Shrimp Tempura Roll

I had the Fancy Roll, The Spicy Girl Roll and a Shrimp Tempura Roll... all exceptionally Tasty! Service was superb and the atmosphere was nice. Do not be put off by the entrance, you'll be pleasantly surprised when you enter!

We really liked Kumo. A great find in Pearl River. You can order anything from hibachi to sushi to regular entrees. We started with the Shishito Peppers and Edamame as an appetizer. DEFINITELY recommend both! The peppers were really good. Sushi platter as you can see from the picture was quite the variety and as the boys said "Very fresh and delicious". I had the beef negimaki as an entree. It was served with broccoli and rice. It was good as was the vegetable teriyaki. Warm sake always good with sushi. I loved the decor of Kumo too. Waitress was very patient with us constantly ordering and asking for more drinks or water. Come to Pearl River and see what the buzz is all about when you come to Kumo.

Teriyaki chicken dinner box

Great restaurant! Super cool atmosphere inside and very clean. The service was fairly fast. I ordered the chicken teriyaki dinner box and everything in it was delicious. The California roll was great, very small pieces (which I prefer) and fresh. My friend ordered the chicken hibachi dinner and mentioned that some pieces of chicken were chewy. Otherwise, a good experience.

I came to Kumo Japanese Restaurant for lunch with a group of friends. Parking is easy to find (but beware it's metered street parking) and the interior is pretty creating a nice atmosphere, but the food is average (I was not at all impressed with the chirashi lunch I got - it would better be described as a plated assortment of seafood, tamagoyaki, and imitation crab with a side of rice), and while the service staff will ask the chefs if accomodations can be made, the chefs won't accommodate your entree requests. For example: a friend of mine asked if any of the rolls could be made riceless as they didn't have any riceless roll options on the menu like other sushi establishments sometimes have and while our server did say she would ask the sushi chef, she came back to tell us that the chef said no... this makes me question Kumo's willingness and ability to accommodate possible dietary restrictions and food allergies for customers.

One of my top sushi spots. The yellowtail jalapeño is phenomenal both in the restaurant and for takeout. The staff are warm and welcoming.

Sooo the food was just as tasty and fresh but had some different items which was nice. Inside is roomy and cozy. They had a small bar area and they do serve alcohol here so it's not BYOB like at Asahi. It was a tad slow on service but considering that only the owner and another waiter working that night so that's understandable. Overall it's a solid place for AYCE with a bar.

We ordered the sushi and sashimi combo for two along with the pepper tuna, and everything that came out looked beautiful and tasted even better. The fish was incredibly fresh, with clean, delicate flavors that really stood out. The presentation was also a nice touch, especially the decorative details that made the whole plate feel special. The pepper tuna was a highlight--perfectly seasoned with just the right balance of spice, and sliced thick enough to really enjoy the texture. On top of that, the restaurant itself was spotless and had a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere, which made the whole meal even more enjoyable. Definitely a place we'd come back to when we're craving fresh, high-quality sushi with great service.

I've been ordering from Koi 21 for years, but had never actually gone there to eat in (side note,…read morethe delivery experience with Koi is also amazing). Upon finally heading there to actually sit in the restaurant and eat, I was really pleasantly surprised. Koi is tucked away from the main stretch of restaurants in Pearl River and has its own parking lot which is an added plus. The interior of the space is really pretty - they actually have a koi pond with waterfall inside, which gives a really pretty vibe and they even have these tucked away spaces for more private dining as well. The staff is so friendly and attentive - your drink never gets close to empty before they're asking if you want a refill and the food comes out quickly. The food itself is DELICIOUS - definitely my go-to sushi spot in the area with a great variety, so if you're not a sushi fan, there's still hibachi and a lot of cooked dishes too, so there is something for everyone. The price for value is wild - the portions are big and the quality is always excellent. Some of my favorites are the crab rangoon, the veggie gyoza, tuna pizza, the rock shrimp (basically a bang bang shrimp that is SO delicious), and honestly any of the sushi rolls (the OMG and Crazy Tuna specialty rolls are always a hit and I always love a Philly roll with avocado and cucumber as well). There is a minimal upcharge for brown rice, which is my go-to. Another plus is that Koi has a full bar. The wine by the glass options are okay, but the lychee martini I had was decent! Not the best, but still a bonus and nice to have. I will still order delivery from Koi, but will also make more of an effort to get here for the great service, food, and atmosphere!

Sushi, sashimi, rolls, steak teriyaki, all good quality. I've been particularly happy with the "love boat for 2" entree lately. It's a nice assortment of sushi, 2 rolls and beautiful slices of sashimi. It's quite satisfying and reasonably priced. Comes with soup or salad for two. My kids love the steak teriyaki, but aren't crazy about the vegetables that come with it. They're a bit watery in the teriyaki. Overall, great experiences here and they never mess up an order. My takeout bags have been complete and never missing anything. I'll keep returning.

