I ordered grubhub from here. I always go to the new city location which is really good. This place was totally opposite. I had the worst tuna pizza ever. I ordered not spicy and there was no tuna on it and the bottom crust was like a basic cracker. The wasabi mayo was not like the one in new city and the sashimi was tough to cut. One of my top sushi spots. The yellowtail jalapeño is phenomenal both in the restaurant and for takeout. The staff are warm and welcoming.

Great place, I thought only NYC had good sushi, it's worth the drive to this beautiful little town just 30 min from Manhattan. If you are north of George Washington bridge, it's worth the beautiful drive and enjoy some good food. I called a number of Sushi restaurants and they were the only ones that had Uni, Toto and tasty scallop after a busy weekend. The staff was friendly and went the extra mile. Sorry I did not take pictures but I was eating my food as fast as it came out. I highly recommend this sushi restaurant, I will be back tomorrow and the next time I'm in town. read more

We really liked Kumo. A great find in Pearl River. You can order anything from hibachi to sushi to regular entrees. We started with the Shishito Peppers and Edamame as an appetizer. DEFINITELY recommend both! The peppers were really good. Sushi platter as you can see from the picture was quite the variety and as the boys said "Very fresh and delicious". I had the beef negimaki as an entree. It was served with broccoli and rice. It was good as was the vegetable teriyaki. Warm sake always good with sushi. I loved the decor of Kumo too. Waitress was very patient with us constantly ordering and asking for more drinks or water. Come to Pearl River and see what the buzz is all about when you come to Kumo. read more

Great restaurant! Super cool atmosphere inside and very clean. The service was fairly fast. I ordered the chicken teriyaki dinner box and everything in it was delicious. The California roll was great, very small pieces (which I prefer) and fresh. My friend ordered the chicken hibachi dinner and mentioned that some pieces of chicken were chewy. I came to Kumo Japanese Restaurant for lunch with a group of friends. Parking is easy to find (but beware it's metered street parking) and the interior is pretty creating a nice atmosphere, but the food is average (I was not at all impressed with the chirashi lunch I got - it would better be described as a plated assortment of seafood, tamagoyaki, and imitation crab with a side of rice), and while the service staff will ask the chefs if accomodations can be made, the chefs won't accommodate your entree requests. For example: a friend of mine asked if any of the rolls could be made riceless as they didn't have any riceless roll options on the menu like other sushi establishments sometimes have and while our server did say she would ask the sushi chef, she came back to tell us that the chef said no... this makes me question Kumo's willingness and ability to accommodate possible dietary restrictions and food allergies for customers. read more

My first experience to dine in this location and sadly there's no comparison with the Kumo New City location or other Japanese restaurant in the area. Ambiance is comparable but everything else mediocre. From service to the way they make their specialty rolls. I certainly have had better experience at the New City Kumo location, and Momoyama in Nanuet. Definitely this is not a place I would put on my list to return to in pearl river. read more

Great place for a quiet lunch meeting- Lunch special for two people with tip was $26 you really can't beat that! Ambiance is cute kind of dark for mid day but for dinner or a date it would be cute. Miso soup was good pretty standard- salad was ok - I ordered a spicy tuna roll and a cucumber roll- I'm basic ok- the spicy tuna was ok but the tuna portion itself was kind of lackluster for me- wasn't feeing super fresh. The cucumber was good they cut the cucumber super thin which I liked but it was a different thing than I'm used to- Now the person I was with had an eel roll which she liked and another roll I can't remember! Prompt service definitely quick for a under hour and a half lunch! Parking is on the street - metered so download that app or bring quarters. Right across from the train station in Pearl River so that would be super convenient if you take the train! read more

For those of you who may be unfamiliar or from out of the area, Ridgewood has 12,986 sushi restaurants. Of those, Kumo is my favorite. Whenever I walk in, the sushi chefs always say, "hi Jeff", probably because that's my name and I have eaten here quite often since they opened somewhere around 2004. The food is quite good, the staff attentive and it's really pretty inside, especially when the oft broken waterfall wall works properly. It's interesting because everyone who eats sushi in Ridgewood seems to have very well-defined opinions of which place is the best and can be quite passionate in their preference. My sister prefers Sakura Bana, a mere 3 doors down from Kumo. I think it's too crowded and noisy. Kumo has the right balance of great food, appropriate noise level, comfy seating and friendly staff. They also give 20% off if you pay cash during the week. I pay cash. read more

