For some reason, they never have enough carts for shoppers. They need to order some new ones in. The self checkout is usually only 30% working. Which leads to crazy long lines and longer waits. There's only 2 regular cashiers, and those lines are long as well. Not to mention self check out only takes card. Wouldn't recommend. read more

Clicklist was fast tonight! I got most of my items and was able to substitute 2 items before picking up my order. HOWEVER, I had asked for 4-5 red potatoes and then 4-5 russet potatoes, and was only given 1 of each. Who only orders 1 potato? While my order was being loaded, I went up to the pharmacy walk-up window to pick up a prescription. The woman started to help me (asked birthday and if I have any questions) then proceeded to walk away and began helping other customers. Then, she leaned on the counter like she didn't have anything to do. I hit the call button but was ignored. I then went inside and she was like "oh weren't you at the window" and proceeded to tell me my medicine had to be recounted. Shop here because it is close. If not for convenience, I might look elsewhere. There is an exterior makeover going on right now but it is not getting in the way of entering/exiting the building. The interior is typical Kroger. Fairly well organized and easy to locate items if you've ever shopped in a Kroger before. The parking lot is a reflection of the surrounding neighborhood. This store offers very limited choices & too often out of what ordered (often with items not on sale/couponed) or make crappy substitutions. Fresh produce "substitutes" with item I did not order = picker clueless about vegetables! Veggies not fresh, wilt within 24 hours. Canned everything often out of stock as well, shitty substitutions OR expensive substitutions. If want specific items must mark "no substitutions" or crapshoot what you will receive. It's apparent Kroger is taking advantage of pick-up customers. Website recently "updated". Item descriptions cut short, cannot determine what item is + lousy pictures. I visit this Kroger quite frequently but will not be visiting anymore. 1. the management staff is not professional at all or kind- they are always frowning and do not speak when standing around. The actual hourly staff is a lot more pleasant than management. 2. A worker refused to serve me at the deli because she profiled me as a homosexual and decided she would call on the name of JESUS while in my presence and tell me something is wrong with me. She then began to discuss/talk about me to other customers as I stood there being helped by a more pleasant employee. I complained to management and he offered to pay for my deli meat. I called Store Manager the next day and he asked me, Well did you tell the manger on duty? and what did he do? He then said I will check with my Assistant Manager and see what happened. I shop at the Millington Kroger and have for years. I've always been very happy with their products and their service. I did not like self checkouts, but I adjusted . Pros and cons . However, today while bagging my groceries at self checkout, the clerk advised us all that Kroger will stop giving out plastic bags and paper bags very soon . Shoppers will have to bring their own bags. So we'll either have to buy plastic bags or bring tote bags . She agreed with the policy and said we do have to get rid of plastic. And I said no that sucks . And the customers standing next to me said she agreed. I asked her what size bag would this lady need to get her groceries home , but a big black trash bag . Kroger is selling small tote bags for $0.99 available at self checkout . Wrong move kroger! Nobody is going to want to buy in large quantity because nobody will have a bag big enough . If Save-A-Lot is still providing bags, I will do more shopping there . Apparently California started it. Inconvenience working people and cost them more money for necessities . I haven't been in this Medical Center Kroger since I lived in Harbor Town on Mud Island, but the major renovation since then included many upgrades that put this store back on the map. Today I was impressed by the # of Employees I saw working hard in every department. There was a definite energy buzz, as Shoppers briskly fanned the doors before the Dinner hour. There were Cashiers in nearly every Checkout station, aggressively scanning & sacking. A short line is a treat, especially when I just need a few things, & would like to be home before dark. "Waiting Time is WASTING Time" So my experience today made me appreciate a well-run store with motivated Employees who are not Slackers. read more

