I had a short, but great experience here and would return. Bottom line: I found the facility and equipment to be great, the staff and other students to be very warm, personable, receptive but also firm in working and teaching us, and the actual training to be very valuable. Unfortunately, I had a serious underlying medical condition I wasn't aware of that started manifesting during training and I had to cut it short. Fortunately my doctors figured it out, I'm improving and starting to get active again, and hope to return someday soon. I had joined just on a month by month basis just to see what it's like. I have a very high pressure job and have absolutely no control over my day nor schedule, fly frequently, and to be frank many days I'm just very tired after a stressful long day at work.... so consistently and commitment are not my strong spots. I appreciated the opportunity to sign up on monthly without a longer term commitment, and don't mind at all paying for that convenience. I attended probably ten total sessions over the course of a few months, and here's what I found: - Great staff. From the young folks working the front desk to the trainers and to the folks that I assume were owners or management, everyone was personable, warm, and inviting. Don't let that fool you though - while the trainers were absolute accommodating of everyone's different skill and fitness levels and personal challenges, they made sure you got your money's worth and motivated and cheered, but also pushed, all in positive energy. - Great facility. There is a single very large room for the krav and kick boxing group sessions, then a smaller room of heavy backs, and then finally a large "crossfit" style room in the back. The large krav room is nicely padded, the boxing room had a lot of heavy bags, enough to accomodate a good sized group, and the crossift room had everything you would expect, like squat racks, ropes, boxes, balls, even pipes for warmups and stretches. IIRC they even have some protein for sale, which I appreciate. I believe they also sell new and used gear, so you can get boxing gloves there, and even buy like used kick shields and other gear they retire. - Great training all around. While this is primarily a Krav gym, they bring in other focal areas like boxing and workouts. The Krav sessions were a blast, learning general techniques like elbows, front and back kicks, etc. There were typically multiple trainers for each session. They session started with a warmup, typically some fast moving back and forth type of stuff, dynamic stretches etc. and then large group sessions where we paired up in twos or threes and went through the prescribed routines. This was always interesting because you never knew who you would get matched up with and there was a great age, gender and fitness diversity but everyone was very positive energy, friendly and supportive ... just some kicked a bit harder than the others :) The boxing sessions were smokers. This really opened up my eyes to just how much stamina is required in boxing; if you've never really intently thrown your hand at a large heavy bag before then you just don't realize how much it takes out of you. You need your own gloves, which you can get on your own or buy there. It's not a boxing gym, but I would call it like "boxing lite" - as an add-on to the krav sessions. There is no sparring ring for instance. I have never boxed before, and got a lot out of this training and enjoyed it a lot. The trainer to student ratio here was high as well since this is a smaller room which can't accommodate as many students as the main room. The general fitness sessions in the crossfit room were equally toasty, with some very fit men and women leading and attending the sessions. The diversity of training reminded me of my military days, with calistenics, weights, ropes, box jumping, etc. The warmups alone were kind of a full workout for me, and then they were followed by some pretty intense constant moving through a variety of exercises with the routines changing constantly. It was awesome using my entire body in such a variety of motions despite it being pretty tough for me. No one ever treated me dismissively; they simply let me catch my breath and then pushed me to continue on. Value for dollar here was extremely high for me. I do have a top plan at Columbia Association that I frequently use for myself and the family, but do have a gym dedicated to this type of training, complete with passionate trainers and a good student to trainer ration was really nice. Literally the only downsides I saw were that it's in a strip that has a tight parking lot, with not a ton of spaces available. I do wish there were more available on Sundays as my weekdays are just too challenging and unpredictable, but I still managed to make several sessions and have a great time. read more

