This Kroger, which sits at the corner of McGavock and Lebanon Pike, is your standard Kroger location, but packaged in a smaller, more compact size. Easiest described as a combination of city center and suburb locations. While the layout is smaller, they still have a great selection of all the goods I am accustomed to. I mean, you can tell they have less variety or certain items, but there was nothing completely missing for me. The store is clean, but needs some TLC conditionally. This is an older location, so the wear and tear, from inside to out is noticeable. Service was friendly at self-checkout. They were helpful in directing traffic and with any assistance needed when the self checkout gave you the normal attitude. There were no employees on the floor, so service in the aisles was lacking, but in my case was not needed. This location does offer the Kroger gas station, but it is situated across the street, making it a standalone gas station of sorts. Overall, solid Kroger location that I would happily visit again when in the immediate area. read more

My husband and I just shopped there and because we are entertaining and then getting ready to go on a long sailboat trip tomorrow where we do not know what facilities will be available to us, we took advantage of the sales they had on beer and wine. As we were going through the checkout lane, the cashier who is in a wheelchair, commented, "wow! That's a lot of wine!" I thought I surely had misheard her because I didn't think anyone would be that rude. However, a little while later, I asked my husband about it, and he assured me that, "oh yes, you heard her correctly!". Had I realized that, at the time, I would've addressed it directly to her, wheelchair or not. She has absolutely no idea the circumstances under which we bought those. Apparently, she thinks we are going to drink it all tonight. Cashiers have absolutely no business commenting on what someone is buying because they don't know the circumstances. Kroger needs to train their cashiers to keep their mouths shut! read more

This Kroger really need help with its inside appearance... I am so happy that I didn't need to really shop for anything cause they wouldn't have had it. Kind service at self check out but this store doesn't even look like the same brand supermarket compared to the Kroger on Gallatin... wow, please managers if you are tired pass the torch!!! This is a good location of the supermarket chain, Kroger. I stopped here on my way to a meeting to grab a few waters for the day and I found this location to be overall a good location. The staff was friendly and professional and the store was decently laid out, with the exception that for whatever reason, I thought that the entrance was on the other side so I traipsed from one end to the other side and then had to traipse back to the side I originally started at. Still, a good store and I would definitely recommend this particular location of Kroger. read more

Ive been going here for years. I would think the employees would appreciate that, but i am treated like a thief or a hindrance. Workers here regularly are rude or gossip about customers. I have literally had employees at checkout ridicule me openly for no reason. A supervisor lady at one point yelled at me at checkout because i didnt want to purchase a box of waffles that had been taped together. I hope this Kroger goes out of business. It is dissapointing and is proof big corporations like Kroger destroy the customer experience. read more

