I found this place on TikTok and looked up the location and we just drove straight to it. When we arrived I was confused because I expected a restaurant, but instead a food truck. Was I a little skeptical? Of course, I couldn't lie. Regardless, the reviews were great and their food looked amazing on TikTok. I ordered a #3, which came with 1/2 crab, 10 shrimp, 1 sausage, 1 egg, and 1 corn for $30. The seasoning I added was "lil kick" and Chili Limón. When we got back to our hotel, the food was still warm and I cannot say this enough... it was amazing. Absolutely 10/10. The crab was perfectly cooked and the seasoning was perfect. The shrimp came out so smooth and the potatoes were BOMB. I wish I took a picture before eating it all!

Was super excited to be able to get lobster... shouldn't have I know lobster is very difficult to cook. I've had a lot of different lobsters over the years and this is the first one that I was not able to even cut a piece off or chew it. It was so overcooked. The Lobster was beautiful, it was such a shame. Would've gave a five star rating if I could've ate the lobster plus it was really expensive and we only have one egg and one corn so who gets to eat it??? No for real who? lol

I know last time I got the clam chowder but hey, it was 102° outside! One thing that never ceases to amaze me is the cleanliness of the restaurant. It's wasn't too busy but the music was on the loud side. Maybe a touch lower please? The burrito was really nice. I thought that maybe my Mahi Mahi would be a little thicker? The fish seemed slim in comparison to the whole of the "Maines" entree. Jalapeño slices accompanied for some pizzazz. The sauce was flavorful and left no shortage of drips. I chose the side of fries. Perfectly made and absolutely screams fresh cut & fried. There's only one problem with them. They tasted fishy. That's because they fry them in the same fryer as the fish is fried. Not my kind of expectation with perfectly golden crisps. I would advise using a stand alone fryer for potatoes only please. Knox my server was very kind and hospitable & we enjoyed talking about the best hot sauce in the world which is found here, Belize's Marie Sharp's. That's a real winner to accompany your meal. Garbo's is classy but to get lobster which is what they're known for, you're going to have to pay for it. It was unfortunately a higher ticket item than I was willing to go for. Definitely improved in value from last time, thank you Garbo's. It's a nice place to dine & I hope to continue getting a superb value when I'm able to visit there again.

If you are from the Gulf Coast, you're likely to be unimpressed with The Bayou Shack in Round Rock…read more The service is great, but the execution of the menu is just okay. As Cajun/Creole transplants, we just had to give this place a try for Saturday lunch in November 2024. I suspect we'll stick with our other reliable sources for "a taste of home". If I lived nearby, I could see coming back for the cheap beer ($4 Dos XX at the time of purchase; with today's inflation & tariff talks, that price may not hold) and tavern ambiance, sticking to the pub-fare menu items. We always test a new Louisiana-inspired joint by 3 things: seafood boil, po-boy, and gumbo. By comparison, our longtime genre faves in the area that succeed on all 3 include Stuffed Cajun Meat Market, French Quarter Grille, Crawfish Shack, Deckhand Oyster Bar, and Cypress Grill. Right off the bat, the $7 cup of gumbo at Bayou Shack was a headshaker. Seasoning was weird, and it had a thick, gravy-like consistancy more like an etouffee. Strike 1. Next up, hub's $14 fried catfish poboy with Cajun spice-dusted fries. Nothing terrible here, but it was the typical not-in-LA poboy that tastes like a sandwich made by someone who does not eat poboys. Bread was a right-out-of-the-bag hoagie roll, not the crispy-on-the-outside, light-and-fluffy-on-the-inside Leidenheimer, Gendusa, or Langlinais-style, toasted french bread loaf that it should be. Strike 2. My $21 "Build Your Boil" half-pound "Bottom of the Bayou" flavor snow crab boil was pretty good, although I was offended to pay an extra $3 for the addition of a single red potato. The nicest part was the provision of proper boil-eating tools, including gloves, a bib, shell crackers, and crab leg pick, plus lemons and melted butter for dipping. I'll have to come back during crawfish season to see what I think of their offerings for that kind of boil, since the boil is where they seem to do best. Our waiter was wonderful but we didn't have the heart to tell him the truth when he asked what we thought of each dish. Our total for 3 meals at lunch before tip was $75, a bit over-the-top. $15 for chicken tenders and $5 for Sysco fries? Yikes!

