Kriser's is a small pet shop, but it is packed full of everything you could need for your pet. They even do walk-in nail trims, which I found to be incredibly convenient. Renzo was really good with my nervous dog and did a great job at getting his nails short and even. I picked up a few treats for my dog that are hard to find elsewhere. I thought their loyalty program was also pretty robust. You earn lots of points and get rewarded with free product for repurchasing brands. I'll definitely be back to Kriser's! My dog loved sniffing around and picking out a few treats. It was a fun stop for the both of us. read more

We have a mini bernadoodle and been to groomers before where they had issues, however, Raphael has exceeded expectations. He not only is very nice and personable, our pup Domino has gotten the best groom by him since we got him. He is so soft and Raphael made sure his cut was exactly what we asked for. Just had my ragdoll groomed by Chloe- can't say enough positive about her! My cat is happy after the groom! Amazing! She explained everything, had a great rapport with my cat, did the best job grooming Melvy ever!!! Is the dog in the picture craving water or cool air?? We stopped here on a HOT day for cat food, and the AC was out!! The door was wide open. Kudos to the young woman working at the counter that day with the awesome upbeat attitude! We got a good deal on food from Primal, buy 3 get 1 free. Yesterday my 12ish year old rescued terrier got his hair cut. He is not a fan of this at all...the team and the groomer at Kriser were very patient with me and Dougie (my dog). They shared some tips on what to do beforehand and were so kind when we checked in. He came out looking great!!!! I highly recommend Kriser's. A few months ago I went in because my adopted 4-year old is getting more and more fearful of street noise. The staff at Kriser's are friendly and helpful. It's a convenient spot to pick up something if I need it immediately, but it's much more expensive than ordering online. They all carry some cute but expensive dog jackets (that aren't as warm or practical than Hurtta dog coats). I tend to order dog food from Chewy so I don't have to lug it home from the store. Was a little annoyed that an expensive CBD oil recommended to me didn't work and that some of the dog treats I purchased on promo were not rung up with the promo price, but I didn't check the receipt until it was a few weeks later. read more

Amazing place. My dog, King, a Pomeranian, couldn't get groomed ANYWHERE. Other groomers would always send him home because he was anxious and snippy. If a groomer would finish him he'd come home sad and anxious. At Kriser's, Tristen was our groomer and she loved on my doggie like he was her own. That's what helped his anxiety in my opinion. LOVE. I'm sure she utilized some other very official techniques but I saw LOVE. And my Kingie needs to be treated like a baby when he's afraid and she did! He came back home perkier, happier and sexier than he left. We felt a weight lifted when we found this place. King went 6 weeks ago and he's going back this Saturday! This place is so clean and has everything you need for your dogs. The workers here are so nice and friendly. I always come here to get raw frozen food for my dogs. If you sign up for their mailing list, they will send coupons to your email which makes it even cheaper. They have a grooming service too. The reason this place only gets 3 stars from me is because I placed an order online and requested a curbside pickup. When I got there, I couldn't find a parking so I called the store. The lady told me I had to find parking, get out of my car and walk all the way to the front door of the store to pick up my dog's food. That's not curbside pickup. When you offer curbside pickup at your business, you're allowing customers to buy from you online and then drive to your location (or "curb") to pick it up, without having to leave their car. read more

Many thanks to Gio who helped me get winter shoes for my visiting dog! We're having an arctic blast in Chicago so shoes are scarce. First, Gio helped me figure out sizing and availability on a phone call. This was my first time at Krisers, so I didn't know what to expect. I was concerned at first, because it's been a while since my cat (Kaname's) last wash and cut. Cris is amazing, she was able to shampoo, shave AND cut Kaname's nails with no problem. I will definitely be seeing Cris again. read more

Don't bother calling - they will turn you away regardless. I called to see if they had the ability to trim my two dog's nails. The gentleman put me on hold to ask. He cane back and asked when can I be there. I said in 20 minutes. He said come on. My husband showed up early and they said sorry we are too busy. He said but we called. They said best to try back tomorrow. Why tell us to come? Miscommunication or not we tried to do the right thing and call vs showing up unannounced and we were still turned away. TLDR: Don't groom your large dogs with Kriser's. I've been a big fan of Kriser's for years. My Newfoundland and I have been coming for food/baths since he was 4months. Recently however things have changed. His original groomer left (if you're reading this and it's you, send me your info we miss you) and it's been downhill since then. His last cut was a nightmare. I left specific instructions for the groomer that were never passed along and my Newfoundland now looks like a lab with a squirrel tail. Jokes aside this is an issue because Newfoundland's regulate body heat through their coats and this cut will create heat issues for him all summer. Also I was charged a crazy amount for various services related to his size but Kriser's did refund my money. The store manager suggested I find a new groomer since I was unhappy with the service rather than remedy the internal issues and groomer issues that led to the poor cut and assure me that our next service would be good. I see from reading the reviews that I'm not the first Newfie parent to have an issue. I would avoid if you have any large breed. read more

