I should have stayed with my original nail tech because this place is not it. I said to be careful with my nails and the tall skinny guy just ignore that and was too hard and rough. My fingers hurt. After he puts on the polish and cleans my nails he files them all again and takes away the polish off the sides of my nails. I asked him to polish it again he said no it's supposed to be like that. I never write reviews and for a while this was an okay place but after this I'm never going back. I came as soon as they opened and got my toes done first and that was fine. The nails were another issue. Some of them are uneven. The black on my nails polish you can actually see through when you hold them up. Not only was this rushed but the nail tech was not paying attention. The lighting in there doesn't do justice to the end result. My husband asked why I didn't go back but I don't see a point to let them mess it up more. I was already there too long. read more

This place has been around for YEARS. I think the owners name is John and he's a sweetheart and his wife I can't remember her name but she and the rest of the owners are sweet. I recently went back a couple months ago and met this new guy working there named Kevin ( don't quite me I'm not sure) I think? I'm not sure he's the only other male usually there. He's younger and rude! I guess because I'm not a regular I've had to deal with him on the last two occasions I went there. On the first occasion he was rude. Never introduced himself and turned my finger hard as hell and I could have sworn he chuckled after I said ouch. His work was decent but it was not a pleasant experience at all. To the point where I didn't want to tip him at all. The second time I walked in the owner called the same guy out to help me, of course he was the only one with no customers. I was annoyed but in a rush so I had no choice. I sat down in his chair he looked at me and then disappeared to the back. He came back out and sat across from me and didn't even acknowledge my presence, he started eating. Literally eating across from me like I wasn't there. Then talking on his phone with his friends. He finally acknowledged me after that and said "what do you want?" Not how can I help you? What are you getting today? "What do you want?" He has terrible customer service skills. Do not go to him make an appointment with anyone else. I like everyone else in the establishment but him. He is rude! Again I didn't want to tip him and I shouldn't have!! Cozy laidback salon with a handful of stations and a nice staff. Prices seemed reasonable for a full set too ($36). I was there on a weekday so it was pretty quiet--busy but quiet--and I prefer that to the huge hectic salons. A lot of regulars go here and the staff asks them about their lives and stuff. The worst full set with gel I have ever had. I have Gel on both my hands and feet. They do not soak off at this salon they just rip them off. When she did decide to soak nails it burned because they had practically filed my nail bed away & had the nerve to try again to soak them. As a result I now have a hole in my nail bed, which I hope doesn't get an infection or I will be calling the Department of Health. The shape is horrible with bumps throughout & get mad when you ask questions or provide direction. Polish all over my fingers. Pedicure was lack luster like she didn't actually want to do them. Very aggressive while cutting the cuticles & filing. Water was luke warm and did not make it warmer when requested. Several ladies walked out while I was there & I wish I would of too. Only take cash no credit cards but they conveniently have an ATM inside. Save your money and go somewhere else & don't waste your time with this shop. read more

Been going here for years. Stopped for a while but craftsmanship is unmatched , literally. Pedicures are great and my tips always come out looking nice and LAST. With other salons I'm running to do my Fill in at the two week mark. Here, by three weeks I'm forcing myself to go because it's been a long time. They only take cash which is one annoying thing. I will never return to Krystal Nails. I was a loyal customer because I love their prices, but the staff could honestly not be more rude. I went with a friend and had a 3:30 appointment and they didn't even start my nails until 4. They continued to take walk-in patients who arrived after us instead of my friend, and by the time we left an hour and a half after arriving she didn't even have her nails done. The nail tech removed my acrylics and it was the most painful thing in the world. She made two of my fingers bleed. The manicure was incredibly rushed and completely sloppy. None of my nails are even, there are chips and she didn't even bother to clean underneath my nails. Not only was the manicure horrible, but she was extremely rude to me and my friend as well as the rest of the staff. The salon is very congested and small, I highly recommend going somewhere else. read more

