Do yourself a favor and COME TO THIS GUY'S SHOP. The owner (I presume) is Chao. His honesty and good work saved my mom from $8000 of repairs - and all it took was $200. Also, Longo Toyota can go to hell. Quick story: Mom's Lexus battery was replaced by AAA, but something happened and the engine bay started smoking. Took it to her dealership, Longo Toyota, and was told the coolant leaked into the engine (??) something like that. The total repairs would cost $8k. Absolutely insane. Wanted a second opinion and folks on Reddit recommended this auto shop. Had the car towed here and Chao inspected the damages. He replaced something that only took 2 hours and a $125 part, and the car was totally fixed. In total, he charged us $200. Chao knew we weren't knowledgeable about cars yet was super honest with the repair. I now trust him 100% with all of my future car problems. Bought a used Camry for one of my sons. After driving a while, the check engine light came on. Took the vehicle to another shop; they changed a small hose, reset the light, but the check engine light came back on after driving several miles. I decided to take it to Silver Star instead upon a referral from a friend. Chau is a master mechanic and explained in detail what the codes could mean and all the parts that could be affected that may need replacement. He kept the car a couple days to thoroughly inspect all the areas based on the codes that may cause the check engine light to come on. Chau was honest and said the previous owner must have taken this vehicle to another shop because upon inspection, he could see that those parts are new and have all ready been replaced. The only thing they missed was a burnt wire and connector. A dishonest mechanic would have changed everything(or claim to have changed the parts) and would have charged the unsuspecting customer. Impeccable services. Chau and his team are exceptional and knowledgeable. Their prices are great and very honest. In the past, I've always taken my vehicle and family's vehicles to auto shops in Rosemead, San Gabriel, or the northern side of El Monte. Never will I go to those places again as they keep chopping me up on their overpriced and underwhelmed work. I was actually recommended by a friend here back in 2018 to get my old Acura ILX worked up- mainly oil change, tire rotations, battery, etc. So I've been their customer since 2018. I've brought in a Toyota Tundra to have them repair body damages, and they were able to take care of it promptly by replacing it, and the paint job is just magnificent...think it costed about $1100ish. Other places would've slapped on some whacked unnecessary replacements and take their sweet time and charge like $3k-$4k cuz they claim insurance and all that random bs stuff. I've also brought my mother's minivan to get its maintenance and change the window-- they were able to take care of me on that. They've never let me down. They don't fix things that don't look broken and will educate you why-- and if your car has warranty (and they know), they will always tell you to take it to the dealership first to have them take care of it, otherwise, bring it back here. Languages- Chau speaks vietnamese, cantonese, and english. The other guy (Alex?) speaks Spanish and English. And there's another mechanic he speaks Vietnamese and just light English. All of them have helped me, so they are all AMAZING. They open on Saturdays in the morning. Otherwise, they're a regular 9-5 on weekdays. Call them in advance just in case if you have big problems like major car repair, dashboard lights go haywire, etc. For little stuff like oil change, tire rotations, batteries, wipers, etc...just bring it in. After looking through Yelp for reliable mechanic ships around the area, I came across Chau! For real, right when I called him and told him about all the findings that the Nissan dealership has told me. He was so honest and told me that some of the findings were not true, especially since my car had only 30k miles. He told me to just drop by whenever I wanted and he'll take a look at it. This Saturday afternoon, an hour and a half before he closed, I called him to see if I could come in and he was more than welcoming. I got to his shop by 1:30pm and was out of there by 2:15pm! He checked on his computer about the transmission fluid and brake fluid that Nissan had told me to get fixed, and he said that based on my model and year, I wouldn't need to replace either. He did install a new in cabin and engine air filter but he charged so much less than Nissan and did it very quickly too! Honest and great mechanics, took my Jeep in for what I thought was a blown head gasket ($2,800+ for repair) because I was told by another mechanic elsewhere that was my issue and why I was overheating. The owner of the shop told me he thinks it could be my water pump which is a significantly less costly repair. They replaced my water pump and my Jeep has been running perfectly since. Chau is a saint. Above and beyond. The most honest person/mechanic I've ever known. Thus why I've been coming for years. Literally just saved me over $500.00 today. I went to a different shop(stupid), and was recommended a whole new AC compressor. To save money I ordered the part from RockAuto, I got it, went back to the shop, and they didn't have time to install it. A week goes by, and I think...let me ask Chau(that should have been my first thought) to install it. He's like...there's nothing wrong with your compressor(all tested right in front of me, totally transparent), send that part back and get your money. You have a leak, could be a hose. What is the most important trait in a mechanic? Honesty. Besides being very fairly price Chau is the most honest mechanic ever. First of all, 50 bucks for a full-synthetic oil change? Hell yeah 2nd, 10 dollars for a tire rotation? Yeah!! I asked him about a spark plugs change, and he was like , naaaaaaah you probably don't need that at 60k. He also showed me how much it was cost - 300 for labor just it self and 24 per sparkplugs (I have 4). This would be around 400 (which is much cheaper than everywhere else that quoted me averaging 750) Turns out, the spark plugs is part of the 60k service maintenance; but at least I know if I take it to Chao to handle, its gonna be cheaper here than anywhere else. 1. I went in for an oil change and wanted to check to see if I had a leak or burning of oil. They did the oil change and visual check with no additional charge. They also rotated the tires without me requesting it. It was extra service that I wasn't expecting. I would definitely come back to do any work on my car again. They really are a 5 star establishment. I went to another place in the nearby area and they were not quite as nice as these guys. It's hard finding an honest mechanic but they were great! read more

Just got my oil changed here... $45 for a regular conventional oil change seems to be way too expensive. They also don't give you a proper receipt (work done, oil added etc). The receipt was just a small piece of paper with the amount paid on it. I'm not sure where all these good reviews come from. The work may be good (I don't know), but definitely not a good value. read more

Dishonest and a rip off. I brought my Lexus in because of a cylinder misfiring, and upfront the owner told me that it was going to cost $2,200 because of a cylinder head and $250 to do an inspection. Silver Star has been amazing! They not only helped me fix the oil leak of a bmw 325 but found other issues that they were able to show me like timing belt which is kind of hidden from atop but very visible when the car is in the lift. Mr. Chau and all of his mechanics are amazing human beings that know a lot about cars are very honest, humble and knowledgeable at what they do. Give them a try, they are very good at fixing any mechanical issues from the root so that you won't have future problems. Alright my review is long overdue. I once had a used 2001 Honda Civic. I had some problems with it, and brought it to Silver Star Auto Repair. Ryan told me from the very start that I should just get a brand new car because the amount I would pay to fix my Civic is not worth it. He advised that it would be better for me to use my money to buy a new car. At first I did not heed his advice, and I just told him that I wanted my car fixed. In the end, Ryan was right. He referred me to a friend of his who owned a car dealership and was able to get myself a brand new 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. If it weren't for Ryan's honesty as a mechanic and advice, I probably would still have that Civic. With my MItsubishi, I now come to Ryan for my oil changes and tire rotations. And I will be coming back for anything else I need when it comes to car advice, repairs, and the like. Ryan is an honest man. And having an honest mechanic is a great thing!
