I think this place is better than most all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants in Houston! The food came out quickly, everything was super fresh, and it tasted delicious. This was such a disappointing experience :( I saw the reviews and believed the food would be top notch. It wasn't. I wonder if the time of the day had anything to do with the quality of the food. We got there around 9 pm and i was done with the food by 9:20 pm. They have half the options as Chi, these are exactly the same but nowhere close as tasty. The fish did not taste fresh. The sushi rice was not even seasoned. It tasted like white rice and was moosh. The ginger OH LORD THE GINGER WAS MOLDY!!!! like, I have an excellent sensen of smell... like, I can tell when water has been stagnant for a lengthy period of time... water. The ginger smelled like yeast and mold and it tasted like it too. :( The shrimp tempura was too hard. The coconut shrimp was good I also tried the peppered tuna and mango salmon... these were ok The server was sweet and charismatic but I felt very fake telling her the food was good when it wasn't. This review is going to be a little different since it's coming from a non-seafood consumer at an all you can eat sushi restaurant. However, it was an experience worth my review! Sushi is my husband's favorite food. He loves all things seafood basically, with sushi being at the top of his list. I don't eat anything seafood and never really have. I just can't bring myself to do it. That's why we were so intrigued to come across Sushi Haya since they also offer all you can eat hibachi. How is everyone not obsessed with this place? It was such an enjoyable experience for us! For $30 per person (at dinner time) you get all you can eat appetizers, dessert, sushi and hibachi. That's an incredible deal, especially in this time of inflation. I've never eaten anywhere that you can get unlimited hibachi. I had a mixed greens salad, beef kabobs (My favorite thing!), beef hibachi, beef fried rice, chicken fried rice, a chicken crunch roll, and red bean ice cream. Everything was great. There was nothing I wouldn't order again and I'm already looking forward to the next time I have dinner there. I was just really impressed with the options they had for people who don't eat sushi to enjoy. Our server was so nice and attentive. She even gave us recommendations and answered every question we had about the menu. She also brought me a sample when I wasn't sure if I would like the ice cream. My only disappointment is that we never had any food brought by the robot waiter! But it was really cool to watch it go and serve other tables. My friend and I met for lunch here in late March since it was near his residence. He mentioned it was AYCE so I'm glad I skipped breakfast. You can order whatever you like upon order so we went all out starting with soups, peppercorn tuna, and shrimp yaki udon before loading up on the sushi. Their specialty rolls we tried included: -Lake charles roll (crawfish, cream cheese, jalopeno; roll deep fried) - 5/5 -Shaggy dog (shrimp tempura w/ avocado) - 3.5/5 -Surf & turf roll (spicy tuna roll w/ seared angus beef w/ spicy sauce) - 5/5 We also did individual sushi pieces including the snapper, octopus, crab stick, shrimp, and yellowtail along with salmon hand roll and spicy tuna roll. The snapper and octopus were both my favorites out of the individual pieces. Didn't care for the crab stick since it tasted like imitation crab. We finished it off with some green tea ice cream and oreo tempura; both had the right amount of sweetness to cap off a very VERY large meal for us both. A couple months back this restaurant was featured by alot of Houston Foodie influencers. I was hesitant to visit since it was a 40+ minute drive but what made me want to visit was that they had baby octopus skewers which I had never seen before on an AYCE sushi menu! While this place was a 3.5 for me I am going to round up to a 4 because the lower rating is partially due to the long drive. This is because I live in the loop and wouldn't want to drive out specifically to go to this restaurant again. Since I feel like there are comparable AYCE places closer to me. However, if I was in Spring for something else I wouldn't mind stopping by My stand outs: Sashimi: 4 The sashimi pieces were cut very well and the quality was decent for an AYCE restaurant! Octopus Skewers: 4 I really enjoyed this dish since the sauce was really good! However, it was a bit over cooked since it was a bit too chewy. So make sure to put the whole thing in your mouth instead of just biting off parts. Rolls: 3 The rolls were average and what you'd normally see at any AYCE sushi place since they were filled with fillers to make you full. I wasn't very fond of the Surf and Turf though because it felt like things were just thrown together. Also, the beef was rare and super thin so it didn't add to the taste since it was over powered by the sauce on top. Takoyaki: 3 I was so excited by this but the Takoyaki were mediocre because there was barely any octopus and the sauce they used instead of mayonnaise was just ok. Appetizers: 3 While the appetizers are good alot of them were remarkably like the ones you'd buy from Costco/Sam's so nothing really special Service: 4 At first I was really nervous because a lot of the employees seemed to be newly trained. For example, the hostess who showed us to our seat had to look back to her superior multiple times to make sure we were at the right table. However, our actual server was a seasoned professional who checked in on us regularly, was patient with my family members when they'd change their minds, would clarify our orders with us, and was able to explain the menu/give recommendations. Disclaimer: There seems to be one robot so you'll have limited time with it. They do this little robot that can bring your order out. We were surprised by the crab Ragoon. We were expecting the fried appetizer with cream cheese, but it reminded me of a jalapeño bomber instead. The fried shrimp wonton was the fried appetizer with cream cheese that we were expecting. This is my fourth time at sushi haya doing the all you can eat experience. Each time I've gone, the food has progressively gotten less good, I won't lie. This time, the fish tasted less fresh, and the rice tasted old and stale. For $20, the AYCE is a pretty alright deal, but when the bill came around, the waiter was not clear about automatic gratuity on the iPad bill. She told me and my friend that we were changing the amount we could tip, so we each did 20%. That turned out to be an extra $5 to our bill in addition to the automatic gratuity. The crab rangoon, appetizer menu, is worth a try simply because it is such a different and tasty upgrade from the fried cream cheese wonton normally billed as crab rangoon.
