Small hole in the wall. Some of the best Thai I have ever had. I had the Panang Curry one buddy the yellow curry last had cashew chicken and chow mien. The curries were a great consistency, yellow curry normally comes with potatoes (wasn't expecting them to look like crinkle cut French fries) but was told they didn't make the dish bad and he actually liked them. I could have sworn the chow mien noodles were ramen noodles but again the flavor was great. I had mine Thai spicy (I think most Thai spots won't give the white guy true Thai spice lmao). This one was no exception I would have rated the spice medium. Don't let my criticism of the stuff that was odd deter you. This place is amazing and the food had outstanding flavor. read more

Who knew that Abilene would have deliciously authentic Thai food!!! The staff is super friendly and the prices for the amount of food are so awesome! I always think Thai food is such a luxury item because it's insanely expensive but this place is so reasonable! My husband loves HOT so I asked for number 4 but the woman and man at the counter suggested I start with 3 and bring extra peppers on the side for him (it was a take out order)....they were right!! Level three is HOT!!! On that note I ordered the peanut chicken at a level 2 and my lips are numb even as I type this. If I had any issues with nasal congestion before eating I don't now. Just be forewarned that even a little spicy is SPICY (I don't mind, but I'll know for next time to go with level one for sure...my ulcer will thank me) Had the sticky rice and bananas and it was delicious, and we had the Thai spring rolls and they came with some kind of clear sauce I'd never seen before. It smelled like vinegar but it tasted like the tears of angels. I could eat a hundred of those spring rolls. And I'd eat the number off a Buick if it was covered in that sauce. As someone who grew up around a lot of unique cuisine, l had high hopes for this place! Unfortunately, l was disappointed. Although, the spring rolls were very good! I was excited for the meal after we had those as an appetizer. I ordered the Pad Thai, mild spicy level. I've had Pad Thai from a few different places, and I've always liked the dish. Something was just "off" about the flavor in this one. It smelled like canned dog food when it was brought out, which made me nervous. The taste wasn't too bad, but it was something l sort of had to make myself keep eating once l was past the first few bites. My husband ordered the Sesame chicken. I tried that as well. It was better than my dish, but was more fried batter than actual chicken. The sauce permeated the batter and made it very squishy. Kind of like the texture of wet toast. The taste was alright, just not great. Maybe we'll give this place another shot down the road, but our first experience here was definitely not what we had hoped for. read more

The workers always greet us when we walk in and typically remember our order (probably because we go maybe once a week) but the red curry, green curry, Thai tea, satay chicken, and egg rolls and delicious so if you want to try something get them!! I called in my lunch order ahead of time so that it would be ready on my timed lunch break on a weekday. I figured I could sit at the restaurant if they had an open table. However, they refused to let me sit at their restaurant since I ordered carry-out even though there were no tables taken at the time. They explained that it would set a bad example and other customers may catch on to my "trick". In an empty restaurant, they continued to explain that they could become busy and couldn't open up one table to me. I kept eating with vigor, hoping I just got a bad bite, and the more I ate, the more obvious it was that I got a horrific batch of Pad Thai. Sad! Maybe I'll return and try again. Please note that this is a small little restaurant. There were less than 10 tables and most of them seated between 2-4 people. Beware of a wait especially if you're going around peak hours aka lunch and dinner. I went on a Sunday at around 11:30 and it was packed. If your party has more than 4, then be prepared for the wait. Their menu is pretty big, a mixture of Thai and Chinese food and the prices were cheap. I'm guessing on the weekends, prices differ because my bill came out more than expected but I understood since it was Sunday. I got the Pad Thai and the Thai tea. The Thai tea came out pretty fast and it was super flavorful. It was dark and they weren't cheap on the actual tea meaning the ratio between tea and milk was more tea so it made it taste super good and flavorful. I got the Pad Thai with chicken at a level 2. I think I could have gotten it a bit more spicy but everywhere on the menu and the board at the front of the restaurant warned of how spicy it can get and you won't be able to return your dish. They do have a spice rack at the front of the store for everyone to use at their own discretion. I didn't know about it until I paid. It took some time for the entree to come out but I didn't mind because the Thai tea was so good. It came out on a decent sized plate and it was a medium portion. Not too small and not too big. It came with a small wedge of lime too. I wish it was bigger because I definitely needed some seasoning for the Pad Thai. I felt like the entree didn't have that much flavor but i'm not sure if the Thai tea threw off my taste bud or not. I thought the Pad Thai tasted a bit bland for my standards. The chicken was also really little that I couldn't even tell if it was in my dish. I'm a big fan of Thai food and this just didn't do it for me. However, the service was wonderful. You can tell it's a family business and they are quick, efficient and sweet. It's hard to be quick and nice and they manage to do just that. When it comes to Thai food, I love it all. But Krua Thai in Abilene is one of those places that truly stands out above the rest. The owner is the cook and she loves to serve great food. She even makes annual trips back to her home village in Thailand to bring back herbs and spices grown by her family. She uses these spices in her restaurant cooking and they do make a difference. This is one of the things that set this Thai place apart. The one thing you should know is that Tita (the owner) does not dull down her cooking to accommodate the sensitive Texas palate. She ranks her spicy level an a scale of 1 to 4, with four being the SURFACE OF THE SUN! As a lover of hot peppers, I can say I have never eaten at another Thai restaurant that can even come close to the heat level in Krua Thai's level four. I usually get a level three and it is right at the border of what I would say is the point at which pepper heat turns form delicious spice to delicious pain. That is the perfect level for me. I know some people that love the level four, but most normal people stop at level two. One of the key questions to ask the cook is, "What village di the peppers she is using that day come from, her mothers village or hers. The peppers from he mother's village are much hotter than the peppers grown in her own village. My favorites here are her curry chicken fried rice and her beef noodle soup. Stopped here on the way back to Dallas. We were starving and didn't want any junk food. Seeing that food options were limited in this area we decided to give this place a try. First of all -- the place smells. I dont know if it's sewage or what that smell is. But I couldn't even eat comfortably. I literally held my breath the whole time I was there. Second -- I got the yellow curry. The sauce was pasty and thick.. I don't usually have a problem with texture but the smell and texture combined together made my stomach turn. Man, I wanted to like this place so bad because how good the reviews are. I typically get Pad See Eew because of the flavoring. Another review mentioned they got the same dish and it wasn't right. I agree: the dish wasn't the best. The noodles are supposed to be brown because of the sauce but I didn't get that. The noodles or any other part of the dish had no sauce. It was sad and limpless with some chicken, carrots, mushrooms, and broccoli thrown in. I also ordered a spice level 1 because of the reviews that claim they over-spice. Might have been my dish but I wish I ordered it at a 2. I'm not a spicy person either so that was surprising. We were trying to find an unexpected Thai gem on our way to Lubbock. This little restaurant is a few blocks from the highway in a strip of businesses. We got the last table at lunch. There was a crowd of soldiers and nurses eating Thai. As in other reviews, our order arrived in about 30 minutes. The staff really worked to take orders and keep glasses filled. Sadly the rather simple dishes we have eaten at many other places did not measure up. Pad Kee Mao/DUI Noodle was bland, lacking in both its typical flavor and ingredients. The Massamum Curry was an even bigger disappointment. The curry had some spice but a consistency of pudding without the flavor I love. It lacked some of the veggies the dish usually contains. The potatoes in this dish were crinkle cut. Were they frozen from a bag of fries? Could not tell. Only the Pad Sew U tasted like it should. Plenty of broccoli and basil. Overall it took to long for too little. Our lunch was almost $40. read more