THIS WAS MY FIRST AND LAST TIME EVER BUYING ANYTHING FROM THIS PLACE! I never purchased fresh cut turkey meat before so I was unaware of the apparently 10 different kinds they sell. I walked up to the old lady who clearly was having a bad day and ask if I could have a pound of turkey meat. Instead of asking me what kind & offering the different kind they have. She mugs me and says nothing. We literally had a 30second stare off then she finally responds and say "I'm lookin at you like this because you not telling me what kind you tryna get!" Then she continues to go off on me about it! Me still not knowing what kind to get I just asked for smoked. Well apparently that still wasn't enough for her. And she still continues to go off on me. And to avoid causing more attention than what she already caused I had to just stand there & let her yell & be completely disrespectful! Ummmm I feel like I should write a 5-star review on my birthday...but it is my 30th birthday and I'm a little depressed so I'll tell the story of how I got dragged off a very comfy cough to go get a Corky's brownie pie at 11 last night. Well, that is kinda the entire story, but I'll make it a bit longer. We were watching Varsity Blues (my choice) and he decided at 10:30 pm that he could not continue living without a brownie pie. Specifically Corky's. So we went to the nearest Kroger, which happened to be this one. Ugh. I mean, I'm a Whole Foods girl to begin with...but this Kroger is NOT in a good part of town. And I really didn't want to be here at 11 at night...but I had a guy with me and I'm pretty street smart, so I lived. Wouldn't come here alone though...especially at night. The selection isn't huge because this isn't a large store...and unless I have to come here out of necessity, you won't find me here. read more

I definitely agree with Erica, this Kroger isn't the best one. This Kroger has prices that are standard Kroger prices but it just doesn't have the greatest selection; somehow it's always busy though. There also is a lot of panhandling that goes on in the parking lot, however, that seems to be the case around Midtown from what I've experienced so far. I do give it to Kroger, when they do have sales they typically are good. I only stop in at this one because it's the closest grocery store from me. The infamous Stab n grab. 3.5 stars because they get the job done, but nothing fancy. I wouldn't go here expecting like the world's bougiest kroger with parking valets for you. They have the typical Kroger sales. They're actually in the process of remodeling so I'm expecting a newer and better Kroger in the new few months! Will update my review then. This is the closest kroger to the Island and to downtown Memphis, so I always take advantage of that. Parking lot is kind of shady; so just be aware of that. I go here because it's close to home. I hate going here because their security driving the parking lot doesn't keep the homeless people from approaching you at your car. I'm honestly not sure what they pay him to do. However, the Kroger itself is decent enough. It's a pretty good sized store, and gives you a fairly good selection. It's clean and has pretty friendly staff. I never have had to wait in line to check out. But, it's a Kroger. You probably pay too much if you don't hit their sales. This location, specifically, just needs to get rid of the panhandlers. They aren't just asking...they're demanding, and will follow you almost all the way to the doors. Surely they pay the man in the golf cart to do SOMETHING productive. read more

Though I'm still not a Kroger fan, I have to give them props as they have totally upped the ante at this location. Perhaps they have at all of their locations- but this is the only one I've been to in quite some time. Since implementing the "faster checkout" marketing campaign there seems to have been big improvements. The few times I've had to stop here against my will, I've been in and out in a flash. So quick in fact, I've felt it necessary to ding the "if you had great service today, ring this bell" bell. I actually had the manager approach me on two separate occasions, pull me from the back of a longer line and personally escort me to a brand new line she opened specifically to alleviate the congestion. Kroger fan or not- more grocery stores should adopt this practice. Waiting in line is the worst part of any grocery shopping experience. read more

