The food was on point. Buttery and fresh sashimi pieces. The rice on their rolls are not thick at all and the flavors are so good. We were not able to take pictures of all of our orders but we ordered their Philadelphia roll and the cucumber rolls (no rice), as well as some sashimi and shrimp/vegetable tempura. Hinode is fine for a sushi meal - nothing especially memorable except for the lovely waitress who genuinely aims to please. That said, if you're craving raw fish it's convenient for a Piermont resident, affordable, easy to get a table, and takeout is always an option. A lot of the menu leans toward rolls drenched in heavy sauces which makes it hard to tell just how fresh the fish really is... or isn't. But if you order a sushi entrée, it does come with soup and salad. They also serve Nigori sake, not always a given at more middle-of-the-road sushi spots, so that's a definite plus if you like the milky stuff like I do. It's easy, it's quiet, and they'll occasionally throw in a few extra pieces, which is always appreciated. Being right off 9W makes parking simple, proving that in Piermont easy parking does still exist, even if it's not where you expect it. read more

After driving by this little "hole in the wall/Hinode in the wall" many times, we decided to finally try Hinode. First off "hole in the wall" only refers to how I viewed it at night. Small, not many cars, middle of nowhere and an "Open" neon light in the window. Inside, it's a quaint and very welcoming. About 10 - 12 tables, lots of wood and a sushi bar as the main attraction. We were the only ones in there **, so we took the opportunity to ask the waiter some questions. To our surprise, Hinode has been open for 21 years. From our own perception, it looks family owned. We saw 3 generations working that day. We were in the mood for sushi, so that's what we came for. But we did start with the Shumai Dumplings. Which were so delicate, tiny and full of flavor. Next time we'll get two orders. Sushi Cupcake, 2 Special Rolls (one with Shrimp Tempura & one loaded with fish) and a Tuna/Salmon Avocado Roll which was compliments of the Sushi Master. I've driven past this unassuming place hundreds of times and I've been dying to try it and I FINALLY DID! I was pleasantly surprised at how fantastic everything was, including the service--and they even gave us a sushi roll on the house. Thank you! I wanted to try something different so we ordered a Hudson roll that comes without rice and it was too good. One of the best. Also ordered a roll that had bulgogi beef on-top, wow so savory and delicious. I think it was called the Hinode something...I know that's not very helpful--and it seemed like they were trying it out on the menu because they asked how we liked it. We loved it. The place is cute and small, service is speedy and you can see the chefs preparing the rolls. I think this sushi spot sets itself apart from the rest and has its own unique twist that I appreciate. I can't say enough good things about this hidden gem. I always drove past it coming home from work and decided to stop in to get an order to go. So thankful I did because that's when I found my new favorite sushi take out place! Their sushi is beyond fresh and delicious. There is a ton of options and creative rolls which I love. But it's not the delicious food that has me going back. The staff and services is incredible. Each time I have stopped in they are so gracious and friendly. I think I may have visited on an off night because most reviews are good. First there is no public bathroom available. The miso soup is good, the salad is not . It's pretty much a small plate of chunks of Romain and ginger dressing. My friend found a hair in her salad and our waiter apologized and made up for it for giving us sushi as an appetizer. The sushi was fresh and tasted good. I ordered a shrimp tempura and vegetable dinner that came with rice. It wasn't bad but very fried and not very good. I should have known that considering it was a tempura meal. That not the restaurants fault. We ended the meal with fried green tea ice cream and it was the best part of the entire meal. If I were to come back I would go for the ice cream and try the sushi. read more

We had a reservation for 4 @ 6:30 PM, and felt that was a good decision as the place is small and can get busy also! The food was excellent... we ordered sushi's and were out standing! I also had cold sake which was amazing! The service was excellent except the initial confusion of, "are they the right people?!" Kinda look on the hostesses face! In other words the way we were made to wait for a few minutes was like the lady doubted if we could have made a reservation or not! Well the great good made it for out for our group! Was searching for a udon place and read the reviews here. The soup base was a little bland but noodles perfect, chewy not mushy. Would have been perfect with a poached egg. We also got sushi special perfect for 2 pfried oyster and chirashi. The sushi rice was perfect, not too vinegary and right consistency. Fish slices smaller which I like. Tuna tatake... I think that's what it's called is an appetizer that is seared tuna and delicious. The 9w roll shrimp Tempura is also delicious. Service is prompt and they are so polite and attentive. Amazing sushi! We were driving back from North Carolina and found this place on a detour - it's worth a detour next time we are in the area.

Reasonable prices for a hearty meal. Whenever I come home from college, I come here with my parents because we know we can rely on Hinode for a satisfying meal. For starters they always give you free appetizers like a small plate of edamame followed by a plate of salad with peanut sauce. Both are a nice beginning to your meal. I've had chirashi here, which is decent. But lately my family has been ordering pretty much the same thing. 1) Lunch boxes. My mom always gets the chicken terriyaki + veggie tempura + california roll + dumpling + miso soup lunch box, which she loves. Great deal for the price. I personally find the chicken a bit dry. California rolls are just california rolls. It's hard to mess up. The tempura is nice and the dumpling tastes like Chinese dumplings--greasy, yummy, and warm. 2) Nabe Udon- my dad ALWAYS gets this. It's clean and hot. But be careful because this has a very strong mushroom flavor. If you like mushrooms, this is great, but if not, do not get it. 3) I get a different roll every time. This time I got the dynamite roll which is fried avocado + tempura topped with cheese and fish eggs. I didn't really like it that much because I'm not a big fan of American cheese. I was expecting cream cheese or something. But the rolls here are generally decent. Best part is that the lady there always gives us a free dish and it's usually spicy tuna tempura roll. The tuna's a bit too dry and the sushi often falls apart, but I'm still very thankful! For dessert, the restaurant always gives us a cup of Sujeonggwa, which is a Korean cinammon persimmon drink. It's stronger than the canned version, but still a great clean finish to a hefty meal. read more

Start yourself off with their Pepper Tuna Salad! If you're looking for some sushi without rice, Hudson Roll is the way to go - I'm slightly allergic to cucumbers but that never stops me! Otherwise, you can't go wrong with their other House Special Rolls (Tuna Love Roll and Red Hinode Roll are my absolute favorites). Make sure you try their Tempura Fried Ice Cream! Cozy little restaurant with some really great dishes. I am writing this immediately post-meal. As for parking, they have a small private parking lot that is shared with the mini mart next door. My boyfriend and I just dropped by here on a random Saturday night around 6pm. At first we were the only ones there but it gradually got a bit busier. We started with soft drinks and edamame as our appetizer. As this was our first time here, I guess what they usually do is bring it out plain and you can add salt to your taste. We ordered chicken yakisoba, a tuna roll, a sweet potato roll (which isn't even on the menu but I asked and they made it for me anyway!), and a Philadelphia roll. The miso soup came with my boyfriend's yakisoba was so good - there are only a couple of places that make it like they do at Hinode. The yakisoba also came with salad and ginger dressing. Everything came out so timely and my hot tea was refilled often. When our sushi and noodles came out, they even gave us a beautiful roll on the house! This place is a nice little hidden gem. I usually go with my family and we get the Sushi combo with some tempura udon. First off the tempura is on point. It is always done right and is probably the crispiest tempura I've ever had. It's a must and really...who doesn't love fried food? Their sushi is great, tastes very fresh and they don't give you too much rice on their rolls. It is always a treat because they have always given a complimentary special roll on the house or an avocado bomb (Be careful of the wasabi sauce on the bottom of the avocado bomb) During our most recent visit, we were given an avocado bomb AND another special roll.