Would not recommend. I have cuts on my fingers and toes from them doing my feet and hands. Also had to make the lady do my feet over 3 times because she kept thinking I was going to accept her low quality work. She didn't even put the finishing coat on my feet. She was also trying to go between another customer & myself's feet to do both at the same time without washing her hands. That's nasty. Had an attitude the whole time. Krystal Nails is one of those "you pay for what you get" type of places. I came here based on a recommendation, and I really liked the nails of the girl who told me to come so I was feeling hopeful. She said to go to Kevin, specifically. After looking at my other trusty Yelper's reviews, it seemed some people had issues with Kevin. I made an appointment anyways, the same day, and came in for almond tips. Its nice that they are available so readily, but also makes you question why. The nail salon is actually pretty/mostly clean, but it does wreak of that bad chemical smell. I can get used to it eventually, but if someone were pregnant I probably would find it unhealthy for them to sit in here too long..Kevin was nice enough, but definitely not super friendly. He started my nails after I showed him a few pictures of what I was looking for. Towards the middle of putting the tips on, I felt like the almond shape he went for was a bit pointy/more narrow than I had shown him I wanted. Long story short, but this created quite the little fiasco. When I mentioned this to him, he proceeded to bicker with his colleagues back in forth (in their language, I won't assume what it was, but not English) and stated that my nail bed was too small to make them any bigger. I wound up letting it go and he finished my nails, but the customer service aspect of the entire experience definitely went out the window. All in all, my nails look fine, but they aren't perfect. Then again, I only paid around $40 for the new set including gel polish, so I didn't really expect for much more than I received. The prices here are super low, so if you don't mind that it won't be an overly indulgent/pleasant experience, then this may be your new nail spot. read more

I always get a manicure (tips) and pedicure, I show them pictures of what I want and they always come out better than I can imagine. Of course it gets packed but they always try their best to please everyone, including walk-ins. Would totally recommend coming here, I never had my nails rushed like the other comments say. I USED to love Krystals! I started at Krystals during middle school (13+ yrs ago) and they were always amazing! I moved out of the area so I wasn't able to frequent the salon but I damn sure went whenever I was around! Today was one of the times and it will be my last time! Went in for a pedicure and got a girl that barely spoke English & to top it off she was on the phone the whole time! She was horrible, she damn near took the skin on my foot off scrubbing dead skin that didn't exist then almost cut all of my cuticles off too! I sucked it up & let it go. I asked the heffa about designs & she looked at me like I slapped her mother & said we don't do designs on toes so I looked & said you definitely do because I get designs EVERY TIME I come so then she changed up & directed me to the wall of designs. I showed her a design & said I want this in BRIGHT colors & she nodded her head yes. She does the design and puts a big a** white flower so I pointed out my design was supposed to be with bright colors & she lies and says no you said white so I said no I said bright colors don't lie because you screwed up. Out of frustration I said leave it so she gets to the other toe and does a completely different flower so I told her they were different & asked her yo fix it & she got an attitude & took it off of both toes & got up! The French design that was supposed to be on the other toes are crooked and sloppy as hell no silver like under them or anything. I've never wanted to smack a nail tech before today! I paid for a design so it should have been done right! How it's acceptable to get an attitude & walk away from a paying customer is mind blowing! John just lost a customer! Idk if they think they're above it all because they upgraded or not but I'm not beat for it! The old me would have turned the place inside out but they're not even worth it to the new me! I recently had the opportunity to have a full-set and pedicure at Krystal Nail's. Jon, my manicurist was very friendly, (he's the one that greets you at the door) he worked at a fast pace and finished quickly without sacrificing the quality of the work completed. Maria did my feet and was gentle (I don't like my feet man-handled) and did a phenomenal job as well. For the neighborhood/location, the prices are a tad higher than you would get i.e. downtown Newark or in Brooklyn or Queens but the people of Maplewood and Neighboring Vauxhall can afford to cough up a few extra bucks for convenient location and good quality services. It gets VERY busy on Fridays & Saturdays so I would steer clear, specifically during these times. I only gave 3 stars because of lack of seating for awaiting customers during peak-times, lack of tenders taken (other than cash) and lack of incentives to keep customers coming back i.e. Free nail design with purchase, get 5 fill-in's, get one free, etc. read more

i had a manicurist named kevin. he was very rude& unfriendly !! i am paying customer first time there & last time ! he associated with the regular customers and not me. i told him he needs to be friendly so i can come back and also explained to the other customers too. i tipped him, he didn't say thank you, & i got acrylic nails, he got a attitude because i didn't want crystal...he did my nails nice and it didn't hurt, but one of the nails was cracked after he finished and he didn't fix it...beware if this place, horrible customer service !!!! read more
