02/19/2025 Came in for my 3000 mile oil change. I was told by Kuan that Honda raised prices on their oil that it's not worth carrying anymore. Basically there's no difference between Honda and Toyota oil. He said for $61 I can have the Toyota oil with a Honda oil filter. Or $55 for a synthetic blend oil that he uses for Nissan, Mazda and Kia cars. To me oil is oil, he said I can go to Walmart and get the oil I want and he can do the change for me. Why hassle it? I went with the Toyota oil. He checks tire pressure and top off other fluids in the car as well. read more

I visited Kuan's Auto Repair at around 3:30 PM on Friday Dec 3rd, and had an awesome experience. I've been stressed about finding a honest, reputable auto shop to service my car. I've been taking my 2019 Hyundai Elantra back to the dealer for all servicing for the past 2 years (lol I know I've been getting ripped off). However, after not being able to make an appt with them for the next 1.5 months, I finally had to take my car elsewhere since I was due for an oil change and tire rotation. My in-laws have been taking all of their cars to Kuan (pronounced koon btw...lol I didn't know). He's not only nice, patient, reputable but extremely honest. I called Monday in the afternoon to make an appointment. Kuan picked up rather quickly and said the earliest time he had was Thursday afternoon. I asked if Friday would be okay and he recommended for me to call him back on Friday, 2 hours before I'm able to come. So I did and he was able to squeeze me in at around 4pm. When I arrived at around 3:30 PM, he was still helping out another customer so I just parked my car and waited. When it was my turn (a little after 4pm), I wasn't sure if my car took reg or synthetic oil, but he showed me how to check under the hood. We decided that it was best to stick with 5-20w oil (which was listed on my engine). He also told me that the dealer was putting in 5-30w engine oil, which was actually lowered quality oil, in my car in my past services. I also learned some info about my car (I'm a noob okay) and he didn't seem judgmental but was extremely patient to answer my questions. He helped me change my oil (reg $40) and rotate my tires ($20) for a total of $60. He was not upset that he had to work past his closing time (he closes at 5PM) and he actually finished a little after 5:30 PM. I appreciate him for his honest character, patience, and how nice he is! I also wanted to point out that his auto expertise is primarily in Japanese cars (ie. Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Acura, Nissan, Subaru, Mazda, etc.) He does a few Hyundais and if he has the parts available, he said he would be able to help me. Note that he doesn't service German or American cars. All in all, Kuan's gained himself a repeat customer! I am more than happy to recommend him and come back in the future. read more

I recently came back to drop off my car for an oil change. Dropped off the car in the morning and the car was done by noon. Kuan told me to come back at 4pm the same day. Came back and started working on my car. He was super careful with my car and we had a nice conversation about car care and tips. After retiring my 2009 Honda Pilot, I got another Japanese car. Kuan's able to work on 2019s which is perfect. Finally brought my 2019 Lexus F-Sport RX to Kuan's for my 15K (after Longo Lexus' two free complimentary oil changes). Kuan has fully synthetic Toyota motor oil (or Honda) available for your newer cars. It'll cost you more but still tons cheaper than the dealer's price. My family and I have trusted Kuan's for many years, we'll still bring our Japanese cars here. read more

