We went here last night for dinner, it was my wife's choice, I wasn't thrilled with the menu. The food turned out to be very good, I was surprised and pleased. To start my wife has wanted fried clams, they weren't on the menu but the kitchen was very accommodating and fried up some clams and served them with French fries. For dinner she had tuna which she loved, I had a seafood quesadilla with scallop, shrimp and other seafood. Wait list is a bit confusing but they did seat our party of 6, (4 adults two kids ) within 10 minutes of the time they said we would be seated. Kubel's is a top tier, consistent, and absolutely worthy restaurant to visit. The atmosphere is relaxed, fun and well kept. Our host was very sweet and quick once we arrived, and the Manager welcomed us as we sat. The service is very respectable. This is all worthy in it's own right, however, the food is unmistakably quality. Various seafood dishes, the classic K Burger, and cool drinks to summarize this great menu. Visited this place last weekend , food was way overpriced for what we got . We had two pasta dishes on our table , both of them were horrible, no flavor at all , after we asked for salt and pepper we were waiting for 20 minutes. And nobody is cleaning tables. Just left with my husband after having a pleasant lunch. Service and food were fine. However after finishing and getting to our car in the lot, we noticed a sticky note on our windshield that stated "F-U chinks". Never has this type of racism happened to us before. Absolutely disheartening. Just wanted to warn others who may experience this type of racism simply for going out to enjoy lunch on a beautiful fall day. Truly don't understand how so many morons actually gave this place a good review. Maybe because there's no such thing as good food down jersey shore. The lobster Mac n cheese had green beans in it. Green beans...I'll let that sink in. Scallops brought out in a hot dish you'd find for classic microwave use. The pierogies are truly the most disgusting thing anyone could eat. Soaked in a runny snot goop. Absolutely horrific!! Then they had some special that was chicken tenders in a aoili/pesto style pasta that was atrocious. We were probably charged over $30 for it too being it was a special. The only thing decent was the veal parm which is never worth $28 anywhere, even in NYC. If I ever get time, I'll chuck a brick through their window just to feel somewhat justified. Oh don't let forget about their famous clam chowder. So, so gross -- my lips still feel greasy an hour later. We really wanted to like this place (Anthony RIP), but instead got a disappointing reminder of what it's like to eat at a restaurant that truly just doesn't care anymore. TLDR; oily, underseasoned, doesn't match the menu description, shoulder-to-shoulder seating, bad service, no no no We should have taken the hint and left as soon as we read the bottom of their printed menu (and I wish I'd taken a picture) -- "we use nuts in our cooking process" -- whatever that means -- and we are "NOT responsible for food allergies". Oh also, if you're gluten intolerant, you should bug off too. My poor shy 13 year old, who has done a great job of following up her food orders with "oh and I have a peanut/tree nut allergy", looked at me wide-eyed and said, "what does that mean??" (As visions of EpiPens danced through her head.) P.S. you can't have anything that's fried here if you have an allergy -- "it's all fried together". (Guess that excludes the vegetarians too.) Ok, so aside from the intolerance of food allergies and dietary restrictions, everything just exudes apathy. We ordered the steamed clams appetizer. The clams were gritty/dirty (yum! sand!) and were served sitting in their own cooking water. (What?!) The online menu -- the one with actual prices -- said that the clams came "with breadstick", so I expected at least one dough-based product -- nada. The house vinaigrette looks like store-bought and tastes like vegetable oil. No really, ONLY vegetable oil, like my salad was a giant pile slick. (I grabbed the red wine vinegar from my husband, which kinda fixed it... somewhat.) The broiled scallops entree said, "broiled with a lemon buerre blanc and topped with seasoned bread crumbs." No breadcrumbs, barely broiled, almost no lemon in the buerre blanc -- I can't tell you the last time I've had to use a pepper shaker at the table, let alone the salt! No seasoning = greasy yuck. My husband ordered the broiled scallops with risotto: "broiled scallops and asparagus and wild mushroom risotto". What he got was broiled scallops and asparagus-wild mushroom risotto. (I really think a normal person would have expected actual asparagus spears, not a few bites mixed into an underseasoned risotto.) My kids -- thank God -- mostly enjoyed their food. My son was particularly happy with the kid's personal pepperoni pizza. ("The cheese is put on it just like DiGiornos!"). My daughter enjoyed her BBQ ribs -- beautiful smoke ring -- but the smashed potatoes were weird. I like putting sour cream on my smashed potatoes, but these seemed made with something more like cream cheese or something? The tables inside are so close, I don't know how the fire marshall hasn't shut them down -- staff had a few inches to pass between the back of my chair and the back of the chair behind