Overrated and overpriced $20.50 Yaki udon noodles with pork and a few vegetables. Half bowl. Salty. Won't go back.

Overrated and overpriced. $20.50 for a half bowl of noodles with five ounces of pork, a few pieces of broccoli and I saw two green peppers? Yaki udon noodles. Sauce salty. The sauce tasted like the Teriyaki frozen noodle bowls from Sam's Club.

Nah! This spot was not it. The sushi was okay. The mango martini was delicious. The kake was not my taste. Excellent service. The bar section was interesting.

Went here on a week day with a friend. Service: excellent! Friendly staff Ambience: good, nothing stood out but cheerful and intimate. Food: I had the ramen, my fiend had the maki special rolls l. They were very good but the ramen was a tad too salty for my tastes (yes, even by ramen standards). Would I return? If I lived local, it's a good sushi option.

My spouse & I are new to the area, we are glad we came in for dinner to check this restaurant out!! The service was great, the server was very knowledgeable about the menu and was great at suggestions for sake- I wish I took a notation of her name, she was great!!! We ended up ordering two sushi rolls, chicken udon noodles and two bottles of sake. Everything was delicious! We will definitely be back again, this will now be our go to spot for sushi & sake! All the flavors were very fresh and hit the spot for our sushi craving. The restaurant itself had a very chill inviting ambience as a great mixture of music played to keep it trendy!!

Terrific service and vibe. We had no idea how hip Elgin is. Kubo is no exception. The sushi chef was accomodating for my request to have the sunamuno salad with tuna, instead of either shrimp or octopus. I can't get over how amiable and responsive the service is there. We were happy to find this gem en route to Ohare. It was worth barely making our flight!

We stopped by Kubo for lunch because most of the places are closed during lunch, especially on the weekends. The space is really cute and the decor is so unconventional. I loooved the soy sauce skateboard, like how cool is that!! Anyways, the staff were all super friendly and so welcoming. I had ordered the sashimi platter and my fiancé got the steak bento box. Both meals came with miso soup and salad. The miso soup was whatever, same as any other. The salad was okay, the sauce was a little more acidic than I would have liked. The sashimi platter was underwhelming. Mostly because each pieces were so teeny tiny that it barely filled me up. The steak bento came with a little bit more food. The steak was chewier than we both would have liked, it felt so tiring eating it. The gyoza and croquette was decent. We also had the lychee lemonade which sounded really good and looks really pretty, but it has this like taste that I can't explain. Definitely not what I was expecting, wasn't a fan. We loved the convenience of the hours and it's close to our place, and we could walk around for a bit after.

Udon Nomi is a place to get ramen and noodle soups. A pretty big menu of items to choose from. There's a lot of variety among the entrees and things. Came here after going by it and seeing it wasn't somewhere we've been before. It's kind of a small interior with mostly seating around the counter. That's not a bar because there's no alcohol here. Has a few good drinks. It's about $5 to get a lemonade. These come in added flavors like green apple and passionfruit. It's about $16 for an entree. Kind of a lot but it's big though. I got the Home Style Udon, which came in a bowl. This has scallions, shiitake, and tofu. She had the Veggie Miso Udon, which is similar. This has miso broth and mixed vegetables. A lot of other entrees including noodle plates if not wanting to eat out of a bowl. There's also bento boxes and that kind of stuff. Has quite a large variety of noodles to choose from. It's closed Mondays and Tuesdays. There's plenty for meat eaters as well as vegans and vegetarians.