Whatever you do, do NOT bring your dog to be groomed here. I showed the girl a picture of exactly what I wanted-- a poodle cut with a little Afro & instead she made my dog look insane. He looked like he was shaved haphazardly. He left shaking and traumatized. She cut him way too low on his bum & shaved his tail to the point he had no hair besides a tuft on the tip of his tail. I have NEVER been to a groomer more incompetent. My poor baby is stuck with a hair cut that looks insane & he has no hair on his tail! I have a beautiful red cockapoo & right now he looks crazy. I can't believe they had the audacity to try to charge me $100 for a cut that is worthless. My dog looked 10X better before his appointment. BEWARE of groomer named Becky with the good hair. Had to finally write a review for Marco, a groomer at this Kriser's. I've been only using Marco to groom my senior Yorker Poo for years. He is caring and compassionate and really takes time to get to know each dog, their temperament and quirks. Chai is almost 18 and has just become too anxious to be groomed outside of home, but doing her nails at home is NOT an option. Marco was kind enough to suggest that he could still take care of her nails for me, if I would bring her in and hold her while he took care of them. He found a solution to a problem, without my even asking. He always remembered Chai and was able to make her comfortable, despite her anxiety. He's great and Kriser's is lucky to have him and anyone he needs an expert groomer, should request him. Just one 'fur mommy's' opinion. read more

Update to my original review: A regional manager (I believe - not 100% sure about the title), Monica, reached out to me and discussed the original issue that occurred. I'm pretty impressed with the fast reach out and the manager trying to address the issue - probably the best and fastest response that I have ever received for an issue. The manager found a grooming appointment, and my dog got an amazing haircut and service from Becky. Five stars for grooming and service that day; I'm leaving 4 stars only because of the inconveniences of the first occurrence. But otherwise, very impressed with fast response and resolving the issue. Very good management! Original review: COMPLETE INCOMPETENCE in grooming department. I scheduled a full grooming appointment with Francesca about 3-4 weeks in advance and basically based my whole holiday, Labor Day, on the need to be in the city for the appointment. I didn't not contact any other groomer in the meantime as I though that I was all set. Well, when I showed up - Francesca basically turned me down and said that she can only do partial/feet trim because someone made a mistake and should not have booked me for this time. I'm not sure if this is some type of scheme to get more money out of customers but I'm not sure why I have to pay for partial trim and then for another full trim. The front desk person offered me a discounted grooming but the soonest available time was 5-6 weeks in the future. So I already waited for 3-4 weeks and then now I need to wait another 5-6 weeks to get grooming for my dog who badly needs it? I am not opposed to mistakes, but the kicker is that someone called me the day before my appointment and confirmed that I have a grooming appointment. Anyways, I would avoid Kriser's grooming, and especially, Francesca if you don't want to be randomly refused a service even though it was their mistake to schedule me at the wrong time. Kriser's is fantastic! Their selection of natural treats is plentiful and their staff is always friendly. I always prefer taking my Airedale terrier to be groomed there. Christina was awesome, but she unfortunately left. I recently took my dog to Sabrina, and she did an excellent job. I'll definitely be returning, especially since my dog's had so many compliments on how great she looks. Kriser's isn't inexpensive, but it's not outrageous, and it's well worth it. read more

Most of the groomers in the south loop area, (even in the streeterville/river north area) charge around $50 for a full groom/bath/haircut for a 10lb toy poodle. A lot of groomers were booked right now weeks in advance so i took a chance with krisers in south loop because they had availability and they were rated high so i justified the $69 cost of the grooming appointment. I thought my baby would be in good hands. Marco was very nice, i was asked how I wanted my pet groomed and i told marco to shave my pet down and leave the hair on her ears alone and please leave hair on the tail. I get a text from Marco saying my pet was ready to be picked up and he had to cut her ears and tail because they were matted. When I seen my pet i wanted to cry. Marco showed me the matted hair he cut off against my wishes and i explained to marco, i asked you to leave her hair alone because i have a special comb specifically designed to remove matting. I was nice enough to leave marco a tip, but i will NOT go back there. When a customer tells you how they want their pet groomed, and they are paying $69, you don't go against their wishes, especially if you want their repeat business. I'm sorry but I can't recommend them to anyone. Besides the hair removal on the tail and ears just look at the awful grooming on my baby's face in the pics. read more

