This is my second time there as I just relocated to WI for the summers last year. I echo the other positive reviews. This place rocks. They are super nice, efficient, and so so competent. They did the service items I indicated based on my records of what had been done to my Audi TT over the past 9 years I've owned it. They also recommended two other items to potentially do once they got the car back in the shop -- one was a drive belt which I had not noticed as a service item to get done. Mine was starting to wear thin on a side (they showed me the actual belt when checking out). Wheh! Thanks for that catch. And another was rotating tires which does make sense to do, and I appreciate them for pointing that out. They were very nice and got those items done while I was waiting (as my Wisconsin location is not that close to their shop so I was a "waiter.") A big thanks for the great job they did. Have been a customer for 15 years. Kummrow helped prepare and maintain a Mini Cooper S for track use. After putting it into the tires at turn 12 at Road America, I had Pat and his team put it back together, and they did it so well that it became one of their loaner cars for a reasonable price. They maintained my next BMW, a 1990 track-modified 3 series for five years. They went into the parking garage at a hospital to rescue a frozen wagon and got it back to the shop to install a new battery. Recently they found and mounted a hard to find an OEM tire - and got it done in one day. They are skilled, honest, and go the extra mile when necessary. No shop is better. read more

Would not recommend.. My 06 BMW 325i was misfiring because of oil leaking into the eccentric camshaft sensor, which I had told them about. They did the relearn limit which would have fixed the issue temporarily.. they however went and replaced the 3 ignition coils for the cylinders reported by the diagnosis system as misfiring.. This was completely unnecessary. The misfire is just a symptom of the faulty eccentric camshaft sensor.. So they added the unneeded work and on top of that they broke the cabin air filter frame when they removed it to get to the coils read more

This shop has serviced my older bmw for many years from the previous owners. The shop recognised the car and they have been very helpful with convertable issues that was not in my ability. The owner and staff are very professional and do great work. They are used to working on higher end expensive cars, but have kept my older car running well. This is a bit more expensive shop than some. Due to the complexity and special tools / skills / scanners needed for european sports and luxury cars. So the owner patrick is an awesome guy and I think you would be very happy to use his shop. read more

Kummrow has proven to me that they know a lot about the types of cars they specialize in, and their prices will delight you if you're upset wtih Concours BMW and their ridiculous service costs. Nobody looks forward to spending money for car upkeep, but it's good to know there's a dependable, knowledgeable, reputable shop to go to that's right down the road from the dealer when it turns out you do have to pay for something. 5 stars given and review posted in response to them calling to follow up and see how the car is doing. When I towed my car into the shop I told them I was pretty sure my car needed a new alternator. Took almost 2 weeks for my car to get "fixed" because they were too busy. Then they told me there was actually nothing wrong with the car and just replaced the battery and charged me almost $500. A day after I picked my car it broke down again, so I had to tow it back to the shop. They said it wasn't their fault they didn't find the problem the first time around and charged me another $500 to replace the alternator. read more

I stopped by at the place based on the reviews. Here is my experience: 1. I came in and mentioned right away that I have a computer, know all the codes, provided the codes to them, and asked if they can just take it further by performing a test that will tell them what exactly is wrong with a vehicle. About 30min later they came back to me showing the codes I mentioned and saying that I have to keep the car with them for more testing. They charged me $70+ for running the codes and said it will be another $70 for more testing. 2. After paying, I asked if they looked under the hood to spot any oil leaks - the answer was NO. However, I knew it's there and you do not have to be a mechanic to see the leak. Which tells me, he lied to me and they did not even open the hood and charged me for connecting their computer and showing me the codes, which I gave them prior to their testing. I would prefer you telling me the truth. You did make an easy money but lost all the trust and a customer. Based on all the certificates you have in your office, I am sure that the staff is very knowledgeable. Best of luck! read more

From my experience, overall I was not very happy. First of all, compared to other import shops, their hourly rate is high $$$. My repair was fairly simple, replacing coolant hoses. They got the job done in a timely manner, but within a week I was back on the side of the road with a blinking "check coolant" light. Next shop told me it was a direct result of poor installation. The hose was zip tied close to the running belt and soon after wore a hole through it. 5 more minutes to do the job right and I wouldn't be in this predicament. Aside from that, they work with you well on scheduling pick ups and drop offs. read more

