Taiwan Little Eats never misses! One of my all-time favorite restaurants in Madison. Their bubble teas are aromatic, the food is flavorful, and the restaurant itself is clean, has cute decor, and a homey vibe. The staff are also friendly! I have never been to Taiwan so personally I don't know how it feels, but when I eat at TLE, I feel as though I am eating in Taiwan, haha. Will continue coming here, whether it be for a quick bubble tea or a good meal. (:
I took out lunch from here on a week day. Lunch was ready in 10 minutes. Fried chicken cutlet with oil noodle with curry sauce was my item. I ordered it spicy. I would say spicy was mild for me. Chcicken cutlet was fried nice and crisp. I think rice would have been better than oil noodle, especially when taking curry sauce. Curry sauce with oil noodle gets a bit wierd.
Authentic-ish, but good! Right on the State Street drag with all the ethnic restaurants, this feels more like a artsy coffee house than a small plates joint. From the eclectic art and furniture, to the compostable bamboo boba straws, it didn't look like traditional Taiwanese restaurant. But the food was good and the service was friendly. // Danzai Noodles A nice soup noodle dish with meat, shrimp, and veggies. The egg noodles were nice and chewy, the meat juicy, and the soup satisfying. There was a tea egg on there too. // Pork Belly on Rice Another traditional dish, with fatty meat on rice. They had some simple veggies, broccoli and carrots(?), but whatever. The meat was good. And hey, there was a tea egg! // Ginger Onion Chicken over Rice TBH, it *was* ginger, green onions, and chicken over rice. But we also know this dish as Hainan chicken. It was good, with the scallions sauteed in seasame oil. Winner! // Tea Eggs They have a big pot next to the register. Some of the dishes have tea eggs already, but you can never have too much tea egg. At $1.50 each, lets hope inflation doesn't push it up much more. The boba shop items were just okay. We did love the choice of boba straws. They had the traditional gyre bound plastic straws, but they also had bamboo straws. They still crack if you're not careful, but they're way better for the environment. -- Brown sugar milk tea, okay. The boba was chewy, but not as sweet as it should have been. -- Pouchong milk tea, which is a specialty mountain tea roasted just right. Flavor was good. -- Taiwanese style milk tea pretty standard. I dunno, if I wasn't eating, I probably wouldn't come here just for the tea.
Tiny hole in the wall. And it survived the pandemic. I love supporting small, family owned restaurants like this. And, I love eating here: no reservations, no fancy menus, no pretensions. As a native Taiwanese, I found the flavors authentic and delicious. Bring some friends or eat alone. Order a selection of small dishes and sample them all. Some of my faves? Tea-egg, minced pork over rice, boba tea. But really you won't go wrong with any of it.
One of my State Street favorites and my go-to-spot for bubble tea! There's no shortage of spots for bubble tea and snacks in this area, but this one tops my list. The boba is always very fresh and never tastes too tough or chewy. Furthermore, the seating and ambiance is really really cute! The bright blue walls are filled with decor, local art, and curiosities. I've had the popcorn chicken here, which was tasty but the real reason I come here is the bubble tea. The WiFi is reliable and this makes a decent study spot, although the music is a bit loud, so find a spot away from the speakers!
TLE is a cute tiny place hidden off of state street. There's only street parking so you'll have to walk to get there. Not being from Madison, my husband and I did get lost walking from where we parked to find TLE. TLE is a cute little Cafe which has a drink menu and food menu. All the good sounded so good and after reviewing many other reviews, I also got a fruit smoothie. My husband ordered the Curry chicken cutlet rice bowl. I ordered the Pork belly rice bowl, pork taco bao and a the passion fruit smoothie. Everything was delicious! I could not stop drinking my smoothie. Best I've had - hands down. The tapioca pearls were still warm and this is definitely how a fruit smoothie/Bubba tea should taste like! Sad I didn't think to order one more to go. Or dishes were phenomenal. The cherry chicken was well balanced and not too over powering. The pork belly rice bowl was also well balanced. I'm not a big Bamboo person but the carrots, broccoli and sauce really balanced with the bamboo. The pork belly is a must! Seasoned well, not too salty sweet, and the fat just melts in your mouth! Cooked to perfection! Will definitely be visiting again whenever we are in town!