Poor service! Negative employee attitude! Dirty! Don't ask for help because you won't get it. They refused to help me out to my car which resulted in a sprained LCL. Management called....they apologized... But I got the feeling that they really didn't care. Had to pay my doctor 95$ for an appointment to diagnose the sprained LCL . This Kroger has been the Kroger for years! Like 17 to be exact. I've never had the chance to review it. First, I didn't know about the awesomeness of Yelp and second, I never cared as I was a teenager and didn't know the power of reviews. From finding amazing places to avoiding awful ones. This rating reflects all of those years plus the new and continuous experiences as an average score. I have added up all of my share of great, bad and horrible experiences to come up with this review and rating. I will highlight a couple of experiences as examples. First of, some of the good. The location has always been the best! less than 5 mins in a car is the most I have ever drive to get there from any of the houses I've lived in around the area. The store has always been fairly stock in my opinion with different brands and grocery items. You are seeing more options on organic and "specialty" items now. Throughout the years they had gone through changes and reorganization of items on aisles and I really like what they have right now, the only bad thing is that they don't have enough space. They are offering too many items for the space they have in store the store and the stores feels crowded with 15 people in it counting the staff! They have a bakery, fresh cold cuts, sea food and meat section to pick food if you don't want prepackaged ones. They also have ready to eat food like rotisserie chicken, salads, sandwiches, Home Chef, etc. I like their gas point program, it's really easy to collect them and save on gas and they have a gas station right across the street. I loved the employees that were there before. I haven't seen many of their faces in a while, the newer employees are not as friendly and service oriented. Perfect example is a very recent incident that was uncalled for with the cold cut section employees. The pre-cut section was completely empty, like the sandwich I was going to eat for lunch the next day! BLT, for bread lettuce and tomatoes... So I looked over and saw people talking over the counter. It was a little more than 20 minutes before 9pm (when that section is closed) and asked for some items and the girl with an immediate attitude said "I'm cleaning now", I looked at the watch and said the time and proceeded to ask for my items, she continued to give me an attitude telling me she was closed and her coworker (a male) gave me an attitude too. She said "I'm closing because that's what my manager told me to do." I asked her nicely to please ask her manager to come so he/she could tell me also the rules so I wouldn't inconvenience her next time and to tell me what should I get if the pre-cut section is empty while the cold cuts section is closed. They proceeded to cut my items with the same bad attitude and let me not start on what I received and paid for. Lack of training and supervision? On the positive encounters, I'm always happy when they have the cashiers open. I personally don't like self checkout that much. Yes, they are convenient when you have 5 or less items (specially if you're with babies/kids) but stores have forgotten the personality. That's why I love this lady (protecting identity) she is always smiling, always asking about your day, making joke as things run efficiently fair (if we are talking numbers). She makes the store feel like home. Definitely need more employees like her and less like the two other. I know every tree has it's apples but it doesn't mean everyone has a worm, or something like that, all I'm saying is that this location has become a hit on miss on a few things but still a great place to shop if you're close to it. I'm a Texan through and through, meaning I exclusively (well, 95% of the time) shop at H-E-B. Well. Those don't exist in Tennessee. And Kroger doesn't seem to exist in San Antonio or anywhere south of that. I will happily take Kroger as my Grocery Store away from home, though, as I really did forget I wasn't in an HEB while shopping here. There are minute differences, like the size of propel waters, and of course, the generic brands are different, and there's a distinct lack of fresh tortillas and pan dulce (though the rest of their bakery, down to the packaging, looked SUPER familiar!). But overall, it felt like home and I actually went there twice. Lucky me, I caught a cold while up here and had to buy some cold meds. (And allergy meds, just in case I misdiagnosed myself) Great spot, it was easy to get to, and maybe $5 per Lyft drive. read more

I normally like Kroger for their prices but I found this Kroger to be very unclean, disorganized, and in need of an overhaul. The floor is basically in pieces. A lot of the lights in the ice cream section were burnt out. They didn't have what I wanted either. I stopped at the excellent Publix, located nearby, before coming here and it really highlighted how little care is put into making this Kroger presentable. read more

This store isn't as big as the one I frequented before, but it's still decent. Of course a totally different layout to learn, as they all are. My disappointment has come over the lack of a few items I have always found at other locations...some of which are Kroger brand even! Like their croutons. Yes, those Private Selection focaccia croutons are so, so good...and this store doesn't have them. GAH! Getting in to this place is no biggie, but getting out is a whole notha' story. Be prepared to sit a spell and watch your mouth! It's gonna take a lot of patience to get out of here, especially at peak times. I do like that the sushi station is in the middle of the floor. It brings more attention to the chef carefully preparing sushi art, and it seems the chefs get the opportunity to engage more with the customers too. The few times I have asked for staff assistance of some kind, they have all been helpful despite how busy they may be. So another plus there. My favorite part? Ah, well, this goes for all stores...but my favorite part is the Kroger app. I can shop on the app ahead of time, build my list, apply my coupons, then arrange my list by aisle and zip through the store like a pro. Ugh, this Kroger is the worst. From an entrance that is commonly void of shopping carts...to regular exposure to the produce guy's butt crack...to just a general feeling of uncleanliness, I really do leave angry after every visit. It's shocking the difference between this store and the nearby Publix, where shopping really is a pleasure. This is the grocery store that we visit when we are at Grandma's house. I find the best time to come in is early, never a big wait. I was pleasantly surprised to find a pretty nice produce department, complete with an organic section at reasonable prices. We also stocked up on some snacks and beer. A good selection of fresh produce and meats, they even have a Sushi Chef rolling. They do offer a pretty good selection of Gluten Free items. This was a Busy Busy Store, however the manager knew to have extra people on-hand and opened cash resisters as needed, so my wait to check out was not bad at all. Thanks Kroger ! read more

