Acceptable pho at a decent price, with pretty large portions! I'd say if you are in the area and are craving some pho, this will suffice for that purpose, but the noodle texure and soup flavor are not up to the standards of some of the restaurants in Manhattan. Still, worthwhile experience, so I would not regret it! read more

At the time of this review, this restaurant is the only convenient pho place in downtown Jersey City. The restaurant has some American fusion going on with pizza on the menu which we may try next time. The service was impeccable and attentive. The dragon pho was a little bland for my taste; however, the vegetable pho was really delicious. The beef tartar (Bò Tái Chanh) was delicious and spicy, and even when they didn't have it on the menu anymore, they were willing to serve it on request. The papaya salad and summer rolls were fresh as well. Though disappointed with the pho, the rest of the menu wasn't bad. If you're in the area and need a convenient place for some pho. Can't believe I never wrote the review but I have uploaded 7 photos because I have been here so many times!! It's great for a big group too, they have large round tables that can fit up to 10!! They have high chairs for the kiddo's. You can't go wrong with these dishes: 1) #1 Pho with everything 2) Special spring rolls ( emphasis on the special which has shrimp and pork) 3) Chicken Curry ( the bread, the curry, the potatoes in this curry - you have to try it for yourself to see) 4) Grilled pork/chicken/beef with spring rolls over vermicelli noodles - delish and great for summer 5) Catfish in a claypot - such good flavor. Food for the soul Service is fast. The people here also used to run the old Nha Trang on newark, so they know what's up!! Great pho in a local neighborhood is amazing. The menu is more expansive than most other Viet places but it's always nice to have to variety to switch it up. Spring rolls were nice and crisp and the pho was really good. The soup was only a little oily but it wasn't drenched in MSG to the point where I'm dying of thirst...it actually tasted pretty good. Drinks were pricey but the non-bubble teas are ok. Service was fast and there was always a person coming by to check on us...not sure if that's good or not depending on how much privacy you want. The place itself is a lot larger on the inside than it looks from the outside but it's good cause then there's easier chances of getting a table during the busy nights. read more

Another Asian Heritage month win! Now I can say I love pho & Vietnamese style food. We have a few diff appetizers that were surprisingly so good. The calamari & spring roll things were very different but good. And, the way the chicken was as if barbecued so flavorful Omg I literally look forward to returning. I'm sure this place has my bar high. Now, I will say, my friend made better homemade flan than this. I only had flan once but she made me love it...until this. This flan was bitter to me. I couldn't eat it all. The service was good, they only took forever to bring one persons food from our 10 person party so she was a bit annoyed. Otherwise, vibrant environment, they play a birthday song on the speakers of the entire restaurant & give a dessert to the bday person in your party lol. I can see why the reviews aren't so great. The issue is that nothing is worth the price that they charge. I ordered one of the beef Phos and two Banh Mi-s. For the charge they process, that was a tiny bowl of soup. Most places fill it up with the noodles because the noodles are cheap, nope, I get just a light dashing of it. It was accompanied by 3 pitiful slivers of beef and one piece of tripe as well as a few onion strips. The taste was, meh. I had to put hoisan sauce and sambal oelek to make it better. Simply not worth the price or the journy for their Pho. The pricing on all the other things, like the rice dishes and the buns were outrageous. They serve what is usually cheap Vietnamese food and extort and exorbitant price. It may not be their fault. With Jersey city so gentrified, rent may be going up. But damn, give us some more ingredients at least! The Banh Mi's were the shining star, and I use that term lightly mainly because I don't have another Vietnamese place in the surrounding area to compare it to. I love Bahn Mi's but 13 dollars per is a bit pricey. The meat was flavorful and the vegetables were just pickled enough. But again, skimping on the ingredients is a big negative. I would ONLY return for the Banh Mi's but not if the price goes up anymore. It just simply isn't worth it. read more

I stopped by for a quick dinner and although the food was fine, it was a little underwhelming especially for the price - one entree with two sides came to $40 before tax and tip. Despite it being a busy Saturday, everything was ready in about 10-15 minutes which was pretty quick. The chicken pho ($18) was pretty mild, the broth was not overly flavorful but did come out steaming hot with very tender rice noodles. There were a ton of veggies in the soup - large slices of carrots, broccoli, cabbage, bok choy, cilantro, basil, bean sprouts - which left less room for the meat or noodles. The summer rolls with steamed shrimp were $11 for 2 and they were not good. There was far too much shredded lettuce but almost no sauce so they were very dry and fell apart after taking a bite. Would not recommend. The best part was the Thai tea with boba ($10). You cannot adjust the sweetness / sugar levels which is not great, but it was not overly sweet. I would come back here for the bubble tea but not the food. read more

I'd say the food isn't the most authentic but their Bun Bo Hue is one of the more flavorful in the area. I really like that they use a good amount of lemongrass and shrimp paste so it makes for a very pungent soup. The noodles are cooked pretty well most of the time. I do enjoy their spring rolls but sometimes they are fried too hard. I do think the price is on the higher side but Vietnamese food takes a lot of labor so I don't mind it too much. read more

