Terrible service. So rude. Ignores you when you try to order. The worst. Not coming back.

My Husband really loves Kumo so we stop in often. The sushi is always good but the service is extremely slow. I usually order an entree instead of sushi, we never receive our meal at the same time. If you are looking for a quick sushi fix this is a great spot. If you are looking for a nice sit down dinner, not so much. read more

Terrible experience. Waited a very long time for a server to take our order. All of our food came out at a different time. I was served the wrong food, and when they realized they gave me the wrong food, they took it from me (after I touched it!!) and I saw them serve it to someone else. It was at least 10 minutes until I got my food. Good sushi, bad service. read more

Surprisingly, not bad for sushi in CT and the northeast. The fish tastes fresh and the place is great for large parties. Decent prices, and if you go on Sundays, they have a 1/2 off sushi menu. read more

This is an average Japanese place that would be overpriced if they weren't sending out coupons every week in the mailer. The service is not so great either. The only plus over sushi palace up the street is that you don't have any problem parking or getting a table. read more

I was here for a birthday dinner for a friend, we did hibachi. The food was salty, the service was decent at best. We sat there for a while after we ate and the waiters were eyeing us down the whole time so we felt pressured to leave. It was a Monday Evening... no one else in the hibachi area... and a handful of tables in the dining area.... what's the deal with that? The New Haven location has better tasting food. read more

I support the other reviews which compliment Kumo's sushi. Otherwise an average hibachi joint, the sushi here is WAY above average for the area. The fish is fresh, and their special maki are particularly creative and tasty. I'm a bit of a sushi snob, and I get odd looks when I recommend Kumo, but you owe it to yourself to give it a chance. Family friendly too... enjoy your sushi while the kids watch the corny hibachi show! read more

I've really only been to Kumo for the half price lunch specials. The sweet potato roll is definitely my favorite, and it's pretty crispy. The seaweed was fairly chewy, so had a bit of chewing to do to get through my other rolls. Certainly not bad for the price, but I've had better sushi elsewhere nearby. read more

Not a bad place to get sushi and bento boxes for lunch, especially between 11-3 for the half price rolls. I've have hibachi there a few times, and it's always fun. Good soups. Service can be spotty (waitstaff can be a bit cold, and I've not only experienced this, but have also heard it through word of mouth.) A big plus? Some of the cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen in any restaurant! The decor is nice, too--not too overstated, not too gaudy. Worth a stop. read more

Going downhill fast, I think. We just ordered lunch from there. I got a Chichen Teriyaki Bento Box. The entire meal was cool to cold... and I was on time for pick-up. The rice was starting to harden, the teriyaki sauce was starting to congeal. They didn't put chopsticks in the bag so the California roll fell apart when trying to pick it up and a fork. The salad was just iceburg lettuce, filled with water (like they washed it on the spot and didn't do anything to allow it to drain). I've had better food from Kumo's, but between that and an argument with the hostess at the New Haven one for using a debit card when my order was under $15, I think I'll stay away from this place from now on. read more

This is close to the worst service I've ever had. When I walked in, I could see that they were busy but waitstaff walked by us and did not greet us. We awkwardly stood there until someone finally asked if we were being helped. Once we were seated, it took 15 minutes for someone to take our order. Then waiting for our food also seemed too long. The sushi seemed overpriced, especially considering that most people like to order 2-3 rolls and not spend $40+ on it. Because of the horrible service and menu prices, I can't give this place more than a star. read more

The Kumo on Elm Street is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in New Haven. This Hamden location looks like a very different restaurant in terms of atmosphere, or lack thereof, but the food is just as good and the customer service is a bit better here. Hamden does not have much to offer in the way of dining options so this is my default restaurant choice when I'm in the area. read more

The sushi really isn't the best but you can't beat half price rolls for lunch! Their Bento boxes are a good deal too. I get take out here for lunch all the time. They are really skimpy on soy sauce for take out and seem to get mad when I ask for extra soy sauce or chopsticks. read more

Food great! Super fast! Super good! The lady waiter excellent service she was very sweet and helpful! But he had a bad experience with one male waiter who, he brought us a check and I asked about an item that didn't have a discount on and we thought it was discounted. He in a very roud tone and gestures telling us that the item (sashimi entree) wasn't included in the 50% discount and we told him the lady who took our orders told us every thing was! He got really mad and said that one is not and said know I should pay! we look for the first waiter and she fixed our check and then we went to the manager who was next to the exit and while my husband was talking to her I abruptly approached them and engaged madly in the conversation. The manager was really nice too, we left and left them speaking in their language. That man should be working in the back , not with customers. Sorry but this issue made it very very unpleasant. read more