me. Constantly. That was fun. All of my husband's food came out wrong the first time -- wrong salad dressing, wrong entree. And lest you think it's just us, the woman behind us ordered steak (maybe?) and had asked the server if its sauce came on the side. It came with some frou-frou painting of three different sauces coating the right half of her plate and under the meat, and the server said to her, "Yeah, see? It's on the side." Kubels has always been pricey and a little fussy with the food but the dishes were always delicious. Not anymore. Let's start with dry sesame rolls (not just one, ALL of them). No prices on the menu, and we knew why when the check came. Over $70 for a crab cake entree (which were delicious btw, but the green beans that came with them were tasteless and the side salad was plain lettuce with a few shreds of carrots and a grape tomato or two - $38? Nah.) no drinks, no apps, a French onion soup that was so salty it was inedible, and a tasty entree salad with papaya and candied walnuts. But with a tip it came to $85. No thank you. read more

Beautiful location and super staff. No reservations and at 5:00 on a Friday, got seats right away. Good was served quickly. I liked the fact that the New England Clam Chowder was not a stock, meaning brought in from a wholesaler. Chicken was perfect can I even had some left to bring home. Excellent indoor seating. The food quality here has really gone downhill since our visit last fall. The salad was a mass of giant leaves that were impossible to cut let alone eat. The dinner rolls were so hard I could have broken a tooth on them. The $31 crab pie, which I've had and enjoyed many times in the past, was incredibly bland this time, very skimpy on crab, and was topped with a huge piece of very dried out puff pastry. (Outdoor dining review) This place has a huge outdoor dining space - one on the patio, one under a tent and one on the back deck. All of the staff were extremely nice and accommodating. They have a lunch menu and dinner menu - so they might tell you that you have to wait for the dinner menu to start (around 5pm?) if you arrive around 3-4. I understand a lot of places do this but I think it'a unnecessary to tell customers to wait and risk them leaving :/ Overall, the food is reasonably priced and portions are generous. I was happy to find and try Kubel's for the first time at this location. Went to Kubel's too plenty of times before they closed. I was extremely satisfied with the menu here. We had the bacon wrapped scallops with bacon jam on top with mashed sweet potatoes, lobster bisque, clam chowder, clam strips and a very tasty lobster roll that was overflowing with chunks of delicious lobster meat seasoned well with capers included. The scallops were cooked to perfection and very clean.I will make this a must visit during our annual vacation. The staff was very friendly, professional and courteous. Kubels review.... 5 stars We called knowing it is a Saturday night on the island. We were told to go on yelp waitlists and put in our reservation. We did, 30 min out, as we were on the overpass. We got there and checked in with a short wait. When it was our turn we were asked if a spot in the sun was ok for us or if we would like to wait. We took the table on the porch with a beautiful view of the sunset over the water. Order our drinks, which arrived quickly. We were even brought water right away without having to ask. That was very much appreciated. Upon serving our drinks, I noticed our server wearing gloves, I asked if they were latex, and they were. Being highly allergic to latex our server went back and put on food grade gloves and used them the whole time we were there, even to serve other tables, just to make sure he never touched anything we could possibly have been brought with a latex one. Above and beyond! We ordered three meals, the Tavern steak for my son. ( I could not get a picture of this one because he dug in so fast). He loved it. My husband got the scampi 3 ways. He said everything was cooked to perfection and loved it. I had the soft shell crabs in a lemon caper which was magnificent. Lightly breaded with a lot of flavor. I highly recommend them. I really enjoyed this place. Parking can be tight in Barnegat Light when the weather is really nice, but they have their own huge parking lot. The bar here is pretty basic, nothing fancy, but does the trick. Great for beer and mixed drinks. The service staff here were very friendly. The food is amazing! Had the New England Clam Chowder, it was thick (not soupy) and creamy. The lobster Mac and cheese appetizer was awesome, it had tomatoes, large pieces of lobster, asparagus and amazing cheese. It looks small, but I was pretty full eating that. The turkey club was HUGE, it could easily feed 2 people. The crab panini with brie was great as well. The fries are delicious!! read more

Time to update: The people who've taken over the restaurant have transformed it. They now have a back deck that's lovely to eat on and that allows the bay breezes to blow covid away. And they hired a chef! We've been a few times this summer (they don't take reservations but you can put your name on a waitlist on the yelp app.) The quality is consistent. It's very good, the tuna special especially. Now all they need is outdoor heaters to extend the season! read more
