I wish I could give them more stars. Everything was OK. We got three drinks: 1. Mango slushy with mango popping bubbles 2. Kungfu Honey tea with aloe jelly 3. Strawberry lemonade with mango jelly The drinks were fine - thank goodness they give you the option for level of sweetness. How can anybody go with 100%??? We all got 50% and the slushy and lemonade were sweeter than we cared for. The most unfortunate part was giving my order to somebody that apparently hates their job and didn't know anything about their drinks. I asked about the Kung fu Honey tea and the Winter Melon tea - they just shook their head and said they've never tried them. And, somehow, their energy made ME feel stupid for asking! I always hear people running their mouth about Kung Fu Tea and then I'll catch them at KFT getting a drink anyway. Oh wait that's also me. As a former employee (at a different location), I usually have fairly high expectations since I remember giving everything my best effort to serve the community of Charlottesville with some awesome boba. The one on State street in Madison is not bad. I've been to this KFT a number of times on different occasions and it is usually not too long of a wait. That being said, employee turnover seems to be fairly high, which makes sense for a college town, so the quality is not always consistent. The building it's in is fairly old and I can tell from the OG KFT signs that are still up in the establishment, but nothing wrong with a little nostalgia. The last time I stopped by, my girlfriend and I got a Kirby drink to share, and it was actually very good. Hopefully they keep it on the menu for good, but it sounds like it is a limited edition item. While there is certainly better boba I've had in the past in other places, but for Madison, Wisconsin, it's a nice, convenient spot for decent boba when you get the craving. read more

The Kung Fu Fighters are one of my favourite bands. Their biggest hit was "Learn To Fu" but I also really love "Ever-oolong." What to get: Lemon Black Tea With Tapioca! Or in winter: Any of the hot milk teas! Which milk teas are best: Honey Oolong! Oolong! Maybe Taro or Almond! Generally speaking, Kung Fu Tea scores 5, but it's usually a low 5, considering that it's a massive international corporate chain, whose milk teas don't match up to the best chains: Sharetea, Gong Cha and Coco. However, they're still really good, and the fruit teas here are among the best. Especially the lemon black tea which absolutely rocks my world. If it's not on the menu, demand it! Other fruit teas (Berry, Orange, Grapefruit) must also be ordered off-menu as Black Tea instead of the meh Green. Also the Lemon Black tastes good as a Lemon Oolong, but everyone else hates it because they have bad taste. This KFT is located right in the heart of everything, and this is the perfect location for a college town Kung Fu Tea. It's on State Street alongside all of the mostly pedestrian-only thoroughfares which the college kids wander and walk and look for eats & drinks that will excite them. And nothing in town is more exciting than the delicious lemon black tea and the other amazing concoctions from this great location of KFT. Much tastier than most of the locations in Chicago and it is the best boba in the Madison area by a mile, tied with Jade Mountain, which is very different, much more local, and much more adorable. But it doesn't have anything quite as amazing as the Lemon Black Tea here. It's also better than any of the ones I tried in Milwaukee so I would regrettably say that this is the best boba in Wisconsin. The reason it is regretful is because it's a major chain - but when it's this good and everything else doesn't live up to the standards, you have to be honest. The boba drinks here has been the best I've found in Madison so far. The boba itself is a hit or miss sometimes. This time I ordered a Thai Tea and it tasted more of milk than tea than it usually does. My boyfriend got the passionfruit slushy, which is his favorite and it never goes wrong. Even my Thai tea drink wasn't cold enough to cool me off in this crazy heat. I should've gone for the slushy! I do like that they offer games here to keep us customers entertained, though finding a seat is hard to come by due to the very few tables that they have. read more

Took us about 15 minutes to order. Boba is tasty. Would recommend getting a size up as the base size is a little small. Drinks also tend to be quite sweet so scale down. I have coming to this location Kung Fu Tea (KFT) every time I come to Madison. I have been to KFT in Vegas and back home in LA and I feel like every location is about the same. With not very many options here, KFT is probably the best bet in Madison. I have tried their Grapefruit Green Tea, KF Milk Tea and they all were just OK. Its cheap and does the job I assume. Its located near UW Campus and youll spot a lot of students herr throughout the day. Some students like to stay here with their laptops to study. I find it hard since they do play loud music here but whatever floats your boat right? The guys behind the bar are attentive and pretty fast. Customers keep coming in at this location so it can definitely get busy. Theres about 4 booths and 4 two seater tables available. Many boardgames are located in the backshelf as well. Restroom also available. No private lot parking available. Paid street parking only! read more