Our golden doodle, Grace had a traumatizing visit to Kriser's two weeks ago. We picked her up after her appointment and were told "If there are any medical bills from the vet, please contact us and we will pay for them." completely caught off guard, I followed up with some questioning where I was informed she got something in her eyes. Along the walk home, Grace could not open her eyes and was constantly scratching at them unable to walk. We immediately rushed her to the vet which was only a few blocks away, where they took her in the back room and informed us she had chemical burns in both her eyes which had caused ulcers. We were completely in shock, our first priority being Grace, we got eye drops and immediately took her home to rest. Our biggest issue with the way Kriser's handled the situation was that they did not immediately inform us of what happened to Grace. We acknowledge mistakes happen and if they had told us what happened and what got in her eyes we could have remedied the situation much quicker. They also should have called us immediately when the soap or whatever it was (still unknown, even though we were told multiple times they would let us know as soon as possible) got in her eyes, told us what happened and that she needs to be taken to the vet. Her visit there lasted from 9am to 2:30pm so she could have been there for hours unable to open her eyes, with them burning. Bottom line, we will never be taking her to Kriser's ever again and question the attention to detail the groomers (we had Julio) provide to animals. The good news is over the past two weeks Grace has been able to make a full recovery and her eyes have been able to fully heal, which was our main goal throughout this whole ordeal! read more

Our groomer, Jenn, is absolutely amazing. We recently adopted a rescue pup who had a very tough first three years of life. He struggled with fear aggression, and we were definitely apprehensive about bringing him to a groomer. However, Jenn did an incredible job! Our pup let her trim his nails, bathe him, and even blowdry him! We were so amazed and are so happy we found her. Also, the store overall is wonderful as well. I really like Kriser's on State Street. My pet and I are always greeted upon arrival. The grooming is awesome! I have had no issues with Kriser's on State Street. I also love their products. I think as a pet parent/owner, its great to shop around for deals. I love deals, but I mainly look for places that treat my pet , as their own. I am comfortable when i leave my pet here for services and the staff has made me feel welcome. Rude. Snotty self entitled employees. I've tried many times. I've tried different stores. They clearly don't enjoy their job at all. They refused to groom my dogs, didn't even try. They don't give details AT ALL to your questions. They don't take returns. They are difficult when you want to return food (like, duh, the bag was half empty when i bought it? don't you know this? i had to literally bring a bag from THEIR shelf to show them). I"m so over this place. It's too bad cause it's a nice store. I won't shop their EVER again. I finally found the perfect, trustworthy, caring groomer around. Marco is amazing. I have a huge Newfoundland names Max and I'm an overprotective dog mom that has super anxiety leaving the big guy anywhere. Leaving Max in the hands of Marco has eased all my fears. He is patient, eases the dog into grooming, gentle and gives an outstanding bath and hair cut. He listens to all my crazy demands and never lets me down. Max comes out beautiful and happy every time. I was a big fan of Kriser's in early 2018. It was always a friendly atmosphere where the employees showed interest in their patrons. My dog loves his groomer and would most likely won't change from that service. However, over the past 4 months something has changed. While I love the new layout of the store, no one there cares about our animals. Recently, I ran out of food for my dog and ran to get some. His food was not on the shelves and asked the associate if there was any more in stock. She looked up from the desk and shouted NO! Bewildered by the lack of empathy I tried to find a similar product by using an online search and calling my partner. The manager could have cared less as she was there and watched the entire exchange. Ironically, since I had to get a different flavor, it didn't qualify for my loyalty rewards program. It's very disappointing for what was a great place to bring my pup. 1.8.19: After a lengthy talk and a promise of a different atmosphere within our neighborhood pet shop, I've upgraded my initial review from 1 to 3 stars. I'm not the only one who has had the same concerns within our south loop neighborhood. The district manager assured me that he is working to provide the customer service that used to be a staple at this location. 2.4.19: Went back to Kriser's this past weekend to pick up more dog food. Again, was ignored and the attendant said they don't have a frequent buyer program. I've been a loyal customer because the program made sense. On this visit, the only words that were spoken to me was to ask me if I wanted to purchase a bag. I don't understand what is going on with this location. Cold and unfriendly. Had the worst grooming experience! I have a large breed dog, a Newfoundland. They allotted 4 hours of time to bathe and trim her. I got a call an hour in to the session noting that they would not be able to continue with the grooming because she kept trying to sit down (sorry, but this is a no brainer). It was also noted that they just "don't have enough time." Not sure how this would be an owners issues? Regardless, I got a call two hours in to the session saying I could pick my dog up - this leaves 2 hours to spare? I was charged a ridiculous amount for the finished product. In addition to this I asked if I could schedule a trim at a later date - was essentially told NO. The reasoning... because she was trying to sit and was panting. DO NOT recommend this place at all. There have to be better groomers in the city. PS - I've never had a grooming issue before. I was giving Kriser's a shot. Bad idea. read more