I visited this Gym in October of 2022. I paid a fee to take a class as a trial. While talking to the instructor Kyle, we discussed the steps to join the Gym. I had concerns about joining because some gyms use pretty hostile tactics to keep your membership active. I directly asked him if I could cancel at any time. The instructor Kyle said "Yes of course, we're not like that.". A week later I was in an accident and broke 3 ribs. I was not able to physically continue with the training. I let them know and they directed me to a website to fill out a cancelation form. Three months later, I got an email from them saying basically that "We're going to charge your card unless you tell us otherwise". They then charged my credit card without my knowledge for $280. I only went to this gym one time 4 months ago from the date of this complaint. I haven't used their services and I called and filled out paperwork to cancel 4 months ago. What I have learned from their customer service since is there is no way to cancel it without a doctors note that you have to mail to them physically. Otherwise they will only "freeze" your account for some time and then continue billing you. This was not explained to me at all when I signed up (and who would sign up if they knew those terms?). Before I start I WOULD RECCOMEND YOU FIND ANOTHER ..ANY OTHER.. MARTIAL ARTS GYM to support if you want to avoid scams & low morales! Mavel Sid Milian is the main perpetrator of the inconsideration and low ethics. Beware of her and owner ! I came to this gym in high anticipation of training at this and grasping another martial arts form. At the onset I was impressed by the facilities and the silver Tounge wording of the owner and agent who signed me up. They seemed personable and amenable to helping with customers situation. (I am in the Govt and have to travel often, Which would impede my ability to maintain membership days.. but they said they could be hospitable to this fact). To my terror I found out that many of the rules, promised considerations to customers, and buisness ethic where lacking if existent at all. This became no more evident than when the unprecedented corona virus (COViD 19) struck. Instead of providing great customer consideration and stand on the right side of history, they compounded the COVID pandemic and its impact. I was under the impression that humanity would rise to the top of conscious in the midst of this health epidemic. To my chagrin this Buisness that once presented itself as the pinnacle of martial arts training in the area began taking advantage and engaging in unsavory practices. Particularly charging me for 8 weeks of fees while on mandatory stay home orders. Most companies where trying to help customers at this time, however krav mgra was getting over on them. They refused to let me cancel or freeze my account (even tho the owner specifically assured me that considerations could be made for extenuating circumstances) However as soon as real circumstance presented themselves, his words and the actions of the gym changed 180 degrees. They continued to change me ..and when I reached out they hide behind the contract and didn't answer emails in timely fashion (that was effectively null and void for this time period per the governors and attorney generals orders) Attorney General Frosh's orders: "All gyms, health clubs, fitness centers and self-defense schools in the state have been closed to the public since March 16 due to the COVID-19 crisis. Gov. Larry Hogan's stay-at-home executive order mandated that Marylanders stay at home and closed all non-essential businesses. A fitness center cannot require a member with a contract to accept an online fitness option during the closure in lieu of offering a contract extension or a refund. Clubs who are charging for optional online services must price those services according to their value, Frosh's office said. A fitness center's policies for billing members during a closure is governed by Section 14-12B-04 of the state's Health Club Services Act". Regardless and in the face of this documentation "Mavel Sid Milian" the person in charge of customer service accounts scofffed in my face and refused to escalate my claim to someone that could help as well as continue to site the need for a cancel/freeze form with a doctors note. When it is not necessary due specifically and only to the covid pandemic I have never felt so disrespected and scammed. Especially coming from an amicable stance, wanting nothing more than to train with the gym and support. This is a prime example of the crooked business ethics of krav mgra Md. Look guys. Contracts are part of training at a legit martial arts facility. I know it's hard but try to act like an adult, if you sign a contract, honor it. Now that I got that out of the way, Krav Maga Maryland is by far the best Krav in MD and arguably one of the best in the nation. I am a life long martial artist, former army combatives instructor, a combat veteran times two, I bounced for years, worked in a prison, I have been involved in MMA for years and still am. Let's just say I'm pretty well versed in the use of violence. I wouldn't recommend any other place to get self defense training in Maryland. Period. They have great instructors. They are professional and knowledgeable. The facility is clean. They offer a lot of classes and they will teach you the skills and more importantly the philosophies you need to learn in order to properly defend yourself and yours. After a while you will get the confidence to learn how to spar safety and responsibly and don't skip on it (Krav Maga people tend to hit a lot of pads and not a lot of people ... It's different. I joined Krav MD for