I've had a love affair with Thai food since I was a little girl. I've eaten at so many hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurants in nearly every place I've visited. That being said, I was a bit disappointed with Krua Thai. I remember first trying them out when they were Bangkok Thai. I was living in Del Rio at the time and was heavily deprived of food diversity. I ordered their Pad Thai, Pad Woon Sen, and fried spring rolls to eat on the journey back home. I could hardly wait to sample each dish as I got into my car. Unfortunately, none of those dishes delivered the familiar heat or flavor I had come to love in Thai cuisine. The Pad Woon Sen had way too much pepper and not enough overall flavor. The Pad Thai was a bit dry and also lacking flavor. Also, I had a really hard time with the chunky pieces veggies they threw into the Pad Woon Sen. Now, don't get my wrong, I love vegetables. The thing is-- I'm big into texture; somehow the crinkle-cut carrots and chunky bits of celery seemed like an after thought. The spring rolls were burned. Yeah, not such a great experience. Anyway, fast forward to a few months after Krua Thai opened in its current location. I decided to give them another shot. I ordered the Larb beef which happens to be one of my favorite Thai dishes. My husband ordered their Yum Nua. Neither one of us were very impressed. So, despite my endless love for Thai food, I feel no inclination to get it from Krua Thai. read more

Krau Thai was a huge disappointment. My brother ordered sesame chicken. They were out of it. Then he ordered the lemon chicken. They were out of that. I asked if they had chicken. Our water said yes. Then my brother ordered sweet and sour chicken. 10 minutes later we were told they were out of that too because they served the last bit to a table behind us. My brother ended up getting the pepper steak. It was too hot and he ended up finding a hair in it. I had Pad Thai with shrimp. It was pretty good. I would never do this unless I absolutely felt like I had to. Tonight's experience in this restaurant was disgraceful--the way we were treated by the owner. We were meeting for a birthday dinner. We were missing two of our 7 total guests. She, the owner, yelled and berated us in front of the other guests for arriving without the whole party, before seating us. The only reason we stayed is because the guest of honor had not arrived yet. As we sat down she continued scolding us, insisting we were "buying time" by asking for drinks and time to look at the menu before ordering. The server/hostess gracefully attempted to quell the situation by taking our drink order. By the time she came back with our drinks, all guests were present and we knew what we wanted. The owner's behavior was completely out of line, and none of us had ever been treated so unfairly in any restaurant experience we've ever had. That establishment is lucky they have that server, who was extremely professional and accommodating. I've been to this restaurant many times and I've always loved the food, but I will not be going back. My family and I were completely offended, but I'm glad the birthday boy came in behind us and did not witness the debacle, which would have marked his birthday dinner marked with an asterisk. On a business trip here, saw the good yelp reviews, and was hoping for a great experience, but turned out to be a huge disappointment. This place really failed multiple level: Food taste really bad, the tum yum soup taste like plain vinegar sour soup, it is honestly the worst tum yum soup I've ever had. Pad Thai is very watery, with lots of big red pepper Chuck in it. I stepped in 12:45PM, the service is very very slow. It is a fairly small place with 3 water/waitress taking care of ~ 8 tables, and they do not take care of the payment. I had to wait over 10min just to get a manu. The worst part is after a very disappointing lunch, they charged me an appetizer I did not order ( I thought it comes with the lunch special). When I brought it up, they insist I should pay for half of it, because "I ate it", instead of bring it back to them. Overall, It was a very very negative experience. Where do I begin :( I typically never write bad reviews for restaurants, but the food here is simply not good. My husband and I are new to Abilene and we were excited to find out that there was a local Thai place. We have eaten authentic Thai food in New York, Virginia, Florida, DC, and this is by far the worst Thai food we have ever had. We tried to give this place the benefit of the doubt, and after our order today (Third time) we will not be returning. The first 2 times we visited the restaurant we ordered the Tom Kha Kai soup and the DUI noodles. The soup was extremely salty and sour as if they compensated "flavor" for salt, and the DUI noodles were dry and lacked seasoning. We chucked it up as maybe a personal preference difference and decided maybe our taste buds were a bit off. My husband and I enjoy supporting small local businesses and figured we would try our luck at this restaurant one last time. We both decided to order the Pad Thai since that is the most recognized Thai dish. Both orders were completely flavorless and did not taste like a traditional Pad Thai. The only good thing we can mention about this place was that the food was cooked and was prepared quickly. I write this review for anyone who truly enjoys authentic Thai food. They can get pretty busy and the service is a bit lacking for dining in. The staff works hard but this place is pretty popular. Probably needs a larger location and more staff but the food is really good, even better than what I've had in bigger cities like Dallas, Austin, or SA. So my family and I go here often and we always express how amazing the food is. Tonight my sister and I took out our little cousin and when she got her plate she picked at it, when I tried it it was SO BAD. The Thai curry rice was just covered in powder. It was so dry and bland. When we went to the counter we tried explaining that she didn't eat her dish so we wouldn't be charged for something we didn't eat. She was so oblivious and ignored us. We tried walking out and she was like "oh wait you together" and we were like YES. Apparently she didn't understand we were saying her plate was bad and thought we were saying just to charge my sister and cousins plate. The other two plates were fantastic. All of the good reviews were really right!!! I had the beef teryaki and thai sweet tea and it was all very good. I was in a hurry so didn't order any more, but was impressed with their friendliness and speed of getting my food out. They have all the condiments you could want. I was one of two customers so plenty of room, but I can see how when they are busy people would feel cramped.
