Wanted some Thai food and decided to give Bangkok Thai a try. Unfortunately, their food was only mediocre and we both left disappointed. Service was subpar. Our waitress did not smile much. We did not feel welcomed. The restaurant was spacious and clean. We ordered fried calamari as an appetizer. It was lightly battered and tasted great! Chicken Pad Thai was a huge disappointment! All I taste was the cheap ketchup they used instead of tamarind. It was definitely NOT worth $15. It was disgusting. If I wanted to eat ketchup with noodles, I would've just made that at home. Avoid this dish!! Using ketchup as a cheaper substitute is horrible! The drunken noodle had better flavor than my ketchup noodles but it was extremely spicy. We were in the area visiting family and were craving Thai food. Bangkok Thai & Sushi Restaurant popped up online and was only a few mile drive from our AirBnB, so we bit the bullet and decided to drive there. We were surprised that there was only one other party dining there. The dining was sparkling clean and very spacious. We also received some of the kindest, most attentive service we've had in the past few months. Our waitress was truly a gem. The food was surprisingly phenomenal. We didn't have super high expectations or anything but we didn't have one bad item. The Bangkok Sampler was a great way to start our meal (they have the perfect, authentic Crab Rangoon recipe-- sweet, filled with crab meat, and slightly savory). They also gave us a free House Salad to eat before we got our meals. The entrees were no different -- my Dad said his dish was bursting with flavor. My Pad Thai was definitely one of the best I've had in recent memory, not too sweet, not too spicy, not too salty, and tons of peanuts on the side. Greeted upon arrival and seated immediately. The service was attentive and kind. The atmosphere was white table cloth and piano/jazz ambiance, very romantic. I ordered the tom kha tofu soup, fried tofu, papaya salad, and fresh spring rolls. Everything had great flavor and texture. The papaya salad uses Thai chili which can be spicy so I ordered it medium and used it to top my spring rolls and tofu. FINALLY - a suburban sushi spot with good sushi! Met a friend here for sushi. When we picked this place to meet I didn't remember I had picked up Thai food from this place (to go) once. She took drink and food order at the same time since it was taking so long. Did not bring white rice that came with the dish. When asked for to go containers she didn't fully understand what two meant. No one ever cleared our plates or dishes even though one waitress walked by several times. Lunch special with a great value! My husband wanted to try some Thai food. We ordered from their lunch menu. I got the chicken pad Thai and my husband ordered red chicken curry. It came with Tom Yom soup and vegetable egg rolls. The soup arrived hot with the crispy egg rolls. For appetizer we added shrimp tempura roll. The food was delicious and portions were just right. We ordered take out for dinner, and the food was ready quickly. As the restaurant is in a shopping center the area was busy but there was still plenty of parking. The total for two entrees, one appetizer and sushi was about $50. We were a bit disappointed with the smaller amount of food provided especially the entrees for the price compared to other similar Asian restaurants in the area. We were in town for a weekend event and wanted something besides a chain restaurant. This little restaurant is in a strip mall, but the atmosphere inside is warm and inviting. The staff is very welcoming and professional to a level seldom seen these days. The service approaches the standard in a fine restaurant in both attention to detail and response times. In fact, we were amazed at how quickly our food arrived at the table. The food was delicious and plentiful and there were many other options we'd like to try if we return to the area in the future. One of the best sushi and thai places in the area. I have tried almost the whole menu and never did they disappoint. Highly recommend spicy tuna roll and any nigiri/sashimi, all special rolls are divine. Let me start by saying that I love sushi and eat it atleast twice a month. My wife and I recently went when we realized that Bistro Wasabi was closed unexpectedly, so as a last resort we want to Bangkok Thai. This would end up being the biggest mistake. I got severe food poisoning eating their sushi as I had 3 rolls. I couldn't eat anything at all in the 24 hours following my dinner. Extreme bloating and diarrhea. Just plain nasty. The rolls did not taste great and was probably some of the worst sushi I've had at a restaurant. The restaurant itself had a nice ambiance but upon closer look, it was dirty and not well maintained. Needless to say I will never be visiting this establishment again. *Update* 3 days in and I can still barely eat. This is the worst food poisoning I've ever experienced in my life! Local place that is right around the block from where we live, they have been making decent Thai food along with sushi for a while now. While this place isn't the best place round, it is definitely better than average and I dont think I have ever had a bad meal from there. My girls love the sushi from there and it's reasonably priced. If you are in the mood for Thai or sushi give Bangkok a try. The problem they have & I see they haven't fixed from other reviews i read before coming is the service. They only had 2 waiters taking care of 20+ tables which in my opinion is unacceptable for a restaurant I shouldn't have to wait 10+ mins and remind my waiter about a glass of iced tea, plus when my pepper steak came out it wasn't even hot just warm, so like how long was it sitting in back of the kitchen waiting to come out? lol Also saw multiple parties come in and then leave cause there was no host upfront helping. Since our first visit, we have made many return visits so I have to hand out a 5 star review. The service is always great. We love their sashimi, it's always fresh and delicious and their selection of sake is a wonderful accompaniment to their food. We still haven't tried the thai menu because we love their sushi and sashimi so much. We always order the sashimi deluxe and the specialty crazy roll. So I've had this place 3 times, and probably one of the best suburban Thai restaurants you'll find. That being said, yes it's spicy. Thai food always is so get mild if you can't handle it because the medium even is a lot. Their spicy Mayo in their sushi rolls always get me. Their pineapple fried rice is really good. Our order was for take-out, and the person taking our order and the person inside the restaurant were both very friendly and helpful. I thought our entrees were portioned well and tasted good. The pot stickers, however, were overcooked and difficult to eat. The peanut sauce was absolutely terrible, and I was really looking forward to adding that to my Pad Thai. Ok a definitely a I WILL GO BACK PLACE. A very quiet and relaxing atmosphere. The service was so so but the food was great and the price was right on track with the meal. @Bangkok Thai is surprisingly good for a Thai place out in the middle of Algonquin! I ordered to go a couple of times and they were always super fast in making my order and always got the order completely correct, even with some special requests. They seem to have a nice big dining room and although never full always had a few people eating in. My personal favorites: Sweet potato roll $5.95 - I have a slight obsession with sweet potato rolls, I just can't get enough. This was a good one kept nice and simple with tempura deep fried sweet potato and vinegar rice. Maybe a little too much vinegar and a little too much rice but overall loved this roll. Tofu Pad Thai $9.95 - Big & fresh tofu pieces, this may just be a personal preference but I prefer mine cut a bit smaller. It's not a big portion at all which surprised me considering the price. I'm used to pad thai being about a dollar less and about half a size bigger than it was. I really enjoyed the dish though. They gave me chopsticks & no fork which I was A-OK with but not sure how well that goes over with native Alongquins. I always appreciated them using separate containers to keep my warm food hot and my cold sushi cool. If you're in the area, I'd definitely say @BANGKOK is a solid choice. read more
