I love a good shore bar and Kubel's did not disappoint! My friend said that this was a spot Anthony Bourdain featured on Parts Unknown, and also a place he would bring his family on trips to LBI. We thought it would be nice to grab a beer in his honor and check it out for ourselves. There was a 10-15 minute wait for a table but there were available high tops in the bar area. The bar is on the dark side but other parts of the restaurant seemed brighter. Our friendly server had our round of drinks out in record time, along with our order of garlic steamers, fries, and crab dip. We had a great experience here. Ordered the mussels in white sauce and tuna tacos. Mussels were on the small side, but good. This chef knows what he's doing because he knocked it out of the park with those tacos! Delicious sushi grade tuna with seaweed. Very flavorful. Pick up charges equal to 10% of your bill and they don't tell you about it when you call in they just add it on... You try to support your local businesses during this pandemic and this is the thanks you get. Other people are impacted by the current COVID situation too, adding fees to their bill without telling them is not good business. Generally I like some of the items here but this made me mad. The seafood burrito was not good. I'd suggest you ask if your customers would like to tip like most places are doing, I would have tipped more and not have been upset if you were honest. read more

Went the other night and the food was great! I got the chicken lily, which was really good. I loved the cheese on top. My mom got the crab cakes and really loved that they actually had real crab in them. She said she wasn't hungry, but then ended up eating both of the crab cakes hay came on the order. Salads before the meal were fresh and you can tell they have good fresh ingredients. There was a wait and we had to wait a little long, but the food was worth it! Plus we were able to put our names on the list from the no wait app, which sped up the process of waiting for the table. Just be patient. The food and service is worth it! Stopped for a drink and my honey was smelling a great kitchen. One of the special of the night appetizers was shrimp scampi potato pierogis. Crazy good. In a garlic butter sauce with fresh chopped tomatoes and scallions. Crispy skins. Needed bread to finish the sauce. Great bar keep/waiter Tyler, Paula liked his game. Sharp young man. It was a very cool place on bay side of the island. They had a lot of specials to choose from and they had a good amount on the menu. Personally not much for me to pick from considering I am a bit of a picky eater and was there for one thing that they ended up not having on their menu. The French onion had way too much cheese. Normally I love cheese but I wasn't feeling the Swiss on it. The broth was a bit bland and just had a hint of pepper to it. The onions didn't seem to carmelize too. I got a burger too which was okay but the bun was too thin. I'd prefer a thicker bun so when I pick it up I'm not touching a soggy bun or the patty. I would give this place no stars if I could. The service was beyond horrible. We had reservations for "7:42" and arrived at 7:39 and were seated right of way. We had about 25 minutes to look over the menu and never had one waiter or waitress come to our table. We asked to speak to the manager and come to find out the Manager is also a waiter/manager/owner. Went back to Kubels again. We were there about a month ago and I decided to return because the crab cakes were so good and they were equally as good this time however the never brought rolls and butter either time until I asked even though it says it comes with the meal. When they finally brought them last time they were very stale and this time they were so stale I brought them home to feed the seagulls and they wouldn't even eat them. The vegetables were also very bland both visits. Maybe if they read the reviews and tried to improve things that are consistently bad they would have happier patrons. I quess with little competition in the summer they don't feel that's it necessary to try to improve. read more

Love love love! My favorite LBI restaurant. Usually get the New England clam chowder and fish tacos which are great when they use grouper. If you arrive by 5 pm you will likely get a table with no need to use the waitlist which works fine if you come later. Prices are a bit higher this year - summer '22 - as they are everywhere but there are very good options if you don't want to spend a fortune - chicken sandwich, burgers, shrimp cocktail appetizer - and their sweet potato and regular fries and home made chips are excellent. So I've been to this location before and after renovation. I loved the old bar, but the new added some smart design changes. Still rustic, but improved bar flow. The house made soups and chowders are great. Daily specials are fresh and thoughtful. We continue to come back! read more