the 6 week challenge and successfully lost 6.2% body fat and 8 pounds ! At first, I was nervous about the challenge but I found that there was no reason to be. All they ask for is that you put in the work and do your best. The members and coaches are like a big family. During one of my first workouts, I felt very tired and I wanted to quit. Then the entire class joined me for my last round of burpees and pushups after they already finished theirs. It was really encouraging having everyone cheer me on. My son has been taking lessons at this location for 3+ years and will soon graduate from youth to adult classes. He loves the program and instructors and plans to continue Krav as a lifetime sport and fitness activity. This location is clean and well managed and offers youth as well as a variety of adult classes including fitness, cross training, weights, etc. The youth instructors do a great job with kids of all ages and are truly dedicated to ensuring kids learn the same skills as adults, just at a slightly slower and less intense pace. As a parent, I appreciate that Krav teaches self defense, a skill I hope my son never needs but am glad he's learning. read more

I had heard of Krav Maga for a number of years. I heard it was an Isreali form of self-defense. But, I did not know much else. Now I have practiced a number of martial arts in the past and I figured why not try Krav. Krav Maga MD has several programs in addition to Krav. But, since I was only interested in Krav, that's the only program I tried. So, I showed up for my free trial lesson and I briefly talked to a member of the staff. After a brief talk, I entered the Level 1 class, which is the class in which everyone begins. The Krav program is pretty intense. Forget self-defense, the workout will have you dropping pounds and sweating like a teenage boy waiting on a pregnacy test result. Now as for self-defense, Krav is based on the body's natural responses and techniques from other martial arts. Krav is designed to be effective and easy to learn. Additionally, Krav is used by police and miltary forces around the world. So, I guess it must be effective. I enjoyed the work out and the facilities were clean and large. So, I decided to join Krav Maga MD. The cost is on par with other martial arts schools in the area, so you won't "break the bank" while learning to defend yourself. The fact that I joined, is probably the best recommendation I could offer. read more

First off, I have experienced other mixed martial arts programs. I don't consider myself an expert, but I have been in great programs and not so great programs. In learning the martial art form, I would say it's in the upper half. This facility is great and the instructors are helpful. I felt that it was more of a sink or swim type of approach, which is one of the best ways to learn instead of just kicking/punching air. I did get hit in the face at least once a class. I do want to say I felt it was more of a... fitness class which added some punches/kicks and then self-defense techniques. If I wanted more fitness, i would have signed up for their cross-fit. I did learn a bit, and I liked it. Why the 1-star review? The CONTRACT and approach how they get you in the class is ridiculous. The first time I came in, they said I'll come in for a free class. So I come in gym clothes and what do you know? I sat and talked about my goals for 20 mins while the class was going, and then walked in to watch a class for another 20 mins. Then the pricing and contract game out. Save $100 by depositing now, but you are going to be locked into a contract for so many months. The longer your contract, the less you will pay per month, and less your down payment. You can not cancel your contract! I started with the full intention of going, after about 1 month, my work schedule picked up immensely and this on top of my other workouts just was too much for me. There is no working around it! No ability to pause it and I wanted to get out of it as quickly as possible. Thankfully it was only half a year, but it was also $120 a month.... so my fault. Is it the gyms fault that my job got busier? No, but the wording of their contract makes it ridiculous that there is no wiggle room. Freezing can only be for financial hardship, injury or if you move. Not for ridiculous demanding work hours. Recommendations... Make sure you are committed to it. Don't just sign in, thinking you will go. I had a great first month, but I got pissed that the contract is one that locks you in. Check around the area, there are a lot of great facilities that will let you pay month to month. read more

