Stopped in since I heard they reopened after a fire. It's the same layout, now just more modernized. It's under new management but still in the family. A was greeted with a hearty "Hello!!" from the guy behind the counter. I told him I just need a moment. I decided to try skirt steak sandwich. I received my skirt steak and after the first tender bite, it took me back. The garlic bread was buttery and garlicky. The lettuce, tomatoes and grilled onions all added to the taste. The fresh cut fries were salted well and really stood up the secret French fries dip. I don't know what makes up the dip, but it was so good, I put some on my skirt steak sandwich. For dessert I tried one of their doughnuts, it was dusted with cinnamon and sugar. It was superb. Light and fluffy without being too sweet. The food is good but every time I come here I give my name and then they ask me over and over again if I'm sure that the food is mine. I showed the worker my pickup order receipt on Doordash today and he asked me two more times if I'm sure the order is mine. Bizarre. Weird vibe. read more

The fact that I have never eaten here and driven by 100 times is an abomination to Humanity. Coming back from salt shed we popped and Art hooked us up. Philly cheesesteak. Anyone who knows - knows and this was best I've had In Chicago Art told me the beef and how they make it. Was the best. Wife through down a burger that she loves and Greek fries were spot on. I stopped by Arts Drive-In for breakfast the other day and was blown away -- the steak and eggs were cooked perfectly. I went back today for lunch and tried the bacon cheeseburger... wow, absolutely amazing! You can really tell they care about the food and the customers. Listen, time to stop trying to beat them and just start joining them. Here, the working people of Chicago congregate for their breakfast, lunch, and dinner rituals. And here, those same folks take a princess with soft hands like mine under their wing. A fellow patron lets me know my strong, hot black coffee is ready. Alex slides me a piece of carrot cake. I am ready for a really amazing Greek omelette - one to rival the no frills diner of childhood dreams. We get a pastrami breakfast sandwich and it is juicy, tasty, out of this world. For someone who has never cooked, I think I would know a good take-out place. The food is outstanding...what else can I say? The steak & eggs remind me of the Golden Nugget in Vegas back in the days where they were the best in town for $2.99. One of my favorites is the Biftekia dinner which is flavorful and filling. Their salads are fresh they make hashbrowns the way I like: cut up in pieces, not like the shredded kind you find in greasy cheap diners. The bread is a bit over-buttered but that's just my preference. They are open early and close late which is perfect for my lifestyle. read more

This is the best fast food in town. Hands down! Very good quality and cooked with care and tasteful. BIG PORTIONS! My favorites: Greek Salad with grilled chicken, Steak Dinner or sandwich, you can't go wrong with these. The burgers and soups are also good. I think this is a revitalized Greek diner. Colorful and clean. Boisterous and charming staff. Wife had an egg and pastrami sandwich and I had the skirt steak sandwich. I visited this restaurant yesterday and was there for over an hour enjoying the various items on the menu. For starters, the Italian beef sandwich was like no other, the bread was not overly saturated, the beef was tender and flavorful and the amount of peppers were perfect! The onion rings and customized dipping sauce was delish! I think this restaurant skips the seed oils and uses olive oil because the taste was totally different than what I have ever had. The Greek yogurt and Greek honey was to die for, my gut microbiome was pleased as my face was glowing in the morning; zero puffiness. I finished my meal with green tea and a splash of Greek honey which I need to go back and purchase as it was like no other. The service was the best I have ever experienced. Art was very welcoming and accomodating, it felt like home. It was so convenient to wait for my car to get washed next door while grabbing a bite. read more