Great food, and unbelievably cheap rolls. I have been coming to Kumo's for at least ten years now. Usually I come during the day, so I sit at the bar and eat. It is always a very pleasant experience, and very fast service. Would recommend to all, cannot wait to visit again! read more

Some of the best sushi in hamden. The lunch specials on the sushi are really cheap at make it worth going there. They have a huge variety here. Some of my personal favorite are the peanut avocado, eel avocado, and salmon avocado. The hibachi is also really good as well. Not as good as the sushi, but still top notch. Their service here is alright. Most of the waiters and waitresses do not speak that great English, so they aren't that great at answering questions about the menu, but they can take your orders very well. Overall i'd say if you are in the area and are craving sushi or hibachi then this is a great place to go for a good price and good food! read more

When I worked in Hamden and wanted some Sushi, we would order from Kumo. And they're fine, but nothing spectacular. And it's pretty "normal" sushi fare with staff that pretty much doesn't talk to you. Meh, I'd rather go elsewhere. read more

I've had sushi here before, so this review is not based on one experience. This past trip left me and a friend with food poisoning. After 24 hours of "losing weight" (nicest way I could put that!) I called them and spoke to 2 different ladies. One called me back after she needed to speak with the manager. She told me that my friend and I needed to get checked out at a clinic to make sure it was due to their food. They offered no other help and was rude beyond belief. I will NEVER go here again and I highly suggest you do not either. Please spread the word. read more

Service was horrible, she forgot to bring out my fried rice with my chicken hibachi dinner... she forgot to place my friends order of two California rolls. Been here many times, often take out - was always ok. Especially with the 50% off normal rolls. Today one of my orders was a Boston roll. I didn't get what I expected to get (I expected to get what it said on google and the last time I ordered the exact same roll for takeout at Kumo). I asked the (not very friendly) Server what that specific roll was supposed to be. He couldn't tell me by looking at it and asked me what I ordered. I told him my issue and he started being very rude and started a discussion. I showed him what's supposed to be in that roll on my phone - he just took my phone out of my hand without asking. At some point I went over to the guys making the sushi to ask them what they put in a Boston roll. They couldn't speak English at all and just pointed over to my rude server. My rude sever at some point "offered" me to ask the guys making the sushi. I replied that I already did that but they don't speak English at all. That was one of a couple moments he just walked away. So instead of just offering me to get that roll I asked for he disturbed my whole meal. VERY UNFRIENDLY, BARELY ENGLISH SPEAKING STAFF That was the first time ever I gave no tip! read more

This is by far the best place to get hibachi and sushi. I come here two to three times a week, and it has never disappointed!! The service is fast, and the staff are very friendly, especially Henry who goes above and beyond to make sure we are completely satisfied! Great steals on lunch-time sushi! Also they are quick and I mean quick in getting take out orders ready. I've never had to wait more then 10 min for sushi. I get my oil changes done at the dealer up the street and I walk down to Kumo to get lunch if Im on break. They also have great Bento Boxes. I LOVE the salmon teriaki!!! You can never say no to 50% off sushi. Love ordering from here for lunch because it's always enough to save for dinner if need be. Their lunch prices are great for the amount of food that is received. This location is smaller than the Kumos located in downtown new haven but gives a better ambiance and feel. read more

Always enjoyed coming here and never had an issue but my most recent visit was probably my last. We were seated for hibachi but my friend ended up getting sushi so we were moved to a table in the main dining room, didn't seem too big a deal since we'd only gotten our drinks. But the whole rest of the meal 3 of the waitresses were staring and whispering at us and when I asked for a refill I was at first told no, then I could have half a glass, and then was brought a full glass. We used to love Kumo, but just had an awful meal there. I think it may have changed owners since our last visit last months ago. Two of us had several sushi rolls , all overwhelmed with sauce. The fish had no flavor / so I guess that's why they use so much sauce. Our friend had a hibachi platter. Also loaded with sauce, salt and awful. We don't plan on going to Kumo again. The only reason this is one star is because Yelp won't let me post it with none! read more