Gotta give it to them for quality service, price, car knowledge and talking to you respectfully I.e., not condescending. I went initially for a quote on my BMW 7 series after the stellarship quoted me $1800 to repair. So, I got a second opinion and they were much less. But I went a step further and sourced the part myself, then took it to them. They did a great install, took me for a ride and showed me the difference and showed where a previously dealership had screwed up. (I got my $ back from them, which I know is rare.) I'm going back to let 'me do more work because they know the car. A good sign of that was seeing 3 other BMWs in their shop. Based on my experience with Kummrow, I would not come back: After they "took care" of the check engine light on our 2001 beetle, to the tune of $600, by replacing the mass air flow sensor, the check engine light instantly came right back on. I brought the VW back to Kummrow, and Andy, the owner's son, acted pretty generous about waiving an additional fee for hooking up my car to the computer again to see what was wrong (gee, thanks!). Then he tells me that another repair has come up, blah, blah; hmm. . . waning confidence, here. So I pack up my VW and take it to Steve, another mechanic who I know to be ethical, and more capable at navigating the sensitivities of VW's, and here the computer contradicted what the Kummrow computer had outputted (is it the computer or the messenger?). According to this computer, the newly replaced part was still faulty! My other mechanic felt baffled about what the true issue might be. Was it really a faulty new mass air flow sensor or had it been poorly installed, or was it something else? He sat on it for a few days while I attempted to negotiate with Andy-at-Kummrow, who apparently has nothing pleasant to say about the VW beetle, and did not care an iota about my travails with this repair gone awry. My new guy futzed with this, and tried a little that, and got the check engine light to stay off for good, all for a nominal fee! I am sure that he saved me hundreds (thousands?) of dollars, had I continued on with Kummrow, where an oil change tacked on to a larger repair costs $80! They do, however, have a nice dog in the entryway! read more

Had them do a pre-purchase inspection on a used car I was interested in. The inspection was straight forward, seemed thorough, and was reasonably priced. After purchasing the vehicle I returned to have an oil change and an issue corrected that had been discovered during the previous inspection. I took my car to this shop yesterday to resolve an issue with my airbag. I had called around to a couple of places before trying them out and was shocked that a diagnosis for a $1000 PLUS airbag system was being made over the phone. How could someone know this and they've never even touched my car. I was very hesitant to go anywhere but Kummrow because they said it was probably the wiring from the onset. It was my first time at this shop and admittedly, I was a little nervous. This visit could have gone either way. The first thing is that they promised my vehicle would be completed in an hour and a half but it was actually done in 38 minutes. I waited for the repair to be done and was shocked when they said it was done. I had just gotten comfortable. The second thing is that I had been given quote a repair price of $140 and that is the EXACT amount of my final repair order. I fully recommend this company wholeheartedly as they provided great customer service. In fact, they were better than the service provided at the VW dealer and it was worth the trip to their shop. Not only that, but they saved me a ton of money and could have lied and said it was the airbag system and would cost $1000 to fix it. Pat and Rich are the best in the business when it comes to German import repair. When the timing belt broke in my VW GTI, I had it towed to the dealer where they recommended a new engine for $6000, which was more than I still owned on my car loan. On a friends tip, I decided to get a second opinion at Kummrow. After talking with Pat, he told me that they would scope the engine and let me know what kind of damage was done and if rebuilding was an option for a potentially much lower cost. After a day of diagnosis, I was informed that the engine could likely be rebuilt. After opening the thing up, the damage was rough, but with a bunch of new parts and about a week and a half of work, I was able to get the whole engine rebuilt, the clutch replaced, and a few other odds and ends for just under $5000. Not a cheap repair, but I've had all my work done here since and everything is top notch. I wouldn't trust my car to anyone else! read more

I was referred to Kummrow by a former employer of Pat. Have to say I was not impressed; disappointed would be a better description. I needed a part I sourced replaced and was willing to pay the additional $30/hr labor they tack on if they don't source parts for you. They could have at least made sure they put the panels back correctly when they finished the job. It was immediately obvious to me when I picked up the car that no one in charge inspected the work before they called me to pick it up . . . I guess my '82 didn't warrant the same attention as the newer, pricier models they service. Plus, my door lock activators no longer work and my trunk no longer locks- and both worked before I brought the car in. Have such a bad taste in my mouth that I won't bother going back . . . Clearly, "New Age Business, Old Time Values" is only a sales pitch, not a work ethic. read more

I was looking to get an APR tune done to my VW and was calling around to the local APR dealers to get a quote. After discussing explicitly what I was looking to get done, Kummrow quoted me at ~$730. When I arrived for my appointment this morning, the price jumped to $895. The person at the desk tried to blame it on a miscommunication, suggesting that I wasn't clear in what I was asking for. I know that I was clear in what I wanted over the phone and repeated myself 3 times to ensure we were on the same page. I think either the employee I spoke to didn't know what he was talking about or intentionally lowballed the quote to get me into the shop, assuming I'd pay the difference once I was already there. I would not recommend Kummrow Automotive for any APR work considering their staff doesn't seem to have full knowledge of the products or pricing. read more

I've been a customer for the past three years at Kummrow. Also referred my parents and friends to this shop. In late June 2012, my expansion tank cracked straight down the middle and they did a great job fixing it as usual. I also had work done on my car in September of 2012 to prepare me for my move to another state. I took my car to the shop today because coolant was leaking and they informed me that I need an new expansion tank. I called Kummrow to see if I can get the part from them since it was under warranty and also explained that I would take it to them if I still lived in the area and not 15 hours away. The father informed me that he would not pay for shipping. I stated that I would and he went on to say that he wasn't going to ship the part all of the United States and also that I was 3 days past my original warranty. I would of thought since I've been a customer for these past 3 years and considering how much work my older BMW has had there, plus referrals, that they could at least help me out, but NOPE!