If you like fried chicken, you have to try the Giant Fried Chicken Cutlet here. Fresh and very hot out of kitchen, the chicken cutlet is perfectly seasoned w salt and a bit five spices and fried to be very crispy. I like it's thin and large so every bite is delightful and you can enjoy it for a while haha. The restaurant itself is very cute and the servers are all very friendly. Next time when I go to Madison I will try other things on their menu which looks pretty diversified and authentic.
Got takeout. Danzai noodles and pork belly over rice. It was pretty good, the meat was fairly tasty and the noodles were good quality etc. Pork belly was a lil fatty, but to be expected. However, there was very little flavor, especially with the pork belly. Like the meat itself had seasoning but nothing else did. Maybe they forgot the sauce? I would go again but order different things, prob the bubble tea.
I was visiting Madison on a business trip and came across this quaint, little Taiwanese eatery. Authentic Taiwanese food is hard to find in most cities. So I was eager to check this place out. I ordered a Chiayi chicken rice bowl, fried squid balls, and a bubble tea. I'm happy to report that everything was delicious. My only regret is that they didn't have the Teppan steak over noodles for lunch and that was the one thing I really wanted to get. Oh well, I'll have to come back for dinner next time.
Atmosphere (5/5): The atmosphere was satisfactory. There were props reminiscent of Taiwan, the interior of the store was clean, and the sound of music in the store was not loud enough to interfere with conversation. Service (4/5): You can order through the staff or through the kiosk, so you won't have to wait long to order your food. The staff taking orders are friendly. However, after eating, each person need to put their plates and trays away in a designated area, just like at a fast food restaurant. Food(5/5): The food is very nice for the price. In the case of bento, the rice is not seasoned, so it feels a bit bland, but the danzai noodle menu and the meat (proteins) included in the bento were really tasty. I also recommend milk tea for dessert. Price: $20 per person (including tips)
Order: Lychee smoothie My go to smoothie place in Madison! This place is absolutely incredible - HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Both the lychee and mango smoothies are excellent - sweet, fresh, crisp and delicious. Service is always friendly and quick and the inside is very comfortable and homey.
TLE is such a cute spot on state! Good drinks, tasty food, and fun vibes. I got the popcorn chicken meal with a side of veggies. The chicken was crispy and flavorful. The only critique I have is that the portions of the protein are on the smaller side compared to the amount of rice. I was satisfied with my meal but can definitely see it not being enough for others. Otherwise, it's a great spot and I love stopping by when I'm in Madison!
Came here after a college tour of uw-Madison. You can't drive down state but there is plenty of street parking nearby. The place is cute and we took our food to go. Service was good and food only took about 10 minutes. Taiwanese milk tea - pretty standard, liked that it wasn't very sweet Lovebirds milk tea - also not very sweet and coffee tasted a bit watery. Was yearning for more milkyness.pudding is also not very creamy. Golden pomelo jasmine - nice sweetness and strong tea and fruit flavor. Recommend going with the regular sweetness level here. BBQ Pork Sausages - nice and sweet. You get two to an order Braised Pork Over Rice - this was the favorite bc of the juiciness of the meat Crispy and Salty Popcorn Chicken - crispy and salty. Pieces were bigger than expected Fried Fish Cake - not super crispy, but the flavor was nice Ginger onion chicken over rice - chicken is tender, but overall a pretty basic dish Danzai noodles - less flavorful than the rice Fried blood cakes - musky, crispy, and chewy. Delicious Taiwanese popcorn chicken here! Definitely a place for Taiwanese Street Food. I ordered the "CURRY Popcorn Chicken Rice Bowl咖哩鹹酥雞飯" since I was craving some curry on top of my popcorn chicken and it was pretty good. However, it felt like the curry was overly watered down, and I wish it had more thickness to it so you can taste more of the curry roux instead of straight up chili spice Service was nice. Food came out at a reasonable time. You order at a Kiosk or window, and pick it up once your name is called. It is a clean-up-after-yourself spot, so dishes must be placed in the designated area. They were very responsive when I asked if they could refill the communal water dispenser! I enjoyed this place a lot, and the price for the plate was extremely reasonable ($13.50 w/o tax for my bowl) for a very filling meal. I rated it 4 Stars since I wish the curry had more thickness to it and more broccoli (only got 2 broccolis). read more
