The first person who tried waiting on us didn't know the various fillings that were used (not all were marked) and couldn't be understood when she tried to answer. I wanted to try the kolaches in KC and this was the closest one to my hotel. The server was really nice and patient with me. He gave good recommendations! The inside was clean and bright which is nice. The flavour was pretty good, unfortunately, I didn't get to try them while they were warm and fresh so maybe that made my experience not as great. I absolutely loved this place! First time trying it and I have nothing to say besides you should probably visit. They have many different seating options ranging from a bench, couch, hightop, bar, and regular table. They offer different flavor kolaches for every style whether you want breakfast or lunch, spice or not. They have fruit open kolaches which were amazing and not too sweet but not plain at all. I tried a little of each but all were breakfast ones and the German and Mexican were my favorite, super savory and good flavor. The rest were mainly egg-y and just not my cup of tea. I also tried their iced chai made with a dulce de leche syrup which was really good, I did add two sugars because it was slightly plain at first. Also tried their blue (hibiscus matcha) which was the same needing some sugar to actually get the flavor but still really good and not a flavor of matcha you see all the time. Staff was super patient as we looked at the menu and they have a Sunday family deal where you buy 5 and get 2 free. Got there around 9:30 and there was hardly anyone there. Love this place! I learned about them through Yelp and loved it so had to come back and write a review. This time I had the Mexican and Veggie kolaches and a chai latte. It's hard for me to imagine not getting the Mexican every time. Nice spice level from the chorizo and great flavor. The kolaches here taste so fresh, perfect temp. They also have a great selection; likely something for everyone. My first time was around 7am on a weekday. It wasn't at all busy at that time. This place is really cute. The closed kolaches are killer. The dough is soft and chewy. I tried the Mexican and the Texan at the shop. They warm them in the store and it is perfect. Each comes marked with letters that are also on the menu so you can tell each one apart. Both were just what I wanted. The Mexican was spicy and the Texan was a breakfast plate all packed inside. I took home a box full including a blueberry open kolache. Can't wait for the morning. Service is kind and gave great recommendation. This is the worse experience I have ever had in Overland Park. The food was dry and barely edible. Had the Mexican and oGhelio. We ordered a black coffee and a maccciato. After 15 minutes for the coffee , and I'm not kidding - our food was basically done, the macchiato had no caramel. And it was ordered with soy milk. My friend who never complains could t drink it and it didn't have soy milk in it. Went up to ask and they said that's the way they make it. She asked for some creamer or anything and he sent her back to the cashier to charge her for cream. We ended up drinking water. Absolutely no customer service at this location. Funny - she brought me here to show it off because she loves a different location and heard this was good. We will never be back. Oh. Enjoyed coming to check this place out the other day. The restaurant is not Columbian owned as someone erroneously mentioned. I got a chance to speak with the owner (in Spanish) and enjoyed learning a bit about him. We had a lot in common since he's from Mexico, and my Mother is from Mexico, with European ancestry, just like him. He also had friends visiting that day from Puebla, MX where my Mom is from and currently lives now. My mom's family is Spanish/Mexican and his is a mix of Spanish and Czechoslovakian background. The empanada and baked goods are made using his Czech grandmother's recipes, which I found fascinating. Empanadas are Spanish, but alas, internationally, we all get around and learn to make some great takes on good food ideas. What I enjoyed about the bakery area was how it reminds me of "las panaderias" in Mexico, because there you grab a tray and use tongs to pick out your bread. The only thing I wish he had had were "orejas de elefante" or palmers, as what we call them. I bought a tray of goodies, and froze some empanadas (which I will warn you they are spicy) and froze some muffins that did well just heating them up slightly in the oven. The only thing we can't rave about is the coffee. My husband and I are particular about brewed coffee, and what they served was Columbian coffee, but it just had a bitterness to it that we didn't care for. It was also a bit weak. This new pastry and coffee shop served up a delicious kolache at a reasonable price, with first rate service and an upscale dining area during my dine-in visit, but there was room for improvement. My hazelnut and cheese kolache ($3.00) was nicely sized and tasted great, with plenty of delicious cream cheese, tasty hazelnut and fresh, scrumptious pastry. It was one of the best pastries I've had in quite some time. I liked the spacious, upscale dining area but background music would have been a nice addition. I was also disappointed that a menu was not available. Their social media presence could also use improvement. They offer kolaches, empanadas, muffins and breakfast pastries made in-house, with crepes coming soon. They also offer Colombian coffee. Very nice. I would give this place 5 stars if the kolaches had been just a little hotter. The insides were luke warm and I just wanted them to be jot. Otherwise, everything was delicious!!! I got the jalapeno, cream cheese and bacon (H) and it was to die for. The Texan was great as well, but the open blueberry roll was maybe one of the best breakfast pastries I've had, no joke. The frosting was insane, so sweet and SO good. The coffee was fine, I actually ordered an iced latte and got a hot latte, but I drank a little of it and it was good. Killer Kolaches! A wide array of both savory and sweet varieties plus a ton