Our waitress Esther was perky, attentive and efficient. A sign of a good restaurant is the use of fresh ingredients. However towards the end of the night they maybe our of somethings. I suggest you show up early in order to enjoy the whole menu. That being said my husband's Masaman tofu was rich, savory and the heat level was spot on, (Thai hot). I had the shrimp pad thai which was not as savory as I would like. I asked Esther if she can bring me their clear sauce(vinegar & sugar) I added it and it was just right. This restaurant is ran with so much heart. Lake is literally one of the nicest humans I have ever meant. I met here way back in 2009 when she was working at Bangkok Thai with Manu. Sadly that establishment is now closed since Manu went back to Thailand. Lake took it upon herself to keep the yummy recipes in abilene and opened up Krua Thai. The flavors are so perfectly placed into each dish. I fancy the thai basil chicken. It has half pieces of cloves of garlic and so many other yummy flavors that all swirl together to make the perfect flavor and texture. Their spring rolls are addictive and so good. I could just eat 40 on accident. They are really the best I have ever had in my life. Don't let the location or small interior scare you. First of all, the food is fantastic. You won't be disappointed in the quality or quantity (plenty for lunch the next day). My only slight hesitation is that they can be a little off-putting in customer service. Not really rude per se, just odd with their many rules that they constantly shove in your face. This review is low mainly because of the poor overall experience due to long wait time for food(1hr) and lack of overall cleanliness of the facility. The food was what saved them. Details below. I finally decided to try some Thai food in Abilene and after seeing the great reviews online and a recommendation from my brother, Krua Thai was a no brainer for me until I showed up and waited an hour for two entrees. The place was pretty busy but I didn't expect it to be that long of a wait. Usually the hole in the wall spots are well worth the wait so I waited and waited....and waited, only to get a pretty small portion of food (Pad Thai). In their defense, the food is made to order. I would definitely ask how long the wait will be before sitting down to order. I couldn't complain about the flavor of my selection and I ordered it to be spice level 3/4 which was enough to make my eyes water and get the sinus' cleared out. If it weren't for the food being decent I wouldn't have been able to justify 3 stars. The bathroom was not exactly clean nor was the place as a whole, which did have an impact on my experience and this review. Side note: Both, the thai tea and the thai coffee are extremely sweet. Just beware if you're sensitive to sugar. Overall, I would have to disagree with my brothers recommendation here and say that I was very let down considering all of the hype. This place is in a quiet plaza with limited seats. Old chairs, tables and decorations. The owners and waitresses are polite and nice. The appetizers are good, especially the chicken skewers. The dishes are in considerable size. We ordered fried rice and DUI. Both tasted great but were done in a rush so that a small portion of rice and noodles were balled together. I came with my family and we split three entrees that all contrasted, but went well together - the Pad Kee Mow, Mussamun Curry, and Sweet & Sour Chicken. What. A. Treat! Great Pad Thai with great service!! Is there anything else I need to say? The place is small with about 7 tables, but they can accommodate for groups. The Pad Thai can be ordered with various meats or shrimp and at various levels of heat. It had a really nice kick when I asked mine to be pretty spicy. This place is the best Thai in town. The seating area is small and gets full quickly, if you want lunch get there early. They have 4 levels of spicy heat, I like the 3 to 4, sometimes the 4 makes my head sweat. Some of the staff english is limited but they are all friendly.