So, when Oxford decides he's going to puke up the food that I can afford, I have a vivid flashback to the time where I spent over $350 (including x-rays and a botched hair cut) for the vet to tell me, "He may just have become allergic to his food." Yikes. I didn't have a spare $350 laying around for a similar vet visit, so I decided that I'd try switching up his food first. So, chalking this up to allergies, and knowing that Ox went nutso for the wet (blech) food the awesome employee at the Belmont Kriser's had recommended, I had a good idea as to where I could find some acceptable food. Fortunate for me, the south loop Kriser's is a hop skip and an el ride from work so I trekked south a few blocks. A friendly employee quickly located my desired food (chosen from the several samples the other employee had given me) and helped me recall which wet food it was that made me unable to open my fridge without a mini-body slam at my ankles. Nearly $30 and 5 minutes later, I walked out, big bad in tow for my little guy. The food is pricey, yes, but if you have ever sleepily walked into your spare room to find your clothes and stepped in cat puke (MORE than once), you know it's worth it. Trust me. read more

Generally I have good experience at Kriser's, and the people are usually very friendly and knowledgeable. BUT. I had an awful experience there recently when I brought my cat to be groomed. The groomer, Christina gave me 7 pounds of attitude, like "Oh, I don't have time to fix all these mats with scissors, and oh, on a Saturday I won't have time to dry her, so I'm not bathing her." Is it my fault that the groomer didn't have time to dry a wet cat? I made an appointment. At some places, that means something. My cat was there for THREE HOURS and all this woman did was shave my cat. SHAVE her. She didn't even take the time to smooth her hands over the cat to remove all the bits of fluff stuck to her. I had to do that myself. I mentioned my dissatisfaction to the people behind the counter (Chad and Mina) and they were super nice. I said, if "on Saturdays" ther's no time to bathe a cat, someone should have made that clear to me whan I booked the appointment. They offered to let me bring the cat back to be bathed sometime during the week. They gave me my shaved cat ***without her collar or tags***, so I had to go back to Kriser's to get them. The groomer was confrontational and even *told me* that I hadn't specifically requested a bath. Excuse me? I didn't have a chance! She told me right away - no time, no bath. She said I could bring my cat back for a bath and she would ONLY charge me $25. This, after the other staff said I could have it for free. Think I'm going back to bathe my cat? She HAS NO HAIR LEFT!!!!!!!!! Bottom line, They should keep that groomer in the back, away from the customers. She was rude, unfriendly and not helpful. Even though I am sure Cesar Millan would highly disapprove, my dog, Jackson, is treated like an absolute king. So, getting him healthy, organic food from Kriser's is a must. Every person who works here has always been nothing but friendly and super helpful (even the one time that Jackson peed on a tablecloth in the front). They always dote on him and have his health in their best interest. Being a first time dog owner, they have suggested various foods (California Naturals) that would be right for his breed and temperament (i.e. very picky eater of dog food). Also, I think that their prices are fair compared to other dog stores, and the service you get here is remarkable. Jackson has gotten his nails trimmed here once before, and it is actually cheaper than most in the area ($8). Another great thing about this store is that if your dog hates the new dog food you bought, you can still return it if the bag is 3/4 full. I had to do this once, and they were nothing but helpful in this process! Another plus is the 15 minute *Free* parking right on the side of the store! read more
