The noodles had a good texture but weren't as firm and chewy as fresh ramen should be. The toppings--tender pork, green onions, and an egg--were satisfying. I wish the pork was as melt-in-your-mouth as proper chashu. It's a convenient option if you're already there, but for a truly rich tonkotsu experience, I'd go elsewhere. I finally visited Kung Fu Tea in Gainesville and I loved it! The menu was massive and they had a little bit of everything: milk tea, green tea, black tea, lattes, smoothies, slushes, and more. You can add boba or tapioca, jelly, pudding, popping boba, red beans and lots of other toppings to your drink too. They use lactose-free milk (Lactaid) in all of their milk tea drinks which I think is pretty cool. I ordered the Mango Green Tea w/Mango Jelly + Oreo Wow Milk Strike w/Boba. I know, I know. This was my first time at this location. This will be a short review, because I went to go pick up a drink for my sister-in-law (SIL). -The shop followed pandemic protocols which was good: mask, distancing stickers, no seating, had hand sanitizer available, etc. (Coming from a health care worker, the only thing I do recommend is a more fit and snug mask, b/c a lot of the times their masks were drooping and they kept fixing it. This way it is safer for the customer and staff, helps prevent the spread of germs). -The staff were nice and friendly. -The prices were reasonable! -MY SIL enjoyed her drink when we brought it to her!!! Gainesville was yet another example of this, similar to my experiences in Tampa and other FL spots. This one is quiet and peaceful and kind of in the middle of nowhere in terms of Gainesville, as it's not really on the main strip or close to it, but it's the same story for several other Boba and Asian dessert spots too. And they have really really nice decor, as do most Florida KFT locations. When it gets busy in here it's hard to breathe. Need an extra Lung Fu Tea. Service was okay but the drink itself was one of those typical Florida Kung Fu Teas which is just a little off. And partly the reason may be that they all have the same owner so they're all using the same recipe or formula or lemon puree, something to that effect, which kind of is a little sour and dominates the drink. They're not bad though and I was at least glad that it was here. All 4 dishes took around 20 minutes to come out. Ramen- The broth of the ramen was not hot, it was lukewarm at best and didn't contain that much flavor. The pork was shredded(?) and was cold. The noodles weren't cooked right and were soggy. They also forgot to include an egg in my ramen when it's clearly in the photo. Grilled Combos- Slightly better than the ramen. Rice was a little hard but the meat was decent. They forgot to bring out the sides of miso soup so when we asked them they gave it to us to go. Overall, the food in this place isn't the best and we definitely wouldn't come back for the food. We also had a chance to taste their appetizers like the fried calamari and shrimp[soo crispy and fresh]. However, recently I ordered Samurai Crispy chicken and it was a bit soggy. There are a bunch of boba tea shops in Gainesville now, but KFT is special because it feels the most authentic. The teas aren't overly sweet or artificial. My favorites are the oolong milk tea or the winter melon milk tea. I love how they have winter melon tea as other shops don't have this tea often. They also have surprisingly good food! Last time I came, I had the tonkatsu ramen. In my opinion, it was slightly better than the ramen at Crane Ramen. At $10.99 for a bowl of tonkatsu, it was also cheaper than Crane Ramen. I loved the broth and all the included add ons. This might be the best bowl of ramen I've had in Gainesville to date. I'll definitely be back for more ramen in the future! They also have other food options I haven't tried yet, but I look forward to trying them soon. Pro tip: be sure to check in on yelp for a free add on to your tea.