I walked in on a Monday evening with family. We walked over to Kumo after realizing that my favorite Thai spot in town was closed (Quan Thai) and I am glad it was, or else we would not have stumbled into this gem. We were looking for a filling yet quality food option after a long day. We found that this spot was located right around the corner in front of the train platform opposite from the Defiant. Upon arrival the hostess was very sweet and sat us down and told us the drinks available. It was a very quiet night but it was perfect. The decor was beautiful and very date night appropriate. The playlist was tooooooo good. Low R&B and jazz feels and the lights were soft. Would definitely recommend for an in town date night or intimate friends gathering. Not super large inside, but still good for a group. Now onto the food! I failed at taking pictures due to the hunger coursing through all of us, but I will speak on what I had and what others says about what they had. We had the vegetable tempura as our appetizer... It was good for what it was, prob wouldn't order again though. I also had the kani salad which I THOROUGHLY enjoyed. There are plenty of options on the menu; sushi, combo sushi roll options, hibachi, teriyaki, bento boxes, sides, etc. Many of the entrees come as some type of combo (side salad, miso soup, rice, the main dish. I had the teriyaki Salmon! Whoa! SOOOO GOOD! The Salmon was perfectly cooked over a bed of well cooked veggies. It was very flavorful. My daughter and I ate here Thursday night. We've been coming here for years, but it seems the past year that we've dined here, everything has exceeded expectations. The food is 5 star but tonight there was only one waitress serving the tables, so service was slow. The sushi was fantastic and I highly recommend Kumo!! I am a huge Sushi fan and pretty much have been to every Sushi restaurant in Rockland. But Kumo by far has to be one of the absolute best Sushi restaurants in the Rockland/Bergen area! The rolls are out of this world and every bite is amazing. From the modern Manhattan decor, to the helpful staff I can honestly say I have yet to find any flaws! I frequent this restaurant at least once every two weeks because I can't stay away. It also doesn't help I live right in the area. The ONLY downfall is that it is a small space and can get quite crowded on Fridays and Saturdays so I recommend making a reservation on those nights and they probably only accommodate groups up to 8 or 10 max. If you don't like sushi they have an extensive menu of Japanese food as well that is just as good. Some Helpful Tips: If you sit at the Sushi bar the chef usually will give you a special sample size appetizer of something not on the menu that is usually very yummy. And all of the special rolls are a decent size. I can usually have a salad, app and 1 and a half rolls and be completely full. I have yet to have a bad roll there but my favorites are the Crazy Roll and the Tropical Roll. And if you love avocado you must try the appetizer avocado salad! They are always adding new rolls to keep the menu interesting for us regulars. I know I gave $$$ but my friend and I go quite a bit and only spend about $35-$40 including tip (but excluding alcohol). Bring your appetite because you will not leave hungry! read more

I only wish that we had found this place sooner. I would rate this as one of the best sushi restaurants I have ever been to. The atmosphere was calm and inviting, the ingredients and food were so fresh. I am impressed. We started with the gyoza, which we always enjoy. But this gyoza... I don't know how to describe it other than we ordered more after we inhaled it. It was slightly crispy on the outside, but not too crispy, and the filling was made fresh. Some times you get that pre-prepared meat stuffing that is downright awful, but this.... it left me speechless. On to the beef negimaki. Fresh! Wasn't chewy, tender beef, perfect sauce. Then we had the duck spring roll. This was light, crispy, and served with hoisin which happens to be one of my favorite things. I could just eat these appetizers and still be satisfied. Then we sampled some of their rolls. I loved the combinations they put together. We had the dragon roll, with eel and avocado. This avocado was the freshest avocado I have ever had. It was still bright green. A lot of times I think it gets cut before hand and turns brown before you eat it, but this was soooo good and must have been cut right before being added to the roll. Then we had the crazy roll. This was my favorite... I think. It was a spicy tuna roll, wrapped with peppered tuna, scallions and more avocado. This was a perfect blend of spice, pepper and crunch. Everything I look for in a tuna roll was there. The last roll we had was the rock n roll. This had fried white fish and mango tucked inside, with crab meat wrapped around the outside. The ingredients were fresh, the taste was great. I have no complaints. They also get an A+ for presentation. Different size and shaped plates used with an attention to how the food appears. Very refreshing and hands down the best meal I have had in a while. Go try! read more