I was surprised to find this location so close by where I was staying. The street can feel a little sketchy depending on the time of day, and it's also pretty diverse, which gives it a unique vibe. The menu has a variety of milk teas, plates, and little snacks. I had the Salt & Crispy Popcorn Chicken, and it was good. I also tried their Iced Taiwanese Milk Tea, but unfortunately, it was way too milky for my taste. I prefer the darker, richer, and more bitter style of Taiwanese milk tea, so this one didn't hit the mark for me. Ended up tossing a good portion of it, which was disappointing. The tech ordering screen was super convenient and made the process smooth. Plenty of seating inside, but it was a bit humid, which wasn't the most comfortable. Overall Service: There wasn't much direct interaction since everything was done through the tech screen, but the staff did call out my number and it was a pleasant interaction. Such a cute restaurant on State street! Nice place to hang out and get a quick meal with friends. We got the tainan braised pork over rice, the fried chicken cutlet curry combo, crispy salty popcorn chicken, and deep fried tofu braised pork. All were very good, but I liked the braised pork the best! It was so flavorful and delicious, I only wish the ratio of pork to rice was more balanced. Both of our bowls were left with a lot of rice when we were done eating, which I hate to have go to waste. The two sides were really good, I always like taiwanese popcorn chicken and this was excellent! I didn't know what to expect from the tofu, but it really was a crispy block of fried tofu with a scoop of the braised pork on top, delicious! Service is fast, you can order at the kiosk or at the window. Utensils / napkins / water are self serve and you bus the dishes in that same area. Looking for Taiwanese food in Madison WI? Well, here it is! Taiwan Little Eats offers great varieties delicious traditional Taiwanese snack food and refreshing boba tea to pair with. This place also has a fantastic relaxing vibe, friendly staffs and cozy interior style. What I ordered: Fried Pork Rib On Rice - The pork was perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. This dish was also paired with sweet baby corn, steam broccoli with creamy sauce, potato, tea egg, pickled vegetables and steam white rice. Tea Egg - The fried pork rib on rice I ordered came with half of the tea egg. It was so good that I had to order another one separately. Great addition to your meal or enjoy it just alone as a snack! You really can't go wrong. Jasmine Green Milk Tea - Simply refreshing! I had the tea without boba, 25% sugar (if you don't want the tea too sweat) also less ice. Everyone knows that boba tea not only it will make your meals better but also your days as well! I can't wait for the next time to visit this amazing little spot again! The Braised pork over rice was so good. The egg was super good too, very very delicious. The pineapple balls were okay .. definitely not ball shaped , but shrimp covered in sauce and pineapples diced up, messy presentation too. read more

This was my second time in Madison, Wisconsin and this was my second time coming to Taiwan Little Eats. At my first time here, I ordered the Chicken Katsu and it was so good that I had to get it again during my second time here. My first time last year, I got the fried chicken thigh and a boba tea, which were very good. This time, I got the Katsu with rice and my brother got the Katsu with noodles. The sauce that the Katsu was coated in was sweet and savory. The meal was cooked perfectly and it was ready in a few minutes. When I come back to Madison to visit my brother, I will definitely come back to this delicious restaurant. I will try something different next time, but whatever it is, I know it will be yummy. read more

I absolutely love Taiwan Little Eats. Nestled perfectly into the busyness of State Street, it's the perfect place to bring a loved one for a warm bowl of food and a conversation. I normally get the Braised Pork over Rice Noodles and some sort of milk tea with tapioca pearls. It's always so divine. In addition, the people who work there are so warm and kind. I would definitely recommend stopping here for lunch or dinner if you find yourself on State Street. read more