If you do dine here, I suggest skipping the appetizers and going straight to the main course options. Regarding the apps, the duck pancake was actually in a green wrap (which seemed odd) and the sauce overpowered the bits of duck inside. The spring rolls were large and had what looked to be alternative meat or something with similar consistency and didn't seem overall that fresh. The fried spring rolls were "ok." The best thing was the pad prik with veggies and tofu which wasn't oily but also didn't feel like it was amazing. It appears you can order online when they're open which is a plus if you hate using the phone. I'll leave the caveat that I'm not a Thai food connoisseur but usually enjoy it. I wish that I felt more positive since it's a small business! Maybe I'd give them another chance if I was eating in the restaurant. Metered street parking and doesn't seem too hard to find parking. No credit card processing fee.

We still kept the Sushi Sandwich, Eel Avocado Roll, Mango Hawaii Roll, and the Pink Lady Roll, all of which have been consistently unbelievable. However, we also swapped in some substitutes for the other rolls. First, we included a Yellowtail Scallion Roll, which was a bit small, but delicious. Then, we also incorporated the Shrimp Hibachi, which came with white rice and a clear soup. The broth had a lot of flavor and contained fragrant mushrooms. The hibachi dish had a load of fresh vegetables (carrots, broccoli, zucchini, onions, and mushrooms) and a generous portion of grilled shrimp that were cooked through to the perfect plumb bites. The sauce was lighter than a teriyaki would have been, which was what we were hoping for. Yet again, it was another excellent curation of menu items. While I do love the duck breast and lamb chops included with the Classic package, we all felt Essentials was enough for this visit. Celia was our waitress. While things were a little slow getting started, once our first order went in, the food started flying out. Everything we ordered throughout the evening arrived much faster than it did on my previous visit. The menu makes it sound like they'll throttle you to only a couple of items at a time, but that really wasn't our experience. We were consistently able to order several items per person, so there was always something on the grill, more food on the way, and plenty to keep us chomping away. Our favorites this time? The top blade, brisket, hanger steak, pork belly, and even the salmon ceviche, which was surprisingly refreshing between rounds of grilled meat. We did have a couple of hiccups, but Celia was eager to make things right. After we received the wrong shrimp twice, she took it upon herself to get the manager involved. They tracked down the correct shrimp and brought it out. Thanks! Speaking of the manager, Andy was terrific. After another unpleasantry at our table, he came over and sincerely apologized several times. It was obvious he genuinely wanted to make things right. After we took a quick selfie together, he got us with a few complimentary cocktails. I have to say, anything here with cucumber in it is delicious here. Super refreshing. By the end of the meal, my son was a fluent griller and even said he liked Gyuzo more than the other all-you-can-eat BBQ places we've visited. That's about as good an endorsement as I can give. We'll certainly be back.

Unfortunately, we never even got to eat at the restaurant because of how disorganized the front desk was. We were quoted a 35-45 minute wait and were told to join the Yelp waitlist. We stood nearby the entire time waiting to be called. We never received any notification on our phones, and when we checked the app, our status had somehow changed from "waiting" to "cancelled." When we spoke with the hostess, she apologized and told us to wait because she would seat us next. Instead, we watched four other parties get seated before us. After waiting even longer, we went back to ask what was happening, only to be told it would be another 15-20 minutes. From what we observed, it also seemed like the restaurant was prioritizing seating larger parties over smaller ones. I can't say for certain whether that was their policy, but that's certainly how it appeared from our experience as multiple larger groups were seated while we continued to wait despite being told we were next. I completely understand that popular restaurants get busy, and I have no issue waiting my turn. What I do have an issue with is poor communication and disorganization from the hostess team. Mistakes happen, but telling customers they'll be seated next and then repeatedly seating other parties first is unacceptable. To make matters worse, this was our second night this weekend trying to eat here, and once again we left without ever getting a table. Despite the inconvenience and poor experience, no one offered an apology beyond a brief acknowledgment, nor was there any attempt to make things right or show goodwill for the time we had wasted. The food may be excellent, but we'll never know because the front-of-house experience was so poorly managed. A great restaurant starts with good customer service, and unfortunately, the hostess team left a very poor first impression. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this restaurant.

We had tableside hibachi when my toddler turned 2, and recently took my nephew here as he's never had it. You pick your choice of protein(s), and noodles, fried rice, and veggies are included, along with a small appetizer and broth soup and salad. The chef then puts on an interactive show, involving some pyrotechnics (who doesn't love fire!) and other razzmatazz. The adults even get saki shots! Now the food: the noodles and rice are great, but to be honest the chicken and steak are somewhat bland and would taste better if they were pre-marinated rather than just cooked in the sauce. So I'm here for the fun not the food. But it's plentiful and you definitely won't go home hungry. The sushi is quite good and fresh. I was so pleasantly surprised at the quality when I ate here 3-4 years ago after returning for the first time in over a decade, as once upon a long long time, the sushi was pretty subpar. But that's clearly changed! This is one of my local go-to's now for sushi. Tempura ice cream is a good way to finish the meal!
