I had my first ever prenatal massage with Minako. In addition to email confirmation, I received a text confirmation the day before. Unlike older review photos that show a storefront, the spa is now located in a residential setting. Lots of free parking along O'ahu Ave and close to Mānoa Marketplace if you need to run errands/want to grab a bite to eat afterwards! When you arrive, you will fill out a brief intake form and the masseuse will review the information with you to make sure they understand what areas to focus on/avoid. There is a restroom inside. The massage room has a portable AC so the temperature is cool without being too cold when you get undressed. Make sure to close the blinds when you're getting undressed/dressed! I kept forgetting lol. Everything was very clean and tidy. For my prenatal massage (I am currently in my early second trimester) I started on one of my sides, switched to the other, and then was on my back for the last part. Minako was great about making sure that I felt comfortable and gently guided my arms/legs when I needed to be re-positioned. The pressure was perfect for me--not too deep but still effective. The massage oil they use is either unscented or very lightly scented. I'm usually sensitive to heavy scents but did not have any side effects. They wipe the area they massaged with a warm towel before you switch to a new position but a final warm towel is also provided to you afterwards to use as needed when you're getting dressed. I received a refreshing cup of water afterwards and Minako advised me to stay hydrated and avoid strenuous activity for the rest of the day. She mentioned that my hips feel tight (which surprised me since I've been having hip pain as a pregnancy symptom but hadn't explicitly mention this to her). I tried out this gem because I won an incentive prize through work. Ku day spa is located in manoa, in a residential home, converted to a cute, peaceful escape. Parking was easy on Oahu Ave. My masseuse Minako was incredibly communicative throughout the 60 min massage session, and was sure to check that temperature and pressure was appropriate. I had a Swedish massage, but they also do deep tissue, sports, and cranial in 60 min and 90 min increments. The massage itself was exactly as described, relaxing and got all my tight spots I didn't know existed. Booking was easy online, and they sent numerous follow up emails and texts to be sure I didn't miss my day of bliss! We use a non-greasy aqua based oil to pour a constant, gentle flow on your forehead which will stimulate between the eyebrow point that connects to the pituitary gland in the brain. The spa is nestled in a residential neighborhood so you might hear the occasional barking dog or car, mainly because the spa music isn't overbearing which I am totally okay with. I'm always cold so I appreciate that their temperature is always just right. Kori is so amazing!! Not only is she professional, but you can tell she has superior attention to detail. Loved everything about my experience at Ku Day Spa. It is a lovely little spa tucked away in beautiful Manoa valley. I live in close proximity so the location is great. Nobue (the owner) is professional and got back to me right away to schedule my appointment. I had 2 treatments here on 2 seperate occasions. I got a 90 min deep purifying facial from Kori which left my skin glowing and rejuvenated. She took her time especially during the extraction and was careful to make sure I was comfortable during my treatment. Will be back for more facials in the future. I came back a second time for a prenatal massage session with Nobue. What an amazing relaxing experience. I've had prenatal massages with my previous pregnancies and Nobue by far has been the best. She was very friendly, easy going and attentive to my needs. Applied just the right amount of pressure to help massage out all the kinks, relax my tight muscles and put me to sleep lol. This review is a long time coming, inspired by my recent visit to a different, upscale spa that made me realize how absolutely wonderful Nobue and her day spa are. No, there is no locker room here. There are no showers with hair dryers and free little combs and packets of shower caps you kind of want to pilfer. There are no fancy frosted glass doors or high ceilings or therapists that pop out of nowhere and disappear back to that nowhere after your session. There is Nobue, her beautiful little space, her incredible attention to detail, her impeccable service and her magical hands. I felt relaxed here. I never feel relaxed. I am a high anxiety person who has a constant internal dialogue that sometimes makes me feel as though I may be crazy. So being relaxed enough to fall asleep is... strange. Nobue makes you feel like more than a client, you are a friend and she cares about you. Which is a wonderful way to feel when you are butt naked and have a lot of knots in your muscles. I have now experienced a whole two spas, this one and a very expensive one that can easily be found in another review. Ahem. And I would, hands down, choose Ku. And you should, too. Ku Day Spa is located in Manoa. The location is nice and quiet with plenty of street parking. The interior is clean and quiet-- really gives off a peaceful vibe. Upon entering, I was told to wash my hands. I got a French facial from Kori. Kori is very detailed when giving a facial and takes her time. She doesn't rush and makes sure you're comfortable especially when she is squeezing the hard and big pores. I felt rejuvenated at the end of facial. Kori offered me some water to hydrate and gave me post instructions on how to take care of my face. I asked Kori how I should take care the redness underneath my nose from wearing face masks. She