Decided to try the restaurant out for my birthday. The atmosphere was loud and lively. The menu was full of a variety of seafood and the drinks menu was plentiful as well. I had made a reservation through Open Table that the staff either never saw or didn't read. We requested a booth and we were directed to high top tables. But, upon our request we were reseated. But, the evening was pleasant and we will recommend it as a fun option in Round Rock.

Located in Round Rock right off of I-35 in the Walmart shopping center was an establishment that said Cajun Crabs and Shrimp! I haven't had seafood in a while and although I didn't have much of an appetite I wanted to try the gumbo. Upon entering you could just smell the flavorful spices in the atmosphere! It was like the aroma grabbed and hugged my nostrils like a long lost cousin at a family reunion that I haven't seen in ages. I first ordered a starter which was 8 Diablo shrimps wrapped in bacon and came with ranch dressing. They were absolutely delicious! For a drink I ordered the New Orleans Hurricane which was pretty good it had a decent amount of alcohol mixture. The cherry in the drink gave it a little razzle dazzle appeal My main dish was the gumbo bowl that I believe came with sausage and shrimp. The gumbo was just Ok it was not very brag worthy. A bit more watered than I would have liked but it was still decent. The sausage had more of a hotdog taste to me. But did I eat it all? Yes! I would come back. They have so many options and all the other guests plates looked very appealing. Service was also great.

How I got here: TikTok brought me here with all of the karaoke posts! Karaoke/Drinks: I really came to see what karaoke was all about and karaoke was most definitely fun. The atmosphere was a good vibe. I would definitely come back for karaoke and drinks. The drinks were really good. Karaoke-5 stars Drinks-5 stars Food: Now the food wasn't good. The rice was dry, the gumbo didn't taste like gumbo. None of the food was good. Food-1.5 stars I'll come back for the karaoke and drinks, but not the food.

Food was amazing but idc how good your food is turn that damn a/c on why is it so humid and hot in this place, the air got more humid and dense as time passed I swear I was in a sauna. Again great food but will come again on a cooler day.

Couldn't be more pleased with finding this place while visiting the area and craving seafood. The vibes were great! The young man singing made the whole experience even better, he's so talented. Now, onto the food! So yummy, came out quick, well seasoned and not overly spicy. If you enjoy spice, whichever level you normally go for, go up to the next one. The staff was extremely nice and next time we're in town I'll be coming back.

It is never a dull moment when I visit here especially on Thursday for karaoke nights. The customer service is always phenomenal and the food is excellent. The snow crabs are half off per pound and they are so favorable. Anytime I want a seafood fix I come here. The restaurant is clean and I enjoy the unique decor as well. They have a fake alligator towards the bathroom (which is clean). The DJ is funny and doesn't mind getting the night started by jumping on the mic himself. If you're looking for great food and a good time please come check this place out!

Hubby and I wanted seafood and we decided on this place. Excellent choice. The seafood boil bags are market price so be ready. The prices are located on a chalkboard near the restrooms as they are not on the menu. It's more of a sports bar but is also family friendly. The service was fast and the servers were attentive.

As a creole woman in Austin, it's hard to find authentic Cajun creole food. After reading the reviews for this place I thought I'd give it a try. The reviews are extremely deceitful! I asked the waitress if possible could I taste a small crawfish to ensure it was to my liking before I committed to buying a pound. She said no and that's not a problem it's just some restaurants let you when you're particular about your crawfish. Needless to say I was very disappointed but at the same time I expected it. Absolutely no seasoning! They literally boil the crawfish and put it in a bag with loads of butter, garlic and maybe a splash of salt, shake it up & boom that's your crawfish. SMH AUSTIN THIS IS MOT HOW YOU DO IT! If you're gonna appropriate the culture you should get the food right. Speaking of culture, you'd think that the ambiance of the restaurant would exude Louisiana greatness from decor to its staff knowledge of the food. Well, I was wrong. There was Hispanic music playing and 100% of the staff was also Hispanic. It's truly important to individuals like myself who hold cultural values tightly, that if our food is being made please do your research on how to properly prepare it and educate your staff of the cuisine.

