The unagi was heated and placed on a shiso leaf (strangely flavorless here). Nigiri (smelt roe = salty, mackerel) tasted fine. The decently hot miso soup had silken tofu and wakame. Takoyaki was hot and had a crispy outer shell, though almost too much eel sauce. The garlic shrimp butter tasted like regular stir fry shrimp and was almost overcooked. I didn't taste much butter or garlic even though I could see it. The baked mussel was hot and covered in mayo-cheese sauce but didn't taste like much of either. The spicy tuna roll tasted okay though it looked unnaturally red. The crawfish handroll was packed with not too dry crawfish. I liked how the rest of the filling wasn't too much because some places add too much rice, cucumber, and sauces. The fried oyster roll had crab mix, avocado, and dry fried oyster tempura. It would have tasted better if the seafood was edible. The spider roll was a little better as the fried soft shell crab was softer, but it didn't taste like anything either. I was surprised the raw food tasted better than the fried and saucy items at this buffet. The green tea and cookies and cream ice cream scoops were soft. The sashimi did not seem very fresh, and you could tell from both the texture and taste. We politely asked if they could check it or replace it, but they did not seem very willing to help. The sushi itself was also hard and dry, almost like it had been sitting out for a long time, and the fillings did not taste fresh either. Overall, the whole meal felt uncomfortable to eat. Hopefully the restaurant can improve the freshness of the food and overall customer experience.

I proceeded to enjoy a very strong whiskey flight (which means a lot coming from me), a seaweed salad that was a bit too crunchy or stiff, ikrua don, crab croquette and some admittedly super sticky, gummy, shrimp dumplings...like would not separate from the steamer paper sticky. While the offerings were not my cup of tea, the place is beautifully decorated and seems to fill up around dinner service so it may be worth the stop if you're in the area. Everyone was very nice and I always appreciate a spot offering jellyfish, takowasa, and takoyaki in Cypress.