I can't recommend Kuan enough! If not for him, I wouldn't have known where or what part of my car needs to be fixed, looked after. Came in for an oil change and discovered being scammed, cut corners by other repair shops. From now on, I will only go to Kuan's for all my needs. Kuan is the mechanic I've been trying to look for ever since Kerechuk's Motor Service closed down . He's very honest, knowledgeable, and his prices are VERY fair and if anything is cheap for the quality of work you're getting. I got an oil change and tire rotation for my 2019 civic si ( 4 quarts of Genuine Honda 0w-20 + honda oem filter) for just $80. That's a bargain compared to how much dealerships and other reputable mechanics charge. And don't even start with the shady mechanics that are everywhere throughout the 626, you'll regret ever taking your car to them. His price is always very reasonable and he is always very honest with your car problems. He would not try to upsell you. I've tried getting quotes from other auto shops but I always come back to him. I go to Kuan for my routine oil changes and he does quality maintenance checks too. One of those oil changes, I had some "mild leak" of oil due to some cracked metal piece (powertrain). Kuan honestly referred me to the Honda Dealer as he knew my car miles was still under warranty and basically saved me $$$! He caters to his own race Asian customers. I've been coming for years like 18 plus years and still treats me like crap. He doesn't know how to prioritize his work and wants to take on all the jobs when he knows he can't. His loyal customers he just puts them on the back burner when he should set them as priority.Think twice about coming with him because he needs to be more up front or finish the easy jobs first then take on the overhauls. I've been taking my cars to Kuan for about 7 years now, nothing major, mostly maintenance lately with newer cars. But my first visit I took my Acura which was around 12 years old and having some minor issues. What really impressed me was the car was rumbling with a lot of vibration. When Kuan sat down in the car he immediately diagnosed it as nothing but a broken motor mount. I had some other minor issues and he was able to McGyver some really creative solutions to save me a lot of money given that he knew I wasn't keeping the car much longer. The other thing you'll notice is Kuan seems to have a photographic memory. Between the first time I brought my Acura and my next new car, at least a couple years must have passed but he remembered me. I am not sure how there are so many five star reviews. My car was stalling and a check engine light came on so I had it towed to Kuan Auto Repair. Even before the tow truck guy offloaded my vehicle, Kuan says: "get rid of the car." I ask if he can at least scan the check engine light code and he tells me it will be $60. Thanks. Any auto parts shop will take 1 minute to scan it for free. So I called ANOTHER tow truck to come tow me back home. The tow truck driver is in disbelief that Kuan would not even look at the car or scan it. He tows me back to my place, pulls out his scanner, and 1 minute later determines it's the mass airflow sensor. I buy a cleaner at auto zone and 15 minutes later the car is running again. $6 and a trip to auto zone. Oh, and having to pay for two tow trucks. I would have gladly paid Kuan to clean the sensor or even replace the thing. Even if it were a few hundred dollars. But I guess he does not like to work on cars. My car (2014 Corolla) started making noises and the AC stopped working so I came here on my friend's recommendation. Kuan was quick to diagnosis the problem and was able to narrow down the issue. He provided an estimate and upon further inspection realized that the bracket was missing and screws were damaged and only a small part needed to be replaced. He was quick to notify me and ordered the parts. He gave me a new estimate and saved me money. He is very honest and to the point. He is a great communicator and makes sure you are aware what is going on. He uses genuine dealership parts unless you specify, though he will ask you before proceeding. Several of my friends recommended me to come to Kuan's Auto Repair for a routine oil change. The entire procedure was very effortless and efficient. I called ahead to schedule an appointment for the oil change before coming. Kuan seemed to be quite knowledgable about my car. He also pointed out that the previous place that performed my oil change had put in a cheap oil filter. The best part about this place is the fact that I received personalized service. It is nice to just talk to a knowledgable mechanic who is actually working on your car. If you went to other places, you likely would not get that kind of interaction. You can't miss him. He's the one wearing the blue mechanic jumpsuit with his name affixed onto it. The price at $30 was reasonable for my oil change. I will definitely return back here for my future oil changes. One of things that makes Kuan the best in the business is his ability to educate and inform the customer about maintaining and fixing your car. For example, today, as I am waiting for my oil change to finish up. Kuan had informed me about the recall for my front airbags and as a lyft driver, I would definitely need to be aware of that in case of a situation. Usually I go there 15mins before their opening hours, and there are high chances of start off from your vehicle right away. I go there mostly for oil changes, they do provide OEM Honda oil and the pricing is really reasonable. Though I have seen customer calling ahead of time to schedule an appointment if that works for your case.