I grew up eating Vietnamese. Evening of 2/19, I entered Kung Fu Pho. Place is nice and open. Parking was not an issue so that is a plus. I was greeted right away and got a table. Service was good and quick. However, the food says otherwise. I ordered Summer Rolls with fish sauce, Spring Rolls, and a number 1 Pho combination plate with no tripe. Summer Rolls (1 out of 10) - it was overstuff with diced lettuce. It was also missing cucumbers and had very little rice noodles. Spring Roll (5 out of 10) - it was crispy and edible. Not sure what was missing, but something tasted off Pho (1 out of 10) - size of bowl was great. I always take a sip of the broth to taste and see what else is needed. Broth was very bland. I tasted a lot of grease at the first, so that was already a red flag. I drowned my pho in hoisen, and I still could not finish it. It had no type of flavor AT ALL. I left Kung Fu Pho feeling dissapointed. I was hoping for more because they were a lot pricier than the spot I usually go to. I originally wanted to order food to go, but given that the food told me otherwised - I left emptied handed. Hopefully the team will revisit the quality of the Pho. read more

Their food is delicious and fresh! The Pho is so rich and perfectly spicy. We love the Pho Bo Sate which is a spicy beef soup with beef broth. Because we favor it we haven't tried anything else. Our mom just arrived in NJ from Vietnam so we went here to have dinner. The restaurant is very nice with the Vietnamese Style Decoration with plenty of seats and larger round tables for large groups. The ambience was nice and cozy. Everything was very clean. The food was okay, but not really good, especially with the high price. As Vietnamese, we expected the food to be more authentic. We ordered Beef with Satay Sauce and Beef Noodle Soup with Satay Sauce. Both were okay but didn't have authentic taste to them. The meat is quite tender and juicy. We also ordered Cơm Tấm Sườn bì Chả. It ứa again okay. The staff was friendly, but it was weird that not one of them is Vietnamese. It was almost like the restaurant is ran by other than Vietnamese. The servers were cordial and offered there opnion about what's good. I had oxtail pho and braised salmon. It was fresh and delicious. I live in Los Angeles where pho restaurants are abundant. Taking over the old Abbondanza Trattoria location in Liberty Harbor North, Kung Fu Pho just opened this past week on Thursday. In a fortuitous coincidence, happened to walk by a couple of days right before the grand opening and snagged a menu. There are a lot of items on the menu here, will be able to satisfy all your pho, bun, rice, and spring roll cravings. Replacing New Thanh Hoai in downtown Jersey City is a tough task, but I think these guys are up for it. I am reserving a star because 1) It's just opening week and 2) I've only had a chance to just try out a couple of items on the menu. That being said, I think I'll be back here a lot. I wonder if I can claim a designated table... :) Anyway, today happens to be a hot 91 degree summer day and a steaming hot bowl of pho is a bit ambitious (not I, says the wife). I went with lighter fare, the Banh Cuon Cha Lua (item U11 if you're looking for a recommendation). This is a plate of fresh rice noodle wraps stuff with minced pork and wood-ear mushrooms. On the side are refreshing palate cleansers such as shaved lettuce, pickled carrots, fresh cucumber spears, and blanched bean sprouts. It comes with this nuoc mam dipping sauce (the same one you get with fried spring rolls) that adds some acid and sweetness to the dish. Highly recommended if you're looking for something light and refreshing. Wifey got #6, the combination pho with well done eye of round, brisket, tendon, and omosa. I'd tell you how it tasted but sadly she didn't offer me any. So... I guess it had to have been delicious! Looking forward to coming back again! I was very excited to have a walkable place for banh mi. But here I am out $12.95 for the worst banh mi I've ever had. I lived near Falls Church, VA for five years--the best place for a Vietnamese sandwich in the country. And compared to that, it's way off. The pork looked like lunch meat; very thin. Barely any Vietnamese mayo. Pate was lacking. Had a lot of cucumber for some reason. The bread had no crunch; just plain out of the bag. I was tempted to trash my sandwich but I ended up making my own Vietnamese mayo and made other modifications to get it right, which no one should have to do. Also, my partner wants to add info about his order from a few days below: - The summer rolls are 90% lettuce. - The Uber Eats prices are higher vs. in-store prices, so customers are having to eat the cost of doing business online. Decided to check this new spot out with some friends and was pleasantly surprised with the pho We started out with the frog's legs as an appetizer. It was a little too gamey for me and the butter was a bit heavier than I would've liked it, but I could see it being a great starter dish for some people For my main course, I got the 6, Chin Nam Gau Gan Sach pho. I thought the broth was great, I found it to be flavorful. The only part I didn't like was that there seemed to be cartilage or something like that in the broth from the meat. Apologies on not knowing exactly what it was, but I wound up picking it out of my pho. Portion size was perfect though. I was full, but not too full One of my friends got a banh mi and said it was amazing. The bread was crispy but not stale and the inside of the sandwich had a good amount of everything, including the meat. Definitely want to try one next time! I ordered through Uber Eats last night and got a vegetable banh mi. I was told there would be mixed vegetables, tofu, carrots, cucumbers, cilantro, ect. When my order arrived, it was just bread with sautéed onions, Mayo, and tofu. It was also very soggy and had way too much Mayo on it. I called the restaurant and informed them that my order is incorrect and they were apologetic and said the chef made a mistake. Since they don't deliver, they asked me if I can come pick up the order. It was already late and I contemplated if I wanted to drive out to pick up the new order. I told them I'll call back if I decided to place a new order. I thought I should try the sandwich to see if it actually tastes good before I place a new order, and I'm so glad I did! It was very salty and did not taste good because of that. So, I decided to not place a new order and got a refund through Uber. I'm not sure if I'd ever try this place again but I will say, the guy on the phone taking my order was very kind. read more