I did enjoy my time here and felt like I learned some useful things. However, I dislike their level system. I got tired of learning the basics and feeling like I was in an aerobics class. Sure you can blame me for not taking their level tests, but Krav Maga was designed to teach people as many defenses fast as possible. There is no reason they can't mix it up. There is no reason you have to be a high level to learn gun and knife defenses. They don't do this because it means less money for them. That's why I really only attend their seminars anymore. I have never before written a poor Yelp review, but I feel compelled to warn others about the cancellation process. I submitted the paperwork to cancel my membership in early July 2018 after serving out the terms of my contract. I knew I would have to pay for July given the processing time, but my cancellation still has not been processed. Not only has my cancellation not been processed, but repeated calls and emails to member services have gone unanswered. I have called the front desk to have them try and get member services to contact me or move on my request, but so far that has not had any results yet. I don't understand how a business can get away with simply ignoring a request to cancel membership for over a month while then charging another additional months membership (with an increased rate no less). This is unacceptable business practice and seems dishonest. I would like to think it's just that the administrative processes here are be on par with other gyms in the area, but I just don't understand how member services could work this slow and ignore this many attempted contacts if it's not an attempt to take more money from canceling members. read more

This Krav Maga company has locations in Owings Mills, Columbia, and DC. I've been going for a few classes and it has been a great learning experience. Many of the moves are situational for self-defense, but you also learn how to punch and kick with effect. The classes rotate around selections of techniques per belt level. The class really depends on the specific instructor(s); the class can be an intensely good workout or mild, sometimes you have two instructors (usually happens in the Columbia location). You should call ahead to see if you can try out a class for free. Then, they give you contract options of 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years for unlimited classes. At the time I signed up, it was $199 signup/$129 monthly for 6 months, $149 signup/$109 monthly for 1 year, and $199 signup/$89 monthly for 2 years. Depending on the time of month, an instructor may give you a discount on the signup bonus. There are options to freeze your account with a doctor's note if you have an injury, and to cancel your contract if you move 25 miles away from your home location And the gym location. Approximately 32 or more hours of training and a minimum of 5 months at each belt level can get you a $29 tryout for the yellow belt. May be similar for higher levels as well. Columbia versus Owings Mill? If you sign a contract, you can train at BOTH and the DC location as well. However, the DC location folks can't train at the other two (because the contract is less $). Columbia is the headquarter location, thus usually has more students per class. Owings Mills is smaller, and has yoga classes that are a benefit. You have the option of pairing fight classes with the regular krav maga (but also have to pay more). Columbia also has youth training. The website has pdfs of all the class schedules for each location. I chose the 2 year contract and have been feeling like I've been getting my money's worth (although it is still expensive). This review is long overdue but I'm finally writing it. I would give it a 4.5 in reality but Yelp doesn't allow half stars. I trained at Krav Maga Maryland's Columbia location for about 5 months and absolutely loved it. I only stopped because I stopped working in the area so it was too far away to commute to. The gym also offers a number of sparring and heavy bag classes for higher levels as well as fitness classes for an extra price. I never took these so I can't speak to them. There are also a number of great seminars KMM puts on such as active shooter and women self defense classes. As for the basic Krav Maga classes--the classes and instructors are truly phenomenal. The instructors really take the time to help each student with the moves and making sure they understand how the move is applied. The fellow students were also helpful, non judgmental, and generally encouraging. The classes themselves are about 10-15 min of warm up, 15 min of punching and/or kicking drills, 15-20 min of self defense, and the last 15 min of class spent putting it all together. The only minor issue I ever had was that the price is a bit high. While the price for a basic unlimited Krav Maga contract (which is normal at most martial arts places) is on par for the area I didn't like that you had to pay extra for the fitness classes and any seminars. At the very least the seminars could have been discounted for members. Overall KMM is an amazing facility if you're interested in martial arts. I would still train there if I could! I attended Krav from 2007-2008 and loved it so so very much. I wish they were in DC also (the Krav gym in DC does not seem to live up to the one in Columbia). I practiced martial arts for 9 years as a kid and wanted to find something that would allow me to relearn some combative moves and be practical (no jumping spinning back kicks here). Krav Maga was perfect because there are no forms to remember... its like non-formal martial arts. Since I am a small person, I really liked that they told me "if it works for you, use it... if not, do something else." This idea really stuck with me and I think it's important when learning self defense. My favorite part about this gym was the fitness classes! They were all part of the membership and made me a gym junky. I would workout 2-3 hours somedays just because the instuctors made the fitness classes so much fun (yes, I realize how weird that sounds)!! The instructors are SO wonderful, in amazing shape, and it was really nice that they knew the name of every student. read more

