Kung Fu Kids is a great place to learn confidence and growth through Kung Fu as a teaching medium. Simply put, Kung Fu looks awesome and the kids all seem to pick up on the energy and excitement. Then using that as an opportunity to mentor and inspire students about how to use it in real life is a true win-win. Seeing the kids inspired also inspire me to get more physically fit for my day-to-day life. I took some of the exercises and stretching lessons and use it for my self and saw considerable improvements. Case in point, before being introduced to Kung Fu, I average my mile run around 13 minutes, but now I am sub-10 minutes. While a refund was processed, I'm hesitant to give a higher review because 1) I was contacted immediately after the refund was processed and asked to update my review or to remove it -- pretty sure this is not aligned with Yelp policies, 2) the company failed to act until I posted this review; prior to this, they ignored my complaints so we can imagine the number of other families who fell into the trap and did not get a refund, 3) they are using employees or associates to post fake 5 star reviews to compensate for the lower, authentic reviews, which also is in violation of Yelp polices. A few have been removed already. Overall, with practices like this, you should be wary of enrolling your child. There are many other upstanding businesses in the area. I just don't understand this back and forth, and now I'm learning that this company uses virtual concierges from another country to communicate with clients (see photo). Also we just had our little boy's 3 year old party here and it was soooo much fun!! We had 24 kids and I don't know how the coaches do it but they managed to keep all the little toddlers engaged for more than an hour!! The birthday party is so special, I highly recommend it if you have a little one who loves martial arts. My little one got to cut a cake with a sword, and he enjoyed it so much. We have been long time students at Wushu Central. we started at the San Jose location when my daughter was 4 years old. We watched instructors becoming main coaches and even sifu. And watching Wushu Central expanding their locations. I'm sure it's the same for the coaches as well to watch the students growing up. We recently moved to San Ramon and i'm glad that Wushu Central has a location in Pleasanton. This allows us to transfer our tuition from San Jose to Pleasanton so that my daughter can continue her wushu lessons. Initially, I was afraid if my daughter will not be used to it and will miss San Jose coaches and peers. But luckily Coach Kayvon was managing Pleasanton location. We know Coach Kayvon, he taught in san jose as well. It was nice for my daughter to see a familiar face when she started her first lesson at Pleasanton. While the lesson plans are different from San Jose and honestly my daughter was a little disappointed that she cannot learn her next weapon which would have been Spear. but overall i find that the new method of teaching these classes are much better than the san jose's. The teachers are great, while a tad bit more strict than san jose's location, they maintain the fun atmosphere so the kids will enjoy! Coach Canyon is great with little kids - he makes all the little kids laugh Coach Kayvon is so nice and patient - he's well liked amongst kids and parents Coach Ana is sweet i always recommend Wushu Central to other friends who are interested in martial arts. We truly appreciate Coach Quang for being such a wonderful Kung Fu instructor. He is fun, patient, and incredibly passionate about teaching. He never forces the kids to complete movements they are not ready for. Instead, he always encourages them warmly, and when they succeed, he praises them sincerely. To be honest, if we hadn't met him during our trial class, we might not have chosen this place for our Kung Fu lessons. A great coach makes all the difference, and he is exactly that kind of coach. Summary: this place, this entire organization, is a poorly and callously run business with no genuine regard for customers or the kids. Our five year old used to attend classes and we had been planning on having our younger child attend in the future. That's no longer going to be the case after the terrible experience we had. There are many other martial-arts schools out there that treat families with respect (not to mention actually teach skills that go beyond glorified play-time). I would strongly recommend avoiding Kung Fu Kids. Detail: - We cancelled our son's membership about a week ago and were told cancellation required 30 days' notice. Fair enough, we thought -- he'd finish out the month. - My wife takes our son to class today, and about 30 minutes into class one of the coaches informs her that our son is not in fact registered in the system anymore and that he needs to leave the class immediately. - My wife tells the coach that this shouldn't be the case, that she has an email mentioning 30 days notice, and that in any case, she's willing to pay for this class so our son doesn't have to be embarrassed and kicked out in the middle of it. - Coach repeatedly refuses and says that she can give our son a sticker. 1. Does "30 days notice" mean something different to this business than what it means to the rest of the English speaking world?? 2. Even if for whatever reason the powers at be at Kungfu Kids have decided to interpret this phrase differently, how heartless do you have to be to try to kick a kid out of a class halfway through, especially when the customer offers to pay for the class? Unfortunately, this is consistent with our broader impression of the school. Last month, we had relatives visiting with a four-year-old who wanted to try a class for fun. Instead of welcoming him, the staff focused only on pushing a long-term membership -- even after being told the family was only in town for a month. At the end of the day, the school projects an image of care and respect (firm handshakes and eye contact for the parents, stickers for the kids), but our experience shows it's all about the bottom line. Families deserve better. Update/edit: the owner of the school claims that no offer to pay for a drop-in class was made at the time, and that if such an offer had been made, our son would have been allowed to finish class. Problem is, this is exactly what my wife tried to do, and the response she was given was that the school does not allow drop-ins and if she wanted to pay she would have to pay for an entire month. Honestly pretty disappointing thar the owner is mis-representing the facts of what happened. read more