I was craving braised pork over rice, and this place really hit the spot! The meat was so flavorful and there was the perfect amount of rice included. I wish the veggies were seasoned, but the meat was so tasty that I didn't mind it too much! I'm a sucker for baby corn, so I was pleasantly surprised to find it in the dish! I also ordered the spicy fried chicken thigh over rice. The spice was mostly coming from the red powder that was dusted over the top, and I honestly think sriracha is spicier than that powder. The flavor was good though, if a bit bland when eaten with the plain white rice. There seemed to be too much rice in proportion to the amount of other food/flavors in the box. Unfortunately, the chicken wasn't crispy anymore, but I didn't have the highest expectations since we ordered takeout and had a 15 min drive home before getting to dig in. I was very impressed with portion sizes though! We ordered for two and there were plenty of leftovers for another meal. Would definitely come back again! read more

YUMMM! I walked by this restaurant several times intending to try the food, but it was always packed with people. I tried going again and there were tables open finally. My friend and I went in and looked at the menu. Everything looked delicious/ sounded delicious. The Eats: I decided on the pineapple shrimp balls, sweet taro rolls and my friend got and let me try the pork belly taco bao. The shrimp and pineapple balls were so delicious and flavorful, there was a sauce on them which gave the dish a bit a creaminess added in with the sweetness from the pineapple and shrimp. It was served over a bed of lettuce which added an nice crunch texture to the dish. It was so delightful. The Sweet Taro rolls were amazing! They weren't too sweet or overly cooked at all, it made a perfect crunch noise when I bit into it--from the tempura coating. They were nice and soft on the inside with just a hint of sweetness--not overpowering in the slightest. The purple of the taro was so vibrant when opened up, a beautiful and tasty treat. The pork belly taco bao was soft and chewy, the perfect texture. The pork belly was melt in your mouth delicious. The sauce that was inside matched well with the pork belly giving it a hint of sweet and spiciness. The combination of the pork belly, the boa, and the pickled radish and veggies and the sauce were a match made in heaven. The Interior: From the outside looking in, you see various tables and chairs set up around the restaurant with beautiful table to core pieces and wall art. When you walk in, you get a cozy and warm vibe. It's a perfect place to meet up for light bites and a catch up with coworkers, friends or even a date. It would also make the perfect study area, with the small eats and comfy seating areas, you could take a laptop and books to study and not feel out of place. Overall a wonderful aesthetic and vibe, worth checking out if you haven't yet. Overall: So much yum! I Cannot wait to go back and try other things on the menu! Excellent food and quick service. What a cute little place to grab food! I was in Madison visiting a friend and she recommended we come eat here for some Asian food and boba of course. The restaurant is so cute, decorated with postcards and very remnant of Taiwan! We ordered our food and drinks and were served very promptly. Food was good -- nothing out of the ordinary, but a solid meal and taste. The bubble tea drinks were great as well! Would recommend to anyone that needs a quick little fix on boba and Tawainese food! read more
After a friend got the "Taiwanese style milk tea" from the kiosk outside the international festival 2020, she was disappointed because it was just a hot tea, and not the normal iced tea with boba pearls. I was thankful had held off on ordering. We had some time to kill so walked over to the actual location to try the real deal. At their actual location, we learned that the kiosk didn't offer the cold version or the bobas since it's not equipped. It's too bad they didn't let us know and just gave us the hot tea. I mean, I can't imagine we were the only ones who think of iced tea with bubbles when we hear Taiwanese milk tea. Even if the weather outside is 28 degrees. In any case, the restaurant offered to make us the legit version and I ordered mine as well. I had the Taro milk tea, and my friend had the regular milk tea. Both were right on the money. Reminiscing about our trip to Taiwan, hubby and I had to try the giant chicken cutlet ($8). This was quite delicious, though more curry flavor than what I remember from the streets of Taiwan. The inside of the cafe/restaurant is cute. it really is like a cross between a little restaurant and a cafe. The receptionist (or server? It's a self service place - order up front, pick up your food at the counter) was super friendly and absolutely lovely. Everything you would expect from a 5-star service. Great job! read more