Krav Maga Maryland (Columbia location) set me on a new course for fitness. I initially responded to a Facebook ad to participate in their 6-Week Challenge to see what it was about, and 6 weeks later, I lost 12 pounds (I'm High School weight!) and lowered my body fat from 18% to almost 12%. Let me try that again: From 18% TO ALMOST 12%!!! (And I saw others (Wayne, Jay) have even better results). The plan they lay out is simple to follow (3 meals and 2 protein shakes every day) and 3 or more workouts per week. (I did 5-6.). Every week I watched my stats improve, except week #2 when I cheated on the meals at a wedding and a steakhouse - even though I tried to be reasonable, preparing your own food makes a difference in calorie count (I found out later the 6 oz steak alone had 1,000 calories - I think they inject them with butter...). I had previously done the "Whole 30" food plan and lost weight, but doing a portion-controlled plan plus the workouts, I now know the net effect of burning off a 1,000 net calories/day, and that's powerful. Back to the gym: it has 3 workout rooms, including the Krav class room, the heavy bag room, and the conditioning (Crossfit-style) room. Class times are typically 5-8 pm on weekdays, a couple lunchtime and (not on the schedule) 6 am offerings. Saturday mornings are very popular. Everyone should know how to respond to an aggressor with the apropos force if needed, and you get that here. But you also get the conditioning, and, encouragement from the staff, coaching if you ask, and no judgements of where you are. There were ALL body types participating, everyone gives it their all in classes. My only criticism is the lack of discernment in musical selections. There is a LOT of "motivating" music available without cursing or being degrading to women; I think the gym's playlists could easily be redone. (Add some Skillet!) Finally, when I was done with the 6-weeks, there was no high-pressure schtick to join - that was left up to me to do no now or in the future. I've been a member of this gym since May of 2016, and I can say with confidence that this martial arts gym is a very customer friendly business which provides quality training. My past experience with martial arts gyms is that they were more oriented on making more money, so they promote just about anyone who paid to test and got pushed through. Here, before testing a "pre-test" is required before the instructors will sign off on permission to test. In my opinion, I'm getting good quality of training which prepares me for a verity of dangerous situations that might arise. As far as pricing goes, even with the Functional Fitness package and unlimited amount of classes, it's cheaper than any gym I've been a part of that provides instruction. Testing is also very cheap compared to my previous martial arts gym. A contract is required, but the team is flexible and works with the athletes to accommodate unforeseen life situations. read more

I really like going to Krav Maga Maryland. I am actually in the process of cancelling do to a new job... and it is a total bummer! The first day of class I not only learned how to break a choke hold, I actually had practice at doing so! I have felt more confident every time I went. Their schedule is pretty open so there are many different times in which you can attend. They offer special workshops (a good way to get a taste without totally "buying in") which are very well run. I have recommended several of these to various folks I know. There is a contract. I am not fond of the contract but at the same time running a place like this isn't cheap. I talked with my partner before I ever stepped through the door as to what I could, and couldn't, afford and had that number with me. I have read some of the other comments and I have not experienced the rudeness that others have. Everyone was very professional and helpful. I asked for advice on what to do (physically) outside of class that would help me while in class. All I received was great feedback and advice. Overall the only negative aspect was the contract, but I am an adult and thus I read everything before I signed and was comfortable doing so. In looking at other martial arts locations before, and at some gyms now with my partner, I fully realize there is a contract (or something very similar) to all of them. If you don't want a contract the only place I have found are local rec centers. I am very comfortable giving Krav Maga Maryland 5 stars AND recommending it to other people AND (if I am able to) returning to train there again. read more