We don't have Kroger's in Florida so I may have to admit I was really excited to get to visit one! While in Nashville I stayed at a time share with a kitchen. While I did want to make sure I enjoyed the amazing local cuisine I did want to stock up on some snacks. Kroger's is your typical grocery store. I would compare it to an Alberston's here down South. I felt the need to review this Krogs because they have grown leaps and bounds since I stopped in a few years ago. Upon my discovery of the east-east side, I declared Donelson a "Bud Light, Miller Light, Coors Light" kind of town with a "White Bread, Bologna, & Mayo" Kroger. Nothing wrong with that, just means you used to have to go a little further to find anything else. Well, butter my biscuits, this little Kroger not only started carrying a VAST selection of craft beer and serving Sushi, they recently had a remodel. Oh yes, there is definitely a wine shelf anxiously awaiting the appearance of actual wine (the kind with alcohol in it!) It may not be my go-to grocery, but it now holds its own against other area Kroger stores. Good job, Hip D. read more

I shop at this Kroger regularly because it's a quarter mile from my home. The meat clerk is amazing and he alone keeps me coming in plus the close proximity to home is nice. On the other hand the produce sometimes is not so great. Many times I've been unhappy with the freshness and sometimes even had to go back to return what I purchased once I opened the package. Many times I have purchased out of date yogurt and brought it to management attention. I don't purchase yogurt there anymore because the problem continues. Yes I should look at the date and that's on me but still... this has happened with other foods as well. Today the sushi I purchased which normally is pretty fresh tasted old. The sweet baby peppers I purchased must be returned because they are rotten inside the bag. read more

They need serious improvement from the employee that mans the self checkout line.. Little bit of an attitude.. maybe he hadn't had his caffeine the morning I visited.. A little rough around the edges. Ten people in line, 2 rows of self checkout cashiers working.. I could have run next door and back by the time the line moved.. Will have to bring this up to Kroger Incorporated.. Either get a morning person on the line or add another person to help the first one. That didn't fly with all of us, standing in line. Other than that.. place looks good. No odor when walking in. I would suggest morning glories for the first shift.. read more

Car was recently broken into at the Kroger's on 285 and Cascade. The outside security car was empty and therefore no one there to prevent the crime. Kroger says my stolen laptop, pad, and broken window is not their problem.... Bad outdoor security by the local store and worst customer care by Corporate. Weekly customer for years now says go to Publics. It's safer. read more

The Donelson Kroger is my neighborhood grocery store...and a fine one it is. It is an absolutely beautiful store since their recent remodel and their selection and pricing is second to none. Special kudos to the staff at their new Sushi bar - the sushi is ALWAYS fresh and delicious. My mom and dad were regular Kroger shoppers so I feel like I've spent a good deal of my life there. Do not rely on Clicklist as an option to make your grocery shopping faster. Whenever you have a reserve window of an hour and it literally takes that full hour of you sitting in a car while they gather your food is a little ridiculous, especially when you order your food 4-5 hours prior. I thought this service would be beneficial if you have a busy schedule and you can shop in advance to have your food ready... but if I have to sit in my car for an hour to get my food... I might as well have gone in myself and done it faster. read more

This Kroger is by my work and every time I come here I am blown away by the customer service. Every staff member has a smile on their face and goes the extra mile for their guest. The last time I was here the gentleman behind the meat counter added extra marinade over my steaks without even asking. The gentleman behind the meats was very cheerful and offered samples and so happy to help. Then today as I was leaving it started to pour and a worker came out of nowhere and got an umbrella and walked me to my car. This just names a few. The Kroger Store in Nashville, TN, was a great find for us. It is a very good grocery store, was easy to locate and the checkers were extremely helpful to us. The prices were in the reasonable range, the produce was very crisp and fresh, and It uses the same point system as the Dillion's Stores we are familiar with. Since Publix moved in the area I usually shop there but my sister wanted to go to this Kroger the other day. There was an unpleasant smell throughout the store. Most of the produce was in its last days before it rots and the shelves throughout the entire store were partially bare. What disturbed us most was that the security guard on duty followed us through the store and was very noticeable about it. Neither of us steal and both have jobs and can afford to buy groceries. It appeared we were followed because we were black. I won't be back to this location ever again. read more