It's Kung Fu tea. With Lychee popping boba... what more do you want? We stopped by here after finding out that Madison, WI had one in the first place. That was the absolutely most unexpected thing that happened when we came here. We noticed that the amount of Asian people seemed more than when we were in TN, so I wondered why. Then I looked around to see if they really had bubble tea, and Kung Fu popped up! This KFT didn't have food, but that was okay because I was all about the bubble tea. When we got here they had different flavors than what I was used to, they had all the normal ones, but the extra ones? Lychee popping boba?!? What?! I definitely jumped at the chance of getting that with my Oolong milk tea and was definitely satisfied at what I got. This place also has board games, compared to other stores, they didn't offer boardgames but I believe some people bring in their own games to play at the store. I thought it was nice that the store offered this as well and as long as you kept your place clean after you left it, it was a nice touch. It reminded me of those free small libraries, based on the honor code, to trust the good of people. Anyways, be lucky that you have KFT, there's some people (like us) who would love to have it, but have to drive 3-4 hours to get some. read more

Amazing bubble tea!! I actually didn't order a bubble tea but I tried my friend's milk tea and it was awesome! Not too sweet and the boba were soft yet chewy. I got the KF honey tea which can be ordered cold without boba. I think I'll have strong urges to have this drink again! Too bad I was just visiting Madison! KFT is still a decent place to go if you are craving your bubble tea fix (you can't go wrong with any drink, maybe besides the rosehip tea which I found that I really did not like due to the sour taste). It has just opened back up in the past week in this location. The app itself doesn't work too well (promotions are tough to handle and don't always go through). I would avoid peak times here during these times though due to wait times. We placed an order at 6:45 PM yesterday and received it at 7:35 PM yesterday. In addition, the orders were made at separate times, so a few of the slushes were completely melted by that point already. There were crowds of people waiting outside due to how behind they were. My life in Madison would not be the same without Kung Fu Tea. Since moving here about 6 months ago, I've come here about once a week. I've had almost everything on the "classic", "punch", and "milk tea" sections of the menu, and my favorites are oolong milk tea, winter melon green milk tea, and passion fruit green tea. The boba itself is always at a good chewiness and sweetness level. I also really like their grass jelly, which I order when I feel like having something lighter than boba. I'm taking off a star because compared to other Kung Fu Teas, this place is just okay. Their tea caps are weirdly clumpy and the layer of cream is very thin. They don't serve any savory snacks like Taiwanese chicken nuggets (thinking of the one in my hometown by Atlanta), and the decor is very plain and nothing special compared to other coffee/tea shops. However, it is the best boba in Madison so I'll take what I can get. read more

Coconut Milk Tea is where it's at. I was skeptical and negative nelly in my view of KungFu when I saw that it was opening just down the street from the beloved Steepery Tea Bar. The competition scared me, but oh how the tables have turned. Prior to their recent opening in Madison, I had tried the KungFu location back in Evanston and was not overly impressed. However, since it's arrival to State Street, I'm thoroughly enjoying the shop. What's best about KungFu and what sets it apart from Steepery is that their menu gives you the option to customize the sweetness of your drink, as well as the amount of ice. My complaint with bubble tea is the mystery behind the drink's sugar content, and KungFu eradicates this fear by allowing you to opt for little sugar, less sugar, half sugar, lite sugar, etc. I can't get enough of all things coconut these days, so I've ordered the coconut milk tea with little sugar and less ice a few times and that is my drink. Watch out wallet because KungFu tea is becoming a new bestie. read more

If you've been to boba places in Houston or the Bay Area, Kung Fu doesn't have quite the same variety of flavors - but those places have SO many flavors it can be hard to choose. If you're in the mood for matcha, as I was this day, they only have it in what I think they call a "strike" version (lactose-free). I don't drink straight milk ever so I don't know if lactose-free milk tastes any different than regular milk, but in any case the matcha strike tasted just fine. It's less sweet than other matcha milk teas I've had (like at Sencha aka Steepery at the time), which can be kind of nice and certainly is closer to the taste of actual matcha. All in all, it's a solid boba option. Haven't been to Sencha in a long time so I can't compare right now. And pretty much everyone here at Kung Fu (employees, customers) is Asian so it's gotta be legit, right? read more

