm town identity it has known for decades. Although I did not drink, I was impressed with the multiple local beers on tap I could see from the dining room. The menu was basic American grill options. The Fish and Chips sounded good for lunch and they delivered. Three large filets battered up and fried perfectly. Plenty of fries and a cup of fresh Cole Slaw made a hearty lunch for about $12. I would go back. Only complaint was that they did not offer wifi. The reception is bad and that was admitted by the waitress. It's hard to promote a great lunch via social media or let your friends know which watering hole your at if communication is dead. read more

Believe the hype! This place is a gem. We arrived on a Saturday evening as a party of 8 and the staff was clearly dedicated to finding us a table in the shortest time possible. Like, they truly felt bad we had to wait 15-20 min for our large party to be seated on a weekend dinner rush. We didn't mind the wait at all but we really appreciated the customer service. Specialty cocktails were delicious. And the menu! Such a great selection. I ended up ordering the popcorn shrimp tacos, and was fully prepared to receive 2 artful but small-ish tacos. Not the case! They were heaped with crispy shrimp in a tangy sauce and loads of toppings. My husband ordered the daily special which he thoroughly enjoyed and the rest of the adults in our party ordered impressive burgers. We all also ordered a starter salad, which was loaded with delicate mixed greens. I tried the house dressing, but the one complaint I have is that the salads are topped with Fritos. Might not have been so bad with ranch dressing, but the flavors were just strange with a vinaigrette (by itself, the vinaigrette was great). Honestly, I think they could lose the Fritos all together. But really, everything else was gourmet. For the kids - they have paper menus with crayons. Always a win for parents. We will definitely be back! I feel their food and atmosphere (I haven't even mentioned how great it is inside!) rivals the nicer restaurants in KC proper, and for a fraction of the price, to boot. Whenever I am in Smithville I always try to drop in Kozak's. They have a wide variety of menu options and always an interesting special. This time I had the salmon BLT. It was a grilled salmon with raspberry-habanero Mayo, bacon and lettuce on a toasted multigrain wheat berry bread. Yummolicious !! The special was a Brie Burger with strawberry jam. What a fantastic find this was in Smithville! Located in a strip mall on the main thoroughfare, this unassuming storefront is a wonderful bar and restaurant with great comfort food meals, phenomenal service, good drink selection, and super affordable prices. We had the pretzels with beer cheese, southwest egg rolls, and wings. The wings were solid. The pretzels were hot, buttery, with the perfect chewy texture. The beer cheese was melty and excellent. They actually gave me more cheese than needed for the pretzel. The egg rolls had perfectly fried won tons and fantastic flavor. I loved the chipotle ranch dip. I will order these egg rolls every time I return. We split a pair of entrees. The tenderloin was served on a brioche roll. It had a nice panko breading and a moist, thick cutlet. The house made horseradish sauce was a nice spread for the sandwich and the excess was a nice dip for my sweet potato fries. The brisket grilled cheese is amazing. The house jalapeño bread has incredible flavor and is a nice "crusty" bread. The brisket is actually better than some of the BBQ joints in town. The real star is the cornbread. Best cornbread I've ever had! Nice, crisp exterior with a doughy, flavorful center. I can't get enough of this cornbread! And the dessert selection is legendary. Overall, a must visit! read more

We visited KoZak's for the first time last night at the recommendation of family. We were a party of 5 and were seated quickly. The restaurant has a fairly nondescript front but a modern, clean, and comfortable interior. It was a tad loud but not unreasonably so given what one might expect on a Friday night. Our server was friendly and attentive throughout. No time for chitchat. No worries whatsoever. The menu ranges from tasty sounding apps to equally tasting sounding entrees. Burgers and sandwiches fill the void. Very well. After waffling between the Catfish Po'Boy and Smoked BBQ Brisket Grilled Cheese, I chose the later and was not disappointed. The fries were coated, seasoned, and tasted great. However, I also ordered a bowl of the Kansas City Steak Soup and found it without much in the way of meat and reminding me of vegetable soup. I was admittedly expecting better. My wife had a fully loaded KoZak burger and fries, all of which she thought was very good if a little more done than her request for "medium rare". It certainly looked good. Next time in I will try that myself and push the customization limits e.g. peanut butter, an egg, extra cheese, etc. The rest of my party's choices included the aforementioned burger, fish and chips, and fried shrimp plus two deserts - a fudge brownie with ice cream and the gooey butter cake (YUM). No complaints, just clean plates all around. The only punitive deficits were the length of time it took to get our food and the soup I had. We'll be back and I certainly do recommend KoZak's next time you're in Smithville with an appetite. read more

The honey cornbread came with a glob of real butter already melting in, great start. The app- "pgts " were pickled green tomatoes with a kick of spice. The pickling spices found their way under the batter in a few pieces, and I wasn't mad. My dish was the pan fried chicken. My server promised a chicken breast. I got a boneless, skinless thigh breaded and fried. While the chicken found its way to the side of the plate, the amazing seafood "gravy" found it's way into my tummy.