We decided to sit at the bar and we were greeted immediately. The bartender is so nice and just always does such a great job. I've been here a few times and she's always been there with a smile, no matter how busy it is. We ordered drinks and a couple appetizers, the coconut shrimp and the buffalo shrimp. Nothing special, just fried shrimp. I also ordered the side of the hush puppies, I always get hush puppies if they're on the menu. They were good, small but good. He ordered the seafood soup, it's a large portion, red broth with lots of seafood and veggies. He liked it! I ordered the Salmon dish. Came with rice and steamed veggies. I couldn't eat it all because the salmon was way too well done and dry. :( Overall, fun and friendly environment!!! We ate lightly as we were heading to a dinner holiday party. The appetizers were absolutely delicious. I got to speak with Chef Manny and and Carina, the general manager to gain some insights about the business. Mexican Cocina is based on the cooking method and seasonings. The foods can be cooked over fire, oven or in the stove. Their unique value proposition is that you can choose your seafood from the case and the restaurant staff prepares the food to your liking. The restaurant is very large with different size rooms for rental. For large party rentals the spend minimum is $1000 and during the week it is $800. Such a nice find relatively close to home...definitely will return...

The bartender was very friendly and attentive to us but the food was very disappointing. We started with the ceviche tropical, which is consists of shrimp and fruit/veggies. It was very underseasoned and did not seem to be well marinated. Moreover, the dish had a fishiness to it that was a turnoff. The chips served with the ceviche had oil collecting on them (see photo). I've had good ceviche in the U.S. and Mexico and this was not it. The main entree was the Tacos Nayarit (fish tacos). The portions of fish were microscopic and also lacked flavor. The Spanish rice served on the side was the worst I've had in a restaurant. It was wet, old and gummy (see photo). The black beans didn't taste bad but they were superheated as if they were warmed in a microwave. Overall, the food was pretty horrible. So very sad as I was hoping to find a good Mexican seafood option in Austin. I was told that this restaurant is owned by the same folks that operate Casa Chapala, where I have had great experiences. Hopefully this place will improve over time.

Server was nice to share how backed up the restaurant was. I ordered the fried shrimp with flounder combo. I love how the fries have that beer batter exterior so it's extra crispy. The shrimp was great plum and juicy. I felt like the batter was a little too thick and the batter didn't have any flavor in it. The flounder was good, but the fish was dry. I wish for the price point. The fish was a little thick thicker in meat. It was slightly sweet white meat so that was good. The chicken wings honestly are really good. I was surprised how crispy and juicy the wings were. I love the Cajun flavor along with the lemon pepper. You can really taste both seasonings. Sadly... this wasn't that experience. I ordered the boil with a pound of crab, head‑on shrimp, squid, corn, and those thin little sausage slices you see at most Cajun spots. The seasoning landed squarely in the middle -- not offensive, not impressive, just sitting there like it was waiting for someone to give it direction. I asked for hot, but what I got tasted more like a medium that didn't want to commit. And the shrimp? Head‑on and not deveined. That gave them a gamy, muddy undertone that took away from the whole boil. At this price point, deveining shouldn't be a luxury add‑on. We also tried the appetizer sampler -- calamari, egg rolls, cheese sticks -- and everything tasted suspiciously similar, like it all took the same little swim in the same fryer without a break. Nothing was terrible, but nothing had personality. These were the kind of appetizers you can find anywhere, and not the kind you remember later. My partner ordered the shrimp po'boy, and while the portion was generous, the breading overwhelmed the shrimp. He ended up peeling most of it off just to get to the actual protein. When the breading becomes the main character, that's a sign the dish needs editing. Now, the mixed drinks? Those were actually good -- balanced, not overly sweet, and honestly the highlight of the meal. And I have to give credit where it's due: our waitress was attentive, friendly, and checked on us consistently without hovering. She did everything right. The food just didn't match her level of service. And look... I'm not trying to be dramatic, but I've had better crab at HEB during crawfish season for a fraction of the price. When your grocery‑store boil is hitting harder than the restaurant version, that's saying something. Overall, Surfing Crab wasn't a disaster, but it wasn't memorable either. For the price and the concept, I expected more depth, more spice, and more care in the prep. This one's a pass for me -- especially when I know I can get fresher, better‑seasoned seafood elsewhere without the premium price tag.