We walked into a casual, cozy space with a smaller dining area that can feel busy during peak hours, but the atmosphere stays simple and focused on the food rather than a polished dining experience. The setup works well for a place centered around a warm bowl of noodles, where the attention stays on what is in the bowl rather than what is on the walls. The ramen is the main reason to visit, especially the signature Kitakata-style noodles. The noodles have a thicker, springy texture that gives each bowl a satisfying bite, and the broths are where the restaurant stands out. We tried the Spicy Miso Ramen, which brought a deeper, richer flavor with a noticeable kick, and the Green Chili Shio Ramen, which offered a lighter but still flavorful option with a cleaner broth profile. The balance between the noodles, broth, and toppings made the bowls feel thoughtfully put together rather than just another standard ramen option. The toppings were generous and the eggs were cooked well, adding a creamy richness that tied the bowl together. Beyond ramen, the sides are worth adding to the meal. We ordered the pan-fried gyoza, which came out with a crisp exterior and a juicy filling, making it one of the stronger starters to share. The karaage also added variety if you want something beyond noodles, with a crispy coating that held up without being greasy. The menu has enough options for different preferences, including vegetarian ramen choices that do not feel like an afterthought. Because of its popularity, waits can happen, especially during dinner hours and weekends. Joining the waitlist ahead of time is a good idea if you are planning around a specific schedule. The restaurant moves with a steady pace once seated, and the service generally matches the casual style of the space. The staff handle the flow efficiently, and even when the dining room is full, the pace of the meal stays comfortable without feeling rushed. Kitakata Ramen Ban Nai is a strong ramen destination for anyone looking for flavorful broths, well-textured noodles, and comforting Japanese dishes. The spicy ramen options and pan-fried gyoza are highlights, making it a place worth visiting when you want a satisfying bowl rather than just a quick noodle stop. The quality of the broth and the texture of the noodles make it a step above the average ramen spot, delivering a meal that feels complete and well considered.

But it just kind of slipped out of my consideration for no particular reason. But today I was driving near there, headed for somewhere else, and it hit me - Bento box sounds good today. And so it goes.. Parking in this small strip mall is usually pretty easy. It is a popular choice for lunch for many people that work in this business area of Elk Grove. I think that is because in addition to the good food, the service is not only friendly, but also very efficient. That allows you to have a nice sit-down lunch and still get back to work in time. They don't rush you, but you won't have to wait long for both the food and the check. Today I did have my delicious bento box, which as others have agreed, is a great deal for lunch. But I also splurged for a "Rock' n Rol" sushi roll, which was quite tasty. My waitress was wonderful - friendly and efficient as usual. But she didn't rush me personally. She even asked me if I wanted tea. In summary, it's an excellent choice for lunch. Good food, affordable, kind people, and a nice change from a fast food drive-thru.

If you're looking for the most authentic Japanese food outside the city, seems like this and a couple other places are all in the Schaumburg/Elk Grove Village area. Highly recommend hitting their lunch menu if you can because the bento box values are so worth it for authentic Japanese food/sushi. We got there at opening for dinner on a Saturday and got there just before dinner rush! This place is such a hidden authentic gem - you can tell from the decor to the choice of seating design to the actual menu and way they cook the RICE and other dishes. They serve the same grain for sushi as they do regular rice (Tamaki gold). Quality is not skipped here. We got the agedashi tofu (must get appetizer, as it's hard to really every achieve at home cooking), house special curry katsu, the beef kurumaya gozen (bento box) (which has incredible tempura, juicy soft beef), and assorted sashimi platter (I forget the name). All come highly recommended and were well worth the price point. I am just a bit sensitive about the freshness of the sushi, but I think this is probably as fresh as you can possibly get with generous cuts outside the city. Everything down to the miso soup too was delicious - best place to take your friends/family/coworkers for an authentic Japanese meal. Parking lot available out front. Recommend also stopping by Tensuke market nearby after!

After a long day outside, my kiddo asked to go to a teppanyaki restaurant (very niche request, but thank goodness for the Yelp app!) We were thrilled to be able to walk-in and the host was able to squeeze us in at the grill table (which was SO kind of her). We sat with some lovely families at the shared hot-top table and enjoyed our dinner immensely - the food was ok, the chef's presentation was good, and I don't think I have seen my kiddos eat so many veggies ever which may be due to the combo of those two. We got the full chef's presentation that you see at other hot top grill restaurants: spinning egg, onion volcano, tossing of the broccoli to the guests, my kids absolutely loved every second. The restaurant was clean and well run, the servers were attentive and kind, even when my youngest kiddo dropped her drink and it spilled on the floor. I couldn't have been more grateful for their kindness and hospitality: from getting us into the restaurant as a walk-in diner, their wonderful service during the meal, and the good dinner. Eating with 2 young kiddos is always a questionable experience as a parent but I have to say, I enjoyed the meal! If we are in Hoffman Estates, we will definitely go back!