My "Neighborhood Friendly" Kroger's -- not so friendly! I had a heart attack last July and am still not 100%. I still cannot run or lift heavy objects over 10lbs. I went in to purchase 2-liter Coke Zeros. After filling my cart with about 15 of em, I went to check-out. I decided to Self-Checkout due to the lines at the registers that were open. I am confident with Self Checkout; I prefer it these days after other similar establishments cashier checkouts seem to just TOSS your items in bags with no regard to shaking, breaking, etc., em hem-WalMart. Self Checkout is limited in its space for full bags. Everyone who has used Self Checkout, knows, you scan and place in bag; otherwise, your checkout will be delayed and would involve the CSR to come over because register locks up. Anyways, after placing two 2-liter bottles in each bag and then double bagging them, I spun the bag carousel around and was full. Eight 2-liters sat on the carousel. I still had 7 more to scan and bag in the cart. I noticed a shelf above the kiosk screen and decided to place the bagged 2-liters on top of this shelf so I can complete my checkout. To my surprise, I looked down at the kiosk and it was locked. I couldn't scan anything. I looked to my right at the BLONDE CSR there, quite cute IMO and asked, "Can you come and unlock this so I can finish scanning these other 2-liters?" She replied, "Not until you return those on that shelf back down on the carousel." I said, "There is no other room for these I need to scan and bag." She reiterated her position. I then said, "Look, I have a bad heart and just want to check out without collapsing here. Would you please help me get these off the shelf and assist with the remainder of these cokes?" She replied, "I'm calling security." Really!? I try to understand others and will usually go out of my way to accommodate most people just to avoid drama; however, when I'm not feeling well, I would like to think that my neighborhood friendly Kroger and its staff would be willing to assist should I need it. I realized that maybe it was my tone. Maybe in my "not feeling well" I could have been abrasive. I managed to remove the bags from the shelf to which the ***** unlocked the kiosk and I completed scanning the other seven 2-liter bottles. As I walked away from the register, I looked over at her and said "Thank you." to which she uttered something under her breath that I couldn't make out. As I walked away, I realized that despite my condition, despite the lack of assistance, that was uncalled for. I mean, she is in a Customer Service position. She wasn't busy and could have easily assisted me in checkout. My requests for assistance were warranted and could have easily been handled. As I walked closer towards the exit, I stopped at the Customer Service Desk. As the lady there asked what she could help me with, I looked to my left BACK at the girl who was so rude. She stood there with another one of her colleagues and was laughing as we looked at each other. I then told the lady behind the Customer Service desk what has just occurred and asked for a complaint form which I could prepare and submit to corporate. After she handed me the form, I asked her to watch my buggy and proceeded towards the girl CSR at the self-checkout area. Upon my approach, she began saying, quite loudly, "Don't touch me, Don't touch me." to which I replied, I just would like to see your name tag so I complete this customer service form for corporate to which she looked down at my right hand and saw me holding it there and then immediately covered her name tag with her left hand and refused to give me her name. This sealed the deal for me! I whipped out my phone and took a picture! I then proceeded back towards my buggy and out the exit determined that this never happen to another customer! I know Kroger is a staple within Middle Tennessee. I can remember as a child going there with my parents and doing the grocery shopping. Hell, I had friends in school that worked there and now their kids work at Kroger's. But I would think, if you stake your reputation and business on the "Neighborhood friendly" slogan which you utilize in your marketing, then your staff should understand with utter clarity what that entails. No one can really know who they are helping, what their circumstances are these days. Despite my youthful appearance, I am battling heart failure and I am always happy when I can do things that are normal in life. After arriving home this afternoon, I brought all the 2-liters in and was having shortness of breath with some trouble breathing. It was not another heart attack, just exhausted from all the lifting. It is something I live with these days. I took a nap and am feeling much better now as I write this review. I will not return to the Kroger location at Mcgavock Rd ever again.