Do NOT get involved with these people. Their unprofessional approach to training, the contract, and the attitude in general is unbelievable. I was trained in Uchuno Shorin-Ryu for 7 years...a very respected Japanese martial art. I was inducted into the USMAA hall of fame for my proficiency in competitive sparring, and I was an assistant instructor...very proficient in both competitive sparring and self-defense. When I began my training at Krav Maga (after mistakenly signing a 1 year contract, more on that later) I was told that my stance was wrong, my technique for striking was wrong, and my approach to self-defense technique was wrong. This is glorified cardio/cross training. They charge an exorbitant amount for poor training, and do not teach basic elements of martial arts. Instead, they teach a brand of martial arts based on brutal thuggery, instead of the respect, history, and self-control that comes with REAL martial arts. These guys are certified to teach for some reason, but in my opinion are not qualified to do so. There is no respect for other martial art backgrounds, and most of the other students are rude, selfish, and ill-equipped to deal with real life situations. Finally, the billing issue. I attempted to sever my relationship with the institution after my full year of the contract was up. I paid for these months even though I had no intention of ever going back after six months of training. They managed to finagle 4 additional months of fees, $109 per month, a total of $436, due to ridiculous minor stipulations in their contract about "30 day processing periods" and a myriad of other nonsensical contract speak designed to get as much money out of you as possible. Worst purchase I have ever made, and 100% not worth the trouble. If you want to be charged $1300 dollars for a year of being yelled at by meat head gym rats who have little real martial arts experience, then look no further! If you're just looking to get in shape, get a membership to planet fitness for a tenth of the price and stay away from these people. You will regret it, and your bank account will as well. read more

My review is directed specifically to parents. I think the training for kids is good- frankly I wish my kids would have liked it more. But the administrative elements of this business make this a company I would not recommend to parents who have busy lives. We were excited to enroll our two boys into Krav Maga, and at first they enjoyed the training. When we opted to engage the 'hold' option which was an important element of our signing up, we were informed of their unusually inflexible billing cycle- which is the primary reason I'm writing this review. It is hard to explain the billing cycle, and I'm not sure I fully understand it. What I've been told (repeatedly) is that your first billing occurs after you attend a month. So depending on when you start, it could be up to 30 days later that you get billed. Importantly if you want to hold or end your membership- you have to give at least 30 days of notice. This seems straightforward- but in practice we twice ran into issues with it. I think part of my concern is that we got memberships for our pre-teen and teenage boys. Like most parents of children these ages, we have a lot going on between work and other extracurricular activities. I found their trainers and people to be good folk who enjoy what they do. The training, as I wrote before, I believe to be relevant and solid in principle. However, our boys ultimately found the curriculum too repetitive and they lost interest. We eventually fulfilled our contract time and requested to end the contract by going to the administrative support within the gym. That, however, is not sufficient. You must log in and document your request through online form. Life interfered between the time we approached a real-life person, and instead of paying for just 30 days we ended up not using- it turned into 60. When you factor in how expensive the training (and equipment) is, paid membership without use (especially for two kids) gets pricey. I asked to see if any accommodation could be made. Instead of just answering that per the contractual agreement (which I recognize were the terms we agreed to) there would be no accommodation, the membership person instead spent a good bit of time demonstrating empathy, but no flexibility. And that was more frustrating than just getting a straightforward answer. Bottom line: I don't recommend Krav. Though they enjoyed it at first, our kids found the training to be unduly repetitive. In addition to the high cost of training, equipment, and inflexibility of the administrative team, their business model is a poor fit for a family that has more than one thing going on (and isn't extremely affluent). read more

The facility is nice and the instructors are GREAT. However, their contract is a death sentence. You either need to die or move far away to get out of it. When the government shut down last year and I lost my job, KMMD would only freeze my contract. Now unfrozen and still cant afford to pay them, they think they are more important than my mortgage. Id look for a place with a better contract and a place that doesnt spam your email with constant pro-store sales. read more

Be careful when processing a cancellation request. I cancelled with a 30 day notice, as per their retirement; but they didn't process the cancellation the day I submitted it. They took my money and refused to let me attend the classes for the last month I paid for. I advise you demand a receipt when you hand in your cancellation letter so that you have proof of your cancellation when disputing the charge. I trusted that the company was honest enough to process my cancellation the day I submitted my letter, but they were not. Because I had no "proof" that I submitted my cancellation letter on the day that I did, I was charged for a full month of classes that I was not allowed to use. read more