Came to Kung Fu Pho for a casual dinner and absolutely loved it! I have been loyal to Saigon (Newark Ave) for years, but wanted to try something new and glad I did. On a Tuesday night, the restaurant was rather empty, they were buzzing with takeout and delivery orders but we decided to eat in. The staff were great - service was quick and everyone was really friendly. Every table receives a pot of hot tea with the meal. The spring rolls were crispy and delicious. Not greasy at all. They were served with fresh lettuce and mint. The Pho Tai was so flavorful, again served with basil, lemon and bean sprouts. We also tried a shrimp dish (#67 on the menu) and it was great - fried in a light batter, sautéed with peppers and onions in a mild oyster sauce. Overall, great meal. The list of Pho options was extensive and I will definitely go back to try more. 10/10 recommend. read more

When I have a cold, Pho is a go to food for me. It's the blend of beef broth, thai basil, saracha, sweet hoisin, bean sprouts, and freshly squeezed citrus that feels like a comforting warm blanket on the inside. I've made pho and know the incredible amount of work just to make the broth alone. Couple that with the paper thin beef and you have an elaborate process. King Fu Pho deserves 5 stars for this, but I have to knock a star off because the broth was at some point so hot that a slit was made in the top of the to go container and the delivery person handed me a bag that left a beef broth trail all the way from the door to the kitchen. I lost about a quarter of the broth (2 cups) in the bag and on the floor. I didn't grab photos because it was a massive mess of disintegrated chop stick paper in the brothy-bag. The iced Vietnamese coffee however, was packaged and delivered without losing a drop. I understand that the broth needs to be hot enough to cook the beef and I appreciated it being hot. I'd recommend that the restaurant works on the delivery materials so that this doesn't happen to others because cleaning a house when your sick sucks. read more

Love love love this place! This is my go to for pho around Jersey City. Only second to Saigon Cafe Millburn, but that place is 40min drive away. This is pretty good. My go to dish is pig feet rice noodles. If you love rice noodle (not pho; pho is like white thin linguine, while rice noodle is like rich thick spaghetti), and spicy food, you are gonna fall in love with this. I always put lemon squeezes on top. Spicy sour? Who would resist that? Would die for it during a snowy winter day! Their spring roll is also very decent. Service is very fast. If I order online and opt for picking up, it's usually ready within 15 min. I also dined in door. A good place to hang out with friends. Certainly a casual place. It is sad and disrespectful and for that price I should be getting the best pho of my life which this is far from. Also your Bo Luc Lac (beef cube in sauce over rice) is garbage. It tastes like a Chinese chef's interpretation of what the dish should be. The sauce is light and the flavor is wrong. Tasteless and bland. Ordered the dragon pho but was a little disappointed. Traditional pho broth is meaty, but this broth was made from veggie stock? It had cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots which I was confused about. The rice noodles is not your classic pho noodles. For the dragon pho I was expecting more. It came with one whole beef brisket, but without the sliced beef/beef balls. I was expecting more because the name of the pho is "dragon pho, expecting to have the sliced beef + beef balls." Environment: big and spacious! Great for families and friends. Service was quick, workers was pleasant and kind. Would come back here to maybe try the regular pho and not dragon pho. Wish they had the authentic pho noodles tough. Review based on several dine-ins and two take-outs. Unfortunately, this is not a good Vietnamese restaurant. The spicing, consistency, and taste is more Chinese than Vietnamese. I would consider this to be a deal breaker. The food is marginally better dine-in. The takeout food quality (through delivery services) wasn't good. This should not be a surprise. The pho is adequate, lacks the deep spice ingredients The service while friendly and quick, is generally uneven. My bill was incorrect at two different occasions: once I was overcharged for food that was not ordered, another time the price was higher than on the menu. In both cases it was around $15. Unfortunately, the quality has gone down since they opened. The pho was pretty good at first, but for the last few times we came, the broth seems to be made from beef powder? It has an artificial taste to it and leaves a weird aftertaste. They also changed the baguette to their banh mi, which is not as good anymore. read more