We went on Sunday night (9/10/21)after kite festival at Barnegat light. We have been there before and our impression didn't get any better. My wife's fish and chips were like frozen Mrs Paul's fish sticks and my grouper over linguini with crab meat was just OK at best. It needed more lemon sauce and seasoning or something. The linguini was pretty dry. I had NE clam chowder and although it had good flavor the clams were tough and chewy. For $78 with a couple of beers it should have been much better. Unfortunately I don't think there will be another visit. Maybe a time for some new cooks in the kitchen. Really.... read more

Definitely come here if you want a great meal. There was a huge wait due to it being peak season and dinner time, but the wait was worth it. Excellent and friendly staff. Kubel's has a fun atmosphere and really good food. Service was excellent and our waitress did a great job taking care of us. This place has decent food but I would not go out of my way to come back here. We went because we were here for the weekend in January, it was one of the only places open, and within walking distance. The ambiance was nice. It was a little on the darker side, which I like, and we sat in front of the electric fireplace. We got drinks to start--amaretto on the rocks for $9 and a Corona Lite for $5. We got one of the specials, filet mignon and grilled shrimp for $30. It came with bread (plain and nothing special dinner rolls), soup or salad, and a side of some kind of potato (baked, fries, or mashed), or a vegetable. I got clam chowder and it was good and thick, although I've had better. The dinner salad was fresh and had lettuce, cherry tomatoes, carrots, and onion. The filets were decent but a little on the tough side. They were cooked correctly. The grilled shrimp were large and tasty but were served lukewarm on a bed of lettuce and tomato, which seemed odd. I was expecting hot grilled shrimp. They also came with a mustard dill sauce. I asked for that on the side and was glad I did, because I didn't like it. For dessert we shared a slice of cheesecake. It had a graham cracker crust and it was creamy and good. It came with a teaspoon sized drizzle of raspberry sauce, and a blob of canned whipped cream (why?). I could have done without that. The slice was on the small side. Overall, decent food and decent service so I would return, but not go out of my way to do so. read more

The family went to Kubel's for an adult birthday dinner. We arrived at 7:30 and were told by a really rude, older lady at the front, that we had a 45 minute or 1-hour​ wait! She took my cell number and said we would get a text when a table was ready. BTW, there were at least two 6 person tables open right behind her and they don't take reservations. We decided to go to the ​Surf City Hotel instead of waiting up to an hour at Kubel's. On our way to Surf City, 15 minutes later, I get a text that tells us our table is ready!!! WTF! read more

It's a Bar restaurant in Barnegat Light that has perfected its craft and they are nearly foolproof. ANYWAY kubels is a stones throw from my house and I love the food, it's always great and the prices for food and booze are so reasonable it's great. Compare that to some other nearby spots... Kubel's was my Savior of St Patrick's Day, amidst a state-wide de-guinnessing due to COVID-19. A brave squad of sanitized friendlies, Nick at the helm, manned the phones and prepared plates from the delicious March menu tonight for those willing to brave the streets of Barn Light Plates of corned beef and cabbage, piping hot, boiled potato on the side. Decent food overall, wouldnt get the mash potatoes as your side. Not too good of service , walked in the other day , sat down with my wife and kids and we watched waiters serve other people that just walked in , not us , we all sat there for 15 minutes no one came up, so i had to go up to the front and ask for someone to come serve us, food didnt take long to come , got a cheeseburger, and i understand this is mainly a seafood restaurant , but they cant make a simple burger? And asked for medium, got it back it was pink , but i digress , waiters are young low iq teens who have no clue what they are doing, i guarantee the cheif does not know the difference between charbroiled burgers, pepperjack burgers, they rush the food because the place is so busy , maybe if other places didnt close at 2 pm people wouldnt be crowded at kubels , no other places to eat on this side of the island , please stay away from this restaurant if i can even call it a restaurant more like a hospital food , very expensive as well, your entire family will be disappointed going here. read more