I cannot believe how lucky we were to come across Art's! We were kayaking and our tour guide mentioned it. We were hungry afterwards and it was open late so we decided to stop by. I have to start by saying, we were treated as family from the time we walked in to the time we left. The food is incredible, yes, but the atmosphere and the banter was the best part. We were immediately warmly welcomed. We ordered a hotdog and Greek fries and my husband decided he *needed* the pastrami burger as well. I'm so glad he did. The owner referred to it as life changing and he wasn't wrong. The most insane and flavorful burger and pastrami I've ever had. My husband labeled it the best burger he's ever had in his life, and I definitely agree. The Greek fries were incredible. The feta was amazing and the lemon flavoring on them was perfect. When we decided to come to Chicago for the weekend, I took HOURS researching food and restaurants. Art's was never on my list but ended up being the best food BY FAR that we had the entire trip. We ordered delivery from here and it was soooo good! The Philly cheesesteak might have been the best, but the hand breaded chicken tenders, I ordered for my kid but had to steal a few since the flavor was incredible. The steak sandwich also had amazing flavors but the only downside was, because it is skirt steak, it's kinda hard to eat in a sandwich. I'd still order it again though. Been by Art's a million times and always wanted to go, then it closed and I was super bummed. Then I read online they were reopening. Decided to stop grab some breakfast after going shopping, and glad we did. My g/f and I both got omelettes. Very, very tasting and definitely beat any expectations I had. Staff was nice. Although it is a diner, could use a bit more ambience. Also not a fan of "packets" of sauce (we had hot) when eating in. Will definitely be back. I'm a long time customer of Arts Drive-In of the old regime and the new regime. I'm at the new owner and he was personable attentive and busy making everything run and work together. I ordered the Philly cheese steak and it was delicious. The beef was well seasoned and combined with white American cheese. Now it wasn't the best I ever had like the owner said but the sandwich deserves to be noted! Open till midnight and they serve breakfast all day long. At 11pm @ night the place was still busy. They must be doing something right. There is table sitting as well as counter-row sitting against the window. Just a friendly side note to the owner, if he wanted to hit that Philly cheese steak out the ball park. Toast the bread with some garlic butter! We are so excited that one of our favorite spots has reopened! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a giant smile and a warm hello--it felt like coming home. The space looks fantastic with its fresh updates, but thankfully, the food is just as good as we remembered. My daughters and I ordered a little bit of everything: patty melts, Monte Cristos, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, and of course, milkshakes. Every bite was absolutely delicious. Seating felt a bit limited(12 or so seating across the grill) since it's colder out, but I'd definitely come back to check out their patio when the weather's nicer. The staff was super helpful with recommendations. I ended up getting the southern omelette, corned beef skillet, hot cocoa, and a short stack -- and yeah, those pancakes are a must. Everything came out hot and satisfying, perfect late-night comfort food. Perfect spot for late-night eats or when you're craving something simple and filling. I'd go back for sure.

I would assume a place where the newest thing since the 1980s is the security camera would have vinyl with more cracks and patina than my trusty old leather jacket! But no, it's in fantastic shape. Especially given that, the vibe in here is awesome! It's like stepping through a time-portal. For food, I ordered an old favorite: Pigs in Blankets. The food came out fast, though, to be fair, there was only one other person dining in at the time. The sausage links were crisp, and the pancakes were lightly sweet and fluffy. All in all, great! While perhaps not enough to summon the Michelin Guide inspectors, it was better than the average greasy spoon. Finally, I really appreciate that the prices are reasonable, and that there is parking! Final verdict: I've had a small handful of spectacular breakfasts. I've also had criminal breakfasts, where two unsalted eggs, two bacon strips, and a tablespoon of potatoes costs $14.95. Golden House Restaurant & Pancake House finds itself in that sweet spot in between - it is neither a spectacular spot (often have prices to boot), nor is it an overpriced, underwhelming greasy spoon that stays in business thanks to regulars who have been coming for decades and don't want anything better.

I had no idea that this was one of those restaurants where everyone insults you and is rude to you - but it was a fun surprise! I commend the hosts and servers here because it is honestly so much more work to insult people without crossing a line than to just be fake-polite. It sounds exhausting, so please TIP THEM WELL! Our server, I can't remember his name, but he told us to call him, "Daddy," was really in character and so funny. Also just listening to all the servers around us insult the customers is so funny and entertaining. Yes, this place is touristy, but it's also a really fun atmosphere in an old-school diner - what's not to love? Food is decent, very typical diner food. You don't come for the food, you come for the insults. Highly recommend!

Instead of getting an entrée, I decided on a few vegan side dishes including the barbecuing, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes with gravy. The food looked so good that I took a few bites before I remembered to take photos. Their wings are my favorite! Our server was fabulous! I will definitely return again, and highly recommend the diner to others!