asked me about my regimens and what I used-- from there she gave me advice and gave me samples to try. She's really great and knowledgeable. I will definitely go there again! ONE LINE: Amazing treatments in a really relaxing spa KU: ...Day Spa is located in Manoa, in the same building as Chocolea. They're located upstairs--you walk through the open garage that's to the right of Chocolea and then turn left (there's a helpful sign). Around the corner, you'll see stairs that take you to the 2nd floor. Ku has a sign right outside their door. The spa itself has such a relaxing environment--you feel the tension start to evaporate as soon as you step inside the doors. I had Nobue for my massage and Kori for my facial. My massage was soooooo relaxing (the perfect amount of pressure) and after my facial, my skin looked and felt so much cleaner! With the facial, I thought it was neat that Ku uses Japanese sheet masks instead of the typical creamy paint-on kind. After your treatments, they give you a nice, big glass of jar with a spritz of citrus in it. It's so refreshing and you leave the spa in such a good mood. PS: Parking was really easy (on the street but there's tons of places to park). After your massage, you can treat yourself to Chocolea (their chocolate dipped mango is my favorite) or pick up some treats for your pups at Hawaii Doggie Bakery. Making an appointment was really easy--you can call (or text) the number. I needed to find a great massage therapist to work out kinks in my neck, shoulder, and back. I work out regularly, so my muscles are always tight (in not a good way) and a good massage is key. I was thrilled to see a banner for Ku when I was driving home one afternoon and noted it on my list of places to try and I am so glad I did! I called in the morning to schedule an appointment. Unfortunately, I didn't get to speak to anyone but I was able to leave a message. About 15 minutes later, I received a call from Nobue stating that she had an opening for a 60 minute massage that afternoon. So of course I booked it! I got there about 15 minutes prior to my appointment to fill out standard paperwork. Nobue asked if I ever got a massage and what are my problem areas. I explained to her what was bothering me and that I take barre classes regularly, and she knew exactly what muscles needed to be worked on, since she has clients who do the same thing--even better! The pressure she applied to me was perfect and I felt so relaxed the entire time. I even fell asleep, which has never happened to me in the past while getting a massage. I made facial appointments with Kori last week for me and my daughter. This spa was highly recommended by a friend and now i know why. The location was in a neighborhood away from the touristy areas. The spa itself is very clean and aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. Kori is such a sweet and professional person and esthetician. I am very happy and impressed with her techniques. It's even very hard to describe in words how pleased i am with my facial experience with her and i have tried many spas. My daughter had the same experience and will definitely be coming back to Kori regularly as she lives on the island. As for me, I am only sad about one thing-- that I am from California and cannot go back to Kori as often as i would like. I am certainly looking forward to my next visit to Oahu in a few months. Nobue has been doing my facial once a month for three months now. I have large pores and oily skin. I get the Ocean Glow microdermabrasion Treatment once a month. After my First treatment i noticed that all my blackheads were gone. My face looked cleaner and healthier. My pores stayed clean for about one week for me. The second treatment was 4 weeks later. My pores stayed clean for about two weeks. (Remember that i have always had large pores) Now after my 3rd treatment my pores are noticeably smaller. My husband and coworkers commented that my skin looks great and even said that my pores are smaller now. I always thought that my pores could never get smaller. This is for real. After years of getting botox and fillers I have noticed more improvement and healthier skin from the microdermabrasion treatments with Nobue. I was in dire need of a massage. My neck hurt, my shoulders hurt, and my back hurt. So, I looked up spas nearby and Ku popped up. I made an appointment for a hot stone massage. The heat penetrated deep into my sore muscles and the relaxation started. The music was soft and soothing. The aromatherapy used was kind of minty. It was a bright and spacious room with a beachy decor. I asked my masseuse to pay extra attention to my problem areas and boy did she! She found the knots and worked them all out. Ku Day Spa was nothing short of perfect. Located on the corner of Lowrey Ave. and E. Manoa Road, it is nestled in Manoa Valley away from all the traffic and bustle of our hectic lives. You must remove your shoes when you get there. Their staff is so kind and friendly, they immediately make you feel welcomed. The place itself is very cute and peaceful with sky blue walls and calming music. I got a 90min French facial from Kori. This included a head and arm massage. I was so relaxed the entire time. I myself do it have perfect skin and have a lot of redness and post acne scars. They do have scar treatments and I plan to try them one day, but decided to start with a facial. After the facial, I immediately found my face feeling fresh and rejuvenated. The redness and gone down and I noticed a visible change in the size of my pores. After the facial was over Kori offered me some water which was the finishing touch to the experience. I am so glad I found this place, and definitely plan on coming back again! read more
