We had the tenderizer and the popper (which was my favorite btw) The bread is crispy and buttery which makes this sandwich so darn good. I recommend you try it with the tomato soup! Great combo. I've had a condo a block from this place for four years and have never gotten around to trying it. I'm glad I finally did. Food is terrific. I had a special of the month, the grill power sandwich, but I'm sure you can't go wrong with any of the sandwiches here. They're perfectly grilled, with perfectly melted cheese. I loved the spicy mayo that came with my sandwich. They're also great at cooking the tater tots, which were perfectly crispy. The prices are not bad, but a bit high for what it is (a grilled cheese). The late-night ambience is dark, fun, and pretty loud and boisterous. The staff, from the security guard to the servers, were all really nice-- quite a feat for likely having to deal with inebriated people all night. Looked crowded when we walked in - because it was Music Bingo day. Lots of seating at the bar - which is where we landed. The sandwich of the month was roast beef, onions, mushrooms, spring mix and two types of cheese served with a horseradish aioli. That was for me. Rick had the OG with gouda and cheddar with a cup of the tomato soup. We split the sweet potato fries. Bartender was convivial - explained that Music Bingo is nothing at all like trivia games. No one minds if you sing along with the song clips - actually - it's encouraged. We didn't play the Bingo - but we did sing along. Perhaps it is my fault for having a soul yet still choosing to walk into this building. Perhaps it is my fault for enjoying alcohol and choosing to come to this place. After catching a show at the Vic, friends recommended this as an easily walkable meeting spot. I'll cut to the chase: the bartender brought us rocks glasses for shots, used a slow pour spout, and poured 0.5oz of liquor and charged 6 dollars. Said "oh the glasses make it look smaller." None of us were drunk walking in, and we were CERTAINLY not drunk walking out. I'm in the industry myself and can recognize, in fact, what a shot pour is - but also my friends enjoy going to bars and would know what 0.5oz feels like vs 1oz. Again, none of us had anything to drink prior to coming in - so why? Why even pour it in front of us when most of this place is just QR code service anyhow? Why? Why charge us full price? My positive part of the review is everything is cheap relative to other Chicago spots, but it is also smaller portions so you're really just getting what you pay for. (6 bucks a shot is average though, so please pour the correct amount of alcohol...) But I do think if you're on a budget, it's a good place to entertain for college kids. I do feel bad for saying this, but Yelp is about personal taste - they were blasting some kind of anime show and I couldn't hear my friends talking over it. This one might be my fault though for just not being the person Cheesie's is trying to cater to, but like, it sucked. I enjoy anime, but good lord I'm trying to talk to my friends! It's a bar! Why are you having the TVs yell at me? I'm in my mid twenties - I'm not curmudgeonly about it! Most of my Yelp reviews are positive, but I was mad enough to log on and cast a negative one. Also back to the QR code service - I was sitting at a part of the bar where no human could physically reach from behind the bar (awkward architecture). Which is fine - but WHY would you not walk out from behind the bar and hand me the beer then? Instead, the bartender just gave it to a bunch of random other patrons who started yelling out confused asking whose beer this was. It exchanged like 5 different people's hands before getting to me. A great thing to do for a young woman at a bar - have a bunch of completely random strangers handle the beverage, what could to wrong?? Like....why..... I also know this place has one other location coming in Wicker Park. It is the omen that your neighborhood is about to get 10x more annoying and fast. Literally just go to Taco Bell - you'll get better service, cheaper prices, better food, and the exact same ambiance. And some Taco Bells have booze! read more

Cheesie's Pub and Grub hasn't changed since I last had it four years ago. I recently decided to stop by Cheesie's this past Friday and I am so happy that I did. The staff is always so friendly and the moment I came in the bartender was making me laugh. We initially thought we would take the food to go but the place was nicely ventilated and they had ample sitting available. If you are still adjusting to coming outside they have large windows that oepn The menu didn't seem like it changed to much but I am a creature of habit so I just ordered the sandwich that I last remembered was good. Haha. I had the Tenderizer with a side of mac-n-cheese and my husband got the Edgar. This was probably the first time his sandwich was better than mine even though both sandwiches were delicious. I was recommend the Edgar without coleslaw. The side of mac-n-cheese was delicious! I didn't know what to expect when I saw the additional cheese on top because a lot of places try to be extra with their sides. I was pleasantly surprised when I mixed the pasta and it didn't look like Kraft mac-n-cheese. It was delicious and the portion size was appreciated along with the price. While I would likely never actively come to this joint as a sober person, I have to say that I have tried this food sober and can admit it's a guilty pleasure. Every single time I come here inebriated, it truly hits the spot. We love a place open very late to help assist with the drunchies... but it's even better when the food actually slaps! PSA IF YOU WANT A QUICK BITE: LOOK FURTHER -YES it was busy -NO you shouldn't wait 55 minutes for a grilled cheese! -We went on a busy Thursday night. We wait 30 minutes or so, the crowd disperses, and I'm hopeful that my order will be out now that the kitchen has had a chance to catch up. I go to check on my order and was assured by the bartender that it would be right out! 20 minutes go by and I've been here 50 minutes now waiting for my 2 grilled cheese. I ask for a refund. Instead of being provided a refund the bartender said he'd check on our order (not what we asked after 50 min, but ok..?). He doesn't even come back with an answer and I'm just waiting to be provided with a refund. At this moment I overhear from the staff, "Okay we can take food orders again" and miraculously my food comes out 10 minutes later. If I ask for a refund, give me a refund. If my food hasn't been fired yet and I'm asking for a refund??? GIVE ME A REFUND. The food was nasty and cold regardless so maybe pick somewhere else for your late night munchies, y'all.