Taiwan Little Eats has been my go-to for lunch as of recent. Their salt and pepper chicken bites are so crunchy and very flavorful. Their chicken thigh with rice and veggies is very filling. Their boba is mid, but you probably won't be going there just for boba. Overall, have had a very good experience eating consistently good food here. read more
I thought I had posted my review. I've been back to LTE 2 times already. I really liked their food and their dishes are priced be reasonably. Best part for me is eating outdoors. Highly recommend LTE of you be are very on state street and looking for something to eat. read more

The vibe - cute. The food - scrummy. The wait - not scrummy or cute. We ordered our food on Sunday at 12:30pm. Hot diggity damn, we chose a poor time because it took us an hour to receive our food. This place is popping always cuz it's good, but that means y'all should definitely come at a more off time otherwise you'll be ravenous beyond belief. My aunt and cousin were visiting Madison, and we tried a lot of iconic places over the weekend and they said this was by far their favorite meal if that's saying something... Fried chicken cutlet rice bowl - pretty good, the chicken isn't quite as good as the pork rice bowl Original calamari - the crunch on the outside wasn't the bestest. Good calamari but it's when you get fried calamari you want the crunch on the outside to complement the chewiness of the inside Tainan braised pork over rice noodles - I expected this over rice but they gave me rice noodles and I'm very happy they did. The garlicky oily juices really marinated the noodles well and the fresh carrots and bean sprouts really balanced it well Taiwanese style milk tea w boba - classic Caramel milk tea w boba - yummy, maybe down the sugar level cuz of the added caramel Strawberry pouchang tea with jellies - yummy!! This one was quite refreshing. Definitely a pick for a hot day. All of the food wasn't the warmest by the time that it got to us but alas tis the tragedy of the lunch rush. TLDR: yummy and cute! I've been here three times whenever I am in Madison and have enjoyed every visit thus far. All of the food reminds me of the street food that you would find in Taiwan. Good portion sizes and very flavorful. Great place and highly recommended! read more

Very cute interior and overall atmosphere. Braised beef over rice noodles was sweet and savory. The teppan steak took a little while to cook though so be prepared to wait an extra 10 minutes if you order this dish. Overall, food was served very warm which I enjoyed. A small but cozy and cute place for all your favorite Taiwanese snacks and drinks. I am not Taiwanese but I have always been a fan of Taiwanese snacks and drinks, especially milk tea. I recently travelled to Taiwan, not even a month ago and I absolutely loved and enjoyed every little thing in Taiwan. Last time I was in Madison, I wanted to come here so I bookmarked it but totally forgot. My boyfriend remembered and we decided to come and find out. I really admired their cute little interior accents here and there. Staff was friendly and most of all, it was warm and cozy inside! We got ourselves a lot of food. We started with a Brick Toast and 2 drinks; I got my Grapefruit Jasmine Tea and boyfriend got Taiwanese Style Milk Tea with Bubbles. Brick toast was what you are thinking of. Tastes the same and small. It was only $3 anyway. It had sprinkles on top to make it look less boring I suppose which I wasnt too fond of. Should have just put like whip cream or something on the side. My drink was decent. It tasted a lot like one of my favorites back home, Tenju's Grapefruit Green Tea. Boyfriend's Taiwanese Style Milk Tea was good but I had the real deal in Taiwan and it wasnt Taiwanese style at all for me. That's just my personal opinion. Later we ended up ordering more snacks like Popcorn Chicken and Fried Squid Balls. Popcorn Chicken was lacking something. Ive had a lot of popcorn chicken before and it was slightly different. I had the Hot Star Large Fried Chicken and it didnt taste like that either. Fried Squid Balls were chewy and yummy but a little too salty for me. But we both finished it. I am glad that Madison has this cute little place for people like me who always craves milk tea and popcorn chicken. If they can just look into the Popcorn Chicken Recipe a little more to make it more solid, I would love it even more. Menu has a lot of other drinks and rice dishes as well as Teppan Steak and Noodles. I have to come back to try this before I go back home to Los Angeles! Parking is street only and you have to pay.