A friend and I recently had a great lunch at Louisiana Longhorn Cafe. It was our first time there,…read morebut since I previously enjoyed appetizer samples at a Round Rock event I thought the food would be good. We seated ourselves and got menus immediately. Drink orders came soon after. We ordered a fried oyster po boy (which came with fries) and a 2 Taceaux plate (which came with fries and a 2nd side. I chose fried okra.) We finished it off with an order of beignets. The po boy came with 8 nicely-sized (and, importantly, fresh) oysters and a large portion of seasoned shoestring fries. My 2 blackened shrimp tacos were very tasty. The fries tasted good, but weren't at all crispy. The okra tasted good but was lukewarm. The beignets tasted good but were the consistency of a donut rather than being light and airy. The menu is quite extensive, and we had a tough time choosing what to order. I saw a large bowl of gumbo at an adjacent table, and that almost made me choose gumbo for my entrée. The eating area has a kitchsy decor fitting of the food genre. Seating was comfortable and service was excellent. This was a great experience that made me want to return for dinner next time, maybe during happy hour so I can order one of their great appetizers. We will be back before very long.

If you are from the Gulf Coast, you're likely to be unimpressed with The Bayou Shack in Round Rock…read more The service is great, but the execution of the menu is just okay. As Cajun/Creole transplants, we just had to give this place a try for Saturday lunch in November 2024. I suspect we'll stick with our other reliable sources for "a taste of home". If I lived nearby, I could see coming back for the cheap beer ($4 Dos XX at the time of purchase; with today's inflation & tariff talks, that price may not hold) and tavern ambiance, sticking to the pub-fare menu items. We always test a new Louisiana-inspired joint by 3 things: seafood boil, po-boy, and gumbo. By comparison, our longtime genre faves in the area that succeed on all 3 include Stuffed Cajun Meat Market, French Quarter Grille, Crawfish Shack, Deckhand Oyster Bar, and Cypress Grill. Right off the bat, the $7 cup of gumbo at Bayou Shack was a headshaker. Seasoning was weird, and it had a thick, gravy-like consistancy more like an etouffee. Strike 1. Next up, hub's $14 fried catfish poboy with Cajun spice-dusted fries. Nothing terrible here, but it was the typical not-in-LA poboy that tastes like a sandwich made by someone who does not eat poboys. Bread was a right-out-of-the-bag hoagie roll, not the crispy-on-the-outside, light-and-fluffy-on-the-inside Leidenheimer, Gendusa, or Langlinais-style, toasted french bread loaf that it should be. Strike 2. My $21 "Build Your Boil" half-pound "Bottom of the Bayou" flavor snow crab boil was pretty good, although I was offended to pay an extra $3 for the addition of a single red potato. The nicest part was the provision of proper boil-eating tools, including gloves, a bib, shell crackers, and crab leg pick, plus lemons and melted butter for dipping. I'll have to come back during crawfish season to see what I think of their offerings for that kind of boil, since the boil is where they seem to do best. Our waiter was wonderful but we didn't have the heart to tell him the truth when he asked what we thought of each dish. Our total for 3 meals at lunch before tip was $75, a bit over-the-top. $15 for chicken tenders and $5 for Sysco fries? Yikes!

As a family-owned restaurant, it has a welcoming, community feel and when the DJ gets going on weekends or R&B/Soul nights on Fridays, the place really comes alive. It's definitely a go-to for celebrations, birthdays, or a fun night out with friends. The seafood dishes deliver on that authentic Cajun flavor, seasoned well and satisfying for anyone craving Southern comfort food with a kick. That said, the atmosphere can be a bit much depending on what you're looking for. The music gets very loud - great for the vibe, but not ideal if you're trying to have a conversation across the table. Service can also be quite slow, especially during peak times, so patience is key. Overall, Down South Cajun Eats is perfect if you're in the mood for flavorful seafood and a party-like environment - but maybe not the best pick for a quiet dinner.

It includes Grits, eggs, bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes with your choice of waffles or French toast. This is a LOT of food for the price. Everything was also very well seasoned. I didnt need syrup on my waffle or any butter/sugar (yes I'm that girl) in my grits. I left very satisfied and would go for their brunch every weekend if I could.
