Been going here for some time now for takeout lunch. They offer a wonderful selection of combo/bento boxes for lunch at reasonable prices. My usual order is the Abishiri Combo, which comes with soup, a shrimp tempura roll, California roll, small salad with ginger dressing, and three wonton style dumplings. It's a lot for lunch and I can barely finish it usually. I personally prefer cooked sushi (not raw), which is why I prefer the Abishiri combo. The rolls are always perfectly made and delicious. The real star of the show for me, though, is the fried wontons. Served in a tasty, slightly spicy sauce, they are excellent. Full disclosure, that is the only dish I've tried there because it is so consistently good and has yet to disappoint. This combo includes 1 cup of piping hot miso ( it is still hot when I bring the carry out home), 1 shrimp tempura crunch roll, 1 California roll, 3 fried dumplings, and a basic salad with a ginger dressing. Though the entire combo is tasty, the crunch roll, dumplings and soup are particular standouts. The crunch roll includes the various sauces on top that impact flavor without being soggy and dumplings arrive warm with a tangy, slight sweet and yummy sauce at the bottom. On top of the great flavors, the staff are very welcoming when I arrive and the food is boxed and ready to go. My husband I came here for date night after trying to go to a different sushi restaurant that was not doing dine in. We are so glad we found this place! The menu is huge, plenty of different rolls to choose from as well as appetizers and other entrees. We started with the dumplings which were amazing! They are a little spicy but we enjoyed them. I chose the lobster and shrimp roll and my husband had the the spicy tempera shrimp roll. Both were excellent! My husband also ordered Spicy ramen and I ordered Udon. I waited 35 minutes for a pick up order, past the estimated pick up time... not when I arrived, but 35 after the order was promised If it's not going to be promised by the time it says, then why have us wait? I'm irritated, but so are my hungry customers expecting food before 9. In fact, it was supposed to be delivered already, but I'm still waiting, as are they. If you're going to order to go from here plan on waiting an hour plus to get it. When time is money, we don't appreciate waiting that long for an order. It's sushi, not steak. This place has decent sushi, however do not order the Ramen, it doesn't come with Charsu and Egg or any veggies. Literally just noodles, green onion and one of the saltiest and oily broths ever. Pros: -Like many sushi places, they have a huge menu, including plenty of things to please the non-raw crowd. -We tried 2 different rolls & both were quite tasty. -Several types of sake, Asian beers & cocktails to choose from. -Casual atmosphere, because you don't always want to change out of your yoga pants when you want to go out for sushi. -Clean restaurant with nice decor. Cons: What I found lacking in the service: -While we were greeted by the staff & they bid us a friendly goodbye as we departed, the in-between part was lacking. I'm used to no-nonsense service at other sushi places, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't come check on your customers while they dine. -I like it when the first cup of sake is poured for you, similar to the first glass of wine being poured by the server. Nope, not here. Perhaps that comes with the more casual setting, but it's something small & simple that makes a difference. -I guess our server didn't want us to be gluttons, because there were just 2 of us and we ordered 2 rolls to share (one was a small roll) - when we had finished the 2 the waitress brought us the check. Sushi Cafe is by far my favorite Sushi place that I've tried in Illinois :) The staff is very friendly and welcoming- both if you dine in and if you take out. I love when I get take out that they have you sit and relax and you can watch your sushi being made. They often have great price specials on rolls, otherwise it can be a bit pricey. I will admit I have never eaten any of the food but the sushi, so I can't review their other items. They have a pretty decent deal getting three rolls for $25 and when I went in there and watched the sushi chef prepare things looked fresh and there was lively conversation from a couple of other patrons sitting there waiting for their food. I made sure to try and spread out and get a couple of fresh rolls some cooked rolls and tempura to really give a chance I bought six rolls equating to about $54 worth of sushi and I'm only getting $25 worth out of my money three of the rules are inedible it's not just my opinion I had a couple of friends come over and we all sat down to eat dinner and we were trying different things. While things looked amazing the fish that was inside felt very slimy and although I know it's fish and had a very dirty taste to it. Almost as if it wasn't for as fresh as it could've been. The atmosphere was great the service was a little slow but other than that very charming people. I don't know if they just don't get fresh fish but the quality just wasn't there for the money I spent. I won't be returning anytime soon. read more

Incredibly disappointing. My usual sushi place is closed on Tuesdays. This place was close to my house and the prices seemed fair. I ordered for pickup through doordash. First problem was they never updated door dash. In fact now, hours late, it still shows my order as "in progress." I ordered 2 california rolls, a spicy tuna roll, and a salmon roll. The salmon was disgusting. Very dark, not pink like it should be. Spicy tuna was rolled bad and had more onion then tuna. California rolls were dry. Overall it was just disgusting and I regret ordering here. I feel like I wasted my time and money. Avoid this establishment. read more