Woot, Woot another milk tea place in town. Kungfu Tea, the name alone reminds me of some Chinese movies that I often watched when I was a kid. Passing by this place several times, I was unsure if I wanted to try it right away. In my dumbest guess and being very ignorant, I thought the old sub house was also selling some teas. Silly me. But today, on one of the warm and sunny days in Madison, I was thinking of having some bubble tea and Kungfu tea came to my mind. I yelped it out and read some reviews of other yelpers. From their reviews, I learned that this place is quite legit so I gave it a try. I bought a red bean tea (literally with some red beans in it and bubbles, you can actually choose whether you have to have it with tapioca or bubbles, red bean and others), an oreo milk and a taro one. I loved the read bean tea---- love the taste and love the red beans as well. What a brilliant idea! Thank you! but the oreo milk tea is just okay. The taro milk tea is another goodie. This was probably one of my worst experiences with a boba shop. I was looking forward to the KungFu Tea here because there's one back home in California. I ordered the green tea milk with aloe; I even tipped them $5. The drink was so disgusting. It was way too powdery. It tasted like milk and flour instead of milk and green tea. I asked them if they could remake the drink, the refused. I asked if I could get a different drink, they wanted me to make ANOTHER purchase to get a new drink, even though I tipped them nicely. Yayy it makes me so happy to be able to customize the sugar level in my drink! Wish it was possible to do that with everything on their menu (the Wow milks can't be adjusted), but there are enough great options with that available. You can also ask for little or no ice, and their toppings are pretty cool. So far, I've tried the matcha red bean shake (awesome), matcha shake without red beans (not on the menu but they'll do it for you), taro green milk tea, and taro milk tea. All of them have been tasty! I usually get a double order of bubbles because I can't get enough of them. And yes, those are soaked in a syrup, so they have some sugar. I wouldn't recommend getting bubbles with the red bean drinks, because their textures contrast in a weird way. But do as you please! Solid boba tea place. While a few other boba place's I've been to lately have had old or too squishy bubbles, Kung Fu tea has been consistently good. I love the taro milk tea boba with the black pearls. My wife is more partial to their mango smoothie thing. I've never had anything bad here. The shop is also loaded with board games for patrons to play. This is less a study spot and more of an after-class hangout place. Stopped through Madison on my way from Minneapolis to Chicago and was in desperate need of a pick-me-up! I found free 2 hr street parking just a few blocks away and easily found Kung Fu Tea's corner location. The interior is okay, but it's in a great location to walk around with your tea! I cannot explain it but I really like boba tea! I have lived in a few cities and have found many to be hit or miss in consistency. This is great boba tea and moreover reasonably consistently so. Tea quality 5/5. The service here is less than to be desired - ie I have come several times and they are out of boba even when confirming my phone before I go and they unfortunately do not take phone orders. Also, I have unfortunately experienced their closing 10+ minutes earlier than their advertised times. I would never expect a restaurant to serve a sit down customer in their last 10 minutes of being open but I think a tea place near a college campus with primarily "to go" orders should be able to serve during their stated hours or simply change them! I have not personally had this happen but when a drink comes out different than expected, I have seen them argue with the customers on several occasions rather than try to make it right. I have never stayed to hang out there but it seems a bunch of students hang out and play games there which seems cool. If all you care about is the tea, I'd rate this 4.5/5. If you care about service, 3/5 as outlined above. I would still wholeheartedly recommend the tea - I just hope they can improve their service. read more

I actually really like Kung Fu Tea. I tried it a couple years ago when they first opened and I didn't like them much. The just yesterday, I wanted to go walk on State Street and my boyfriend kept telling me we should go try their milk tea because he knows I love the milk tea from Sencha. Classic milk tea with bubbles is milky, slightly sweetened, and fun to drink with the tapioca pearls. I've loved Sencha before they were Sencha and I might be swinging towards Kung Fu Tea now. I love coming to Kung fu tea, whether it's just to stop and get a drink, or sit and hang out with a friend. They have games (cards, board games, jenga, etc) so you're never bored/board (haha puns). Anyways, I really like their drinks. They're different, creative, and aren't just watered down tea. The best part is that their bubbles actually have flavor. I don't usually get bubbles because they end up being lame and boring chewy balls of dough but Kung fu tea knows how to make them! I wish they had a rewards program, but that's no deal breaker, seeing as I keep going back haha. Oh their macarons are also pretty good! Nice, soft, and chewy all for a reasonable $1. read more