In today's society you never know when you need to react quickly to a threat whether against you or someone you may or may not know. Krav Maga MD not only trains you to be physically ready but mentally confident in your ability to defend yourself. The training you will receive is not just for individuals who are physically fit but all shapes and sizes. I have even had the chance to train with people who were bound to wheelchairs and it is amazing to see how Krav training can help anyone who has the mindset that they will not go down without a fight. If you are looking for practical real world senerio self defense. You have to come to a class I promise you it will change your life...and as far as the other posts concerning a contract if you pay monthly for something you only have to use one time that saves or protects you. Great aggressive, violent, stress inducing training so you can keep yourself safe in the real world. My training at this school has helped me keep myself safe multiple times in several dire scenarios. 5 stars. Many people don't get in cruddy situations like fights and being mugged that often but si vis pacem para bellum. Knowing that you can effectively make war even while unarmed has other great effects like confidence in every day life and knowledge that you can endure duress. Keep the training hard and brutal. These guys are great. Instructors are knowledgeable, and aware of what is going on in the room. I've been frustrated in class only to have the instructor come to me after to talk about it and help work out solutions. I had a serious injury requiring surgery and they have been great working with me through my recovery. I get stronger every time I go. For those who complain about the contract--we ALL sign a contract. If you want to train there, that is just what you do. I absolutely love training here and the staff are pesonable and supportive! I was terrified about trying something like this and had many reservations and fears. Elisabeth was wonderful at listening to my fears and concerns and answering all my questions and helping me to feel comfortable. With her help I was very confident in my desicion to train not only in Krav Maga, but especially at their facility. The staff are very knowledgable and supportive and the training is excellent and the workout is incredible. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I've been several times now, and I feel very relaxing being there, like I am surrounded by friends I have known for some time. The facility is top notch, very clean, very professional. I can't stress enough to you about how great the staff is. This is not like traditional Martial Arts, it's not supposed to be pretty, or even honorable. It's self-defense for the real world. They'll teach you how to deal with a threat, or multiple threats - You'll also get in shape at the same time. Out of shape? No problem, they work with you, and you'll feel great. They do have a contract to sign, like most places that teach self-defense. If you are not sure you will like it, I suggest you go month to month until you decide. Me? Going into this challenge I knew I'd have to work hard. I've hid behind baggy clothes my entire life and I always knew I wanted to change my lifestyle. I always found excuse to push it off and then I saw the ad on Facebook for the 6 week challenge. I miraculously convinced myself to try it. I told myself and if I am successful in this challenge (20 lbs or 5% body fat) that means that I really can change my lifestyle. It's not impossible! So thank you for being being super kind and supportive. The entire staff was so nice and accommodating (tweaking workouts so that I could participate. I can't do push-ups but there was always another way in which I could successfully complete a workout). The support I received from everyone was amazing and I've made new friends through this program. I'm probably gonna to be friend with these people for a really long time. The classes were intense but FUN! The hour flew by each time and I always felt amazing after the workout. The hardest part was probably the diet. I've never been on any type of diet before. I'm the type of person that LOVES snacks. I'm constantly snacking and getting sugary drinks. To quit cold turkey was definetly challenging but oh so worth it. Also, I've proved to myself that I CAN go long periods without snacking. It's not impossible. I CAN DO IT! I'm from a brown family where we eat roti, naan, curry, everything drenched in oil everyday. I'm not going to lie, I felt like cheating on the diet sometimes (come on, who can resist biryani) but I always stopped myself. I went ahead and cooked my OWN meals (after working 9 hour shifts and gym for an hour) separate from the fam. I watched my family eat the delicious meals while I ate my salad with chicken. It was hard but I knew I had a goal in mind. I am super proud of my accomplishmen and I owe it all to the Krav Maga family. I could not have done with without their support and encouragement.
