We thought we would try out a new pho restaurant, and while the flavors of our meal were very good,…read morewe're not sure that we would return. We did enjoy the shrimp, spring rolls, but were slightly disappointed that the peanut sauce was very watery. The menu had a good variety, but most of the dishes involved pork, very few involved chicken. Tofu dishes were also an option. The chicken pad Thai was very tasty; rather than cooking the dish to a persons heat specification, they just provide extra chili powder on the plate if you wanted to make it spicier. The main reason for the low review would be the cleanliness of the restaurant. On the table were a variety of spices and sauces in various containers, but they didn't look like they had been cleaned or changed in several uses, so we did not use or investigate to know exactly what things were.

When you walk in, the place is relatively quiet, but there's an unmistakeable smell that reminds me of vomit that lingers in the whole restaurant. I think it may actually be the varnish on the wooden tables, but it's everywhere and overwhelming. The spring rolls were fine, and the pho was relatively well seasoned and they were quite generous with the meat. I would continue to get take out from here, but there are better pho places in town.

I got the beef pho my husband got the beef Bulgogi. The pho is delicious massive portions with amazing flavor, perfectly cooked noodles and delicious tender cuts of meat. I feel like most people are coming here for the pho. I tried his Bulgogi. It was just as delicious very tender. You can definitely taste all of the flavors in it. It came with rice and some kimchi. Also cooked perfectly, and the kimchi was punchy and crunchy. Every other time that we have visited here, we have gotten the pho. I've also tried the chicken. It's just as a delicious. I know this place has won some awards for its food and I can see why. I did recently try some crab Rangoon's. They were delicious as well not too greasy just the perfect crunch and flavor I come here about twice a month and I will continue to do that because the quality and the price is perfect.

I am glad that they have chili oil very easily with access. The broth is okay. The veggies for the pho were fresh and the portion size for a medium is huge. Overall, good value for money, but under par in terms of taste. There's a lot of easy places to sit. The place is pretty bustling, and it's super easy to place an order. The staff is lovely, tables are cleaned. Parking lot is easy too. I just wish I could have enjoyed the food more.

I…read morehave been craving it ever since and for my birthday lunch this week I drove across the metro to this Lao restaurant to satisfy my craving. Khop Jai Der is a very small place with tables crowded together that made it difficult to navigate with my current and temporary situation of using crutches. I ordered the Papaya Salad and asked for moderate spice level. What I received looked nothing like my last fantastic salad. Very little sauce, a skimpy amount of papaya, pieces of cabbage that were way too large and a spice level that was way over-board. The female that brought my dish ignored me for the rest of my lunch even though she was sitting at the table next to me talking to her friends. I never got a water refill that I desperately needed and had to get up and maneuver my way to the restroom for napkins after deleting the two at the table because of severe sinus drain. I finally took 70% of my meal to the register and asked for a to-go box. I showed my Hmong co-worker the next day and he agreed that this was not the place to get what I craved. He brought me a homemade bowl of the greatest papaya salad for my lunch today so I finally did find redemption, but it wasn't from KJD. With an almost inedible $20+ lunch, inadequate and dismissive service while my digestive tract was on fire and a claustrophobic environment, I can't find a reason to recommend this place. The biggest let down that I've had in a very long time.

They were crisp and well stuffed, accompanied by a nice thick chili paste and soy sauce. I had the Pad Kua Mee - thick noodles, bean sprouts and scallions with a lovely sauce with just a hint of sweetness. The mango sticky rice was amazing and I would come back just for it! A wonderful little spot!

I usually come here for dim sum, and it is upsetting for me to say that my husband and I should've chose somewhere else to eat for dinner. For dinner, we ordered fried rice and chow fun. Those two main entrées were okay. You can't really mess up those two fillers at an Asian restaurant. We ordered scallion pancakes- they came out soggy and soft. Not even crispy like how they usually are. The flavor wasn't there either. If I wanted microwaved scallion pancakes, then I would've bought them from the store and made them myself. My husband ordered the short ribs- they were bland and tough like rubber. It had a funky taste to it that he couldn't describe and he had to force himself to swallow it because he didn't want food to go to waste. I ordered the chicken feet- this is one of dim sum's signature dishes and I am so upset I didn't even get to enjoy one of the dishes I always order. It was dry and the flavor wasn't there. The service was fantastic. They checked in on us and made sure our water was filled. The timing of the food coming in and out was fine. The ambiance was inviting. There was a sense of urgency and I appreciated that.

Our server was very kind and attentive, but one thing to keep in mind is that the servers earn commission, so they may be more likely to recommend menu items regardless of their personal opinion. For starters, we ordered the Crispy Chicken Egg Rolls. They were okay, but I probably wouldn't order them again. Most of what I tasted was the glass noodles, and the other flavors didn't stand out much. For my entree, I got the Combo Pad Kee Mow with shrimp and beef at a medium spice level. The spice was perfect. The noodles were cooked just right, the beef was tender, the shrimp was fresh and plump, and the vegetables complemented everything well. The sauce tied it all together with a nice touch of sweetness. I would definitely recommend this dish. My friend ordered the Lump Crab Fried Rice and added shrimp. She let me try some, and it was incredible. The flavors were vibrant, fresh, and balanced. The only downside is the price, as the crab adds quite a bit to the cost, but the quality was there and you could tell it was fresh. Overall, Bamboo Penny's delivered a great dining experience. Between the beautiful atmosphere and the quality of the entrees, it's definitely a place I'd return to.

We got Vietnamese iced coffees, crab rangoons, spring rolls, and pho. The pho I had was rich in flavor for the broth. You can tell it was boiled for awhile. The noodles were cooked perfectly! Their peanut sauce that went with the spring rolls was thicker than the places that I am used to. The staff was doing the best they could to keep up with the crowd, and everyone was friendly and courteous. The food was good overall. They accidentally forgot our sweet potato dish, but with how busy they were, we decided not to wait any longer. The cà phê sữa đá was excellent--the balance of strong coffee and sweet condensed milk was just right. The bánh mì was decent as well. The bread was perfectly toasted and had a nice crust, though I do wish it had a little more meat. Overall, it was a good lunch experience. I think I'd come back after the crowds settle down a bit so we can try more of the menu at a more relaxed pace.
