    Spicy veggie stir fry ramen
    Heather H.

My husband and I were visiting from California and found this spot to have ramen. We truly felt this was comparable to many of the places we ate at in Japan. We are always looking for a great ramen spot and this is the best we have found stateside so far....in Elgin, Illinois......hilarious! Great, friendly staff also. I ordered the ramen with the spicy veggie stir fry and my husband got the miso ramen. Both heaping portions and both so yummy and savory! I took over half of mine home for lunch tomorrow!!!!

Very tasty and atmospheric! A unique flavor, great service, and a cozy, welcoming vibe. I'll definitely be back!

Vegetable Ramen was good and the portion size was huge

Tatsu Ramen is in Elgin and I attempted to eat here a couple of times but failed. We arrived as soon as they opened for dinner. It was quiet and empty inside so service was speedy. The menu was really simple and I had the vegetable ramen. I also tried the spicy vegetable ramen and it was so spicy but in a good way. The ramen came to the table one notch below boiling hot. It took awhile to really get at it, but once it cooled to a comfortable level it was quite soothing. The broth was way better than I expected it to be for a vegan base. It was rich, flavorful, and slightly creamy with a velvety finish. The portion size was huge with plenty of vegetables and noodles packed in. This ramen was the perfect complement to the cold gloomy weather outside and I look forward to having more.

10/14/23 - We were on our way back from LaCrosse Wi trying to find a hot bowl of ramen on the way back to Chicago. The weather is getting chilly perfect weather for a hot bowl of ramen. We found Tatsu in Elgin. We both ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen. The Tonkatsu ramen broth is a rich pork broth that was absolutely amazing. The rich broth cooks for 30hrs. The ramen was very good w/ramen noodles, green onions, bamboo shoots & a boiled egg. I would go back again if in the neighborhood, but Elgin is a bit of a trek from Chicago.

We were dining with our 3 year old and the waiter made him little training chopsticks.

So happy to finally try this place. Ramen was 100% legit. Ordered the kara-age and tonkatsu ramen with extra noodles on the side. The chicken Kara-age was cooked just right- seasoned nicely with the right amount of crunch to it. The tonkatsu ramen was served nice and hot, rich and flavorful. I also appreciated how the soft eggs were cooked just right- cuz an overcooked egg can just ruin the ramen experience. Service was great and our waiter made little training chopsticks for our 4 year child- who was able to eat his whole meal with those chopstick and looked so proud doing so. The place a small and intimate. They had both tables along with a bar top. This is our new go to for ramen. Can't wait to go back...

Ok so - we have been here many times since it's opened and, being totally honest, we have never really liked their ramen. We are used to ramen from Sushi Kushi 4 U in Lake Zurich and Ramendobo in Cary (not to mention the ramen from Mitsuwa Marketplace). Anyway, the ramen has always been just "ok". Tatsu has always had AMAZING beef curry and other dishes like their bao buns (both the pork and karage chicken). That said, last time we were here I had the Oyakodon (I believe is what it was called) and it was SO GOOD. Husband had the shoyu ramen and that was also great. This time, since I really like the beef curry, I decided to try the karage chicken curry ramen. Ya'll - I can't even explain how good this was. WOW. This is, hands down, the best thing I've had from here. Tatsu, you all continue to impress me with your take on ramen, rice bowls, etc. Legit, super fantastic experience last night and we can't wait to return soon! Keep up the great work!

Two things you should know: One - I don't give five stars to restaurants very often (only 15 out of 150-ish). And Two - I had gastric sleeve surgery in March of '22. I eat like a bird. Seriously, one regular meal will last me 4 meals (that's when I have had enough and I give it to my kids or husband). My husband and I had our date night here on a Wednesday night. Like others have said, the place is small but it wasn't loud or crowded. My husband ordered the Taiwan Ramen. He said it was amazing. I ordered the Katsu Don. It. Was. Incredible. It is the reason I am giving a five star review. The sauce was so good I am still thinking about it and the eggs... oh, Lord... the eggs. Chef kiss. I ate a little that night and the next day for breakfast and for lunch (it was still delicious) then I gave it to my husband who also thought it was delectable! I almost thought about going back tonight even though we were just there three days ago.

Will come here repeatedly. Great ramen. Friendly staff. I've had 3 different ramens here and they're all very well done. Bao is great, too.

This location, as most locations, is a bit cozy but pleasing to the eyeballs. We were being coaxed into sitting on stools, otherwise, a booth would have to be cleaned. We waited for the booth. I felt bad for the young lady serving, she had to hold the fort down all by herself. As a result, service was a smidge slow and inaccurate. The ramen was delicious. I got spicy chicken ramen with egg, extra veggies, and char siu on the side because shut up I'm hungry. This chicken broth is the definition of comfort, try it on its own before mixing, trust me. I knew the chicken slices may be lackluster but I wanted that broth. Thats also why I got a side of char siu which was magnifique. The noodles were perfect. The beef curry ramen emitted a unique and pleasing bouquet of spicy fragrance, with softer flat noodles. It was satisfyingly spicy. Karaage was super hot, fresh, and delicious. Um, soda comes in cans. They serve tsukemen! Gotta come back to try it. You really can't go wrong with a hot bowl of good quality ramen. Chicago Ramen has a menu that does not overwhelm, in a good way. A great addition to The Commons if you want to stay away from fast food.

Stopped into this Chicago Ramen thinking it would be the same and I'm pretty disappointed.

When we walked in we were quickly seated and the staff was great and made great recommendations. We tried the bang bang shrimp and the volcano tamago. The bang bang shrimp was fried and covered in the sauces. It was good but not the type of bang bang shrimp I'm used to. The volcano tamago were half of a hard boiled egg each and were full of flavor, soft and crunch at the same time. Loved those! On to the ramen, I got the garlic ramen and it was good! I shared with my little so I had the chili oil on the side and he loved it and ate a whole small bowls worth. I added the chili after and some pork katsu which were delicious. To drink we tried the kumquat lemon with the aloe jelly. It was refreshing for a hot summer day. Overall we had a great experience and look forward to coming back when we're in the area.

We ended with mochi, and it was prepared like you expect, soft and doughy on the outside, and cold and frozen ice cream on the inside. Too many places have melted mochis by the time you crack them.
