Looking for crispy flavorful juicy chicken? Have no fear, CM Chicken is there... nestled right near…read morethe corner of Bloomfield Ave and Park St in the beautiful town of Montclair, if you head down just two flights of steps you will find yourself at CM Chicken. It can be easy to miss since it's on the lower level. The restaurant is chill, basic, several tables and chairs, menu on the wall... the logo and two tvs ...all the things needed to eat chicken in peace. Although the restaurant itself is nothing to write home about, but THE CHICKEN is delicious. I went on a Sunday afternoon and there was no one down there so I was instantly greeted by an older Asian man. He took my order and welcomed me to grab a seat and in about 15 minutes out came deliciousness. I ordered the garlic soy wings and mozzarella sticks (idk why I did) ... Listen we won't focus on the mozzarella sticks, let's focus on the Chicken. I took my order to go and when I got to finally eat it, the chicken was still hot and crispy even after about 30mins went by from the time I left the restaurant. The sweet/savory and spicy flavor definitely had me wanting more! I will be back for sure!

It has a generous amount of fish cakes and cabbage. The wings were made to order and came out very crispy and hot. The place is clean and has plenty of tables. Music could be a bit too loud but overall vibe is nice. The staff there is very nice and service is fast.

First time here and they did NOT disappoint!!!…read more I got the 2 piece dark meat chicken with a side and cornbread ...went with potato salad and added some candied yams on the side. Everything was sooo good, no complaints at all! The food was on point and the place itself was nice, clean, and had a really cute vibe. Definitely coming back!!!

Cornbread falls into that cafeteria-style category for me. We went on a Friday night and the restaurant was completely empty. I ordered the three-piece fried chicken with potato salad and cabbage. My friend had the oxtail with yams and collard greens. The fried chicken was flavorful and tasty, though I could tell it wasn't freshly fried--barely warm and not crispy, again, cafeteria style. The potato salad was really good and probably the highlight of my meal. The cabbage, however, had more onions and peppers than cabbage, which wasn't great. The cornbread itself was delicious but barely warm. I imagine it's really good straight out of the oven, but that's not what we were served. My friend did enjoy the oxtail. The collard greens were sweet but still good, and the yams were pretty decent. We ordered a peach cobbler to go because it sounded good, but once I got home it was very disappointing. The dough was barely cooked, and I could still see flour. If I had eaten it at the restaurant, I definitely would've sent it back. Service was great. The staff was friendly, we ordered at the counter, and they brought the food to our table. The space is small but has just enough seating. We were lucky to find on-street parking since we went late on a Friday night. They accept cash and all major credit cards. One small note: there are no bottled hot sauces, just small no-name packets, which weren't the best. We also had the sweet tea, which had a strange flavor--possibly honey--but it wasn't what I expected and I was no where near impressed. If you're expecting southern sweet tea, that's not what they have here. Pricing felt a little high for what's offered. Two dinners, two iced teas, and a very small peach cobbler to go cost us almost $70! Overall, decent food and friendly service, but for the price, I expected more of that true home-cooked soul food experience.
