3 roll lunch maki $14.99 (includes miso soup and salad)
    Annette M.

I came here during the weekday for lunch. I chose the 3 roll maki lunch special ($14.99)l. They also have 2 roll for $11.99 the Lunch special's included miso soup and salad with that yummy dressing. All very good! There was a table with about 6 people seated just before me. I was afraid it would take to long to get my order but I got it a fairly quickly. I had enough time within the hour lunch break to casually eat my lunch and make it back to work. Service was quick and attentive. Lunch prices are fair and most importantly food was very good! This review is for the sushi only. Interior was a little dark at first, but nicely decorated, but it was a very hot day and the ac was blasting which was very welcomed. There's a flat screen tv on.I would come back again; lunch menu has many choices to choose from. Recommended!

    Chicken fried rice

The food was mediocre. I ordered chicken fried rice and it was chicken and rice and so many onions with soy sauce all over. There wasn't any flavor besides soy sauce. I couldn't even eat it. I ordered goyza udon soup and it was ok nothing to write home about. My husband got chicken lo mein, it was okay but nothing special. We were just passing through on our way back to the city, but I wouldn't come back here again if we took the same stop.

Very fresh sashimi here in good price. And special rolls are pretty yummy. The one thing I don't like is the hot food are too salty.

FOOD (3/5) - Pork Katsu Cutlet Lunch Special (Main, $13.95, 3/5) - Could've been better. Pork was cooked carelessly - some way overcooked, crisped into oblivion such that the meat was turned dark brown and dry, while some were passable with breading falling off. Spring roll was mushy, and rice was put in a hurry. Side salad and california rolls were decent and miso soup was just there. They overall tasted alright and it is a good value esp. with soup & salad. I wished they would put 10% more and charge $16 instead because quantity left me wanting. - Hamachi and Salmon nigiris (Main, $2.50/pc, 4/5) - I had to try their sushi as it looked nice and fresh right in front of me. Both did not disappoint: fresh & silky fish with rice just right. They weren't out of the world though and slightly expensive for what they were. Overall I left satisfied, but I also spent close to $25 w/ tax just for myself because lunch special quantity was slightly lacking and I sub'd with expen$ive sushi. That said, I think Hikaru offers a pretty good quality and value for the locals - check them out next time you're in the area.

What I love most is that the sushi isn't buried under sauces and toppings because it's so tasty, there's no reason to cover it up. The fish is fresh and clean tasting, as sushi should be. Cream cheese on top of sushi? If one sees that on your sushi menu, turn around quickly and dart out the door - it's just a camouflage of the not so recently caught fish. After falling in love with sushi during visits to Kyoto and Tokyo, I'm pretty picky about my fish, and Sabi never disappoints. The restaurant is cozy, with a small sushi bar that makes it perfect for date night or a low key dinner with friends. The sake martinis are excellent, and the service is always friendly and attentive. Doug, the owner and chef, and his elegant wife are wonderful hosts and make everyone feel welcome. Another bonus: they're open on Mondays, which is surprisingly hard to find in the restaurant world of Piermont. If you're looking for fresh, straightforward sushi without all the gimmicks, Sabi is well worth the trip to Piermont.

It's a classic and simple Japanese cuisine owned and run by a Korean mom-pop couple who bought the restaurant from another Korean mom-pop owner/chef duo in the early 2000s. This tiny but mighty restaurant has survived a fire, pandemic and two recessions. In spite of it all, their food and service are always good. I do have to mention that their fried oysters are new on the menu and a bit too briny/oceany for my taste. They also have some sushi pieces with "MP" for market price; be sure to ask what that price is. Our server, while wonderful, did not explain how much the uni was and it was a doozy on our bill ($15 per single sushi piece; not for both as written on the menu so be attentive when you order!) This is a genuinely small business so there are only a few tables and some bar seating. Go when it's not rush hour to avoid crowds. They can get impacted. But the wait is always worth it. Stick to the raw bar. They have good quality fresh fish. Their makis (rolls) are also good if you want something more dynamic and bold but I like just plain raw fish on a bed of sushi rice. The sushi chef here is a veteran sushi chef with decades of experience so it's worth trying if you love sushi. I always enjoy supporting the good old family run small businesses and this one is definitely worth it. Great spot for families, dates, and even solo meals.

Both came with soup and salad, and we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary tuna tataki appetizer. We also had the nigiri saki. The food was decent and, importantly, very fair for the price. This isn't high-end Japanese dining, but it doesn't pretend to be - what they charge is reflected in what they serve, and we felt we got good value for our money. I'll keep my memories of my meals in Tokyo and Kyoto separate since as one can imagine, there is no comparison. Our waitress was a real highlight: humorous, polite, attentive, and genuinely respectful. Good service goes a long way. Definitely worth knowing about if you're in Piermont and looking for a reasonably priced Japanese meal close to home.

The atmosphere gives off a trendy vibe, with a chef from Chopped behind the concept. It was pretty busy on a Saturday evening but tables were available indoor and outdoor. Reservations are probably a good idea if you come at a busy time. Similar to a tapas or dim sum place, you check off your order on a slip of paper. Really enjoyed the complex yet simple flavors of the shrimp dumplings (3) though they were very small bites, the fish taco (1), and the pork belly lettuce wrap plate. Each dish is paced out to you as they see you finish. The lobster taco was good but at $17, pricey, for its small size. Savor each dish because they will be gone before you know it. They charge a mandatory 4% kitchen fee, which I understand in theory but not in practicality for customers in these times. This evening there were a few Lantern flies spotted, one of which landed in my glass of water. Parking is easy and shared with a few other nearby businesses. They also have Taco Tuesdays to get discounted tacos. This is enticing because each taco is small and not filling in its own.

I picked a beautiful spot, and almost immediately Kenny brought me sparkling water, complimentary eggplant caponata, and bread that tasted like it had been baked by someone in heaven! I started with the Millefoglie Di Melanzane "Alla Mamma Carolina"--thinly layered eggplant, San Marzano D.O.P. tomato sauce, and 18-month Parmigiano Reggiano. I make eggplant Parmesan at home, but this was on an entirely different level. Absolutely out of this world. As a special favor, they also prepared a half portion of Buccatini Carbonara for me: Roman-style bucatini with guanciale, egg, Pecorino Romano, and black pepper. My only complaint? I didn't get the full portion! It was outstanding. For my main course, I ordered the Costatella Di Cervo, a marinated venison chop with red wine, juniper berries, and herbs, chargrilled and served over soft Ribiola cheese polenta with port wine and fresh figs. I normally wouldn't order venison, but I am so glad I took the chance. It was spectacular--tender, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Dessert was the Italian ricotta cheesecake, and I had a decaf cappuccino with foam that was like whipped cream The restaurant itself is charming and beautifully decorated, the service is truly exquisite, and the food is beyond belief. Kenny, Kimberly, and the entire team made my birthday dinner an experience I won't forget. I am so happy I found this gem in Sparkill! I can't wait to come back.