of empanadas Kolaches and Coffee made me a lover of kolaches, which I'm not gonna lie I wasn't the biggest fan of before. My personal picks are the savory buns and the empanadas, and since it was my first time, I decided to try a pelathera of flavors. The only sweet one I chose was a blueberry one, which my partner enjoyed. Now, onto those hot buns! The CH was my personal favorite, and it was listed under the house specialty part of the menu- I can see why. The ancho pork was flavorful and moist it seemed to be cooked down with a chipotle red colored sauce. Overall, it hit all the right notes. The empanada had a delightfully crispy exterior that flaked away with each bite but still held its integrity. I can't wait to go back and try the Greek one with the spinach and feta. The tandoori flavored chicken was fragrant and didn't dry out inside the baked shell. The G and M were classic kolaches with an egg base and different proteins. The M stood for Mexican and had spicy chorizo and jalapeños in it. The G was the German one and tasted like a breakfast bun with the sausage and eggs. It was traditional, and I think anyone, even children, would enjoy this one. Every single bun I tried, I genuinely liked eating. The bread portion was squishy and fresh, and this wasn't the case at the past place I tried, so I can contest these are quality kolaches. Inside the shop there's a coffee shop like atmosphere where you can easily do work or gather in small groups. There's also some longer stand-up tables as well for seating. The interior is very clean, and the color scheme seems to be fresh white and light colors making it seem bright and inviting. The coffee I tried I would highly recommend. It was the horchata latte, and it was creamy, sweet, and cinnamony. The is a locally owned place and you can tell the family takes pride in what they do and they do it well. read more

What an amazing experience!? I came in mid morning on a Friday and while the cafe was pretty busy, I somehow missed the morning and afternoon rush! So luck. This meant that I was really able to chat with Gemma (Jemma? No idea on the spelling) and get her recommendations. She asked for my spice tolerance and I said medium. She then recommended the Mexican and boy, that heat lingers! It was so delicious though. I highly recommend it and the Chia latte! Probably one of the best I've had in KC. I also ordered 2 Sausage and Gravy kolache and a Bierock (giving all those quintessentially Midwestern vibes!) I took those over to my parents and they were thrilled. I was worried the gravy would be a piping hot mess, but it stayed in the bun nicely and just 15-20secs in the microwave was perfect! Next time I want to try their empanadas and the Pinole latte! What a great find! I only recently learned of this spot, and man, was I missing out?! Having lived many years near a Czech community in Central TX, I thought I knew all there was to know about kolaches. So, imagine my surprise to walk in to this place and find a kolache shop with a decidedly Latin American flair to the flavor choices and beverage options! Empanadas? Yes, please! Because it was Administrative Professionals Day, I bought an assortment of a couple dozen savory and sweet items for my office staff. Everything was DELICIOUS; to a person, my entire staff raved about all of it. And-- not only was the food great, but the folks who served me were DELIGHTFUL! I enjoyed the Mexican kolache and was thoroughly happy with my choice. I was also enamored with the "branded" letters on the savory foods... it made it so easy to know which items had what fillings. It's such a simple idea, and it made it fun for everyone at work when they were making their respective choices. In addition to the treats, I enjoyed a wonderful Americano.... A truly solid cup of java, served up in a bright and clean dining room with plenty of seating and tables for work or visiting with friends. As I chatted with the owners for a few minutes, I learned they have been open almost a year. If I read many of my reviews, you know how much I love a small, locally owned business, and this one is special! I wish them the best of luck and look forward to being a loyal customer. Fun new spot in OP! They have a wide variety of kolaches made fresh with all types of fillings (meats, cheeses, etc.). I guess we are not Kolaches people at all! We had tried the other Kolache place and did not go after the first time- but the place has survived for so many years; so I imagine it must be good! So we went to kolaches and coffee yesterday- I got the sweet one with chocolate and cream cheese- was pretty good! My husband had the empanada with the spinach and cheese- he liked it too! Majority meat options were pork which we don't eat- so we were limited in what we could try. They did have a couple of beef options though. Seems like is a family owned, so wish them the best!! There were 2 kids (probably family) at the counter- I have to say the older one was quite knowledgeable about everything. They were very sweet and efficient! Super delicious kolaches, bierocks, and emanadas. I also had a wonderful latte. The atmosphere is nice also. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because we didn't get our coffee for probably five minutes after we got our food, and our orders were mixed up, so I accidentally bit into my friend's kolache before we realized his was on my plate (with the rest of my order) and mine was on his plate (with the rest of his order). The location is very clean and nice. The stuffing in the Kolaches are not the greatest quality, cheap fillings. If they step up the quality and flavor of the meat inside the Kolaches I think they will do very well. I have had better Kolaches this place doesn't compare. read more

good variety of kolaches... we had the apricot, german, sausage & gravy, american, and mexican ones. the Mexican was the best one it had a nice heat to it. it's very modern casual inside, got a little tight in the two tables closest to the door haha but it gave me a reason to spark up a conversation with someone. overall great place, good food. read more