Unfortunately this is the closest Kroger for the downtown folks. Not in the best area, but as long as you stay smart, you'll be fine. However, it's not a bad Kroger. It's relatively clean, most of the produce is fresh and I usually find what I need. It has a nice organic foods section as well. I can't comment on the deli or bakery, but it looks decent. If you haven't been back to this Kroger on Poplar and Cleveland since the remodel, it's worth giving it another look. It's been given a much needed facelift, cleaned up, and is way more organized than the store on Union. There's also been a noticeable increase in variety of selection, including organic items. It's very rare that I can't find what I need here now. They've added a gate around the parking lot perimeter which has seemed to help with the panhandling problem other reviewers have mentioned in the past. This is now the best Kroger between downtown and the one in Poplar Plaza. As a downtowner, I'd much rather shop here than drive 20-30 minutes to Poplar Plaza as many people I know do. read more

With Kroger being near my home, I shop there often for groceries and other things I need. I rarely get anything from the deli because for the most part, nothing that the deli offers is fresh. However, because of decent dining experiences that I've had at other Kroger stores, I decided to give Kroger Midtown Cafe a try, hoping that my doubts would be proven wrong. Based on what I had so far, I can't say those doubts have been completely eased. The meal that I had was the scrambled eggs with sides of hash browns and sausage patties. The scrambled eggs were some of the saltiest that I ever tasted, and it was so bad that I couldn't finish eating the small portion that I ordered. Besides being salty, the eggs were also watery, maybe the result of being on the serving table a bit too long. The hash browns and sausage patties were okay, but if the eggs aren't good, then why bother with the rest? It'll be like eating a Big Mac with the special sauce and cheese, but with ratty-tasting meat. I wanted to try something from the lunch/dinner menu, but when I arrived there at about 6:50 PM on a Wednesday, there was very little left to be had. Judging from what I saw, even if the deli had any food left, I might not have eaten it because, in my opinion, everything looked stale and unappealing. Compared to other supermarket delis like Schnucks and Piggly Wiggly (whose Midtown store will soon become a "CashSaver") that usually have fresh food right up to their closing time (7:00 PM), Kroger seems to stop preparing meals well before then. The next time, I made sure I got there at an earlier time, which was about 1:15 PM on a Friday afternoon. When I got there, the serving table was nearly filled to capacity, even though the selection was limited. Basically, it mostly consisted of chicken (both baked and fried), along with a pan each of fried catfish, spaghetti and mashed potatoes. In order to make an even-Steven comparison to places like the nearby Rudabagas and my personal favorite, the much maligned Amoco Food Express, I ordered the two-piece chicken combo (costing $5.45 with tax) with baked chicken. Even though the combo comes with two sides of vegetables, the only vegetable that was available was the mashed potatoes, so the woman who served me substituted the spaghetti for one of the veggies (the combo also includes a roll). Because nearly all the tables were taken, I decided to opt for take-out and ate the combo at home. In eating the combo meal, I wasn't expecting much from it, so I was pleased that it was a decent meal. The baked chicken had a nice grilled flavor, with the skin slightly charred in a good way. The chicken was tender and seasoned, and was by far the best part of the meal. The spaghetti, mixed with a gritty meat sauce, had a cheesy and spicy flavor that one would likely find in a school cafeteria. The mashed potatoes weren't anything more than typical, but it complemented everything else nicely. Overall, the meal was about a "6" on a ten-point scale, which isn't terrible but not exactly an endorsement. In closing, I will say that after a couple of visits, I can only say a few good things about the Kroger Midtown Cafe. Other than the baked chicken, most of the food was about average (with the breakfast I had being terrible), and I can't see myself going there on a consistent basis, especially if I can get better quality and variety of food for about the same price. I hope that future meals will change my opinion, for as I said earlier, the grocery store is convenient for me as far as my shopping needs are concerned, and it would be nice to grab a bite to eat while on the go. It would be cool if Kroger meets this need, but based on what I have seen and eaten so for, I'm not optimistic that it will happen. read more

The inside of the Kroger is nice. It has most anything that you want or need from a grocery store. The people are generally friendly. It is updated and nice. The only issue I have is the parking lot. It's a bit small for the amount of people who frequent the location. The place is also crowded. Hopefully when the new Kroger open on union a lot of the congestion will go away. read more
